County Hall Building, The Queen's Walk, Lambeth, London SE1 7PB, Lima
High-ceilinged Chinese restaurant in County Hall with river views, serving imperial Beijing cuisine.
My waitress was odd. I think she was from Poland or some Eastern European country. And she continued to watch me like a hawk. I mean as she poured my drink her eyes were set on me and not the task at hand. Creeped me out. The food was okay, I thought maybe it was because I am used to American Chinese, but no we have an larger Asian population more with authentic food and this was not the same. The atmosphere was nice, especially being next to the Eye and all.
Not good enough both quality and ambience. It is not inclusive restaurant so 🤷
Delicious food, great view of Westminster, service was a slight let down, a tad slow considering how quiet the restaurant is; also gave us the wrong order but insisted it was right - we didnt kick up a fuss. The servers need more training to what each dish is. And please check with the kitchen first before insisting your customers are wrong.
Visited here at lunchtime on 17 December. The restaurant is situated between the London Eye and The Houses of Parliament in what must be one of Europes busiest tourist areas. A Chinese buffet lunch overlooking the river sounded great but it was anything but...The food was cool, not luke warm but actually cool! The hot plates looked 30 years old and nothing was fresh. A lot of the main courses looked dried up and were pretty tasteless. There was no soup on the buffet and this couldnt be ordered separately. You had to pay on arrival and then be given a ticket to exchange for your drinks at the bar.Service non-existent, food terrible. An awful experience.
Nice setting and reasonably priced but food was average. Not bad by any means but just average. Quite a limited selection available and very slow to replace empty dishes and it wasnt a busy period. Noodles were the only hot dish and the rest was like warm at best. Soft drinks served in a can at £1.90! I know its central London but thats a joke. Toilets were rank!Great view across the river from our table though!
Very little choice for a buffet. The only food that was warm (not even hotwere the noodles. Everything else was cold and to add tasteless. Customer service non existent. Table was wobbly so had to hold it down with my feet. Toilet absolutely disgusting with someone’s number 2 still floating. For a place right in the heart of London is appalling. Don’t recommend whatsoever. The wasn’t a single good thing about this place. And paid for soft drinks - served in a CAN? Might as well have a take away, at least it has a taste, it’s piping hot and you get to worth of your money spent.
Superb food, excellent service. In all seriousness the best Chinese food Ive ever had. Do not miss a chance to dine at Bao Fa Garden.
Everything we ordered was excellent and the location is great. It is quite pricy but the portions are generous and so you dont need to order as much as you think. We liked the Sichuan food in particular
Being a Chinese from Hong Kong, do have a higher bar. But it is actually not bad in general. Dim Sum can be better but fried noodles was A class. Price is not unreasonable at all. Place is spacious and the staff were helpful. It is just right next to London Dungeon and can see the Westminster Bridge. Good spot .
Chinese themed decor as you would expect overlooking towards Bigben. Food is exceptional
Food was delicious and quite authentic. Service was attentive, price was reasonable considering the location. Not sure why the business was quiet. It deserves more customers.
Who would have thought my favorite Chinese dining experience would be in London? Alan was beyond exceptional for his great customer service as well as his food selections. Absolutely the best way to end our London trip. This is a must when visiting London!
Best Chinese food Weve ever had. The flavours were amazing. Very friendly staff and very professional. Ordered a Pinapple juice that didnt taste right and they took it back no problems at all. Would recommend to anyone. Price is a little bit expensive but you pay for what you get and would happily eat here again.
Excellent food, reasonable price, great location with good river view. Staff are very friendly, good service. Been there for lunch and dinner and everything taste yummy. If you love Asian food, this is a must go restaurant. You will never regret:)
Lovely decor and great location near the London eye. Food is pricey but the quality was there. Great customer service and fast too! I enjoyed the food here and they overall had a traditional Chinese fine dining atmosphere.
We ordered the set lunch for two, reasonable price with very delicious starters and soup, chicken and beef are nice as well. Plus it has a very decent view of Big Ben.
Fantastic food and fantastic service.I took my girlfriend and her family here for her masters graduation celebration. Was made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much for the staff. Outstanding view over the Thames and great food.Alan, the manager, is a top guy and provided exceptional customer service. Will definitely be going back.
Hidden gem of a Chinese restaurant in central London near the eye. Great food and the Manager had a great sense of humour and understanding to our needs, gluten free, vegetarian and halal. Picked great dishes for us. Walk from a busy path to a extraordinary court yard. 😃
I went to the resturant with my boss, who is in wheelchair, although there is no direct wheelchair access to the resturant. We were personally escorted by their staff from the main entrance of county hall and taken to the restaurant. Food was amazing and authentic. Excellent service. Will definitely go there again.
Pretty good. Fantastic views to Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and the Thames. Good food and service at reasonable prices for central London. Lots of Chinese diners so thats a good sign for a Chinese restaurant.
