Sleek Chinese restaurant with handmade dumplings and other specialities prepared in a glass kitchen.
Open late, decent grub, reasonably priced, a new regular favourite. Highly recommend the #34 Dried Chillies Stir-Fried Chicken.
Absolutely horrendous and appalled that this restaurant is still open. Theres no customer service here. The food is poor quality. Would never reccomend if you are tan or brown because they absolutely treat uoi like trash. Had midge flies in my cup and they just left it in the centre of the table. Super rude. Super arrogant. And not worth the money
Don’t waste your time or money. This place used to be of a five star standard with great food and service. Now, the food is very sub standard, and not fresh. To make the experience worst the service today was appalling. The young guy gestured to hurry up when we were giving him the order. The only thing that tasted half decent was the can of Solo. Seriously, you’d get better tasting food and service at McDonalds which is truly saying something. You couldn’t even pay me to go back here and eat again.
The speed of service here is impeccable. Both their chicken and beef dishes are made with god cuts of meat. Of great surprise is how good they can make beans and broccoli taste with a bit of garlic.
The food was good but the service was terrible! Part of our order came out within minutes but it was served without the rice and without plates or serving implements. There was a long wait before the remainder of our order arrived. The food itself was good - once we got it.
Came here for dinner lastnight as a last minute walk in with no booking, service was good and easily got seated! Staff were very kind and respectful, accommodating to our needs and our Entrees & mains were at our table within 20mins.
Not as good as it used to be. The food was pretty ordinary and the service was very poor. They even scraped the plates off at our table!
Nice traditional Chinese cuisine. Had crispy skin roast duck and char xiu, buk choy with oyster sauce and a variety of dumplings, xiu mai.
This restaurant is terrible with food and services. I entered the restaurant close to closing time, but even then with coarse services. The wonton soup noodles had no Chinese cabbage in them and the soup was muddy.
The serving staff we extremely rude, they would roll their eyes and shrug off questions we asked. They mixed up the orders and did not tell us what the meals were when they brought them to the table. We also had to continually ask for water for the table as they only brought one jug for a table of 6 each time. The restaurant was not busy at all on this Saturday night, which was probably a sign others have experienced the same poor service.
The family dined in on a Friday night with no booking. Staff service could have been better but did the job.Food was tasty and came out fast. Standard Chinese restaurant menu with dumpling menu as well.
Have been going to Bamboo Basket for years and it’s very much on the decline.Service was terrible (had to get up multiple times to find staff to take food and drink ordersand there weren’t many people in the restaurant at the time so no excuse.Such a shame as I used to love their Xiao Long Bao (soup dumplingsbut it’s just not the same.
Food was very yummy and served within 20 minutes. No waiting at all even though it was full. Deserves high ratings. 5 ✴️
Shallot pancake is no longer the one in the pictures (instead is the frozen flat pancake that you can get from the supermarket freezer). Siu Mai meat tasted off. Char Siu Bao also had an alkaline aftertaste. Only the Siew Long Bao was passable. Seems the old staff have left and kitchen only had 3 chefs. Quality definitely not like it used to be.
Excellent food and friendly staff. Quick service and a lovely place to dine in. Offers variety of dishes to choose from.
Very friendly service, they had no issue welcoming us without booking on a Saturday night, we had Peking duck that was amazing, the food is good
Weve been here several times and food is always good. Unfortunately our last dinner was disappointing as the food was brought out over 45 mins. Dishes that we ordered to complement each other were eaten by the time the rest of the food came. And we only ordered 5 dishes so this was a let down. Affordable good food though.
This one is a no stars!! Had to give it one to post!!After sitting away from a very noisy table for our "quiet lunch" we were told to move to the front of the restaurant beside the table of 12 as the waiter couldnt walk that far.. "that far being A further metre . Didnt stay. Wont bother going back and certainly wont be recommending. A waiter that cant walk?????
My place of choice for take out when staying around Southbank side of the city. The food is great. We usually just go in and order our take out. The staff are very nice and pleasant, they would ask us to sit at one of the tables while waiting for our food. You dont have to wait long at all. Theres a lot to choose from the menu as well. We love the food here and will go back anytime.
Great staff, great atmosphere. Alex makes you feel like at home! Will definitely be going again to try the whole fish!!9/01/22 Can not recommend this place enough!! I can only leave one review, so heres an update. Visited again today with the family and we LOVED IT. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is great, and Alex still keeps everyone smiling!!
