The crab Rangoon was so tough and chewy, I almost choked on it. Twice. It’s like shoe leather.I order two orders of pad thai at different spice levels. They both tasted exactly the same. I ordered take out and they put the take out in those square Chinese take out containers. I dumped my container out into a bowl and the whole thing stayed in the same shape as the container. It was a giant cube of 90% chewy noodles and 10% chicken.I can’t express how incredibly disappointed I am in this restaurant

Pad Thai was mushy and tasteless, had zero bean sprouts and for some reason had carrots and cilantro. Since it had no actual heat or flavor it just tasted like soapy cilantro. Also paid for extra protein and had maybe 3 small pieces of chicken. The worst Thai food I’ve ever had.

Two stars because this is the second time Ive ordered carry out on Uber Eats, they accept my order, and when I go pick it up they are closed. The app says my order is ready, Google and Uber Eats say this restaurant is open.Definitely not ordering carry out again. If youre not open Sunday after 8 update your sites!!

Im going out of my way to make this negative comment. Their pad Thai comes in those paper take out cube container, and its all soggy. It doesnt even taste like pad Thai.

Ordered online through doordash. No utensils, no napkins. Portion of Panang and rice are pretty small and rice is not cooked at all. However, panang curry tastes ok

Ive gone to Basil for years and have loved it every time. I even had my baby shower in the event space when the Short North location was open. I took my then boyfriend many years ago hoping he would love it too and he did! We now pick up food from Basil often.

The food here tastes bland. I have no other way to describe it. I’ve asked them to make it spicier but consistently it just doesn’t taste like much. Post pandemic this has turned into a ghost kitchen for Uber making pad Thai on repeat.

Disappointing food, via UberEats delivery. My pad kee mow was drenched in soy sauce. The chicken was dry. Her pad Thai was supposed to be chicken but was tofu, and was similarly soggy and tasteless. As an Asian American from the Bay Area who’s traveled twice to Thailand, this was pretty subpar. As more of us out-of-staters from the coasts, where excellent Asian food thrives, move to Columbus, the demand for good Thai food will only increase. I hope Basil Thai will improve their products so they can take advantage of more experienced, scrutinizing palates.

I used to eat at Thai Basil short North, both the one on High and the one on Essex.I guess Essex store closed so we ordered from The brewery district one.The portion sizes were very small. The cashew chicken was more like a soup, it was all sauce. The wontons are now different. Before Thai Basil was one of the few places I could get good wontons with the four corners.NOTHING was spicy despite ordering hot.I dont know whats going on with you guys but lowering your standards is not the way to go.Food was priced about two times what it should have been. Im not sure if Ive got it in me to try a second time or not maybe we just got a bad one but based on the other reviews here, maybe not.

Based on this order alone (deliverythis was disappointing Pad Thai. It was cold, a pile of mush with no flavor at all and definitely no spice (medium). Might try again but it would have to be drastically different to change my review.

This place serves really excellent Thai food. Probably my favorite Thai food downtown. I love the panang curry and the pad ka prow. Most recently I put in a lunch order for three people on a Monday around noon and they had it all ready in 25 minutes, fresh and delicious. It is a little hard to find, the entrance is kind of nestled within a brick office plaza. Expect to spend around $20/person. If you are ordering during peak hours (weekend eveningsit may be best to place your order via phone to get a time estimate from a real person instead of doordash’s algorithm.

Due to covid they are still takeout only, and I recommend coming in to order takeout in person. The delivery apps are unreliable and sometimes take so long to get orders, leaving your food to sit and get cold/soggy. Their Tom yum soup is delicious and their green curry is another one of my favorites!! Have only had good experiences from here.

Ordered and the order was not fulfilled. 2 orders of egg rolls, 1 received. Sauted bean sprouts, 2sides, not received. Vegan egg rolls received were very dry. Chicken fried rice had maybe 5 pieces of chicken, no veggies or egg like traditional fried rice. We will not order again.

