650-acre recreational area featuring hiking & cross-country ski trails & a bog boardwalk.
What a lovely place. My husband and I spend the afternoon strolling in the forest. There are so many trails to choose from and most of them are family friendly.
Lots of nice trails. Well maintained and not too crowded. Bring bug spray or wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts, because there are mosquitoes and biting flies in places. Still, a nice place to walk.Update - we have been here 4 times now and its always a great experience. Over 600 acres of forest and almost 10 miles of trails. Our last visit was 10/08/22 and the fall colors were amazing and so were the crisp blue skies!
This was a really great place to spend the afternoon. The parking is very limited and causes problems with getting in and out. I was happy to see that even though there were so many cars along the road, we didnt see many people on the trails we took.
Fabulous boardwalk through a big with well made passing places and information displays.
Bangor City Forest is a natural haven. There are a myriad of trails from level dirt roads all the way down to technical footpaths and much in between. Miles and miles of route options are well marked. It is easy to spend more time than you plan on. The bog walk meanders though another world. Because this sizable acreage is within the city, its not silent nor solitary. Still, I find peace and recharge my batteries each time I visit. Enjoy!
Great place to do whatever. I went for a run here and it was a lot of fun, gravel sections, unpaved trails, and even small areas of boardwalk. It can be quite easy to get lost if you decide to run through every trail you see, but thats really not a bad thing as its very possible to find your way back. Some areas are quite intense with elevation changes and roots and rocks sticking out of the ground, so you may want to try and avoid these depending on your activity. It is certainly possible to do whatever on these trails, running, walking, hiking, or biking, theres definitely a way to do it.
Beautiful hike! There are multiple trails that are maintained well for every skill level. Whether you want a 10 minute walk or a full on hike, this is the place for you! Ive been on the long one (~5 miand it is still a nice little stroll across flat land. There are bike trails, portapotties, picnic tables, and theres a few trash cans and places to get dog wastewell, scattered about. There could be better maps for those of us that dont know the trails so well, but all in all this is a nice spot!
Absolutely beautiful. A perfect place for a pleasant walk or run in the forest. We came across mountain bikes, too, and it seems like a good place for that if you just want an easy ride. The paths are well maintained.
We were here for the bog walk, but the whole area is pretty great - magical, even. The forest and the crunchy gravel paths, then the bog walk is a boardwalk through various areas of a wetland, including a wide open space with great views. Its really a world apart! The parking is easy and just to the bog walk and back isnt very long. The boardwalk is made of composite wood and something about it (at least on our visitcreates a lot of static electricity, so your hair may stand up or you may shock other people in your party!
It was a great place to walk all through the marshes and Ive heard it the fall is very beautiful I am so happy and if you were to get tired theres more than ample places to sit all along the board as one of my pictures shows I will be going back Id like to try some of the other trails and are all part of the system
Trails are well kept. Several different trails to chose from. Signs along the trails easy to follow would be very hard to get lost.
Main trail is a well kept gravel road. Minor trails are kept earthen trails. Maps and markers everywhere, so you know exactly where you are. Felt very safe there. Plenty of trails adjacent to property too, if you want to go for a longer run.Do NOT miss the bog walk!!!! Not really a run, but an amazing boardwalk through the bog. For me it was totally unexpected and beautiful.
Nice, quiet, fully wooded park with many easy trails. Well marked and documented. The bog is interesting but few other attractions. Can be relatively “busy” with parking becoming a challenge.
Well maintained trails for running or walking. The bog walk is an excellent learning experience for people of all ages.
Flat clear trails great for walking or biking..trees envelope you! Barely any roots to trip on... take a pic of the map as the forest has many turns and paths...
Beautiful trails with plenta of flora and fauna
Beautiful forest, well mapped and marked trails. I prefer entering on Kittridge as it is a bit closer to downtown.
Beautiful natural landscaping. Quite a mile long board walk in the nature. Dogs are allowed.
Lots of trails, clean beautiful environment. Will masked out, you can even find the trail map online. Bathrooms, picnic area and the boardwalk is a nice informative walk.
We walked the big boardwalk on a Monday mid-morning. The landscape on the boardwalk was so different and beautiful. Tip: wear lots of bug spray, those mosquitos are no joke!
This is a super easy loop trail. My wife and I do it with our dogs or just ourselves at least 2 times per week. It is not terribly buggy either but I would still recommend bug spray. The main loop is crushed gravel so if you have kids and want them to bike they can do that! I don’t remember how long it is exactly as I do it to fill my step count for the day but it is around 10k steps. So go out while the weather is nice and get those steps in!
