Pie house open 24/7 offers signatures flavors such as banana cream along with familiar comfort food.
This is the first time my wife and I stopped here for breakfast. Excellent menu to choose from prices are affordable and the food is home made and the portions are huge. Looking for a new place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. My suggestion is give Bannings a try. You wont be disappointed
Home of the best pies, we chose the Elvis and it was amazing… returning for more, and more
Their pie is the best. When the strawberry pie is in season, I cant get enough of it. Great diner style food, too. Huge menu, theres something for everyone. Salsa Verde chilaquiles are incredible.
When I was an undergraduate at a college nearby, Bannings was open 24 hours so a bunch of us would go there at 3:00 in the morning after studying for midterms and finals. The staff always treated us well, the menu had great variety, and even at 3:00 in the morning or if we came back for lunch at 12:00 noon or dinner at 6:00 in the evening, the staff was always wonderful and the food was always great! Good menu variety, good food preparation, and the desserts are to die for! The pies and the cakes are unbelievably fantastic! Highly recommended!
Great place for some cheap good eats. The amount of food is plentyful and the atmosphere is that of the old 70s vibe feel. Spacious with patio. Very accommodating. Lots of parking all around the restaurant. The food is not greasy at all. The hash were still crispy and flavorful. The fresh pies looked great but we were too full to have a slice.
I am from out of town and I am typically not a huge fan of diners. This one knocked my socks off! Everything was delicious, big portions, and excellent customer service! When I am in town again I will definitely make a trip here. You should definitely go go too!
Nice place. Breakfast was served all day long and the pie was awesome. Added ice cream to the pie and it was a massive amount of ice cream! Was such ice cream I was not sure I would be able to finish it all, but I stepped up to the challenge!
At the outset, I do appreciate their 24hr policy. Truly commendable attitude keeping in mind the supply chain, service industry challenges that impacted everyone during covid. I had their chicken burger which though wasnt bad wasnt anything to gloat about too. But what led me down was their pie. I had the banana pie which really didnt wasnt anything to rave about. Maybe it was an off day or could be I had high expectations basis their marketing.Cons1.Pie was nothing close to their advertising( best pie rating in portland)2. The service staff was rigid and curt but maybe thats expected for a place that has non stop service.Pros1. Their open door policy.2. Great , huge list of menu options
Huge epic portions of freshly cook foods. Wonderful menu, breakfast all day and a really great staff.
Delicious foods , staff services are good , Clean was every place in restaurant.
Great food, was not disappointed at all. This is a great place to hit if you want something that is local and not a chain. The Mac n Cheese was killer.....pro tip dont forget to ask for the dinner roll, so good
Mixed emotions about my first visit. My order came out poorly made and a few other things were lack luster. On the high notes staff was very friendly and accommodating. My eggs werent cooked to completion bacon was great for 3/4 slices the last being just fat. The toast was slight burnt and not toasted if that makes sense... Also I think they used margarine balls that they put in the dead center of the toast. Youll see in the pictures. The atmosphere was decent the table was clean and stocked and they had real fresh flowers at each table not plastic dust gathering garbage display flowers. I thought some of the prices were high but in the end I felt it was fair with the extent they went to make sure we were happy. When I pointed out the order was visibly not made right and not good they made sure I took home a slice of their beautiful cake. Also in regards to atmosphere the cakes and pies they had on display were gorgeous looking. They had a case right by the front door spinning with delicious confectionery goods almost rocked up looking at them...They also had a neat little family story they share with you on the table side. Its long winded (which you can see I dont mindand in comic sans font which screams high-school student made this, but was very enjoyable. So overall.Staff 5Atmosphere 5Value 3Quality 4
Just went in for breakfast. I got the French toast and bacon. Super basic. Tasted like eggs on dry toast. Hubby got the chicken fried steak and eggs and said it tasted like a raw hamburger patty. We left most of it. Service was good and quick. In the past I’ve gotten more of the Mexican style breakfast and that has been good. Two stars for the service but don’t think we’ll go back.