Twice I have gotten delivery from here and twice, they have messed it up. The first time they forgot our rice for the curry and the second time, they didnt put the lid on the soup all the way and it spilled all over this nice door dashers car. They also forgot the sweet and sour sauce for the crab wontons that were cold! You would think with this place being a little more pricey, theyd make sure their customers had everything to complete their meal. But it just seems someone in that kitchen is either drunk or high all the time. Or they just dont give a flying f@$* about their customers or their business. We will not be ordering or dining there ever again and we will be letting people know to take their money elsewhere.

I ordered carry out, and it took me about 20 minutes to get it home. I usually wont rate a restaurant on carry out because it looses some of impact when you cant eat it as its served, but everything was incredible. My order of fried tofu, crispy rolls, and the red curry ( which Im not usually not a fan of ), was great. I really look forward to eating in the restaurant for my first time. I highly recommend Basils, especially if you have a gluten intolerance.

I am extremely frustrated! I ordered food via door dash. The order was confirmed on the restaurant’s side and I got a notification that the order was being prepared. 20 minutes later, I was notified that my order was canceled because the “restaurant was closed” on a Friday at 2:45pm, after the restaurant had already confirmed my order. After googling the restaurant, I saw they are not closed until 9pm. I called the restaurant to fix the situation and they did not answer.

My boyfriend and I get take out from here at least once a week. Honestly shocked there’s any negative reviews. Their sweet and sour chicken is the best I’ve ever had, also have ridiculously good curry. We love the fried rice (not the basil fried rice, a bit too much basil for usand the cashew chicken! We’re probably going to try everything on the menu at some point because everything we’ve tried so far has been amazing. Ordering from them again tonight! Highly recommend, it’s quickly become one of our favorite restaurants.UPDATE: The curry and pad thai are also fantastic!

Extremely slow service. The waitress said they had one cook...fairly sure the waitress WAS the cook. That said, she was very nice and clearly trying to provide quality service despite the circumstances. The food that came out was fine, not good or great. Utensils were all dirty with soap scum. One napkin had dried on rice from the last customer. 100% would not recommend.P.S. I went to the bathroom. That made this a 1-star review. Yikes.P.P.S. I’m NOT blaming the servers. There were THREE people working in the entire place on a Saturday night. They did what they could with what they had.

I normally dont leave negative reviews but this is the first time Ive received food from a restaurant that was basically inedible. I ordered via Uber Eats and the food I received was not good. The lad na was super bland to the point where I doused it in salt so that I could taste something but it didnt really improve the flavor and I ended up throwing most of it out. Also ordered eggrolls and those were super overcooked and dried out because of it. Would not recommend. Theres plenty of Thai places in the area that are much better.

Ordered take out, portions were small, and was incredibly expensive. The pineapple curry was disgusting and smelled like urine and tasted like that too. Also had some mystery long strips in it. Pad Thai was nothing special. I ordered “hot” and the spice was non existent. Parking is also a nightmare. I guess there’s a reason it has 3.8 star review and I should have taken that as a hint. Do not waste your time and energy going here!

Great place. It’s a bit dark inside but the pad Thai is really good. The food was hot, it was warm, and the wonton soup was fresh. The only thing I didn’t like was that the water was straight tap and it’s quite obvious. Also for a Thai restaurant, it has no show of it. No culture or anything. The only thing that’s quite apparent is that it’s in the brewery district.

Not terrible, but not great. I had an appetizer (okand ordered pad kee mao with broccoli and without onions. I was charged for the broccoli which wasnt explained early, and I also got a large dose of onions. I moved them to the side plate,to give my server a chance to recognize the error. She didnt. Food was OK, server was otherwise polite and professional. Bottom line, I probably wont go back.