Only reason why Im giving this restaurant a 4 star is that its a little over priced because of the location and because I dont like sweet and sour chicken, but my friend order it, I tasted it and its the best Ive ever had. The staff were very friendly. I was sat promptly for a walk in maybe its because its a Tuesday night but it was still quite busy. If you want a seat with the best view by the window of suggest you make a reservation. I ordered the shredded pork sauteed in garlic sauce apparently its spicy but I didnt shed a tear or sniffle even though my tolerance is low. Was a bit salty for my taste buds (I dont like saltit went perfectly with the egg fried rice so the saltiness balanced out nicely. I will definitely visit again.
so fantastic view! Enjoy the yummy food here with my colleagues!Good!
Really enjoyed our evening here while visiting London. Stylish interior, excellent service. The views are amazing! You can see famous Big Ben from the window right across the Thames. Delicious well-cooked food, nice wine list.
Food and atmosphere is good but the service is ok.... a bit pricy as it is located in the tourists attractions.
Very good taste , all the food and soup very delicious .I am asian and very picky of the taste of food and this place the food taste is perfect .
I love Chinese food... I like to cook Chinese food myself but this is definitely the best Chinese food Ive ever had. Fresh ingredients and wonderful taste. Even the egg fried rice was to die for. Everything we had was delicious. I want to come back soon. Congratulations to all the staff especially Jonathan our waiter who was very kind and helpfull
Good selection of regional Chinese cuisine, especially Sichuan dishes with spectacular views over the River Thames, Big Ben and Houses of Parliament. The main dining room is through the bar with views of the River and the London Eye. There was a nice buzz in the dining room with groups of Chinese and European tourists, and a few tables of local customers. It was a little disconcerting when we first arrived as the bar was a little deserted but once we were in the bar, we were taken through to a spectacular oak panneled dining room. I know this oinds a little clichėd but this really is one of the best hidden gems central London.
We arrived after theatre, at 10:00. Despite their site and Google saying they are open till 11:00, the waitress indicated they were closing, but then asked the chef if it was okay and he said yes. There were still several parties in the restaurant at the time. She went to seat us at table with no view, when there was a table right next to it with a window looking out onto the Thames. I asked if we could sit there instead and she simply replied that it needed to be cleared. Okay so … clear it? It hardly had anything on it as it was, and you have a customer asking you to do your job, but she was not interested. So we sat and waited, and waited, and waited … with not so much as a glass of water offered to us. I suspect we sat for 15 minutes before anyone came to offer us a drink. We only wanted water, but even that took two requests. Dinner arrived in decent time and the food was very good but by the time we were done, the place was down to two parties — both finished — and theyd turned the music off. Clearly they wanted us gone. However, despite at least three staff kicking around, clearing tables … and one guy on his phone … we finally had to ask for the bill. The guy we asked promptly went back to the computer/cash and … got on his phone again. Around us, the other two were setting up tables, yet there we sat. We finally got the bill and sat more waiting for someone to take our money, but finally gave up and went to pay ourselves. I havent run into such indifferent service in a long time. Would not recommend.
Visited this restaurant with some colleagues, waiter was very polite but we had received a number of incorrect orders and had to wait The. Longest. Time for service. Food was fine but average. I wont be going back when there are so many other options so close.
The absolute worst restaurant I have been to in London. We asked to see the menu, server wouldn’t because we asked for dumplings and he said there’s only 3 options. Brought us buns instead of dumplings, refused to take it back. That was probably the worst buns I’ve had in my entire life. After that we just wanted our check and to get the hell out of there took about 15 minutes to get our check and pay even when there was no one at the restaurant. You are an idiot if you go to this restaurant
Fantastic experience, both the decor and views were stunning. Coupled with a fantastic menu selection and tasty food this is a must if youre in the area!
This is amazing!I lived in Sichuan for 3 years, and I really miss authentic food from there. I am so happy for finding this place. I was told that I was choosing the food that only chinese usually order, and had some good chats and great service from the staff and manager.Ended up going twice in a week!Try the Sichuan spicy dishes!
The food is brilliant and tasty, the view is nice, and even better in late evenings.
Food was good but portions were a bit small, so we wanted to order a few more dishes. However, the waitress told us not to order any more because the kitchen was too busy?! Very strange experience...
Be very very careful if youre vegetarian. Had the tofu and sweet corn soup which had chicken in it. & my friend asked about a vegetable dish with oyster sauce which had a v for vegetarian next to it, only to be told it was real oyster sauce! I also watched a waiter walk down half the restaurant coughing without covering his mouth - disgusting in a restaurant.
Great new menu. Authentic Chinese with views of Westminster Palace in a formal setting. Good service. Will be becoming a regular...
This is easily one of the best Chinese restaurants in London. The food is very authentic and the restuant has a very elegant environment. The view from the restuant is spectacular. It is right beside Thames opposite the palaces of Westminster and Western ingested bridge. The only drawback is that it is quite expensive. But it is worth the money.
