Omg .. yes it was getting close to closing ,but to serve our food as takeout isnt acceptable in view of the pricing and to do it without telling us in advance is garbage.If you are closed lock the doorDont tell prople to go when they walk in ( this happened to 4 couples while we finished a glass of wine)To be blunt ..the idustry has been bleating about being hard done by ,yet here a business turns away custom and treats its customers poorlyYou guys need to do a kiwi host course to understand the meaning of good service .Oh btw thank you so much for telling me i was welcome to eat my takeout scone there , even though i paid top buck for it and you didnt bother to heat it ... you actually dont deserve 2 stars for the food ... if i wanted a cold muffin in a paper bag i would have gone to mcdonalds

Wonderful food and friendly staff; consistent over the years and with different owners. Easily the best cafe/restaurant in Palmerston North! They have a good wine selection available, but are exceptional in also allowing BYO. All their food is excellent whether Vegan or Angus steak or duck. Desserts to die for! A treasure!

Three of us called in for an afternoon break. We received a friendly greeting, we ordered, and were served at the table quickly.The tea was in proper pots, and proper bone China cups were used. The food was delicious, and in generous portions.Its a very pleasant place to be, with character, and atmosphere, great staff, and best of all, you get a proper cuppa.

Served quickly, clean and tidy staff, well presented restaurant, I recommend the chicken filo, salad was light, fresh and delicious, cheesecake was lovely, coffee was good quality. Food was served first and then drinks which was excellent due to time being given to enjoy food without drinks getting cold. I recommend highly.

Fast, efficient service. Good quality food. Wait staff were well presented, helpful and friendly. Barista is popular, so there were many people charting, but it still feels sufficiently private at our table.The mural and artwork give Barista a lovely ambiance.There are also 2 clean, unisex, accessible toilets for customers.Thoroughly recommend 😊

Vegan breakfast must have been created and cooked by someone who doesn’t care about flavour and hasn’t bothered to even open a vegan recipe tab let alone a vegan cook book. Can’t believe I paid $24 for something I used to make (betteras a 19 yo new vegan in the 90’s. Disgusting, sloppy and bland. Even the mushrooms and spinach were over done on budget bread. Service team were lovely tho.

Love it. Always a good meal here. Just a coffee or a dinner out it has never disappointed. Staff are all brilliant. Good space for meetings, and being able to get dinner menu as takeaway is an added bonus

Just popped in for a quick lunch so ordered counter food. Chicken filo was delicious and lasagne was amazing, side of small fries was huge! Beautiful crispy fresh salad with each dish made it perfect, quick friendly service, terrific, thanks.

I love Barista! Its the perfect spot for any sort of gathering. Great for lunch, coffee or as a proper dinner. They have an awesome menu selection as well as tasty cabinet items. Really good portions and well priced. It has a nice relaxed vibe and is great for any sort of get together.

Whenever someone asks me where to get good Coffee in Palmerston North I tell them to come here, hands down the best coffee in town especially if Damian is working - king of coffee! Food and service is always top notch too - their baked cheesecake and fries are my go to.

Brunch menu looks better than lunch menu ! Have a good atmosphere and wide seating area. Large portions. Food took a while but good service.

This is a great spot with options to sit outside or inside. The staff is very hpful and the menu is varied and very tasty. I had the breakfast and it was a great start to a Sunday. This is a great place to socialize with friends and family or grab a nice bite by yourself. The staff are extremely competent, friendly and the food comes out quickly and is well prepared. Highly recommended if you are dowtown Palmy!

Barista use to be a nice place to regularly dine.Beef salad over cooked. Scotch "fillet" was half gristle and fat - served with sauce that covered it completely on top when the plate was delivered to the table. Turned over showed how low grade the meat was.Very polite and friendly service team.

I happened to be at Barista for a cuppa occasionally and every single time I have an exceptional service and delicious Afogatto no matter who is serving. Last time I got spoiled rotten as they had an out of this world quality Florentine. I know as I was selling them in a German deli. This Florentine tasted even better like a home made one. Keep it up, team. You are awesome.

As usual the food and service lived up to their fantastic reputation. Confitt duck and pork & sage meatballs , roasted potatoes were divine. The chef catered for special orders.The desserts were above and beyond. Amazing size portions. The lemon cake was divine, carrot cake and sticky date delicious as usual.The atmosphere and staff service made it a lovely evening.

Our fave café to visit whenever we come to Palmie! Inside and outside seating and clean toilet facilities, with some more cool wallpaper to lead the way.

Popped in for dinner on a whim, and they were very accommodating. The meals were amazing, the desserts fabulous, but the lovely, friendly wait staff really capped the meal off.

Lovely busy cafe on a Saturday am. Clear signs of Level 2 outside & inside as well as staff smiling to request all customers to register on their Covid19 app. Bright, Sharp & clear paintings around the cafe. Quick orders after browsing the brunch menu. Food served about 15min later. Succulent juicy beef cubes, browned white mushrooms, grill chicken breasts, black olives, crunchy bread sticks. Good coffee & ice blend mocha came with a scoop of ice cream. Good ambience despite the busy social distancing crowd. Ample paying street parking

I had heard good things about this place before going. When I went today I was greeted by friendly staff at FIRST. After we ordered some beverages we waited for some time for them to be brought to us. When some of our drinks came a rude staff member who looked in his mid 40s with no hair on the top and a receding hairline delivered our drinks. He put one of the drinks down and asked where the other one was to go 2 people said loudly and clearly over there while politely pointing to the other side of the table. I was on the far side of them on the table and heard them clearly. The middle aged man snapped at us Speak up next time so I can hear you, in the most rude, childish voice. Looking at it now he was probably going through a mid life crisis and needed hearing aids. This showing of customer service was egregious and he brought down the whole mood of the table. All the other waiters were very kind but this deaf old man made the cafe look worse then it really is. I will definitely go to cafe Cuba next time. Overall my experience at barista was not as good as I would have expected judging by my time at other cafes.

One of my regulars, good coffee, fries and cabinet food are nice, highly recommend the antipasto platter. Very friendly staff who were so kind to my grandmother!The only downside is that it isnt easy to fit a pram, but you cant expect everywhere to have the ability for that.

Went with a friend for breakfast, service was good and food came quickly, although the coffees were a little slow. Food was good nothing extremely special, I ordered the french toast with salted caramel, bacon and maple syrup, and my friend got the eggs benedict with added hash browns and mushrooms. The french toast was far too sweet but I still managed to enjoy it. Overall a good meal, probably wouldn’t come back for breakfast but would be keen to try the lunch menu!

Great place, excellent service, delicious food, went here in the evening for dessert, I had the sticky date pudding with vanilla bean ice cream and cream my partner had the creme brulee with rhubarb and a sorbet, very tasty.

I like how barista is open so late. I quite like the food. Im also impressed by the pricing of the hot drinks and the large tea selection, which is fun. Something I didnt take a photo of but people never seem to mention is the wall paintings are actually seriously beautiful, they depict a whole heap of characters from fairy tales interacting in different ways. Something you have to come check out.

10:10 Perfect Cappuccino. Perfect temperature, texture and taste. Had extra large Cappuccino in a bowl - Awesome. If you enjoy great coffee - this is the best in Palmy - Highly Recommend.

Stopped for lunch while driving from Napier to Wellington. Service, food and coffee all amazing. Also great for kids.