After a day at the Portland Zoo, we were looking for some good food—homestyle food since we’re from Texas. Also wanted to be able to sit down and have someone wait on us and take our order. Decided to try Banning’s and are we glad we did! All the food was fresh and tasty, and the service was excellent. Large portions, good flavor. We ate outside. And then we got chocolate cream pie! Hard to choose from their huge list of pies.Soooo good!
Very delicious food I order omelette California I guess it is enough for 2 person 😊
As with every other place, they are short staffed. The booth we sat in was very comfortable. The food was delicious! Home style cooking at its best. Do not skip dessert! They are famous for their shakes, pies and cakes - rightfully so! Pricing is good.
Just a little slice of Americana, done extremely well. Why wait for a chain restaurant when you can eat here? Youre greeted by the spinning dessert display case and friendly staff. Many good choices on the menu, and the food is prepared exceptionally. For my kids the baked Mac and cheese and eggs Benedict; for me the chicken pot pie and strawberry pie for dessert.(Okay, I have to add an edit. As pointed out by my fellow travelers, the crust on the pot pie is out of this world good...)Enjoy!
A friend brought me here while Im visiting from Illinois. An old style building that reminds you of a mom and pop establishment. The food was excellent and lots of it, you will take some home with you.The deserts will blow your mind. I had a slice of strawberry pie that was the best Ive had in a very long time.Totally worth the money.Id go back in a heartbeat.Update 7/25/22: back again with another friend. This time I had a taco salad that was so loaded with meat that I had to take 1/2 of it home. Also tried the Marion berry and poppyseed cake that just melted in your mouth, it was that delicious!I hope to come back at least once more before I leave for Illinois.
First time visiting Bannings and its definitely a place to stop by for home-style all American food. I had the fried chicken which was really good! It was a little greasy for my personal taste, but that didnt stop me from eating the whole thing. The potatoes are buttery and delicious. The service was exceptional. Im pleased with my experience here! Ill be back for more!
Husband had the pot roast and it was very tender and flavor. I ordered Jenns Buttermilk Chickn N Waffles and it was better than expected. Chicken breast was very moist and the batter gave it enough crunchyness. I was surprised with the portion size too! Will definitely be back to try other dinner items.Custard pie was okay but very chunky.
Let me just say, this is absolutely one of the best breakfast places I have been too in my entire life, and I travel quite a bit. The PORTION sizes, are amazing!! That’s something I really look at in a breakfast place, and the price? Extremely reasonable, and the service? Everyone was friendly and food came out very quickly, this place is amazing, do yourself a favor and eat here.
Solid breakfast restaurant with good pie. Nice outdoor seating area and very clean.
This place is INCREDIBLE!!!!! There are very few of of these family run restaurants left, and certainly none that match the magnificence of Bannings. Everything is homemade, from their cakes to their chicken pot pie to their meatloaf to their towering cakes and rich pies. We were blown away with their delicious cooking. We had their meatloaf platter and their chicken pot pie. I have never tasted a better crust or filling than Bannings pot pie! And the meatloaf was so well seasoned and flavorful. AMAZING FOOD! We ended with slices of their phenomenal made-from-scratch Berry Poppyseed Cake and their Carrot Cake. So moist, rich, and unique. Highly recommended. The menu selection and service were top notch. Be sure to arrive early as they are very popular and seats fill up fast. If youre ever looking for a one-of-a-kind meal, Bannings is the place. Bravo to the family and staff of Bannings for providing such excellent food! We will definitely be back!!
We really liked their food. I had their Buttermilk Chicken N Biscuits. My wife had Country Fried Steak & Eggs. I see by the menu picture they dont put much gravy on. We like gravy, so we ordered extra gravy. The country fried steak was extra thick and I got two pieces of chicken. We could only eat half. They are family owned.
