A place for memory those victims during tsunami in year 2004 Dec 26.
It was very emotional to go there and see the foto of a close friend who died there
Please accept my condolences
Very dirty
Sombre memories of over 3000 dead
Nice and calm park, not much to see.
The meaning of location were great except maintained on current situation should be look after the location.Clean and Neat to respect the graveyard
Moving experience, very well designed and an a great memorial and tribute.
Very touching memorial to honor the victims of the tsunami 💛
Nice location for this memorial, right on a beautiful beach. There is a little restaurant for refreshments.
Good place to visit
A small memorial center to remember for the people who died during 2004 tsunami. It is very peaceful here.
A good place to ensure people remember what happened here in 2004.
Sad place. And almost more sad that the authorities cant even keep it nice and well maintained out of respect for those that lost their lives. Classic Thailand.
The memorial walls look nice with one side similar to a big wave. A small building by the beach, which I assume is a small gallery, is closed so theres nothing else I can do besides walking pass the wall and enjoying the park and the beach. No exhibition or information about tsunami.
lets pray for the victim and family, God Bless
In memory
Memorial place for tsunami victims
This is one of the 2 memorials along the coast of Phang-Nga district that remembers the many people who lost their lives in the Tsunami on 26th December 2004. There is a park and beach near the memorial with a large Buddha, and a small Tsunami information centre. The plaques along the wall of the memorial are there to honour each of the many local villagers and overseas visitors who perished on that fateful day. My wife spoke with a local woman walking near the beach who told her how she had lost 3 family members and still to this day cannot understand why she survived. Please don’t be put off by some of the negative comments about this is place it really is somewhere to come and reflect on the terrible tragedy, honour the loss of so many lives and a great example of nature’s awesome power.
A very beautiful place, a grave reminder of how important it is to enjoy every day.
Not kept very nicely or maintained to the standard it should be considering it is a memorial to such a sad event. Could learn a thing or 2 from Kanchanaburi war graves. Looking very warn 16 years on. Afraid of how it will look in another 16.
We didn’t expect much, but the memorial was still touching. Reading all those names on the wall was difficult. The most touching phrase attached to the memorial was obviously by someone’s living friend or restive. It read only: Now in paradise forever.
Not much there but they did a nice job on the memorial. Nice beach and shady park area to relax.
The meaning of this place is to remind us the tragedy of the tsunami and the enormous amount of victims, Thai and farang, all together, because were all human beings on this planet. Unfortunately the place is not well kept by the authorities. It would deserve more maintenance, cleaning and respect all around it.
Emotional place, even after all those years.
Locate close to blueline bts, lots of famius food shop, fruit and especially fresh seafood from feed farm and direct from fisherman
A very respectful memorial to those who lost their lives in the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami
Amazing and the restaurant accross the street exvellent
Dont know why tears in my eyes.
Its just wall of tousnami Dead people
The memorial at Ban Nam Khem is a nice place ( if you can say that), to come and reflect on the terrible disaster of 2004. A little park is set up there with a giant Buddha, memorial plaques, and a small Tsunami information center. The area has some nice trees to sit under and toilet facilities which are usually kept up quite decently. Further there is a restaurant and usually a few vendors in the area providing drinks and snacks.
Good place
Nice place to spend time with family have a restaurant, clean toilet and also park beach to seat and eat if bring outside food. Love it
Give space for thinking about what the nature can do to people. It’s crazy. I think the place have to be more maintended, it’s a memorial - thats important.
I got tears in my eyes walking through the memorial wall. Life is so fragile in the front of the nature. Live hard, live well!!
Beautiful setting for a large monument at the entrance of the estuary where the wave hit hardest
Not much to say, if youre interested in the 2004 tsunami, theres a wall with names of victims and a little (freemuseum with shocking pictures of the tragic event. Its right next to the beach by the way.
One of the last tsunami memorials still existing. Even though they are painful memories either for the locals or the foreigners this event should never be forgotten. Khao Lak region Was severely hit but only a few traces still exist
So sad to know so many perished. The golden Buddha statue is worth a visit. But the place needs more maintenance.
Tusumani memorial
Nice place to relax, long boardwalk along the sea
Beautiful park and memorial over tsunami.
Its a must. Its just so unreal to stand here and take it all in what happened here a few years ago.
The 2004 tsunami was a devastating event, killing thousands and ruining homes and the local economy along the coast. This memorial does not do it or those who suffered justice. There is a largely empty pavilion with some faded photographs of the great and good national and international leaders inspecting the devastation but more deserves to be done to show what happened and how the area recovered. Also on site: a large and impressive Buddha figure and a faded concrete sculpture
Very sad place by walking through this historic alley, reading name by names made my heart crying. It is nature who always wins everything.
Interesting pictures and memorials of a tragic event
A memorial park to those lost in the tsunami in 2004, okej to visit just to say youve been there. There is really no activity there, a small restaurant, some food and snacks stands, a toilet and a small gallery with photos related to the disaster.Directions: To get there ride your motorbike towards Takua Pa and take a left by the Police kiosk in Ban Bang Nuang and after that follow the signs.
Memorial park with nice kept small park.
beach is nice, lots of tourist come here to pay respect to the people who died during Tsunami.
Nicely kept area. Certainly can understand how the tsunami did so much damage as the area is very low. On our visit, despite it not having rained a lot, we found the road to and the memorial flooded.
