Bartlow Hills - Archaeological site in Cambridge, United Kingdom
when found , interrsting .
Very tranquil site with 3 massive Roman era barrows
Only 4 hills. #disappointed
Quite an interesting walk to see the hills the steps have been restored so you can climb to the top of the biggest one. Great views at the top
Visited Roman burial mounds today. I have lived in East Anglia for 15yrs but only came across the existence of these burial sites today after receiving a Book on Roman Site in UK as a Christmas present. So round up the dogs despite a wet day and arrived at Bartlow Church.Short walk later we came across a old railway cutting and immediately there were these three huge mounds. (Railway used to run between two of these mounds)I was astonished. Makes the Saxon mounds at Sutton Hoo look like Mole hills! The tallest (>40ftis accessed by steep timber steps to the top. There were 7 mounds. 3 large in height remain with a further three smaller or reduced in height.Being inquisitive I looked around for where the soil must have come from.Nearby there is a track to a area to what looks like a quarry as the ground is a lot lower and appears to have been a excavation. Very interesting place.
An interesting find, informative boards to read up on the history of the place. Also wasnt very busy when I visited. There is signs saying climbing is illegalBut there are man made trails to the top, which Id imagine would be quite dangerous in the winter and wet weather.I didnt spend a great deal of time here because it wasnt a big area to explore, but well worth the visit.
2 minutes off main road with parking.
Fascinating historical site
This is a very impressive site. It is a shame that the steps were broken and there is not a dedicated parking spot.
Sublime experience if you pick the correct time of day.
So peaceful and a great little walk up to the hills. Great for visiting with the kids too
Very impressive (highRoman burial mounds. The tallest mound has steps, but these are collapsing and there is a sign warning not to use them - do so at your own risk! Worth a visit if you are passing and interested in archeology/history - a nice inclusion to a ramble or cycle ride.
Hidden gem. Prehistoric mounds that quite obviously predate the Romans and his free from people most days.
Great place ,great food nothing too much trouble
Amazingly well preserved tumulii, a genuinely well hidden gem!
Interesting mounds. Good for a short walk, a brief marvel at the history and then back to the pub

Amazing to still have Roman burial sites here
Wow I didnt know this existed
Hidden gem
Very interesting here
Very interesting Roman Tumuli. I had no idea that Romans used this form of burial. They are vast. Much bigger than the neolithic ones. There are wooden stairs to the top of the highest one (more than 60 steps)
Roman tumuli
Three of originally seven barrows remain. The tallest is 15 metres heigh, and the largest barrow north of the Alps.[
Nice, remote burial mounds. Perfect for stargazing!