Last night was my first time at this restaurant and I loved it! Excuse the picture of half eaten food, but it was so good I forgot to take a picture beforehand! They have gluten free options which is awesome. My only two complaints are that they don’t answer their phone when you call and the Apothic Red Blend wine tasted awful. I accidentally left my credit card at the restaurant and have been unable to reach them, so I had to cancel my card. I live outside of Columbus.I tried the red blend and I’m not sure if the bottle had been opened longer than four days, but it had a poor taste.Overall, I would absolutely recommend coming here. Just don’t forget your credit card 🙂

Great restaurant for Thai inspired food! This was our first visit to the restaurant and will definitely be making a return trip in the near future. The atmosphere was wonderful and the service was excellent. Our waitress Heather was attentive and offered great suggestions from the menus. The crispy roll appetizer was a nice Thai version of an egg roll. Light, crispy batter and nice mix of chicken filling/vegetables. We had the Pad Ka Praw chicken entree with brown rice. The flavor was fabulous. Nice mix of ground chicken, red/green peppers and onions in a delicious brown sauce. The patio was nice added to the wonderful dining experience!

Stopped in for lunch the other day and really enjoyed my food. I had the lunch special, which comes with soup, an appetizer, and an entree. I went with the vegetable soup, the crispy rolls, and the panang curry with chicken (medium spice level, which was perfect for me). Everything was very tasty. Also, my waiter was pleasant and the price of the special was pretty reasonable. Ill likely go back again soon.

Worst restaurant experience Ive had in a very long time. Went for restaurant week. The option was a buffet. Buffet was a very generous term as they were out of everything. They seemed more concerned with filling the to go orders. When they did starts to refill, the food was still frozen in the center. Food was misplaced/labeled making it impossible for my gluten intolerant wife to eat. If I could give 0 stars I would

I ordered the pad thai and immediately knew something was off about it. It was so dry and I can’t even explain exactly how it tasted but it was not good so my waitress was able to make it half price. I also got a Thai iced tea which tasted spoiled. Plus the crab wontons were so greasy, but at least they tasted okay. I can’t even believe I’m being so critical because I never have issues like this but I literally left a restaurant hungry. I’m only giving 1 star because my waitress was really understanding and so nice

Excellent food and service. Appetizers were amazing and fried rice was the best I ever had. The main dish I had was the Noodle Combo. Very delicious. Only complaint is I wanted to have it again tonight for late dinner and I called at 9:30 pm and they said hey were closing. Closing at 9:30 or even 10:00 on a Saturday is not a good idea. I would highly recommend you try food just try earlier in the day!

If you like Thai food, even if you dont, Basil will take your tongue on a tasty tour de force. My first visit to Basil ( about a year ago set the stage for the rest of my visits to this day.... And I live in Dayton!Thai restaurants in Dayton, while clean and decent in regards to menu variety, didnt share the eye popping aesthetics of Basils urban and quite modern approach. That in collaboration with the warmest greeting from who I assume is the manager ( she is incredibly attractive and the amazingly tentative service should earn 5 stars alone; I was brought my drinks and food in almost no time. Our server was on point when refilling refreshments and carrying away used dishware. But what about the food? For appetizers, I recommend the Shrimp Rolls or Sweet Potato fries. I had the Basil Tilapia and Fried Rice for my main course. If you order a salad, I cannot suggest the house garlic dressing enough. Youll ask to take some home.Almost everything about Basil is garnished with an edge that speaks volumes through their service, atmosphere, and quite inventive flavors. I highly recommend this place. Great for first dates too!

We couldn’t be more disappointed! Horriable quality and extremely overpriced for what it was. Me and two coworkers ordered lich and each meal was $10. I picked up our food and brought back to office. Two had the pineapple curry and I had sweet and sour chicken. All three of us had white rice. It was served it a container with the rice on bottom soaking in the food. It looked like soup! The chicken was soooo soagy not crisp and the portion so small. No one ever serves rice in the bottoms of a dish at any Asian restaurant. The meal was very skimpy on meat and just all together a HUGE disappointment!!!

Basil is tucked a little bit off the beaten path, but we made it there! The wait staff was pleasant and attentive, and they had good recommendations. The happy hour specials were awesome, and the food was great (we had red curry and green curry, both fantasticbut it did take a while to come out. Maybe not the best place to go if you’re in a hurry. EXPENSIVE and sub-par (at best). It’s as if they made all the food in the morning and let it sit all day before serving it. Our food wasn’t awful, it was just VERY dry and flavorless. Got a chicken pad Thai, a beef version, and a red curry. The red curry was better but still just “meh”. Picked up my food at 7pm on a Sunday and not one person was in the place so I left thinking it wasn’t open. Figured out it was in fact open so I went on and found someone in the back to help me. Weird. First time there but definitely my last too.