Food and service was not at its best anymore. Used to be a very popular place for freshly made noodles but Wednesday night food was a 3 star for us. We all agree that the deep fired ice cream was the best n high light of the night. Peeking duck 2 corse was the biggest let down. Hopefully once this pandemic is over, they will be back to their former glory..
Hi Bamboo BasketYour food was pleasant tasting and portions were generous. We really liked your fried rice. However, the amount of salt in your food is not OK. Also, the noodles came in a big clump :/
What an abomination.Arriving at just after lunch there were only 3 people in the restaurant but about 5 of the tables still had food baskets and remnants of other dinners lunches on them.Deciding to give it a chance we were greeted to one of the strangest waiters I have encountered. He has been mentioned In other reviews and he is unmistakable as the skinny guy with glasses ..... if you see him greet you at the door turn around and run ...... while talking on his phone the whole time while taking our order I then noticed as I was biting into my first soggy dumpling that he was picking his nose ....... I almost lost my lunch at that point and the disgust sent me and my partner running out the door quick as we could .What I did taste wasnt great and the weird vibe and experience I encountered was really one of the worst dining experiences during my stay in Brisbane.
Food was consistently good with generously filled dumplings and mapo tofu that actually has the numbing spiciness youd expect. However, the stand-out feature was the service. A member of our group was not feeling well (not COVID or food-poisoning, dont worryand the staff were attentive and considerate. Definitely more than expected, and for this we were all very impressed. Thanks for the great night!
Each dish I ordered had a distinct flavour and texture. While I generally find Chinese food to emphasise sweetness in its dominant flavour, this restaurant (perhaps because of a Taiwanese influence?), had some depth to the savoury flavours. The hand made noodles tasted fresh and the dishes were seasoned well. Furthermore, the BBQ pork was if excellent quality and generous serving size. The meat was BBQed carefully and lost none if its moisture.Drink prices are reasonable and the wait staff are attentive and fast, if not always bubbly. I would suggest that the restaurant play some music at a low level to cut through the echo that is pervasive from the hard surfaces. Without music, it can feel like youre eating in a school hall.Good flavour, good servings, reasonable drink prices.
Worst meal weve had. Our guy serving looked as though he was dragged into work and couldnt change out of his Levis t-shirt. Had no interest in serving us, dumping plates, glasses and food in one spot. Dont ask for a lime & soda, as we got lemons without any explanation until we asked. We dont have any limes was the response. No apology either.Food was really awful, but expensive. I agree with the comments on the dumplings. They were small and dry and 3/4 per serve. For the money, you would usually get twice that amount. This used to be a great spot for lovely Asian food and good service. Please dont waste your time & money, as definitely not worth it.
Excellent meal & service but very warm inside restaurant, air-con could be better.
I hadnt been here before but my wife and son had. We will definitely be back. Much of the menu feels very authentic. The flavours are great and a banquet style meal is almost unavoidable as you choose from excellent dumplings as well as fantastic main meals. A great meal and friend,y staff.
Phenomenal food. I had boiled beef with vegetables and chilli in a soup.
Great service n food. My top Asian restaurant at present. Will def be back again.
Wasnt busy when I had lunch here. Staff were very nice. Food was amazing. Had the braised pork soup with handmade noodles. Noodles were very very nice and would definately go back to have it again. The pork dim sims were exceptionally nice, tasty and delicious!
The staff here are always extremely friendly and the venue itself is beautiful to dine in. I LOVE the salt and pepper tofu but really everything here is high quality, fresh and delicious.
Very reasonably priced lunch menu, service is quick and friendly. Definitely one of my favourite places to eat.
Awesome food, so much variety. The place also has a great atmosphere 👌
beef was really good, rcmd. Others was bad, especially the fish.
Both dim sum and dishes are great. The dumplings are juicy and the deep fried pork in garlic flavor are cripsy on the outside and soft in the inside. The staff are nice and friendly. The environment is clean and tidy. Although it is a Chinese restaurant, there are more locals to visit the shop instead of Chinese. This proves the food quality of this restaurant!!
This Asian restaurant is conveniently located in South Bank and close to the surrounding student accommodations. Food is pleasant and affordable for lunch. Seating is also comfortable and air conditioning is just at the right temperature. Wines and other alcohols are also available.
