Balfes in Dublin

Stopped in for an Afternoon Tea with a friend. The selection of teas and coffees was very good. The menu did not try to be comprehensive but a good diversity of options.The choice of sweet delicacies was impressive. We were two guys but even one plate provided enough for a decent split for each of us.The service was polite, attentive but not overweening.My only reservation is about the space itself. Its not a particularly intimate space and doesnt encourage you to linger much longer than it takes to complete the business of Afternoon Teaing but even with that caveat, we had a very pleasant time and I would recommend it.

Went here for Brunch on Saturday and I was so disappointed. Restaurant itself was beautiful and the staff were very nice.The food was so average and the presentation left a lot to be desired. We ordered the Eggs Royale and the Avocado toast and both of us said you’d make as nice at home. Really small portions for the price.Would not return or recommend this place unfortunately.

Fine. Good service but felt the food was average and somewhat overpriced... Had the fish and chips, and I have had better from Macaris. The salmon starter was the best food of the meal. Good thing was they didnt rush you and we were eating , drinking and chatting for three hours...

AVOID. I was told no seats and stand ar the bar and wait. After 45mins stood with no less than 6 empty seats while I stood, I walked out. Nobody once while I stood at the bar attempted to serve me so could not even get a drink. Many tables complaining food was slow or waiting for the bill.

My wife and I enjoyed our dinner outside under the heat lamps. This street doesnt see too much foot traffic making the location great for conversation. Shout out to Andre for his recommendation and service. We ended up coming back the next morning for breakfast.

Our meal and cocktails were excellent. The staff was great with our little ones (2.5 years and 3 monthsand really helpful with a challenging dietary restriction.

Excellent service and really nice interior design. The staff was also very helpful and friendly, and they were happy to answer any questions you had about the menu. Not to mention, the food was exceptional. Ill definitely return.

Would come again. I had mussels and fries and both were amazing. It was quite busy so it all took a little bit, but the waitress (Bellawas very nice and made me feel welcome.

Staff are exceptional, excellently trained and friendly.Menu could maybe have a few more options for dinner as most of it is standard fare, but the food is excellently cooked and this restaurant is continually reliable.

We were served by Bella on a beautiful rainy day. I must say, the service was amazing. She was very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was served promptly and it was very tasty. Decent range of options on the menu. Definitely recommend .4 stars because of the portion sizes.

The place I go to when out in town. Location, facilities, menu, service are top class. I love sitting outside no matter the time of the year as this place has heaters installed.Love love love this place.

Came for quick late lunch and was seated right away in the front patio area. Had the seafood stew (very fresh and delicious creamy sauce), fish pie (light potatoes and tasty haddock), and gnocchi (lightly fried and crunchywith side of truffle fries. Overall a very tasty meal

The place is very cosy and the music is nice. I also enjoyed the wine. I was expecting a much better quality in the dishes, especially the steak, so I was disappointed. I wouldnt order the steak dish again

A lovely place for lunch. We had a delightful afternoon and the atmosphere in the restaurant was great. Really friendly staff however we did have to ask for drinks several times when we failed to get them. I would recommend a visit and lunch was superb.

I don’t recommendPoor service and food is tastelessDublin has better options for similar prices…We ordered, the food come quicklyI ordered a chicken that was not really well fried, tasting like fresh breadcrumbs. Sadly presented with rockets and cheese on top.We need to call waitress for everything, because they don’t even look at us … chatting between themselves all the time and not given attention to the customers. We finished our food and we called them to order a coffee since no one even cleaned our table after we ate. Our coffee was on the way and another waitress come to offer us the dessert menu, a bit too late.Not a nice experience, waste of time and money

Good value for incredible food.

Afternoon Tea in one of Dublin’s finest (High Tea in Londonwas grand & loved by my darling Wife (her birthday), daughter, son-in-law & me.Food was excellent as was service directed by Rory & delivered by Giulia.1st clotted cream for them & as good as I ever had anywhere the Union Jack once flew.

