Ballyglunin Railway Station in Ros Comain

Amazing little gem in Galway. Piece of Hollywood history too courtesy of a certain Mr Wayne and Co. Beautiful scenery and wonderfully preserved. So much potential for a Greenway and a nice little coffee stop. Some parking outside, but there wouldnt be space for more than 5/6 cars.

Needs better signposting. Any rail enthusiast would love it. Oddly it is a station with current signs that suggest it is part of the network. Great preservation work has been carried out and you could see interactive actors playing roles on the platform to make it even more fun.

Part of The Quiet Man experience. This wasnt really well sign posted. Great job done by all the volunteers who restored Castletown Station (as known in the film)

Beautiful little old train station. Would be ideal for a Café if ever the Greenway was build. Lovingly kept by locals.

Ah Dottie, this place be! As fluffy clouds have repalce puffs of iron dragon steam breath. And unusally tall irons are seen in mid gait striding towards an imbrace? And what of Eugene and the gangs other works of light and form that abound and shift by the place over weeks and months while flickers of the creative arts burn bright in the carriage house now players hall of jesters and macabre ( this Samhain should be good, sow your turnips now children! ah a place of imaginative wonder be part of its future journey in some small way, at least the " quiet women" may be a good continuation of the tale..... just a hic up casting the main role....thus far:-)

Aesthetic is nice on the outside. Nothing inside! Its great for 5 minutes! If you are passing anyway then stop for a visit. Certainly dont go out of your way!

It has history. A national treasure

As a fan of the Quiet Man film, you can literally feel the actors at the place, it looks almost the same as it did in the film, and has been lovingly preserved. Standing on the platform I can trace John Waynes steps through the doors, looking out the window at Michaleen OFlynns awaiting horse and cart... The sense of nostalgia for an old forgotten time is palpable. I love it here, one of the few true original locations used in the film that you can visit and is still standing. Small fact... The interior of the station was one of the only interior locations used in the film (Besides the church interiorall the other interiors were Hollywood sets. Highly recommended

This was a special and surprising visit that me a leading movie star without the pony and trap for convenience.I remembered mickleen o Flynn with fondness as we share the same name.

Pleased that it is being restored was surprised to see it in good condition. Its a shame that there isnt a cafe there and some artifacts connected to the film the quiet man. Some old carts and suit cases etc would look amazing. Well done to all the volunteers.

Wonderfully cute and quaint train station that has been painstakingly restored to its former glory. Work continues but it is a wonderful tribute to an amazing movie and a beautiful time in Irelands history

Wonderful day brought back many memories to the local eldery and educated the younger familys on the history of the station great work done by the local comittee worked so hard on this project

The building is still undergoing renovation after the roof was replaced in the last year. The history of the station is well recorded as the station that featured as Castletown in the opening scene of The Quiet Man which was made here 1951 and started John Wayne & Maureen O’Hara. Well worth a visit if you are in the area and you will find yourself looking at the movie again after your visit.

Needs a lot of work yet but a beautiful part of our history. Ballygluinan station is of course best remembered for its appearance in the famous Quiet Man movie