Came here with a party of about 16 people. We arrived around 6:15 pm and unfortunately didnt get our food until about 8 - 8:30pm, even though it was not a busy night. We guessed they were understaffed. Their basil lemonade is delicious (I asked for one without alcoholand their red curry is alright. It was a little on the sweet side but had a good amount of heat. Their version of "crab rangoons" was average. It was wrapped in a wonton wrapper and fried and so there was a lot of wrapper vs stuffing. There is no kids menu so I ended up ordering an appetizer for my child. In the end I think Id rather go to the Vietnamese/Thai restaurant in my area than return here. This Basil location was a little difficult to find, which for me with a child in tow is an issue as I was walking around a couple alleys holding my toddlers hand wishing I had brought my pocket knife with me in case I was jumped.

They could do little bit more on service . When it comes to food, they do have good taste. However for some people it could be low on quantity side. So order multiple things if possible. Service was not right, but thats because they only had one person working upfront. Our ( or whole restaurantsserver tried her best to keep everything on place .

Great space. Would be really good for events. This place should be packed open to close based on appearance. But at the time I went the people were missing detracting from the experience. Many of the menu options can be ordered vegan. I ordered the Pad Thai. It was average. The noodles seemed undercooked, could have used more sauce, but the spice was just right. The food portion was too small for the price.I also ordered a Moscow mule. The bar was out of vodka so the drink.was made with rum instead. It was okay but how does a bar run out of vodka?Wait staff was fine, attentive. Not many people to wait on though at 8 pm on a Thursday.I give three stars for the food and drink, but give an extra star for the space and location. If the food gets its improved and the proportion to price ratio is corrected this place should be packed like the space deserves.

I eat lots of Thai while I travel around for work. Never been to one I wouldn’t go back to even if it was just okay. I won’t be back to Basil. Pot stickers were still cold inside, looked frozen store bought. Service was friendly but horribly slow. Younger servers which is fine, super nice but you can tell they haven’t been properly trained....no straws, no silverware, no attention to detail.

Unfortunately the only positive comment is the service. When I walked in the main entrance the glass windows were filthy. The main entrance was barren with a few tables, missing pieces of floor tile. Walking into the bar area to meet the host, a strong smell of grease stagnated in the area. I sat outside and ordered the beef with brown sauce. The drinking glasses were dirty as well with finger prints and some gunk on the glass. I chose not to drink my beverage. The food was average, some flavor with heavy salt. The beef was over cooked and the rice was dry, almost crunchy. It is highly unlikely I will ever return.

Food was okay. Not the most flavorful curry and a rather interesting choice of spices. Thai soup was good but pricey for a bowl considering the ingredients. Atmosphere was a bit cold and sterile- no music playing, etc. Wraps pictured were also okay; nothing special. Service was fine, but not incredibly attentive. We visited the downtown location. Parking meters, no lot.

I have never ordered myself, but have stopped several times as a delivery driver with various apps. Its hard to get to (off the streetwith limited meter parking or a more expensive garage. The servers are always attentive to drivers and customers, and always polite. However - food takes ages to be prepared. Im not sure if this is because they are acclimating to their location and demand and is temporary or if it is a more visceral problem indicative of poor kitchen staff and/or management. Plan ahead - maybe call your order in as carryout then arrive to pick up and decide to dine in once youre there.

The food is good. But after being to Thailand, I was a little disappointed when I tried eating their food again once I got back. It just didnt have the flavor that Authentic Thai food had. I think they were attempting for authentic Thai service, but they did better than the Thais do in that regard. They still forgot items that were ordered, and didnt bring food for everyone on my table at the same time, so if they were trying to match Thai service, they did that spot on.