Beautiful and warmly decorated restaurant. Food came out so quickly. Staff were very polite and efficient. Nil complaints. Compliments to the chefs. Highly recommendable.
With so many Chinese restaurants around, it is a mammoth undertaking for any particular one to really stand out amongst the ranks. But Bamboo Basket did so effortlessly.Having popped in unplanned on a late Sunday afternoon before the dinner crowds arrived, we didnt know what to expect. We were the first to arrive and ordered a range of ”standard” vegetarian dishes.Every single dish was beautiful prepared with fresh ingredients and delicious authentic flavours. The crispy egg noodles was perfectly done with the right balance of crispiness on the top and flavorful gravy below. The long oysters mushroom dish was generous and exquisite in every way. The shallot pancakes were exceptional and packed with wonderful flavours. We mopped up every morsel with relish and there were no crumbs left on any plates. The service was quick. The staff were friendly. The price range is higher than the average restaurant but that is clearly reflected in the quality of the meals.I highly recommend Bamboo Basket and look forward to returning again soon.
We are regulars traveling from the sunshine coast to stuff ourselves full of dumplings. Havent tried any thing off the menu except the wonton soup. Literally only eat dumplings and they are AMAZING.
Unfortunitly disappointed with this restaurant, has nice decor but food was rather average for the price, the fried rice rice was very bland and looked like it had frozen vegetables in it, the fried chicken was nice but not really worth $20 and the restaurant itself wasnt very clean. There was thick layers of dust built up all over the walls and ledges, it looked like it hadnt been dusted in months, dust and food is not a good mix in the hospitality industry
Great service, amazing food! Best sweet and sour pork I’ve ever had! Even better than the ones I’ve had back in Hong Kong and mainland! Absolute gourmet! Pork always freshly fried!! Ordered this dish no less than 10 times already.. MUST HAVE!!!
Food is better than expected. Has many gluten free options. Their crispy pork are well made- crispy, tender, not too fatty or oily and well marinated.
Food is good, fresh, fast and reasonably priced. Staff are rude, slow and think they are in a country where it is OK to be rude, hold personal conversations loudly and treat people ( esp non Asian peoples like second class humans. If you have thick skin and dont mind bad service by all means great place, if not go up the road!
After having one great meal here (crispy beef in plum sauce), I have had nothing but disappointment from this restaurant. Ordered Mongolian beef on one occasion and the dish was damn near 85% onion. That is too high an onion ratio in my honest opinion. After emailing them about it I never received a response. Also, every crispy beef in plum sauce I ordered after the first good meal has been quite soggy and stuck together.
Nice food, like xiao long bao here, one of my fevor, fried rice also one of best in my opinion.
Really really Poor customer service, it was a quite Sunday lunch. we had to ask few times for a glass of water. And 18 dollars worth of fired rice like these. Very bland fried rice.
Beautiful decor, great location, but unfortunately the food and service did not live up to expectations. It took ages to be seated, despite the restaurant being fairly empty. We had to signal for our drinks order, then signal again for our order to be taken. Despite the low numbers in the restaurant they had 4 chefs in the open glass kitchen - who looked very busy. I do believe they focus more on their Uber orders, rather than their dine in customers. When our first dish arrived, the order was incorrect, and the waiter was quite frustrated, our second dish was also wrong, but disappointingly - it was badly burnt, its the first time I have ever experienced a poor quality Chinese meal. We cancelled our remaining orders, paid for what we drank & ate and walked out. The table next to us were also very unhappy with their poor service and food, which is expensive. Such a shame as this place could be amazing!
Really good Chinese, my meal was great! My partners crispy duck was so crispy we could barely bite through it, it wasnt so good. The staff here are lovely, would come back.
The lunch specials are good in portion size. The Shanghai noodles stir-fried with duck are good but the soup noodles with wontons tasted like MSG soup, which is a shame. The ingredients used are quality but they should really have things taste home-made. They have these wonderful hand-made noodles too but not the range of delicious dumplings they have at New Shanghai. They have a new yum cha menu - passable but of course, not as great as a proper yum cha restaurant. The service is shocking - slow staff, that would rather tell you to wait while they slowly clear tables. Roast barbecue items are not very good.
