Bar mleczny familijny - Polish restaurant in Warsaw, Poland
Recommended to me by a local, I enjoyed my experience here. Its a traditional, simple kind of eatery. The prices are fine and the atmosphere is quaint and authentic. Ill go back again next time I am in Warsaw.
A gem in Warsaw. Unique traditional food, as if your Polish grandma cooked at home.
Taste popular oldchool Polish cuisine from 70s and 80s. This is one of last bistros which had important role in polish dining back during Soviet era just like fast foods were in the west. With exception of serving much healthier, tasty, daily cooked dishes to millions of poles being on the daily run. A snag could be lack of English menu but try variety of meals, they cost pennies here vs. nearby restaurants and shops. A taste of past era of polish cooking spirit, you will be positively surprised. Bon apetit.
If you want to eat traditional polish food and spend very little money, this is the perfect place. Its obviously different than a normal restaurant but the food is delicious and definitely worth it. As a tourist I feel like I have to give 4 stars instead of 5 because theres no english translation for the food and nobody speaks english there, therefore the only way to understand anything is to use google translate and watch as the food comes out of the kitchen.
Nicest place to eat and jolt into nostalgia of Poland how it used to be 50 Yeats ago Must see and eat there
The food here is very cheap and tasty. The portions are also quite big. For around 4-6€ you can get a main dish, drink, soup and dessert. The service was also very fast even during the busiest lunch hour. You can pay by card and get a menu in English if you ask the cashier.
If you want to eat for small price - this is good place but be prepared that menu is only in Polish language! Price is 40 zl for 2 meals it is around 8 euros, which is pretty cheap, but food will not be for everyones taste. It is authentic home cuisine, so be prepared for babushka compot, cutlet with potatoes and salad. If you are waiting gourmet- this is not a place for you.4 stars for a bit dirty tables, and no English menu.
If you are looking for good polish food at a reasonable price then l would highly recomend eating here. The food was very very tasty!
Delicious soup!
I had to remind the Staff about my order. If not for that I would wait for the food forever
Great place for authentic, no frills, good value Polish food
The best money quality ratio. Perfect location in the city center
So cheap and tasty local food! A proper typical Milkbar in the middle of the city centre.
The food is cheap, that’s the only good thing. Pierogi were okay. Everything else was over salted.Do not recommend.
The prices are low, but this is the only one advantage. The staff is awful, very unpleasant. The dishes are dirty, there is no wc, sink. If you want to have bad mood- go here.
Nobody speaks English and it is so hard to know what you are ordering but the foods tastes really good. Im gonna add a photo of what I ordered...I have no idea about their names.
Quite cheap place to sit and have a meal in the historic part of the city, with a strong post soviet feel to the interior and service. Definitely not an atmospheric tourist attraction place at all. :But still, quite preserved (even if not on purposepart of history here.
Cheapest in Warsaw! Tastiest authentic home-cooked meals. Beware, its not a fancy place! During peak hours, it might resemble a factory cafeteria: people bring their Tupperware to buy food or sit down to eat quickly and go. However, if you are there when it is less busy, you can definitely relax, sit back, and enjoy a conversation with your friends or comfortably people-watch from a lace curtained window.
Low cost food for homeless people. I visited several Milk bars in Poland but this one was different. Borsc is a very low quality. Also you can meet some very strange people here. Not going to visit it again. Didnt feel safe.
Great deal if youre on a budget... 40 złoty (about $12for two full dinners. And the food is tasty, well prepared and down home authentically Polish... if a little safe/bland in its taste profile. Milk bars are an invention of the socialist state... but obviously a good one since they survived and flourish today.
True polish food with a real polish environment! Fair prices and fantastics flavors are what you will find here.
It is an ok place to eat if you are in Warsaw downtown and you do not want to spend a lot of money. They serve traditional Eastern European food such as pierogies, borsch and mushroom soup. Mostly attended by the local residents.Just be mindful if you are planning to go in the last hours before closure, the food might not be necessarily the freshest. It happened to us with the mushroom soup.
