Barca - Italian restaurant in Luzern, Switzerland
Barca in Luzern
Description
Privilege
5 stars Vol-au-vent with veal meatballs
Decent place. The fondue is amazing, a must taste. Staying by the river is the way to go.
MoreFood was good, however, service was HORRIBLE. Took over 30+ minutes just to order then 90 minutes just to get 2 appetizers and 2 glasses of wine and another 30+ for the bill.
MoreExcellent food, friendly staff and great service.
Beautiful seating, and very kind staff. Really great dessert and drinks (which is all we tried!Gorgeous historic toilets from the 19th century!
MoreRUN! Never go to this place. Worst customer service ever, waiter/waitresses never look at us. We order a Fondue(melted cheese to sharewith some beer. The dish came with absurdly hard bread and hard potatoes, potatoes were raw by the way. When complaining about food, no manager was around and surprisingly no one knew when the manager was coming back(yeah right). All the staff complain saying they were only 3 of them. By the way, look all comments, its the same about service. At the end of the day, Next restaurant manager(sarahcame and apologized and discounted the fondue.
MoreBest experience weve had at a Luzern restaurant. Lovely table right by the river with superb views. Really nice attentive waiter. Excellent meal - we enjoyed the pan fried salmon. Strongly recommended.
MoreDishes very tasty with very lovely view ;)
Very very disrespectful. Manager was super rude and racist. We ordered the fondue and wanted to taste it before ordering more food. We also ordered drinks. We saw plenty of people ordering just drinks and leaving or ordering a single dish for a small table. The manager did not give basic eye contact, showed plenty of attitude and very directly asked us to pretty much leave after we were seated and ordered drinks. I understand your business is going well and you would like to make sure each table gives you enough value. But please understand that you are in the consumer service industry and I have never seen such disrespectful behaviour. Making a family of four, especially international tourists who have come to see your city and taste your food, leave in such a manner is completely unacceptable.I do not accuse anyone of being a racist for fun. We felt mistreated from the moment we entered and asked for a table. You can decide if this is simply how you treat all customers or if it was just us.
MoreThe manager was extremely rude. We were 4 people and ordered drinks. We never tried the fondue and so we ordered one fondue and wanted to try it out before we ordered more. She insisted that the others buy something else otherwise she will not be able to serve us. I suspect racism here.
MoreVery nice food, we tried some traditional dishes here. The staff was also very friendly and nice :)
MoreFood was decent, pricey. Good view of river.
Maria is the best excellent service and the best minestrone in Lucerne
Great service and great food!! Can’t wait to take family and friends here next time. The prices couldn’t be beat compared to their competitors in the area and all staff were tentative and very polite :The covered outdoor seating was also very nice with the rainy weather .
MoreVery, very disappointed and insulted by a rude male service staff named Kai. No customer deserves to be treated like that.1We came to try the fondue as a pre-dinner snack, and we had asked for Tap water. When the bill came, we were charged CHF 3.50 for 2 glasses of water and Kai said “THIS IS NORMAL, DON’t YOU KNOW?” Is that really normal? We did not dispute and accepted it.2During payment, Kai loudly asked “Tips for service??” Honestly, with his crude tone and poor personal hygiene (he was having a runny nose and spits as he speaks- we did not feel serviced, but while we were considering, he repeated loudly again “TIPS FOR SERVICE”? We understand tipping is optional and would tip appropriately, but this was unacceptable. When I said we might come by again tomorrow for a full meal with tips, he smirked, mimicked my laughter in a sarcastic, MOCKING manner and threw our credit card back on the table after payment was done. That was extremely rude and uncalled for.Regardless of the value of the meal or eventual tipping, a truly hospitable dining establishment takes utmost care and pride towards every customer. This experience really left a bitter taste in our mouth, and our hearts. There were similar comments about poor staff behaviour below and I wonder if it is the same staff - if not, this is concerning for Barca (although there was a friendlier male crew with curly hair). The fondue was priced at CHF 31, not the most affordable but it was reasonable as compared to its neighbours along this stretch.Note; our friends came by 2 days ago for the fondue as well, and were NOT charged for water. Some staff’s integrity and attitude remains questionable.
MoreSimple cheese fondue served with bread and potatoes, 31CHF per serving. With breath taking views of the river and chapel bridge. Server was fast and friendly.
