Bar Harbor Ale House in Ketchikan

Way overpriced and massively under delivered. $19 for a (yes, ONE small potatowhich they called "sharing". In all fairness, it was supposed to come with pulled pork and bacon but I asked for none of that. No sides sauces delivered after asking for them, no check-in, no drink refills. A massive disappointment and Im sure you can do better anywhere in town.When I asked about the price, they said everyones raising rates in town and offered a free dessert which I declined. Better service and more realistic pricing would have been preferred. They take advantage of the tourists and its sad.

Loved the smoked meats, especially the reindeer sausage. And their mustard mashed BBQ sauce was amazing. Great place, great staff and excellent food.

Friendly staff, good location. Chicken dry as dirt. Pulled pork more like pulled pork fat. Brisket was awesome, was surprised that the brisket was almost as good as Texas brisket.

Wonderful beers! We had loaded potato peels that were fabulous. Right on dock 4.

What a wonderful experience. Nicole was a Friendly and helpful waitress. Had a great flight of local beer.

The service was a little slow and the food a little overcooked, even so, I enjoyed my meal here, especially the root beer!I would recommend without issue.

Free wifi for the cruise goers, service was great and hat to try some Alaskan beers!

First trip there was amazing, great service and food. Ordered the pick 2 meats with beans and mac. Smoked chicken was a full breast and wing section, and the brisket was really good.The 2nd visit back however was lacking very much. The waitress was kinda off putting, and arrogant. And not very friendly. Ended up having another server bring us our check and boxes just so we could get out of there. We asked our waitress to get that for us, but 15 min later she hadnt came back to our table, but did the other tables around us. They were not busy at all. Then ordered the same meal as previously, expecting the same results I had before. Instead of a breast I got a small leg and thigh piece and my gf got the breast and wing. When asked about it, I was shrugged off when there was plainly 3x the meat on 1 over the other. I like consistency and so far this place doesnt have it

Presentation of the food was good but the service was poor. Ribs were alright, Mac n cheese left a lot to be desired, but the salad was decent. We were pretty surprised when our waitress handed our bill (over $100before we even ate though… she didn’t even realize we hadn’t had our food yet. She also wouldn’t come by to process our credit card so we finally walked up to the front and asked someone else to take our money. Okay food and poor service. Good drink selection though. Was not a busy night tonight.

Nice drink selection, but the very expensive, yet mediocre, fish & chips left a lot to be desired.

Got our food and then the waitress disappeared. Never checked on us. Took 20 minutes after we were done eating to track down anyone to give us our bill. The food was good, but the service was lacking.

Good bar food nothing special, price reasonable location and view was fantastic.

This was a great stop not too far from the cruise port. Our server was excellent, the food was quality, and the drink choices were plentiful. Prices were reasonable, though expectedly higher than a restaurant in the lower 48. I would come back to this location again.

Had dinner here last night, food was good, not great but for Barbecue in KTN it is good. Hands down worst service Ive had in many years. The guy who served me was rude from the start. I always treat servers with respect and I did so from the time I sat down until I left. My food came in a timely manner and as I was dining solo was having a leisurely dinner enjoying my food while web surfing on my phone. Twice this guy asked to take my plate even though there was food on it and I was obviously still eating. I had ordered a second hard cider and when I had finished eating and set my plate at the end of the table he quickly grabbed it and brought my bill, as I was reaching for my wallet he turned and left, no big deal. Several minutes later he came back and took my card and another 5 minutes passed before bringing it back at which point he grabbed my quarter full glass of cider and scurried off. This was 1/2 hr before closing time, there were maybe 15 people in the whole place so it wasnt like he needed to turn the table. I rarely have seen such a rude person working in a service job and certainly not as a waiter, he should get out of the business because he is driving people away. In talking with friends they knew exactly who I was talking about and they wont be returning there either, which is sad because the food is good, good concept.

Solid ale house & restaurant right next to the piers in Ketchikan.Great selection of beers, with hard liquor available.Chowder was excellent - quite creamy.

Stopped in for a quick lunch as we had a tour to get to. Had their smoked salmon chowder. Very creamy with a lot of vegetables and served with a rustic bread. Unfortunately, there was very little smoked salmon. Had a good selection of adult beverages and indoor as well as outdoor seating.

The smoked meat sandwich, with a choice of meat was really good. Try the Apple Pie beer and the Honey Golden Ale, both excellent.

Stopped here simply for the name as I live an hour from Bar Harbor Maine. They also had local beers, which is what I was after. Grabbed an order of fried pickles to hold over till we were back on the ship. Hands down best fried pickles Ive ever had! I will come back to ketchickan just to try the rest of their menu! Servers were also laid back but friendly and efficient!

Food was poor $36 us for fish and chips which were sub par, fish tasted frozen, soda water tasted like bleach, would not recommend this place

Had high expectations for this top rated restaurant in Ketchikan but was grossly disappointed. It was only when my entire group’s food was delivered that our server informed me that my dish would take an additional 30 min. This was fine, I was given the option to choose something else; but I’m a patient person so what was another 30 min? At the 1 hour mark, after my friends’ plates had all been cleared, I was offered a free beverage and my food placed in a to-go box. At 1 hour and 20 min AFTER being told it would only be a 30 min wait, my “Smokey Mac” was finally delivered. The dish itself was less than desirable but was made exponentially worse by the 1 hour and 20 minute build up waiting for it. In addition, the 3 other people that I travelled with also were disappointed with their food including the reindeer sausage, brisket, and even the simple cheeseburger was messed up. I do not recommend this restaurant under any circumstance.

