Brick-lined grill with an industrial ceiling & an open kitchen offers burgers, franks & local music.
I loved this place so relaxing and soothing environment inside and i didn’t come in with high expectations but i was surprised with the most delicious sandwich oh and Philly cheesesteak sandwich delicious as well ! I recommend
Beautiful restaurant with good food and milkshakes! The waitress was super friendly and I’m assuming the owner came over to check on how our meal was! We ordered two burgers and the meat was amazing! They are willing to customize pretty much anything and accept the RAD card! Make sure to try to milkshakes!
First review. From first experience, excellent customer service with great excellent clean food. The place is spotless very clean environment. Very friendly chef & Owner, My food order is amazing. The chili 😋 is great very savory. The chili dog so fresh perfect flavor not salty at all with the chili and dog w cheese. The next order i put in should for sure get the 4th start for consistency. Ty very much im very happy with my experience here at "The Barking Dog".
The food here is great and Lacey is a wonderful waitress! Try the milkshake for a sweet treat :)There will always be some great art on the walls to admire. Ive been here a few times and the food is always great. Will definitely be visiting again soon!
I just love going here for a good burger. The atmosphere is great. It can get a little loud, due to open seating areas, but the food is great. They have a few variations of hot dog and hamburger, but all are always cooked to perfection. For a lighter lunch the salmon salad is great too!
They have the BEST burgers in town!! Absolutely delicious..... Barkin Dog Grill has been added to our "FAVORITE" places to eat...
When I went I absolutely loved the food here. Me and my family were in a little bit of a rush but we still managed to grab a quick bite and enjoy it. I would definitely recommend eating here whether it’s just for a quick bite or if you would like a sit down meal. The staff there was very nice, we will most definitely be going back.
Fries were great! Service was good too. The burger was pretty good. Honestly it was just the bread. I shouldnt have gotten the chaibatta(sp?bread. Took away from the burger flavor. I wish google had a half a star option 😕
We stopped in for lunch on New Years Eve. Thankful they were open..We had the chili cheese dog with fries and the meatball sub with onion rings..Our food was hot and delicious! OMG, those onion rings.... you MUST try them, crispy but melt in your mouth deliciousness!.The customer service was spot on! We will definitely be back!
I was in the good of moods ... that morning wasnt going well and I though I didnt want to do a review on a restaurant in that kinda of mood ....I have to say its kinda dark inside .... not helpful on the mood ....lolI seen the workers were super friendly.... and I have to say beyond normal.... the food was good ... had the philly cheese steak.... it was good ... but what stranded out to me was the Hospitality.... made me smile... it made me forget why I was in that mood anyway.... I would go back .... it has good people skills .. even the chef told me good bye. .. was a nice touch ....
Food want anything like I expected. I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich. It only had some chopped up dry meat on it. No veggies. My granddaughter has the meatball sandwich and it was very dry. There wasnt hardly any sauce on it at all. So it was very dry. But... The fries were perfectly made. Service was really good as well. But there was a huge dead water roach under our table that kicked out from under our feet.
Great burgers and fries!!!Everything was hot right off the grill! Our waitress was superb!!! She was so sweet and attentive. I would give her an A+
The food was delicious. I had the gorgonzola bleu burger. Was juicy, delicious, and all round excellent burger. Their regular and sweet potato fries are off the hook. Cant wait to visit Modesto again so I can trh another burger or hot dog from them.
Excellent onion rings, awesome soups, burgers and of course hot dogs. My second visit. I also enjoy that they are in an older brick building and have really worked within that architecture. A convenient parking garage is just across the street.
This is a burger place with a lot of class. Their burgers are absolutely delicious, flavorful and moist. The customer service is pretty on point. I was greeted warmly and my food was made quickly. The vegetables tasted fresh as well. They also feature local art work that will lead way to some good conversation. I didnt find the noise level to be overly loud, and the temperature of the restaurant was a bit on the warmer side, so just be sure to dress in layers.
2 stars is being generous. My wife had a chili dog and the chili seemed to be extremely old and dry, think Stagg chili that had been sitting in warmer for a few days. I had the chicken wing salad and it was very bland and dry. The tea was nasty. Wife did like the dessert at least and server at least tried to be kind, minus her telling us about throwing up many times night before... Was very slow also and there was only 1 other table occupied at time.
It was a summer day and the place was too warm to really enjoy our stay. Also, even though their specials were posted outside on a sandwich board, they wouldnt allow us to order them since they were lunch specials. We were there just before 3:00 p.m. Our food was OK, but again hard to enjoy because of the temperature of the restaurant. We will probably go again to support local business, but the service and A/C situation will probably be a factor.
