Barge East in Jalalabad

Came here for my partner’s birthday, dinner was delicious and the atmosphere is just really special:maybe a bit pricey and hot down there but I would definitely go again for my own birthday!EDIT:Went back for the Sunday Roast and had to crank up my review to full stars this time, as it was delicious! Great portions! The porchetta was so good, and the shallot tart. But the best of the best was the leek gratin as a side dish!

Honestly had the perfect evening at Barge East. Me and my partner went there for our 6th anniversary dinner. What really impressed me was the service and the atmosphere and of course the food and drink. While the lighting made it a little difficult to read the menus other then that the atmosphere was really lovely and romantic. We were served by Faith and she made us feel really welcome and looked after. Would definitely recommend this place and we will hopefully be back again at some point.

You go for the location and damn it is quite the location.It is quite expensive for what you get (you are paying for it being hip and trendy - classic London). It has reasonably tasty food and good variety but is just super pricey.But is definitely fun!

Went for the Sunday roast with my partner. Couldn’t fault it if we tried. From the incredible food that melted in your mouth and the generous portion sizes the best part was the service. We had Faith serving us who recommends workout over charging an incredible bottle of wine, they were good fun and super attentive.

Cant say enough nice things about this restaurant on a barge.1. Staff: from greeting, wait service, chef, manager made our experience comfortable, fabulous, as if we popped into dear friends home.2. Chefs take on both their home grown food integrated into the menus, use of entire product, beak to tail so to speak is ecological and arrests our conscience. Inventive and tasty.3. You ask about the booze. Cocktails again use of their own produce, and OMG slow down as you will be deceived!! Amazing. Wine, curated nicely with the food.Sadly, I came with the wrong person but this is definitely a place to bring that special person. Proposal, 1st date, romanticism abounds.

We wanted to eat here ever since we passed by on a canal walk in May and finally made it on Sunday. From the moment we reached the door it was a fantastic experience, every member of staff was attentive and helpful. We were recommended to have a couple of starters while waiting for the mains and these didnt disappoint. Salty oily sardine on sourdough and Turnip Babe Ghanoush with seaweed cracker and pickled radish. We both went for roast dinners, Beef for me and Lamb for the good lady. Although the plates were full this was not a trenchermans Sunday roast. Every element was perfectly executed and presented with pride. Duck fat roast potatoes, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Divine miso carrots and cavallo nero with proper Yorkshire puds and a light but very tasty gravy.We heartily recommend that you give Barge East a try. You will not be disappointed and a visit to the restrooms will be sure to bring a smile to your face!

Had a wonderful Sunday roast with friends this past weekend; we ordered lots of the starters to share before I had the lamb - definitely get the leeks as a side to share, they were insane. We were sat on the long table on the top deck and it was perfect way to spend the afternoon in Hackney. Great wine and friendly staff to top it off, looking forward to going again soon.

Lovely setting, awesome staff, good food. We had roast and I think £20 for a few roast potatoes, carrots and shallot tart is a bit steep, it was tasty but not good enough (or enough of itto justify the price. Only one vegan roast option👎

The tasting menu was an incredible experience, the food was so interesting and fresh from their garden. We came on a Sunday and the roasts were fantastic. We will really well looked after by faith, thank you! Wine pairing really well done also.

Fabulous food, ambience, staff and overall experience! Tip top Sunday toast, interesting cocktails with ingredients grown in the Barge East garden, and sophisticated desserts. Had a group table on deck for my Dads birthday and the staff couldnt have been more accommodating - they even brought him cake and signed a card!! Really blown away. The setting is gorgeous too, perched on the canal. The tables in the garden look fab also, and inside the boat would be great for cooler months. Its dog friendly too. Great quirky and memorable experience - be sure to book well in advance. Thanks Barge East!