Went to dinner at Bannings tonight. Food was great and the pies amazing. I had the salmon special with grilled salmon covered with mango and avocado. Grilled asparagus on the side was wonderful. My wife had fish and chips with was good. The strawberry rhubarb and coconut cream pie was amazing.
Cute restaurant, great service, I really enjoyed the Mac and cheese but would recommend it without the breadcrumbs
Not a bad place for brunch. The server did not offer beverages for about a half hour+, a member of my party had to go and request we get service. The place was not busy. I ate with my party there and made an additional order to go in which they gave me the wrong order, and I didnt realize til I got home. I was at the restaurant for well over an hour, they should work on bettering their service. While seated, the food was pretty good. Probably will not be back.
Service was amazing, but unfortunately the food was not. Ordered chicken Marsala, but it was horrible. The chicken was dry and tasted like it had just come out of a freezer onto a hot grill. The marsala sauce was... lacking? It looked like white gravy, and the canned mushrooms made it very sweet. The grilled asparagus as a side was supposed to be grilled, but it tasted like it came off a dirty hot grill top, with black crunchy pieces of old food cooked to it. The mashed potatoes were sweet as well, albeit that could be due to the other food around it. I wont be back, and I cant say I would recommend this place for their food.
Very good meal. A little different than Southern comfort food, but delicious. We had take out and everything was packaged well. Hot and cold food separated. Silver included without asking. Ketchup also included! Great service.
I need to go here more often. I was craving carrot cake and my cousin sent me some from here through a delivery service and it is freaking amazing. Like off the charts delicious, moist and flavorful. Even my dog cant stop begging from me for it. Lol. Good stuff!
I wad pleasantly surprised. I often do not eat fried food since so greasy. I splurged and had fish and chips which were great! The dinner salad with was amazing! It was not standard iceberg lettuce, it was, greens, peas and carrots. Very fresh tasting
Reminds me of Sharis but bigger portions, home made and authentic. I highly recommend the Chicken Pot pie and French toast. The mimosas are also a huge hit. It’s about 5-6.00 and it’s a big portion. Staff was very professional and the environment was clean. Definitely going back to use that gorgeous outside patio area.
Went at lunchtime on Mothers day. They were very busy and we were quoted a 30 min wait for a party of 7. I was happily surprised that the wait was pretty accurate and, while a tight squeeze, they fit us all at one table. The staff was friendly. Food was delivered in an appropriate amount of time for such a busy day. We all enjoyed our food. I will say for mine, basic scrabled eggs, sausage, hashbrowns, and English muffin, it was good, but pretty basic. Others at our table ordered more involved dishes and enjoyed them. My picky 5 yr old ate everything on her plate. Definitely worth giving them a try. If you like sweets remember to save room for cake or fresh baked pie.
Anybody know anything about how they make the strawberry pies? They are pilled high with while strawberries. Best pie ever. Live in Mississippi and can’t quite make it there. Come on somebody tell me something……..I will make an excellent strawberry pie, eventually!!! Like Lucky Leaf Strawberry filling or what???? 😎😁
Amazing place. Delicious food, fast service, and very welcoming environment. Our waiter Chris was amazing. He refilled my boyfriends drink promptly, he was friendly, and we defiantly will be back. Thank you Bannings for being such a gem!
Food is great! Staff are very friendly and speedy. 10 out of 10 would recommend!
My experience at Banning’s is mixed! I tend to judge restaurants cleanliness on how clean the bathrooms are and salt and pepper shakers. Salt and Pepper shakers flunked. Bathroom okay. My Salmon was good… broccoli cold and seasoned mashed potatoes bland! My water was never refilled as the server would not make eye contact with me. She never came back to check to see if we needed anything until she brought the check. This is the place you go to for pie and cake! They are wonderful!
Always fabulous food here. New items for different food groups. I chose new healthy veggie SWEET POTATO BOWL. MAGNIFICENT!!! Large portion but I could have eaten more. Great assortment of pies/cakes/pastries but had to say "no!" Restaurant history was old truck stop serving comfort food. Yes, that food is still here!
