Theyre known as the birth place of piña colada, however, their passion fruit mojitos are really good!! We had the paella and it was perfectly delicious. It is definitely suited for 2 people (hungrythe seafood was very tender, chorizo very flavorful, rice well cooked, moist yet firm. Price and quality goes hand in hand. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. It was our first time but surely not the last!

Bartender friendly and knowledgeable! Drinks were good at a fair price! Easy to find. Just a short walk from cruise terminal! We caught it coming from the Fort back to terminal! Easy walk down hill mostly! Plenty of shops and parks along the way!

Absolutely delicious dinner! Appetizer of the assorted PR delights was very tasty and not greasy, although fried. Really enjoyed! The Mofongo with lobster and shrimp is like a delicacy! The sauce was perfection and the best meal I had during out trip. The piña colada was, of course, outstanding! Highly recommend!

Had the Pina Colada here, definitely great, if you looking for a strong drink mix it with that Don Q 151. Had the Mofongo with beef and chicken, it was great not to mention the Red Snapper, it was also great. Service there was great also the bartender made the experience pleasant and welcoming.

Beautiful historic place; has indoor and outdoor dining and the best piña coladas on the island. Very warm staff and nice scenery

This place was delicious! The wait was only a few minutes to be seated. Everyone speaks English and Spanish. Great service. The Pina Colada was to die for and the food was amazing. Very large servings with lots of flavor. Had inside seating, as well as a center courtyard to sit and eat near the bar if you want to enjoy the weather. We will definitely return when in the area.

The Customer Service Was Slow. The Other Customer Next To Us Had To Ask Their Waiter How Much Longer Will Their Food Be Ready To Eat. The Food Portions Was Small. The Best Thing Really Was Piña Colada Honestly.

The best pina colada’s that you’ll ever have! We wanted to make a quick stop here since this is where they originally made them. Everything was delicious and the Puerto Rican sampler was a perfect small bite dish. Stop by if you’re around and try out the drinks, you won’t regret it!

Barachina was great! We really enjoyed ourselves! The Pina coladas were great and we hear that pina coladas were invented in this place, so we just had to try them. The food was absolutely amazing and the service was equivalent. We were so glad to get the recommendation from our friend.

30 minute wait on a Monday night may have been caused by a local holiday. Nice Sangria pitchers. Grouper Fillet was just right. Ceaser salad was huge. Decent Manhattan.

Barrachina has something very special about it. They will hold your bags for you from 8 am to 5 pm. Which allows you to explore old San Juan if you are waiting to check in, or have checked out but have a later flight. We tried the sampler for four and everyone seemed pleased with all of the food, except the stuffed plantains. The seafood was very good, the shrimp and grouper in particular. The Pina coladas are quite tasty, heavier on the pineapple flavor and lite on the coconut, which suits me fine. The staff was warm, friendly, and helpful.

My husband and I gave this restaurant a try our first day in Puerto Rico on 7/4/22. The home of piña colada’s was great !! Our food was delicious and large portioned. Definitely have to give their mofongo a try your stomach will thank you later lol. Remember you are on island time so the food service takes a bit longer to arrive than usual in the States.

A little touristic but so much fun. Food was awesome and the true Pina Colada experience. Kan Kan Pork was crazy and amazing. So was the Coconut Shrimp and the skirt steak. Liked it a lot even though it was a bit of a tourist trap. Takes a hot minute for food so make sure you have time. The chicken in plantain was awesome.

This was the cutest place to eat in Old San Juan. The food was delicious. I had the Fried Platain Canoe Stuffed with Skirt Steak and I havent had a better meal in San Juan. The Mofongo w Vegetables is a great vegetarian option and the flavor/texture was just tirhg.t The Pina Coladas are rhe real deal. Get them with Don Q Gold. Sit outside next tor he fountain or inside if the heat bothers you. Try to find a spot at the bar if its too packed. I would definitely come back.

We went in December 2020 (they were very strict with the whole mask situation, which made the experience a little uncomfortable- we had to pull up our masks as soon as we were done sipping our drinks). The food: The mofongo was okay but the piña colada was very good!

A solid piña colada. Not super sweet like most tend to be. The mixture is pre-made in those frozen drink machines and they add rum to the glass before serving the mixture (a heavy rum pour, may I add 🙂).The restaurant is gorgeous- located in an open air courtyard with plenty of shade and an indoor area. I sat at the bar in order to be seated immediately and it was a nice experience.I ordered the canoa relleno de pollo, which is a whole sweet plantain stuffed with chicken and topped with melted cheese. So delicious, but I wish the plantain was slightly more ripe. It wasnt as sweet as i would have liked. The shredded chicken is made with a tomato-based guiso and was very tasty (not dry at all). It came with a side of rice, beans, and a salad with passion fruit balsamic vinaigrette. Top notch 👌🏻Will be back to try the paella when I have some company- it is only available as multiple servings (not for a solo diner).