MoreWe happen to stop here due to the rain and it was the best stop we’ve had in Lucerne. The carrot soup was out of this world and the carbonara on the lunch menu was amazing! Our waiter Osman was incredible and I can speak for an English which is super helpful. They have blankets here for which I was grateful. Would definitely recommend spending time here!
MoreNice view of the river, the food is good but the staff seems uninterested in their jobs or customer. The waitress barely acknowledged me or made efforts to make me feel welcome. Maybe it was not her day, but it diluted the Luzern dining experience.
Morenice restaurant beside the river. tried the corden bleu. enjoyed the food n service.
MoreFood is okay. Staff and service quality is intorelable. The waiter rolled his eyes and sighed at us several times starting from the time he took our order. When he took away our beers, he poured the beer in our glass and spilled one of the beer on the table. He didnt even apologize. The worst part is when we request for the bill, he said the price doesnt include service charge and that we should give him tips, suggesting a customary 10%. When we were deciding, he thought we dont understand what he means and said we should add on tips because we are dining at the restaurant and not eating at the kiosk. So rude and unacceptable.I have never been treated as badly like this in any RESTAURANT before and this is the first time I was requested a tips when dining in Europe.I believe a decent restaurant should put more attention in hiring and training their staff to make sure that they have right attitude and can perform sufficient level of service.Do not recommend and will not come back.
MoreIt is located along the water. I enjoyed the food and they have relatively reasonable price compared to other restaurants near thereIn general, it is busy area, but it was also not difficult to find a table, considering the current situation in Swiss. it might be very difficult once Lucern welcomes more tourists in the city.
MoreGreat location with fantastic views of the Kapellbrücke. Staff very kind. We ordered some tarte flambée and they were ok.
MoreDelicious homemade cake with cappuccino. Amazing view and nice atmosphere!
Location was good spectator view. But the food was so so for the price you pay the food was poor. Also the food had the cooks hair in which turned me off even more. A big disappointment! My recondition would be eat elsewhere at one of the many other restaurants next to it.
MorePolite staff and great view!
Very friendly waiters and beautiful location on the shore of Reuss River. The selection of food doesnt exceed average although its quality is good. Apparently the main target are foreign customers who arent familiar with local or at least European dishes.
MoreGreat location by the river in the old town. Lovely food and our server Mariia was excellent. Would return!
MoreThe place is very pretty and well located, the staff was also kind and available. Loved the pasta with zucchini and lime sauce, it was incredible, and especially combined with wine. The overall experience was very pleasing.Totally recommend!💖
MoreSuper friendly staff, outstanding fondue and delicious wine. Cannot better. Thanks for the experience 🌷😍
MoreOrdered the raclette cheese plate and it was pretty tasty. Would eat more cheese.
MoreWell placed, good staff but really astonished about poor quality of drinks and dessert. We had to pay chf 12.5 for an industrial waffle, filled in with sugar, amazing price for such a disgusting food, really not at the class of the place and what we can expect for the price and this nice Switzerland location! We complain and the chief staff was unable to do any gesture of goodwill. They told us they are ripping off tourists with this waffle and price for years! It is time to stop it... I cannot say anything about the rest of the food but we also had a swiss warm chocolate where the milk was not tasty as it should be. NOT at the level of our experience in Switzerland, so be cautious with this location. The restaurant next to it seems at another level but no place was available, it is a sign... Enjoy Luzern
MoreWe went for a walk in Luzern and decided to have lunch in a wonderful place by the lake - LA BARCA restaurant - with a spectacular atmosphere and spectacular service, we were served by the service manager who was extremely friendly and professional and advised us on a great wine.We highly recommend this restaurant !!!Ricardo Gonçalves
MoreAverage restaurant with not so great ambience and absolutely rude customer service. Extremely overhyped!!!
MoreWe loved the cheese fondues, sausages were excellent. The cafe along the river in the center of Lucern, Switzerland. Its old building is so beautiful. The cafe designs very messy but on purpose. Nice embience!
MoreGreat place to have lunch next to the water and enjoy the beauty of Lucerne
Nice place to Lunch!! With awesome Staff!!! 💪💪💪👌
Sat outside. Fondue only avail outside. Little could but the provided blankets and space heaters helped. Sat with a nice view for lunch. Service was polite and good English speaking... small bathrooms available inside. Inside seating area is very small.