Upon arriving at the park, we found the parking lot full and proceeded to park along the entry road. The entry to the park was clean. We head to the bog walk. It has been upgraded with trex like material and was very clean. We enjoyed our stroll and met other folks either walking or sitting during their journey.
Well maintained forest with easy maps to follow.Free parking.I highly recommend the bog boardwalk. This is really unique and cool.
Very nice paths, clear trail map, very good trail markers. Will definitely go back. My granddaughters will love it!
So pretty and a peaceful almost 5 mile walk. The bog was really cool and how the trees changed so quickly when walking on it. I was surprised with the Beaty of the part being a visitor here for the week. Great find I’ll have to tell my coworkers about when they come into the city for work.
Nice place for a hike. You can go as far/long as you like. All the trails interconnect so it easy. Plenty of signs along the way.
The Bangor city walk is miles of trails thru the woods that are well maintained and marked. It is also connected to the Orono bog walk
Great place ,free and who dont love nature !!!!
Always packed full of people and Id just rate the trails as boring 🤷♀️ Maine has so many cool trails and hikes to offer! Wide flat gravel paths and easy to follow maps. Great for beginners or a Sunday stroll
My wife and I take our dogs out here to go run and walk. The main trail (numberedare always great no matter the weather. These are the more kept up trails. The lettered trails (ABC etcare incredible to walk through when it hasnt rained much. Even when it has there are some spots that hold water but are easy to hop across. There are some roots and stumps from old trees that you need to watch out for as well! Then there are named trails that run all through the forest. Its a huge playground to see some wildlife and just be out enjoying the weather. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you have free time.
Great xcountry ski spot and all around lovely spot to run into friends and cute dogs. The Kittredge Hill is very ice, bring spikes!
Such a beautiful place!! It was our first time going and it wont be our last. If youve never been, then you should very peaceful.
This was definitely worth the drive. Its a beautiful walk in a gorgeous park.
Interesting trails with a unique bogwalk boardwalk. I liked it. The restroom was very good for an outhouse type of thing, clean with ample hand sanitizer.
Beautiful trails. Not very long. Worth the experience!
Nice day for an easy walk in the woods . Boardwalk closed though due to Covid.
I love the trails here. Its a great way to escape the city without have to leave the city. Trails for hiking, walking, biking and snowshoeing and x-country skiing in the winter. There are maps posted on some of the trails, but they dont have "you are here" dots so they can be hard and confusing to read.
Bring mosquito repellent! Best choice I made. It will save you from pain and suffering. The trails are nice and lengthy. Nothing difficult unless you choose one of the unkempt paths. There are maps at key points so you dont get lost. Finding a parking may be the hardest thing to accomplish here.
Beautiful easy trails, friendly people and dogs. So quiet and piney...
A gem. How can you recommend a forest? The trails are well maintained if you want to go running, its generally not too crowded and if you want to feel a little lost you can do so with any of the back trails
Great urban forest. Best wild woodland forest scenery I have seen. Beautiful to walk in Summer. Great for walks and runs with extensive trails in the over 200 acres.
The day I went here I unfortunately wasnt able to do a full walk around. However the are I did walk thru made me want to go back. The only negative I would say were the number of horse-flies. They were terrible! Had to literally run out of there. But like I said look forward to coming back.
A surprising, incredible treasure. Glad we drove out of the way to visit. Worth every second to see this worry, secluded place.
Very nice woods and graveled walkways. Looked well maintained. There were bogs off the walkway and many mosquitoes. Trails were well marked and easy to follow.
One of the Hidden Treasures in the Bangor Area beautiful walking trails as well as mountain biking trails through the forest. Also has a decked walking trail out through the Orono bog spectacular views and a variety of unique plant and animal species. Parking is limited only only about 20 or 30 parking spots
Love City Forest! Its a great place to go for a quiet walk with tons of trails! Bike and dog friendly!
Beautiful place to take a stroll! You can be out there for hours walking different trails and the bog walk is awesome. Construction taking place atm on the bog walk, it will be open May 15 2019 again. But the trails are still open so dont forget you dog!
My dog and I love this place. Good for jogging, xc skiing, snowshoeing, or exploring nature and plants. The board walk is nice.
Amazing views and foliage. All the new flowers in bloom. Bog walk was the highlight...lots of great pictures.
You can enjoy the peaceful, beautiful walk on the Orono Bog Boardwalk in the sun or on the Bangor City Forest trails in the shade. I, myself, love the fall breeze and colors on these trails.