D vibe, d ambience was really fun, my only advise try to book ahead and reserve a spot in the restaurant before visiting, my big mistake, as I could not find a place to seat down… but I enjoyed visiting tho

Popped in for a Sunday roast with some friends. Service was incredibly slow, we had to hunt down the staff to get menus, to take an order and to get the bill. The food was tasty, however the portion size / veg to meat ratio was a bit off. A bit on the expensive side for what you get.

overpriced burgers that are cold, dry and most disappointingly — stale meat. service charge was non optional when there wasn’t any at all.

Really enjoyed my lunch here. The food was really good (i had the lamband the bloody mary was also excellent. The setting was really lovely - nice views along the canal and the staff were great and friendly.

we didnt end up going onto the boat because it was rather hot.careful: they have two different menus (one for the boat and one for the garden)the garden area is super nice, they grow veggies and herbs and youll sit between the greenery with a look to the canal.its no high end dining but typically Hackney ❤️what to get?the lemonade is great. its not homemade but still super delicious (not really sweet but tangy)the buttermilk chicken burger is awesome and the rosemary fries very good.the pulled beef burger was good but had a little too much beef on in (imo).

Loved the decor, loved the staff, loved the food!Came here for a Sunday roast and had an amazing beef roast. It was delicious. My only criticism was that the Yorkshire puddings were overdone, but everything else was amazing. Would come again.

Lovely sunny lunch on the Barge. Relaxing pace, great drinks, Sunday Roast which was very good. Lamb was a little fatty but beef was great. They were happy to make a smaller portion for our daughter. Staff were simply excellent. Knowledgeable and friendly... especially Faith (one of the managerswho has now got a new best friend in my daughter. We will be back for the a la carte menu.

Very cute and unique, fits in the wick vibe and is a nice place to chill. People go there to read a book, have a beer or whatever, very simple menu. Theres also an outside garden-like place across the tow path, looks chilled. This place has toilet facilities, staff is normal so nothing to write home about on those aspects.The prices are over the top so I feel a bit robbed. Might be the inflation but their prices didnt sound right for a rusty old boat. Competing with the poshest places in london in the prices only, the hypocrisy..For a one off it was ok, not my regular place.

Great venue, delicious menu including plant based options, ingredients from their own garden, warm welcoming staff and a beautiful fun location. Fraser holds it all together and makes time to connect; all the staff were great.

We enjoyed the Saturday set menu. The food was lovely and the staff super friendly. Its a memorable dining occasion, an excellent choice for a special anniversary or birthday. We ate mainly veggie and fish dishes, everything was well presented, looked pretty and tasted amazing. You can dine on the barge (below deck, on the deck, in the top deck dining room), the terrace or garden where they grow ingredients> Next door is the Milk Float and place to buy burgers. You can hire a canoe from Moo Canoes.

Great ambiance, had a lovely family lunch of burgers and drinks. We had a booth which was perfect with kids. Very trendy pop up, was v busy but great atmosphere. Food was delicious 😋

Visited end of last year and food was quite good. Returned again recently and whilst food was pleasant, it wasn’t amazing. The presentation, however, was lovely.The vegetarian options are priced the same as those containing meat or seafood. So, 2 x Sunday two course set menu, two lemonades and side of bread came to £85 which didn’t feel like value for money.If the price point was lower or the vege options more exciting this would probably be fine.

We were sat at the table across from the chef so had an incredible view of the kitchen as they made each dish. Each meal was perfection and such great portions. The have a set Sunday menu where you can select 2 or 3 courses. It was so quiet and intimate with only a few other people in the restaurant. The chef was so friendly and took time to speak with us.

Amazing. A group of us went for dinner for a friend’s birthday and it couldn’t have been better. The staff were outstanding and truly made the whole experience. Topped with a great location and fabulous food. Thank you for a wonderful night. ❤️

I came back here after last year and last year I enjoyed this place. Things have changed and I have downgraded by one star reasons being - the menu has limited options and the drinks are quite overpriced for what they are. Even though everything has gone up, it’s quite a drastic change. I think it’s if you’re seated at the garden Terrance? from table 1 to ? That’s where there’s less options for drinks. It’s a nice vibe and environment at times a little too loud to hear.

