Balmaya - Restaurant in Freetown, Sierra Leone
Love this place, always has an "African dish of the day" which Ive had a few times and is always really good. Ive had the beans and rice, and the beef stew and rice (see photos of both Ive uploaded here). The waiters are always really friendly and helpful, and actually quite attentive. Although its usually quite quiet and theres usually no other customers, which is a shame since its such a pretty restaurant with genuinely decent food, although Ive not tried any of the Western dishes. The ginger beer is lovely too. Theres also an upstairs with a balcony, but the downstairs is much prettier. The prices arent bad, a little expensive but its actually worth it because the food is good. I definitely recommend a visit.
I ate fish, what im looking for since a week. So the was good, and also good ginger Joyce. Clean toiltes 4 stars
Great food, and Philip, the owner, is an excellent host! Recommend for an opportunity where you wanna to get work done or just relax with the authentic Sierra Leone environment!
As its name suggests "for snack", noisy and untidy with annoying flies surrounding.
Balmaya sometimes gets a bad rap for being too expensive for what it is. Thats kind of true: fresh coconut should never be the same price as a can of coke in Freetown. However, if you a want simple but well-prepared lunch on a tastefully decorated and well-maintained patio, its a pretty solid choice.
Slow service and not cheap but a lovely setting.
We tried 5 different meals and all were very good. Smoked chicken was great. Decent standard assortment of beers. Place was clean. Moderately priced between USD 10-15 for dinner.