Great food and pretty good service (I have to say pretty good" as they can get pretty busy)! We like to come for the music nights.Miss breakfast, though. Thankfully I got the red potato" recipe before it was too late!! Thats the best! You should offer it for dinners, really!!
I was so impressed with the new York 0hikky cheese steak sandwich. crispy bread and tender meat. and HOT HOT HOT. each bite was crispy and the fires were amazing. the atmosphere was inviting and the servers were amazing. Good time Good music
We always have such a great time here listening to live bands while we enjoy our lovely Salmon Salad!! Priscilla definately tops any waitress service.. Shes AWSOME! If youve never been its sure a place for dinner..
Long wait time more than 30 minutes. We went there around 630pm and got our order on table 40 minutes after. It wasnt too busy either, just slow service I guess. Food was good though. Live band was cool but too loud.
Hannibal is a charming and wonderful host. The food is truly delicious and cooked so perfectly. The Shroom burger is complimented very well by the smoky chipotle mayo, the veggies are so fresh! The fries are perfectly crisp, not overdone and seasoned nicely.I highly recommend Barking Dog for your spot to relax and enjoy!
Hanibal, the owner is the most disrespectful pile of useless meat and bones that Ive ever met. Cock roach infested Petrie dish. A cesspool of discustting filth. And the food is poor, came to us cold. Over priced. Poor service. All around bad experience. To be honest I cant fairly review the food because I could barely make myself take a bite. And the worst part was when I finally complained the owner was very unreasonable, wouldnt even offer to fix the meal or return my money. And I attribute the poor service to how he was treating his employees. He appeared to be ranting and a little psychotic. I felt sorry for the poor kids. I dont know how anyone could work like that.
Papa Burger just the way I like it. Special orders don’t upset them. I’m a picky eater and they are happy to accommodate me. Very artsy and eclectic look which I love. Always service with a smile. In a hurry, let them know and they’ll treat you right. The prices are fantastic. I highly recommend the Barkin Dog. Where else can you have a burger and enjoy cool art and chandeliers? What are you waiting for? Head on our there and tell them that Tom sent you.
I liked the live music and the food was pretty good.
I thought I posted this already but - we were walking down the street and saw this place to eat.Being from Chicago we tried their Chicago hot dog. It wasnt as good as what I could get back home but it was a very good hot. They treated my dog very well so much so I became jealous. I would definitely recommend this place and we will be returning here before we go back to Chicago.
The waitresses were wonderful. The manager was not nice to the waitresses. It really upset me. They allowed Bluegrass music tonight and it was outstanding. I will go back for more bluegrass. The food was over priced but I will pay it for the great bluegrass music.
I LOVE THIS PLACE! great food and service!!!
My wife and I came here and enjoyed our first ground dry-aged Burger, I was pretty impressed with the flavor. We stopped in again this past Friday evening and were super happy with the new ciabatta roll being used for the bun, nice and soft but hold everything in place with no mess.Hopefully that bun sticks around for a while, its a winner.
Delicious. I got the Italian Sausage with onions and peppers. Perfectly prepared.Great Lunch spot. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area.I think the price is reasonable for California. Ive not found a better lunch spot in Modesto.
Outstanding as usual! The Barking Dog is one of my favorite places to eat in Modesto, and never fails to deliver delicious food in a warm and inviting venue. Our party had the saffron chicken sandwich, the buffalo chicken salad, and be Gorgonzola Burger, all with the wonderful sweet potato fries on the side. Perfection-- a great mix of textures, flavors, colors, and quite a big serving per plate. We followed with a chocolate peanut butter shake that was enough for all 3 of us and loaded with mini peanut butter cups-- yum! Will definitely be back, as everything on the menu is guaranteed to please. Enjoy!
The Hot Dog & Fries I got were decent. But they were pretty much standard. Noting particularly interesting or exciting to report. If you want a hot dog in the area, its totally adequate.Service was fine as well.
I found this place by accident, but it resulted in a happy family with full tummies lol. Most of my family had burgers of different variations, but one of the kids had chicken tenders. We were all really quite impressed by the flavors of the burgers; there was something about them that carried this really nice flavor. Im not sure if it was the meat itself, or some other component, but there was an unexpected and pleasant depth of flavor present (and Ive eaten my share of burgers). The chicken tenders were actually above the mark too, which was just as unexpected (because who really orders tenders expecting real flavor? Lol), and we all had to have a bite! On another note, everything is a la carte, but the pricing is reasonable and the location is convenient for catching a movie or a ball game.