Good service today, last time I had great wine, and I had kangaroo meat!!! Was pretty tasty 😋 This time I found they have a very ample beer selection to choose from and I ordered there reindeer mac and cheese. Very large servings, could easily split one meal in half to save cash. Also think about getting a flight of beer so you can taste multiple great beers.

Appeared understaffed.... Food prices high for what you get.... The potato wedges was a loaded baked potato.... The beer was good...

I absolutely love bar harbor. The vibe, the food and the prices were all wonderful. The service is what made it though. There was a young lady waiting my table named Riley, and she was absolutely phenomenal! She filled me in on anything I wanted to know about the menu, recommended different things to do in downtown Ketchikan and was the epitome of service with a smile:next I’m in Ketchikan it will be my first stop!

Smoked salmon sandwich is wonderful. Large variety of draft beers from Alaska.

Excellent beer and food. The reindeer chili was outstanding.

Subpar service and when I received my Charcuterie Board there was mold on the lemon (which I moved and ignored.Then I found a moldy grape underneath all of my other food and that’s when I had to give up and stop eating. They took it off the bill, but that was all they did.

I know people love this place, but this is just a warning for you if you dont like the smoky flavor in everything. If thats your thing, awesome! If not, beware. Even the Bloody Mary tastes like it was made in a smokehouse. Had to go as far as to leave because I asked if I could have Chili instead of meat on the nachos. I figured for $19 nachos they could make a simple swap, but no. The waitress was super accommodating and able to take my comments in stride.

Cape Fox out did Cape Fox. Before I enjoyed Cape Fox Lodge restaurant, now my favorite place is Cape Fox owned and operated Bar Harbor Ale House. One of the best fine dining in Ketchikan.

So first off the food was good.The service however, was terrible. Took 20 mins for someone to come over to take our order and then another 15-20 minutes for find some one for our check. AND this was very slow business hours.

Stopped by for lunch, first time in Ketchikan.Right of the bat, the staff is great and very friendly. I got Shrimp and Halibut tacos in fried tortillas and local oysters. Oysters were awesome, tasted fresh and tabasco+vinegar added a nice balance to the kelp pickles. Now the tacos.... Once again compliments to the chef that came up with that idea, because those were awesome! Never seen anything like this! Nice and crunchy outside and had nice and juicy halibut on the inside, which went well with the salsa and lime! Definitely would visit again!

Service was okay. But the food was terrible. Smoked meat was dry and flavorless, the beans were from a can, mashed potatoes were instant mash, the bread is hard as a brick. And the prawns were left in shell (still with the vein), they were rubber and flavorless. I’m a Fisherman and know what prawns should taste like, these didn’t hit the spot. Even the beer I got was flat. The only thing edible was the onion rings. At 20+ dollars a plate, telling you to spend your money elsewhere would be an understatement. Let me save you some time and money, eat somewhere else in town!

The best service!!! Seriously our waiter from Alabama was awesome! Food was very good, excellent place to go.

Great food and good staff, love the barbecue...just disappointed that when we arrived 45 minutes before closing, they would not seat us since their kitchen was cleaning. We just wanted appetizers and a beer. So in the end, go an hour before closing if you want anything from the kitchen

First meal ever in Ketchikan, or the state of Alaska for that matter, recommended by my Airbnb hosts. The food was delicious, the service (Sarah Mprompt, and the portion very filling. I had the ale house burger with mac n cheese and lemonade (I do not drink, but heard nothing but good things from my Airbnb hosts about the alcoholic selection.)

Honestly the food was excellent and well worth the price, but the customer service was below par. Another table had complained to the manager that their server was terrible and they were well beyond upset. Our drinks were 25+ minutes to be paid, our order was forgotten, and took a really long time to reach us. 2 other separate tables that came in after us got their food before us. I understand things get busy, but this was an extremely long time just for a burger and some chicken.

Excellent food & great beer. The Pick 3 option for lunch was a good choice. It came with 4 dipping sauces on the side. The pulled pork & the smoked ribs were a little on the dry side.

Good food, great location. Nice kids meal got fruit to go with it. Large selection of beer. Pick 3 meat platter was very large, worked great for two people.

First time eating at Bar Harbor Ale House. It was a wonderful experience. Perfect portions of Dungeness Crab, fully loaded (realsmashed potatoes, two generous sized smoked pork chops on a bed of applesauce and a pickled salad. Not to mention the friendly staff, clean and fun atmosphere. Plus no contact delivery and curbside pickup. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Enjoyed the atmosphere in the off season! Location is very nice next to the water. The staff was wonderful and the food fresh and delicious!

The halibut fish tacos were good. You can get them blackened if you ask, even though it is not listed on the menu that way. The clam chowder was also good.
