Banteay Srei, Cambodia, Sisophon
Small educational butterfly center breeding & hatching insects & offering guided tours.
$6 entrance fee and a guide to tell you about the life cycle of the butterflys. Then you can have as long as you want to wander the garden and look at all the butterflys. Worth a look.
This is a great stop between temples or make it a morning out of town and combine with Land Mine Museum 5 minutes up the road.We had a wonderful tour with a very knowledgeable and friendly guide who spoke English very well. Its a small complex so tour was only about 30min or so, and we learnt a lot about butterfly we didnt know. Some wonder large colours on display and lots of info about all the stages of life.Highly recommended. We rang to confirm they were open as it was a holiday but pre booking not required but hopefully theyll be too busy soon and you will have to pre arrange tour with guide.
Its a good place to explore each stage of batterfly life cycle.
Loads of butterflies, caterpillars and cocoons. They provided a tour guide for free who was really knowledgeable. Would recommend.
I visited this place on rainy day and I got offer to pay afterwards depending on how much I enjoyed it. Given the rain some butterflies were hiding but many of them were still flying around doing their business. I was able to take nice pictures of some and garden looked beautiful even wet. Lecture regarding life of butterflies and how they breed them was interesting and educative.
Recommended! Butterfly center allows you to appreciate the rich diversity of local butterflies and their life cycle. Guide was very passionate, knowledgeable and proficient in English. With few tourists since covid, this place is worth a visit.
Due to covid, it is closed.please contact them before you go
Trade here has been decimated due to covid so not running at full capacity. That said, our guide was wonderful, obviously passionate about butterflys and was very knowledgeable. We were treated to a full tour, including the breeding areas and learnt lots about the butterfly life cycle, breeding and feeding. If you find yourself in Siem Reap, do make a visit, its worth the short tuk tuk ride.
a must visit for nature lovers. off the beaten path, a hidden treasure on the cambodia itinerary.
Our trip to this Butterfly Center was a great experience! We stopped by after the landmine museum, and the exhibit exceeded our expectations and was the high point of our day! The experience was more informative and hands-on than we anticipated--we got to see many different breeds of caterpillars and butterflies, and we even got to assist in the process of helping place the cocoons on sticks! Our guide, Phem, was so knowledgeable about the butterfly lifecycles and was able to answer all of our questions. Beyond the information and knowledge he shared about the butterflies and ecosystems, he was kind, easy-going, and made our trip to the butterfly farm very fun!I highly recommend you check out this butterfly center if you are in Siem Reap. :)
I took my 4 year old daughter today and we had a wonderful visit! The reception area was locked up so at first we thought it was closed but locals pointed to the garden behind where we found a terrific guide. He showed us all life stages of the butterfly including where they care for eggs, cocoons and caterpillars and we learned a lot about conservation efforts. It was a magical experience to see so many varieties thriving in the growth stages and fluttering around throughout the garden enclosures and freely. Would highly recommend! Maybe call first to make sure there is someone there to open up (regardless of website opening hoursor persevere until you find someone as we did. A peaceful, enlightening experience. Well worth it!
Very beautiful, but abandoned. The doors have been left open for you to wander and there are still butterflies, but holes have been cut in the nets and there is no formal centre anymore.
We went there in the morning on weekend and there was no body on stand by. We looked around and decided to leave. It’s a small place with beautiful garden and a great place for children to explore abs discover how butterflies live and eats!!
Place is totally unkept during Covid 19. Compared to Butterfly Paradise, this one is somewhat pathetic. It is poorly laid out and the owner is super frugal. There is a lack of parking and is located near a residential area.
A very good place to bring kids and they did enjoyed their visiting.
Small but nice green and luxuriant center. Some butterfly but depend on the period.
Free entrance for allSmall but interesting placeMany active butterflies
Very good guided tour included in the ticket price. Visit takes about an hour. Lots of butterflies so a good opportunity to take pictures. Went in the afternoon when there are supposedly fewer to see but still plenty.
Lovely place close to Siem Reap. We got a guide who explained us everything needed. The restaurant was rather average. The centre is small but nice.
Be sure to visit in the morning as the butterflies are more active before noon. The garden itself is very nice and full of flowers. The guide shows you the lifecycle of butterflies, all stages clearly explained. At time time of visit we only saw like 7-8 different species but very exciting ones, some huge as an adults palm some intricately coloured. Combine the travel with Banta Srey Temple!
Disappointing. I took the kids there as I thought it would be a nice break from temple viewing for them but to be honest it wasnt worth the 45 minute tuk tuk ride to get there and definitely not worth the entrance price. ($6 adults, $3 children. The place was very, very small with a limited number of butterflies on display and the visit is finished very quickly. The staff were nice and pleasant but I wouldnt go out of my way to go there.
A small conservation effort that is very people-intensive and just taking shape. The butterfly center houses a few local species, but puts a lot of focus on the painstaking conservation behind maintaining growth in butterfly numbers despite the harsh climate. The tour is a must-do, especially to the structure at the end which is the hub of all activity, monitoring and aiding the species along their life cycle. Quite an eye-opener and a fun experience!
It was $6 to get in. Came with a little tour. There were only 3 or 4 different butterflies flying around but they were beautiful and there were a bunch of them. The garden was pretty also.