Great place to watch live music, with a casual menu that has things like burgers, fries, and salads. They have two vegetarian sandwiches available. I dont recommend the veggie burger, the falafel burger is much better. Their sweet potato fries are tasty.Blues Monday showcase great local talents on the 2nd monthly Monday at 7. Get there early to get a table.
Great food, good atmosphere, limited beer selection but lots of menu options. Live music on the Thur-Sat evenings.
They trashed the decor at the place, so it no longer looks like the photos that Google shows. The food tasted too sour, dry, and awful. The floors are discolored and dirty. The prices are very expensive; they charge you $5.99 for a deformed and overcooked hot dog and over-salted fries! The service is also way too slow. That is why I am rating it one star. I have no idea what these other reviewers are talking about.
- Ordered coffee and it was not hot. The cup was half empty. I asked for another one and it took 20 minutes. I asked for a cream and it never came. 16 minutes later, I asked for a refill and it took another 15 minutes. I was done....I said forget it.- WAITERS: They are grumpy; they even get mad at you complaining that they have too many customers (the place was only half empty at the timeand one of the waiters said they dont have time all day telling us to hurry up.- FOOD: Not very good and very expensive.-BATHROOM: Not very clean, dirty, and wet.- SERVICE: Worst place Ive ever been to.- ORDERS: We ordered food that cost between $11-16 dollars each for 9 people; it took so long. We asked the waiter what they were while they food was being brought in; both waiters could not name what they were and just walked away; she told us to figure it out ourselves.- DO NOT EVEN COME TO THIS LOUSY PLACE.- Do not believe the 4-5 stars you see here; they could be a fake review.
Great food for Reasonable prices I love it here. Love the way it looks very relaxing and Great service from the team
This place has great burgers and fries, but last time I had a salad and it was good too. Dessert selections are either made in house or purchased from a local baker. They have live music on Thursdays - local musicians.
We hadnt been here for a couple years. The tables are quite crowded together. We enjoyed the blue grass music while we had a couple beers and dinner. The onion rings were crispy, but not quite as good as The Fox Pub. The french fries were fantastic. There were very crisp and stayed that way until the last one. Normally I dont care much for the french fries, but you have to try these. I had the grilled vegetable sandwich. I thought it would be more like grilled cheese. There was too much bread and the salsa tase of the spicy tomatoes I could have done without. I think Ill have a hamburger next time.
Amazing food, AMAZING live music features talented local artists on its walls monthly. And its family owned, supports artwalk, outside dining, cool people. It seriously doesnt get better than this in Modesto
Very nice people. Family nights are fun. They have young musicians come and perform which is always entertaining! Missing one star only because it can be hard to find a seat. Great sandwiches!
Best burgers in town! Love the ambiance and wait staff. The owner Hannibal is friendly and remembers everyone when they come back. Makes his guests feel welcome each time.
Great food and treats, owners are very supportive of the local music, poetry, and arts community. Live music every weekend, Blue Monday music jams, poetry slam on Tuesdays, live jazz jam every Thursday... Restaurant can get hot and noisy, if its packed the service will slow down. I recommend the Salmon salad or burger, or order a grilled cheese with the Tomato Basil soup instead of fries. And the Veggie sandwich. I hear their burgers and dogs are tasty.
This place is spot on with the food! The waitress looked like she was incapable of smiling, which defiantly effected her tip. With that being said the hamburger meat is grass fed & dry aged then hand formed. The bacon for my burger was cooked on the spot at the same time which ensured freshness. The owner is a very nice and warm gentleman, and definitely cares about the food he cooks.
The burgers here are amazing, the milkshakes are the absolute best in the area. The live music is always good. The only complaint is the parking in the area is hard to come by a lot of the time, but its to be expected for the downtown location. Definitely reccommend trying it
This has to be Modestos best kept secret! The live music is top quality, and the wait staff is friendly and courteous! Also, they have the best sweet potato fries in Stanislaus county!
Quintessential Modesto locals bar with original art and live music by area artists and musicians. Great community establishment. They serve a thick yummy chocolate shake, if youre not interested in drinking while listening to the local musicians.
Great place, nice atmosphere. Not sure why people would complain about parking, there is a garage across the street, but I am always able to find something on the street anyway. Food is very good. Hot dogs and burgers at a fair price. Staff is always friendly.
Great place to grab a burger and fries in downtown Modesto. The owner is an awesome guy that pays a great amount of attention to customers especially the regulars. Great seasoning on the grilled cheese sandwich and you cant go wrong with the chicken finger basket. Make sure you ask for the fries crispy. Pretty decent milkshakes too!