Most overpriced chicken Ive ever tried to eat. Made of thigh and overwhelmed with breading and cooked to a crisp. Beers are good but definitely not a food joint.

It’s the worse place ever I been for the all my life. Sorry but is true.The service is rubbish, the food is not nice also the portions are so small so when you get the food after 2 hour is not enough. Specially when you expect something bigger then one little peace and 2 tiny carrots. My kids been waiting for food 1.30 hours when the brought the food the roast potatoes was horrible and oily. It was my brother birthday and they just forgot his drink😱please don’t go there is waist of money guys!!!

This was my worst experience ever. June 26 was my sons birthday and we had reserved the restaurant in advance. When we arrived we had to wait a little while for the table on the deck to be free. We had two kids as well. The kids menu was the weirdest I have ever seen. Like cabbage steak and leeks. What kind of kid would eat that? We had to wait 1.5 hours for the main course. The children were very hungry and started crying because they wanted to eat. We asked several times to bring the food at least to the children quickly. After 1 hour and 45 minutes the kids got their food. The baked potatoes were so greasy and dried out that it was impossible to even cut them. We ended up asking for bread to be brought to the kids. I ordered a vegan dish with mushrooms and aged tofu. The tofu was one tiny piece about 2 cm dry and very overcooked and some mushrooms. The portion is miniature. The manager didnt even try to make excuses for such service. The birthday party was completely ruined. The room downstairs where the kitchen is smelled awful because someone threw up. I attached the photo of the kids meal and mine. The worst place in London!

Really really disappointed with the overall service and venue. The attitude of staff wasn’t on the ball, it’s like there here to socialise. The prices do not reflect either . I paid £45 for a bottle of wine and was served dirty plastic glasses both with lipstick on. £20 for a burger with a paper knife and folk.Lastly the pinnacle of the experience was the toilets, I have seen better toilets at a festival. No toilet paper the seats were disgusting and generally smelly, for 8pm looked liked not been checked all day.Really disappointed the reviews are the reason I picked here and what a shame I did. Waste of money.

Nice place, just by the canal and close to Hackney Wick Station.Staff attentive and service quick.You can order food and drinks to your table through the useful app. Food interesting and tasty. Prices reasonably.

Booked the gardens and was seated on a wobbly stool and a barrel. The area was small and dirty. We had booked in advance to get a nicer table. There were some other nicer tables but they have crammed in too much poor quality seating. For the price of food and drinks, to sit in a corner on a stool was not worth it. Sure it would have been lovely if they swapped it out for a bench or garden furniture. Shame as had been looking forward to go here for a long time!

We celebrated a small wedding on the raised terrace private area. It was just amazing. The team were super helpful and accommodating. The perfect way to round off our big day. Can highly recommend :-)

Tried the set menu dinner here for mine and my partners 5 year anniversary this evening but it was memorable for the wrong reasons. It took a weirdly long time for the waiting staff to take our food order and get us drinks despite being the 4/5th table in there and having a booking at 7.30pm. Starter was interesting and tasty, but the main took far too long to come out and the side we ordered with our main was 10-15 minutes late, by which time my main was cold. I had to send my main back and it took about 15 more minutes to get a fresh one, by which time my partner had finished his main. So we ate our main courses on our anniversary meal separately. When we finally were able to place our dessert order it (no joketook 40 minutes to arrive. We spent 3 hours in total at the restaurant, and watched the chefs start to clean down their stations way before our dessert was ready. Waiting staff were polite and possibly a bit embarrassed about the chef team’s service. They knocked drinks off the cost of our meal but didn’t actually ever speak to us about that. Honestly as someone who was a chef for 8 years I’m pretty embarrassed for them too.