MoreReally lovely location, even in the cold weather. We sat outside to eat, plenty of blankets and warm throws for the chairs, plus the staff kindly showed us to a nice warm seat under the heater. Food was delicious. Google says the menu is Mediterranean but there were a lot of lovely Swiss options - my partner had a Rosti with raclette and meat and I had a vol-au-vent with veal and mushrooms in cream sauce. Both were absolutely delicious! Would definitely recommend 😊
MoreThe place has a great location, most of the personnel is friendly; unfortunately as a common denominator in Switzerland, service is not the quickest, feels understaffed, having to wait for long for everything.
MoreLa Barca was a wonderful restaurant situated in Unter Der Egg in Lucerne. Hidden literally underneath the arches, it had a comprehensive menu. The service was great and it was especially lovely to be able to watch the river go by and all the people coming and going as you sit and eat and drink out of the rain...for it did rain whilst we were there in Lucerne that week...quite a lot ! The staff were very helpful with me especially as I use a mobility scooter, they moved it out of everyones way and put it safely where I could see it, and moved it and brought it back to my table when I was ready to leave. They were polite and friendly and it all made for a very happy meal Unter Der Egg.
MoreIt was nice choice for our family on a very hot sunny day to find that café. You can choose to sit by the river or in the shade under massive old building above you.Friendly staff and tasty milkshakes.
MoreGreat food and amazing serviceI have allergies and they were so accommodating
It had been rainy all day, but in a break from the rain, we headed out to find something to eat. We had walked by here previously and had seen that they had a "happy hour" menu. Since we were not that hungry, that seemed like a great idea. After the rain, it had gotten chilly, but this place is prepared for that. We wanted to sit outside (under the arches to see the river), so we needed something warmer to sit still. They had blankets and fur coats! It was so much fun and made us feel like we were in Switzerland for sure. We had wine and flatbread pizza and were very happy with the whole experience!
MoreVery nice staff arranged riverside seats for my family, and he gave the surprise to my daughter to let her draw. I couldn’t imagine we could enjoy the delicious dinner with great view and best service in Luzern. You must come to experience it.
MoreGreat food, very friendly staff, and an amazing setting. A wonderful place to experience a cheese fondue and a salad platter in Lucerne!
MoreGreat food, excellent service, lovely view. Not a cheap place but reasonably priced as with most Swiss restaurants. Located beside the river with some good views so you get what you paid for. Staff were friendly and attentive. Ordered the corn soup as a starter, the veal with rice as the main and finished with a “Denmark” which is a vanilla and chocolate ice cream sundae. All was fantastic. They have some good beers here too. Outside seating area is furnished with fur covers and blankets you can still enjoy the view in colder temperatures. Would return.
MoreThey didnt accept a credit card because, as they said, our bill was less than 20 franks (this is very strange, as everywhere we went in Switzerland they accepted a credit card, even if we had to pay only 2 CHF). As we didnt have any francs, we paid in euros, and they kept 5 euros more than the price written on the receipt, because, as they said, they are not a...bank, and we had to pay more (something like commissionbecause the restaurant is... near the river. No comment.
MoreI had lunch here. Staffs were friendly but food was not bad but all too salty. The worst thing is, in the hall where I lunched, there were two middle aged pobably swiss couples. They very loudly spoke (almost like fighting each otherand hysterically laughed during my entire stay there. I suspected that especially the lady may have some kind of mental illness. Staffs did not do anything about them. Moreover, they briefly chatted with them!I had many travelling experiences across Europe, Japan and US. This kind of noisy attitude at dining place is not tolerable in anywhere in the World, I guess.
MoreIt is very pricey, as our dinner came out to over 90 francs (1 bottle of water + 2 main courses + 1 dessert). But, the food was delicious and the view, especially at night when all the lights are on, is amazing. I had the pork cordon bleu which I highly recommend. Our waitress was very, very nice and personable and spoke English fluently. Overall a great night here.
MoreNot cheap, but the great food and the view of the river made it worth it. I would definitely recommend trying the apple fritters for dessert! Our waitress was very friendly and spoke excellent English.