Despite being expensive they put hair in my smallest ever portion of hot and sour soup. In order to not ruin a lunch I agreed for a replacement. In the bill they did count my soup twice! However they have good window view
Location is perfect. We ordered from their Chinese menu (they also have an English one). Excellent food, flavorful and very tastefully arranged, almost artistic. Staff was very polite and well groomed, but also very quiet and solemn... too quiet.
The place was empty when we first walked it so we thought it might be because of the food. Not the case. The pan fried ginger chicken was the best chicken I have ever had. The pepercorn beef that my wife ordered was exceptional as well. The staff was friendly and courteous and the restaurant was clean and elegantly decorated. All in all, a great experience.
This place only gets that third star because the food was good. We went in later in the day, not sure if all the less personable staff get put on night crew to save the larger flow of day customers. We waited at our table twenty minutes before our order was taken (the food came out in just ten, clearly the kitchen workers knew what they were doing). The waiter insisted on pouring our tea, even though it hadnt had time to steep, so we poured out hot water back in the tea pot, but he just came right back over and filled our teacups with unsteaped tea again (this was more amusing than bad service). We asked for tap water and got charged £3.50 for a bottle of "still" mountain water; I know thats a thing in the U.K., but they serve tap water, we saw the pitchers. Anyway, it was an odd experience and I can only hope they do better during the daylight hours.
Service was extremely slow. Service brought the wrong soup with seafood which guest was allergic to. Completely forgot to bring a whole order (still decided to charge for service). Food was extremely bland and not worth the price. Ive tasted better Chinese out of a fast food restaurant. Only redeemable quality about this restaurant is the view and atmosphere.
A fabulous setting in the centre of London with stunning views of Westminster, especially in the evening! The catering and hospitality staff at Bao Fa Garden do a super job and make sure youre taken care of. Shout out to Sue who is particularly helpful! The quality of the food and wine itself is fantastic. Id definitely recommend Bao Fa Garden as a place to take your significant other for a fantastic dinner!
I would give it 0 stars if i could. This is constructive criticism. Firstly, the staff. They were very rude and didnt offer me the menu, but just dropped / threw it at me (sorry my English is bad). The waiter couldnt see, he tripped and spilled all the drink i ordered on me. Instead of apologizing and offering me tissue, he laughed at me. I was then served about 43 minutes later. The service was horrible and you could see that the cutlery was dirty (Had stains). The food was taste like the Sugar,Honey,Ice,Tea (Read the capital letters). My dead Nan who used to cook boiled cabbage and occasionally and accidentally would sneeze on the food, had a diseased cat that could cook better than that. I threw up after eating the food in the restaurant, and they wanted to charge me for it. Appalling! I then overheard the chef making inappropriate sounds in the kitchen, and as I looked through the glass, I saw him busting a nut in the mayonnaise.
Actually it has the good views for customers when your table near the window. It is good to enjoy the night view of Big Ben and Thomas Rivers. But the service is really bad, and food is very disappointed to me. Beijing roast duck is their signature dish but it taste just not so bad. It may lower the average level and not worth its price. One of our dish is beef and it make us disgusting, we all guess they use some spoiled beef to make this. We will never come this restaurant again.
As others have said, the views here are great if you have a window seat. We had to repeat our drinks order around three times before we were confident she had recorded it properly. This made us apprehensive as my son has a nut and dairy allergy so we were not sure we would trust her. We shouldnt have worried, the food waiter was knowledgeable about the ingredients used. True he didnt smile, but we felt we could trust him. The menu wasnt typical Chinese menu although many favourites are there. Thus we tried to pick things we hadnt had before. We thoroughly enjoyed the food although someone had a heavy hand with the MSG in the soup - please, using this stuff really isnt necessary. We can report we didnt see any mice. We paid the the included service, but no more.
Fantastic views of the houses of parliament and "big Ben". Nice venue and decor inside. So at this point I can say I was happy. However, the food was really disappointing. I like salty food, but all three main courses dishes that we ordered were far too salty! So much so that I didnt even ask for a doggy bag to take home the left overs.Staff were fine not overly helpful but provided the basic level of service. Everything we asked for came promptly. There was several items on the menu that werent available.... Chicken wings and squid. I would have expected that there wouldnt be a shortage of chicken wings, but apparently there was....
Fantastic food and service. The food was fresh, tasty and expertly served. We went with a 4 year old and the staff did everything they could to make us feel welcome and catered for our every need. The food was plentiful and of a high quality . Would recommend this restaurant without reservation
Lovely decorations and a great view of London. The customer service is good, however my food was cold and there was nothing fantastic about the flavours. It all honesty, its just regular Chinese food that you could buy at any take-away restaurant for a lot cheaper. The food was heavily overpriced for what it was. Overall the food is nothing fantastic, so its not really worth a visit.