Food was absolutely delicious! We had to order an extra menu cause we couldn’t get over that beef onglet! Soooo yummy! Service was great too. You have to wait quite a bit between one course and another but HEY, the view Is incredible and it’s so impressive what the chef is capable of doing in such a small kitchen. You will definitely not feel rushed to leave, which I really appreciate.Only improvement would be evo oil with the bread rather than rapeseed oil (and vinegar which is not mentioned anywhere on the menu), or at least to be given the option.Will be back.

Fantastic food, especially as a last minute booking on Easter Sunday. Brilliant breakfast in the terrace garden area. Between us we tried all the breakfast burgers and they were amazing!!

Barge East is amazing, staff is very friendly and would go the extra mile, even if they were very busy when we went.In particular, we were served by Eve and she was the very best!Loved the cocktails and the food, too.Highly recommended.

The ingredients are interesting. Each dish came with nice decorations. The taste was okay. The portion was small. I ordered fish. The fish skin was not crispy. A lot of big fish bones were in the middle of the fillet. The service was good. All staffs are nice and friendly.

Absolutely delicious hamburgers both chicken and jackfruit vegetarian! I love the panisses also in vegan version! Delicious late and hot chocolates and even nicer fast service and outdoor and indoor seating

A local gem! I hosted my 30th birthday in the canopy at Barge East and it was perfect.The venue, decor and setting was amazing, the food was delicious and so reasonably priced and the service was outstanding. Despite being a large group of 27 people, the whole evening was faultless and I cannot thank the staff enough for such an amazing evening.Fraiser was an absolute pleasure to meet, his service was excellent and he really went the extra mile all evening. Ian was also wonderful, he was so responsive in the lead up to the meal, which really helped to make the evening run so smoothly. Im sad I didnt get the names of everyone that served us but they were all wonderful and really helped to make the evening special - thank you.Id really recommend this venue to everyone and we will definitely be paying another visit soon!

My favorite restaurant in London with the beautiful river view and juicy lamb. I enjoy the best service and spend the wonderful time with my friends here. Lovely restaurant, very recommend.

We had the Saturday 3 step dinner. The starter was a scallop which I did not find great. The portion was quite small and it needed more seasoning. The mandarin was very mild so the citrus flavour was missing. The main was venison which had great flavour but again it was in the small side. The best dish of the meal was the sticky toffee pudding with milk ice cream. It was very good but the ice cream was a bit icy and not as creamy as it should have been.

Really nice location next to the all newly developed Queen Elizabeth Olympic park and hackney wick trendy bar zone across the canal. The people serving were all nice.However, the food was awful and so overpriced. Just get some normal, basic, pub food and it would be so much better. Instead of chips there was a kind of chickpea alternative that tasted like sawdust with some herbs on top. This obsession with fancy names, high prices and awful food has just got to stop! Other than that, the place was such a lovely location to be and drink.

I had dined at Barge East years ago and loved it. Mixed feelings about the recent experience: the Garden is a clever idea with well-trained staff, deserves a 5/5. Unfortunately, flatbreads are expensive and not memorable: £13 for a small undercooked flatbread with lukewarm lamb and patches of chilli sauce is a bit too much, I rate it 2/5. If you go, try their street food range instead

The restaurant is a gem. The food is very good and service friendly overall. I loved the pork dish; I was expecting that to be dry but it wasnt. It was beautifully-cooked and paired well with the sauce. The fish I ordered, on the other hand, was dry and overcooked. The oyster mushrooms were bland so a pointless addition to the plate. The chanterelles did work well with the dish. The alcoholic drink my partner ordered tasted like a non-alcoholic, herbal drink. Similarly, my espresso martini didnt live up to expectations. I would go back for a vegan or meat dish and non-alcoholic drinks as I feel that the restaurant would excel there.

A great little Dutch barge with an amazing butter milk chicken burger on the menu. Outdoor seating with a parasol so bring a jumper or jacket depending on weather. Food is highly recommended and the view is worth a journey. Great for drinks with mates!