The food was ok, the price was really good, 15.5zt for my dish.
This is the place when I feed myself anytime when Im on the neighbourhood. Dear Polish Women, try to learn how to cook so tasty. I was there many times and I wasnt dissapointed yet.
This place is a great example, showing us how most of the cheap and affordable restaurants looked like, during the communism time in Poland. They were used mostly by students and working class. It is truly an extraordinary, return to the past experience, I would say strait into 1970s. First we have to pick our dish from the big menu placed on the wall. If there is no price next to the dish then it means that this dish is not available at this moment. Second step, we go to the service till and pay for our choice(dont bother asking to make some changes to the dishThird step is to go to the dish food out window. Now well have a chance to see how all food is prepared. Magical place really, only elves are missing. Everything is freshly cook everyday. Food Standard Agency is very strict in Poland so the place is safe to dine in.For the sake of an experience or if you are on a budget then you should visit this place. Youll get your calories and it wont cost you much. Food is OK and only OK, nothing breathtaking. You should try it at least once while visiting Warsaw. Service is rather curt and not really bovvered - just accept it and enjoy your trip to the past 😁
my favorite restaurant in Warsaw. the Real Polish family cooking, "bar mleczny" means milk bar (although some meat is now servedand is reminiscent of Communist times.Excellent tomato soup with either rice or noodles, cost: 1,10 euro.Pierogi ruskie (Russian dumplingswith potato and white cheese: excellent (2 euros).all the soups are wonderful.thanks for still being here and continue serving all this delicious food.If you dont speak Polish, ask for the English language menu at the "cashier"
it is a pleasure to walk through this parc.
This is the worst milk bar that I have visited in Poland. At first I overlooked the less inviting and hygienic look of the place, but then I got my breakfast and I was in shock. My eggs came out half cooked, with some whites still raw and see-through. It cant be that hard to cook eggs right. The place is very cheap, but so are the other, more reputable milk bars.
Traditional food for incredible prices!! If you want cheap polish cuisine in central Warzawa this location is the right place for you. Don’t expect a real restaurant with waiters and service as it’s more like a canteen with self service. An English menu is available at the counter where you have to order and pay your food first and pick it up at further counter.
The food looks and smells delicious and the prices seem decent. We never got to try any of it though because the staff did not serve us. Nobody spoke english and the sort of ignored us while We stood by the till for about 20 minutes while they kept serving other local customers. Was really excited for some authentic food :(
Amazing value and delicious home made food. Shame authentic places like this extinct. Plus for the location, a bit disappointed by getting borówki, when ordered jagody (it is a bit of a major difference), but its not a chain, so still much happier than in a restaurant.
Really delicious food. Traditional milk bar!
Authentic Polish cuisine in a authentic Polish atmosphere and building. Even all the ladies serving, are authentic Polish, with all their hospitality. The choice of Polish dishes is huge and diverse. We had 4 different dishes and all tasted very good. Of course, its a so called "milk bar" so the mobiliar is simple. Dont expect high standards, but the food ist good and the prices more than fair. We enjoyed it a lot!! Dont forget to leave TIP!!!
Bar Familijny serves traditional Polish dishes at at really affordable prices. Dumplings, soup and chicken cutlets amongst many other options. My bowl of 6 tasty meat dumplings cost 9 zloty (~£1.80). The clientele tends to be students and locals looking for good inexpensive food.
The place its ok and clean, the food isnt the best but its ok for the price.
