Barna Woods in Galway
Description
Privilege
Sticky.
Very small at first glance, but if you decide to go off the path, youll discover beautiful scenery and can spent 1-2 hours exploring the area.Great for dogs too!
MoreNeed more bins and public bathroom!
A lovely walk. The woods were just splendid, a nice a spacious wooded area with little bridges throughout.
MoreLovely beach, the only reason not rate this with 5 stars is lack of restaurants, caffe bars, shops and some other contents that would keep people long in there. Parking is also real pain, this must be sorted if the place wants to see more tourists.
MoreWell maintained and a lovely woods to walk through. Handy access too and connecting in to Cappagh Park as well.
MoreSuch a lovely place!! An easy walk for the whole family. Kids loved climbing and jumping on the rocks and there is a playground at the far corner of the park. Great place for a short stop.

Lovely walk, especially with the dogs and kids, walk straight through to cappagh Park which is handy :)
MoreA natural magical little gem of an ancient woods. Galways nicest woods. Great way to chillax and reconnect with nature on half day trip from the city. It has one main path that just takes 10 / 15 mins to reach far side.It discects the woods (leading from main woods car park entrance straight through to Cappagh park where theres a childrens play ground and loads of playing fields and pathed walks). Theres several other unguided paths to explore with proper sturdy footwear. You can enter Barna Woods 3 or 4 different ways.1.Coming from the city, main entrance is from a small Barna woods car park on rhs 100metres after texaco service station on Barna road. 2. park at Rusheen bay carpark located immediately on lhs after Texaco ( nice short pathed costal walk here to enjoy first if you like and picnic tables to have a picnic as your reward at the end of your tromp through Barna woods). Walk to Barna woods by turning left from Rusheen bay carpark exit along a footpath til you see the Barna woods entrance on opposite side. 3. For a longer walk, park( or take busto Cappagh Park on Cappagh Rd. Walk to pedestrian entrance to Barna woods on far left hand side of Cappagh park. To extend further you can track through Barna woods to a pedestrian exit adjacent to Barna Church, exit there and cross the road (carefully as its busyto the entrance road to Silver Strand beach. (Its a lovely safe swimmers beach so bring a rucksack with your swimmers n towel n picnic if you fancy a dip n snack before you return home the same way on foot4. park at either Barna church car park or at Silver strand and walk to the hole in the wall on the corner of Barna Woods city located on left as you approach from Barna church in the direction of the city. Dog and family friendly. Bring dogie pooh bags. Bin provided at both ends of the main path. To grab s Coffee or snacks for a picnic. Nearest shops at Texaco or if approaching from Cappagh rd/Cappagh park then you could google Cappagh stores on Cappagh rd.Enjoy!
MoreBarna Woods is so beautiful. To take a walk or ramble through it is so good for the mind and soul....
MoreLovely place to go for a walk & parking available both in Barna woods & across the road in Rusheen Park.
MoreLovely walks and beautiful trees and brooks. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Good for dogs walk
Beautiful woods, well taken care off. There is a main pathway you can walk or cycle. Theres also a few other off the beaten tracks into the forest area that proves to be beautiful and lush.
MoreNature is so alive here and thrives at just a half hour bus trip from the city centre. The trees are so beautiful and make for an amazingly evocative landscape. You wouldnt be surprised to find yourself sharing some magic herbal tea with a fae! Highly recommended
MoreWent here the weekend with my family. Very enjoyable walk
A good little forest, free parking, doggy bags at the entrance, trash bin at some corners.Very good for walking the furry ones and to get some fresh air.
MoreNice walk, small area, but nice to get off the beaten track.
A beautiful park with moss covered trees and a forest floor covered in a bed of leaves. Youll find streams running through this place. Its perfect for a walk or a stroll with a loved one. The best way to describe this would be an enchanted forest.
MoreGreat woods contains a well that Saint Enda blessed and has cured blindness. A bird sanctuary is also on site Great walking trails. Historical trees and a great cross of wildlife can be seen.
MoreLove these woods for a walk. Its so nice to wander off the trail and find so many interesting plants and old structures.

MoreHere you feel like youre entering a Robin Hood movie! Its such a beautiful place! Its easy to walk around and let me warn you: be prepared to take a lot of pictures! Important to say that this place its on bus routes.
MoreLovely walking route in to cappagh park
Wonderful and relaxing woods for walk
Pleasant walking area sandwiched between a park and next to a beach. Recently paved and now the main path is more accessible.
MoreMovie like views. Check it in person before you see it on the TV.
Beautiful walk. Imagine its nice even in the rain. Folks have even added the odd faerie door!
MoreIts quite and rich place to explore. I went there by myself. I could ride a bicyle and walk around.
MoreSo weve been there as part of our trip to the Connemarra. Although this is a nice and pretty place to get fresh air, it is not really worth a dedicated stop in my opinion. The woods are nice, and the rivers flowing are peaceful.
MoreGreat place to go for walk with family or just for run. Sometimes a little bit crowded.
MoreGreat place for all kind of excersize..bike,walk,etc.woods have this magic feeling 😍
MoreCame for the first time last month and loved the greenery! Great place to take your dog out for a walk.
MoreBarna Woods is a fantastic forest to bring your dogs or go for long walks because there’s so much to explore and the green in the trees are so beautiful! You walk through it in awe of the trees and the spots of light through them.
MoreGreat to see natural green woodland preserved well by Galway City Council and the Barna-Knocknacrra locale, beautiful as it was 15 years ago
MoreIts a very good short walk. It is kept very neat and tidy for a woods. Ypu would be hard pressed to find a more litter free wood. Car park can be a bit tight so nearly worth parking at the church and walking over. Its at its best in autumn. Paths and water features could use some TLC but all and all a good days out.
MoreGood place for meet friends and enjoy the summer. Easy to find. You must take the bus 424 at the train station.
MoreA small wood that abuts Cappagh Park. There is a large carpark at the Cappagh park entrance bit it seemed closed when I visited March 2018 due to works. I parked in the small carpark at the Barns Wood entrance, surprisingly full for a Wednesday morning. There were no maps at the entrance and the trails not marked bit reasonably self explanatory. A lovely, if small, wood great for a quick stop for a nature fix or short walk. I did a circuit of the Wood and the Park which lasted approx 30-40mins walk. I dont think I could have made it a longer walk unless I did another lap. The Wood has dirt trails which look like it gets muddy when wet but the Park has asphalt.
MorePath is a little wet and muddy at times, so be careful. It can be cold under shade of trees, so jacket might be good idea. Other than that its a really lovely forest that brings you back to a more medieval times.
MoreAbsolutely stunning woods in autumn and winter, in my opinion