Good to see what theyre doing here but was a bit disorganised. The free guide never arrived. We walked around the area for a while and saw some nice butterflies and left. Would have liked to understand a bit more.
Very well run and lovely to see dont visit in a hurry take your time
The Butterfly Center is a beautiful place. In the entrance fee is a guide included. He will show you what they are doing there and explain all stadiums of developing of a butterfly. Very interesting! After that you get all the time you need by your self to get around and make picture of the beautiful butterflies. If you like there is a little bar inside where you can recover.
Very kind and competent personel will guide you in the little, beautiful garden hosting the butterfly. 5$ per person. Better in the morning, due to butterflies habits. Avoid rainy afternoons.
The place is smaller than what I thought but a very education visit with a guided tour. A nice quick stop on the way to Banteay Srey if you have the spare time.
A must see for every nature and insects lover! We enjoyed very much explanations but most of all the encounter with these splendid animals in all stages of their lifes. If you go around noon or 13.00 you could have the whole garden to yourself.
Very good explanation of the butterfly life cycle and their environmental needs. They show you all the stages and you can literally see how a butterfly gets to fly for the first time out of their hatching cage. Add to that many different butterflies you can observe and you no doubt will have a great experience worth stopping by during your visit in that part of Cambodia. We also were able to see several specimens of stick insect, really impressive.
With such an overwhelming number of phenomenal things to do in siem reap this small outpost is completely underwhelming and a wasted journey given how far away it is. Perfect for butterfly experts but you wont see much. Extra star for the super friendly, helpful and enthusiastic guide. ☆
Quite a small but interesting venue. The entry fee includes a tour with a guide who will show and tell about the work the center does with collecting butterfly eggs and letting them hatch. Quite educational for kids and adults and a nice way to contribute to the locals doing the work: a win-win.
It is quite a distance from Siem Reap so if you happen to visit the temple in that area, might as well pass by the Butterfly Centre. Or rent a motorbike and go there. Or ride a tuktuk and negotiate with driver so he can wait for you and bring you back to your hotel. It is a good place to visit because aside from learning about the life cycle of butterflies, your entrance fees ($5is helping the local communities in that area.
A very little place, but very cared. They show us how butterfly born. Good job.
Great visit, font hesitate to have lunch there too (butterflies are not edible)
A small but wonderful place. It takes about 45 mins to get from Siem Reap by tuk tukOn arrival you start with a tour by one of the conservationists showing you the life cycle and the caterpillars and the chrysalis. I was lucky enough to see butterflies emerging. Then you get to spend as much time wandering around chasing them to get that perfect shot. There is also a small cafe. It’s $5 entrance fee or there is a special for $9 which includes a drink and a snack. If you have an interest in butterflies it’s worth a trip if you have the time (or add it on to your trip to Angkor Wat)
Stunning place. An abundance of butterflies can be seen all year round. For a little entrance fee you get to see a couple hundreds of beautiful butterflies. Their guide gives you also a little tour and explains you about the complete life cycle and what they eat. We did even see a Stick insect and a Leave insect. You can easily spend 1 hour or more enjoying the colorful flowers and its habitants.
Interesting information about butterflies, also there are some other Asian insects. At the farm are many different kinds of butterflies , all of them are beautiful. large and small. now I know how the butterflies live, what they eat, and other interesting facts
The facility is small and the people friendly but I believe they over charge for what is offered. I enjoy photography of flowers and butterfly’s so OK with me. There is about 6 different types of butterfly’s at the time in season and the some of the flowers were in full glory. The explanation given was quick and rehearsed. Did give plenty of time to look on your own. Was not crowded as I was the only one there at the time. Worth the time if you are in area. Don’t make special trip. May not be worth the time and long drive.
I dont think that there is place can produce a various of butterfly near Banteay Srie.My friend and I were so much happy to see those beautiful butterfly fly around us.
Fascinating to see the life cycle of butterflies, and the many different ones in the facility.
A place worth spending 1 hour break while going to or coming from Banteay Are you. Witness all the stages of butterfly life cycle from the egg stage to the fully grown butterfly. Has an attached restaurant.
Very nice little butterfly center. Beautiful butterflies and some other insects to be seen in detail.
Nice place that appeals to both adults and children. Learn a lot of the butterflies and it’s different stages. What amaze me was the golden cocoon of the spotted zebra!
Siem Reap Butterfly center.not so big place but beautiful and NaturalIm Siem Reap driver, facebook name: Vichea Un
Worth a visit if you love butterflies like I do. Was very happy with the English speaking guide I got too, it was interesting to see the cocoons, caterpillars and stick insects also. It was great having the opportunity to be able to photograph these beautiful butterflies properly. I was there for about an hour and loved it! The tuk tuk ride to get there from Siem Reap was good too.
It was a nice tranquil spot but there werent many butterflies. Its worth a visit if youre passing by but the $5 entry fee is a bit pricey considering you can view the whole place in 15 minutes.
Nice guided tour included in the price. Saw many different species throughout their life cycle of egg, caterpillar, cocoon, butterfly.
Nice place to visit in Sieam Reap, when you dont want to see only temples ;-)
Beautiful butterflies and a knowledgeable guide who showed us all stages of butterfly life.A great and relaxing escape from the endless temples of Angkor, or a nice stop while visiting the Cambodia Land Mine Museum.