A good meal for the price. Buy a Kotlet Schabowy set and youll get a salad, mashed potatoes and the pork chop. Fast delivery time, youll get your meal in about a minute. However, its difficult to understand the menu for foreigners
As a Warsaw native, I guarantee you this is the closest thing youll find to an authentic communist style milk bar. Ive eaten at plenty of milk bars because Im a fan of them. This place is NOT tourist friendly. They dont speak English and the menu is all in Polish. I ordered 3 items (pork cutlets, leniwe pierogi and tomato soupand it tastes exactly like how my nana used to cook. I will gladly eat at this place every day every meal for the rest of my life
This actually a very cool place to visit if you are in Warsaw and you are looking for a place to eat. These places "Bar mleczny" are amazing, because they serve home made food at a very cheap price (like everywhere, some of these places are not great).. but this one is. Great food, great price and good location. definitly coming there again.
Traditional Polish food at a Cheapest price. The food is okay and more suitable for a buget traveler like :)
One of my go-to milk bars in the center of Warsaw. Old school - PRL style. Its like stepping back into time. Its hard to believe that its still there considering that its surrounded by all sides by expensive touristy restaurants and cafes. Real authentic milk bar. And somehow lots of locals still eat there
Extremely dry and tough chicken cutlet. The potatoes and salad didn’t taste very fresh either. I’m not sure if it’s because I arrived 40 minutes before closing or perhaps I just got unlucky. The good thing about this place is that it’s cheap, central, quick, and you always know what to expect. There are better milk bars in Warsaw, though.
Perhaps unfair to judge, but this place is not for the faint of heart tourist, unless you read Polish.Fair enough. You order your food at a window, so need to know what you want before getting to the window. The only menu is in Polish, on the wall (so tricky to even point something out on it!and even with the help of Google Translate we were unable to decipher more than half the dishes in the 10 minutes we were there... Go with a polish friend or be prepared to sit for 15 minutes of translation with a dictionary to even come close to being ready to order.I would suggest that the establishment print out their menu in a couple of commonly spoken foreign languages, but only if they want the custom of tourists.I suspect they are doing just fine without us though, which would explain everything!
oldskool interior design, real polish food ,well prepared, big choice. very tasty and really cheap place at once. its busy there usually ,but waiting time is really short
Two meals plus soup and dessert for half the price of a bowl of soup in Iceland! The mushroom soup was delicious. The entire meal was really good. Five stars for the money!! If you cant read polish ask for a menu to be able to order. Enjoy!
It was a great experience for me. I already knew what I wanted before I entered the restaurant. I wanted some meat and veggies so I grabbed Golabki (a friend explained to me earlier later what it was). So I wrote that with the Polish word for potatoes and off I was. I paid 9 zl WITH A CARD (<3 and had 3 ppl in front of me so i didnt wait long. My food was warm and tasty. I manage to find a spot to sit and I couldnt be happier with my cheap delicious food. The place seemed renovated. It wasnt big but it was ok for the number of ppl who were inside. It was hot inside, but I was there for the food not the cool brise. Its true what other comments say, you wont get a smile and a "come back soon" but you are paying 9 zl for a full meal. Dont complain and eat your food. I didnt try speaking English to any of the ladies but I read some speak English.
This place is like a time machine that instantly brings you back 40 or 50 years to the long gone era of socialist Poland. So called milkbar, that used to serve traditional food for the working-class, now a cult place for locals and tourists on the budget. The food is simple, nothing fancy about, but nevertheless plentiful and tasty. Surprisingly five bucks will buy a proper two course meal and you will still get some change.Loved it.
If you are a tourist traveling on a low budget, then this is where you come for cheap food. Cheaper than most fast food franchises like Subway, KFC, Burger King etc
Place of cult- one of the last so-called milky bars. Dont be shocked when you find much more then milk foods :-), there most of Polish tradition dishes in very attractive prices... Delicious and afordable, nothing can beat the climate...Denfente must see place.
Absolutely authentic milk bar. Very price worthy, good food. The only downside is that you need someone to help you with the menu and order because its all in Polish.
If you want to experience Warsaw, visit this place. A great mix of people, from hip students to elderly people whove been coming here since it opened after the war. Very good prices for the location. Dont be surprised. Its not a fancy restaurant, just a old-school diner.