We went for lunch, no waiting line at around 12:30, but waited for 40 mins after food ready to serve, that’s the only reason why no 5 stars. Food was not bad, we ordered red snapper and seafood rice, decent price tags, worth a try.

Good Pina coladas! We had the paella, mofongo and plantain boat. Food was ok and service was decent. Harder area to get to, dont drive if you dont have to in Old San Juan. Lots of shopping close by

The place is not fully open and they dont take reservations which is a shame. You get there and put your name on a list and we had to wait an hour and a half to be seated. While we waited we ordered their Pina Colada which was excellent. But after that experience, we had a wonderful time. Food was delicious.

My wife and I went here based on a friend’s recommendation and although my wife really enjoyed the red snapper my dish didn’t do much for me.After a couple days of eating heavy dishes I went with the basic chicken breast for something on the lighter side. My main problem was the lack of seasoning/flavor. It was just a simple grilled chicken breast with beans and white rice. The beans and plantains brought life to the dish fortunately but not enough for me to order this again

😱 Okay, I love this place! The service, food and ambience were all exceptional! This is where they invented the piña colada! And it was delicious - with and without the rum!! The staff are amazing! They accommodated our request for a vegetarian pallea - 😋 It was so good!! 😊 I really loved their coconut flan too! I’d recommend it!Definitely plan to stop by here for your piña coladas and food!! They’ve a wait time so plan to put your name down for a table and shop the nearby souvenir stores and explore the cobbled streets of old San Juan!

Okay so this was my first time visiting old San Juan and on a Tuesday decided to give this place a try since I’ve looked it up a few times and seen a Instagram video about. Now let me being by saying I was seated promptly upon arrival at the bar the decor is vibrant and what you’d expect from a very tourist spot In Puerto Rico. Secondly the servers were attentive but it was about a 30 min wait from my appetizers to my actual main course. Overall other than the wait I enjoyed everything I tried the pina coladawhich most people go there for was a great mix of rum (you also can choose your alcoholif you’d like I’d honestly give this place 4 outta 5 with room for improvement

Kinda over rated🤷 food was very dry, and bland. Mofongo was extremely dry. Piña coladas where fantastic though. Bathrooms were tiny. Service was great. Kinda disappointed, since we har been excited to try it for quite some time.

So disappointed! The famous Pina Colada place of invention... seemed to come from what appeared to be icy machines. The food had no flavor. Waitress was less than friendly. Ambiance was fun and lively was about the only plus. This was our worst meal in San Juan and the most expensive. We were not happy.

This is a Puerto Rico staple and it was the first restaurant we tried. I ordered the Monfongo with chicken and shrimp and wings for appetizer. The wings were fried perfectly with a nice crisp. The Monfongo was the first we tried in PR and I’d give it a 3/5. It wasn’t bad but I was expecting more flavor. The pina coladas were good. Overall the experience here was nice. Expect to wait 45 min.

You cant go wrong going to the birthplace of the piña colada. I believe most seating is located in their courtyard, which was appropriate for one to sip on a cocktail drink. I ordered the mofongo with chicken and it was delicious 🤌🏽.

The place definitely lived upto the hype. This is the birthplace of pinacolada and they tasted yummy.the best place to get a table is 12-3 PM. I tried the red snapper fish and it is out of this world, definitely enjoyed my whole fish in a go. The prices were decent and the place is very vibrant and the vibe is happening. The waiters at this place are really attentive and caring. It has both outdoor and indoor seating. There is a wide range of menu available for multiple flavours in pinacolada and it is definitely heavenly during sun hours. I would definitely go again.

Nice restaurant with good vibe. I tried the Paella criolla and I didnt like the seafood was overcooked and it lacked flavor, for dessert I ordered rum cake and it was a bit dry. To drink I ordered a piña colada and it was very good. From my experience is a good place to have a drink but no to eat.

Great place to have drinks. Its very lively with good music playing in the background. I went to see about their famous Piña Coladas and I was a little disappointed. Dont get me wrong, it was good but I expected more . . .I guess from the hype. Prices are moderate and menu choices sound really good. Next time I will go back for a meal and a mojito.P.S: say Yes! To the rum cake!

I had the chillo entero (whole snapperwhich was perfectly cooked and well seasoned, flaky and juicy. The beans were delicious as well. Generous portions and the prices werent super crazy either. Walked right in and got seated immediately. Staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Would come back again.