Bannings had great, hot coffee (even their house decaf was lovely, and most diners have decaf coffee that is sort of gross), and I find that a diners coffee is a good indicator of how the rest of the meal is going to go, in this case both were great. They were super busy and we still got immediate service and had food in front of us in about 10 minutes. Great food. I got a fantastic, if simple, tuna melt and it came with an absolute mound of fries. This place is way out of our way, but we are already planning the trek out to have it again.
This restaurant is incredible. I have been here 3 times now and everything I have ordered is beyond impressive. Better than a lot of fine dining establishments. Beyond that, the staff is super friendly and very attentive. All round it is a great place to grab a bite to eat. I think its the best kept secret in the area. I can see why they have been in business for over 40 years. ALSO, all the pies and cakes are absolutely amazing. I will be back soon.
This place exceeded my expectations everything i had was made perfect to my liking. Thanks for the great service Giselle 🙂 the deserts are like homemade grandmas pies 🥧. So if your looking for a great place for breakfast all day or dinner this is your place nice to find a place that still cares
Such an amazing breakfast! The wait was short, the service and staff was incredibly welcoming. Highly recommend!
We were looking for a take out restaurant with options that would satisfy multiple food preferences; this fit the bill. My husband said the French dip was really good. I found some healthy options, including a bowl with sweet potatoes, veggies, and rice. It was tasty and filling. We ordered the deluxe hamburger for our kids; I ordered it well-done, and it was indeed well done, and I think a little dry but that was my fault for not considering that the patty might be thin. The flavor was still good though. The strawberry lemonade was delicious! Three unsweetened iced tea is I think peach flavored, which I dont love, but I might have missed that in the description. All in all, this place is a really good option for traveling families looking to please everyone.
Home-cooked meals without all the work. Staff was friendly and quick service. Steak was cooked perfectly. Steak tips had a great sauce. The chicken marsala was delicious. Kids meals were good sized portions. The desserts looked amazing, but we didnt have room to try them.
I had an excellent salmon dinner here with a glass of wine and an excellent key lime pie slice that I have to say was one of the best I have ever had. My service was okay. I think the waiter would have rather been elsewhere.
Outdoor and indoor dining available! Dinner options range between $14-$20. LARGE portion sizes, none of us finished our meal. Food was okay - not the best but not the worst. Waitstaff was fast and super friendly. We each ordered pie:Fresh strawberry: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Key lime pie: ⭐️🥲 (too bitter for our taste)Chocolate mousse: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Update Nov 2021: We ordered brunch and a slice of the chocolate cake and it was MONSTER SIZED??? We basically got an entire cake for $7. The chicken and biscuit plate easily serves two people. Still love this place and their super large portion sizes.
Always a great choice! Clean, great service, huge and delicious portions. Its one of my all time favorite restaurants in all of Portland. My husband and toddler are both picky and gave this place 2 thumbs up! I recommend getting your holiday goodies here as well. They definitely know what theyre doing.
Omg this place was so amazing! I had bacon cheeseburger, plus Marionberry pie and ice cream. It was delightful. Both waiters were extremely kind. I will definitely be coming back with friends :-)
I feel like I should have done this a long time ago. Bannings is a favorite among my family. We have gone regularly for years. Its an amazing diner with so many good options. The menu is full of classic meals with a home cooked feel. Everything from french toast and omelets to meatloaf, turkey/gravy, fish/chips, and chicken pot pie. Great sandwiches, burgers with home made buns, and huge fresh delicious salads. The building is well maintained and the staff is always friendly and attentive. My only piece of advice...save room for dessert.
Pretty huge meals so we had some leftovers for the next day. Wide selection of American style food. I enjoyed my fried chicken and vegetables and they were able to sub french fries for mashed potatoes which was nice. The salad was good except the lettuce was a little too translucent imho.