On a wet rainy Saturday night in Old San Juan, we sat at the bar. Reuben the bartender made our night. The Pina Coladas were excellent, the service and food first rate. This place is truly worth all the accolades and rewards it receives. Definitely going again and high on our recommendation list.

Listen here folks I only leave reviews when I feel I have something to say, and it’s usually negative😂… this is the best Hispanic food I’ve ever had. I’ve been to Peru, Ecuador and I frequent chipotle so I get a little variety. I started my night with the pina colada of course. I got the double but it felt like 5 shots. Then we had the grouper fritters… amazing ! Then I had the plantain boat with skirt steak. *WOW* I recommend !!! Go here !! No regrets. I will be back when I visit Puerto Rico again.*pictured is my husbands dish… the Mofongo also delish!!

The ambiance, customer service, and delicious food all made for a lovely final meal in Puerto Rico; perfect way to culminate the trip. I ordered the fried plantain canoe stuffed with shrimp and it did not disappoint; the shrimp and plantains were cooked to perfect, and the dish was served with rice and beans and a side salad. I will say in my 3 days in Puerto Rico, this was the best rice and beans that I ate… and I ate a lot of rice and bean. The pina colada with Barrilito rum was amazing. The rum cake was delicious as well, however I will say that you definitely taste the rum in this cake. Customer service was good, though we often had to ask another server to get our waiter for us, but it wasn’t a big deal. When we arrived there was no wait, but it did get busy, so I’d certainly recommend making a reservation especially during peak times. Would certainly come back to this restaurant again.

Front door hosts was rude a little bit. She said you cant have a table for a drink only, you have to buy food. If you are going there for a drink, prepare to sit at the room by the bathrooms. Besides that the Pina colada is great.

One of the best dishes we had in San Juan. The food is delicious. Prices are a little bit cheaper than in the rest of the town. Staff is very polite and helpful. We waited 1h to receive a table. Its better to make a reservation before due to the high demand. I definitely recommend it.

Ordered Pina Colada and seafood mofongo. The food is good but its a too long waiting. We know its busy on Christmas day. We arrived at 5:10 pm and was told that we need to wait an hour for the seat. This is totally fine.We got in at 6 pm, was sitting and waiting there for 20 mins without anyone come to serve us, even no water is served. After we ordered the food, it took another 40 mins until we started to eat. Again, I like the food I ordered, but the service is far behind the their food quality. Hope this is only my personal experience.

Surprisingly good considering its a cruise ship tourist destination. Put your name in early and get on their list for a text message when your table is ready. Reasonably priced and some of the better Puerto Rican food we had on the island. The fried plantain canoe with skirt steak was particularly good, with the sweetness of the ripe plantain a nice flavor combination with the steak. Mofongo is a mash of green plantains with seasonings. It was a bit coarse here, but the seafood version was good. The pina coladas are as good as advertised, try them with Don Q. Garlic shrimp appetizer was about six shrimp. Decent. All in all reasonably priced and recommended. If youre willing to wait the time it takes to get in. You can always get Pina coladas to go but I waited in line for almost 45 minutes for that. Our table was almost ready but time that was over, lol.

The virgin Pina Colada is so good!! Seafood Mofongo is good but the red snapper is a bit too salty. It was a popular restaurant on Christmas so we waited for 30mins for seating and over 30 mins for food. Overall good atmosphere and food.

This restaurant is known for its Pina Coladas. Well, I had one and I understand why. My wife enjoyed a Mojito. Then, for lunch we shared a Mofongo with shrimp sauteed in creole in a delicious creole sauce. Very filling and delicious. A great place to go to for lunch or dinner in Old San Juan. I strongly recommend Barrachina.

* Inventor of Pinacolada *This place is overflowing with authenticity and you can enjoy your meal here for hours.I found the table management system was accurate. The menu was short but it was well designed and very cheap too!We were 2 folks and could get done with lunch in $40 including a dessert!I absolutely have the Pinacolada taste on my tongue and cannot forget it in my life!It is one of the thickest and the testiest Pinacoladas Ive ever tried!Folk should also try the Morongo here.A must recommend for people looking to try Puerto Rican food and drinks!

So I really wish I could write a better review as it took me 3 days to actually get on the reservation list. FYI You have to go 1-3 hours in advance to get on the list and if you go after 5/6 you will not get on the list. We came with a large party 1/2 of us liked our food 1/2 just didn’t like the flavor. It’s not as bold and flavorful as comparable restaurants. The fried chicken wings were awesome , the paella was good except the lobster was extremely over cooked so it was hard to eat and the Pina colada was good (I’ve had better on the island but I appreciate this being the birth placebut overall it was a tad underwhelming, but the staff were nice and the food came out fairly quick and it’s a staple if your visiting the island so go for a nice drink and appetizer I wouldn’t do dinner again.