Relaxed classy jointMains muscles (special& prawn linguini along with side of truffle chips were top drawer.Decent cocktail menu, espresso martini was class! Electric soup(brandy & baileyswas up there too.Only faults were side of spuds could be jazzed up a bit more flavour and the mojito was lacking in that mint zest. Overall wonderful experience and lovely staff.

I was here on the 17th of June. The food was excellent and the service second to none. Jeiomy served us. He was amazing. I will be back

Nice place and the food was great, however the portion size of the gnocchi was ridiculous. The smallest portion I’ve ever seen and I was still hungry after. Everyone else’s dishes were normal sized and they were very happy. Don’t get the gnocchi!

The music was too loud in the background was needed to speak up between myself and my friend we set one in front of each other, plus the seating on the sofa area is very delicate due to the pathway to staff who slams the door and shakes the seating stationary if your seat closer to the staircase its felt strongly but even 1 seat away from it still felt loud and shiver the seat. Service was great, and was very informative about the menu, will come back for sureBoth salads we deliciousIf they would sort out the music and the door will be much better for future visits.

Had an amazing stay at Westbury. What a beautiful hotel. My favourite part was Derek in concierge (what a legendand Balfes cafe. Very cool.

Realy nice breakfast at a reasonable price! Would definetly recommend the pancakes! Friendly staff! Booked this as a birthday surprise for my girlfriend. They gave her a lovely dessert as a present, which was realy thoughtfull! Would recommend!

Overall okay experience, service was slow and menu was boring and expensive. Got the classic burger and it was good!

Had a very tasty burger here, nice wine and lovely cocktails. Unfortunately, based on the service we received I would not be going to this restaurant again, considering it was over 160 euro for lunch for 3. Less than an hour in to our booking we were asked did we think we’d be needing anything else, and felt quite rushed from that point on. At the beginning of the meal we were told a “moules-frites” on the menu, costing 23 euro didn’t actually come with chips as advertised. One of our party also ordered a trio of desserts from which there was a faint taste of garlic on one of the trio. Rest of the food as mentioned was delicious.

Fancy restaurant, nice design interior atmosphere. The mussels were really good, comes with fries. The pancakes were very bad compared, very expensive for what it’s worth. They charge for still tap water. Overall if you stay at the Westbury hotel, sure, but not really for your regular eating out for Dublin. Staff was nice and friendly though. Has outdoor heated and protected seating

Delicious food, tasty wine and fantastic waiters. Perfect for a nice dinner out.I am recommending this restaurant to everyone I know who is going to Dublin.If Im ever in Dublin again, I will 100% go here again.

Best Superfood Salad in town! Living 47 years in Orange County/Los Angeles, and being spoiled with exceptional dining, you look for the best everywhere and Balfes stands up to the test.

Met a friend for lunch. We found it very comfortable, with a great buzz, & very relaxed. Nobody rushed us out - we were there 3 hours. Staff were all cheerful, friendly & attentive. The starters might seem pricey at approx €16, but are definitely large enough for sharing, or for your main lunch course.

Beautiful restaurant and the food is just exquisite! Went with the work team for a lunch outing and boy of boy was everything delicious. The waiters and waitresses were really professional and always attending to our needs - even going as far as to rearrange their seating for our large group. Really enjoyed our work lunch there and Ill definitely be recommending the restaurant to those who need to know. 5-stars!

Extremely slow service and satisfactory food. It was over 30 minutes before someone took our order. The restaurant is also very noisy, crowded, and uncomfortable. I don’t necessarily recommend.

Staff were great, unfortunately, the food not so much.Had the smashed avocado and poached eggs on sourdough toast at around 10.30 so not during a massive rush.The avocado tasted as if itd been prepped in advance with lemon juice to not oxidise. Some of the avocado chunks were unripe.The poached eggs were unfortunately fully hard boiled and the toast had been sitting for a while as itd gotten chewy.No spices or sauce added to a €15 slice of bread...

A regular here. Food is always prepared from fresh ingredients and its always so lovely. The staff is also very professional and attentive. 5/5!

Food is awesome and the coffee is delicious.I would like to see more variety on cocktails, most are gin based.The service is good, but not excellent, at times the staff took too long to clear the table but was very fast to offer to consume more, prices are above average, so be prepared to pay for quality food.W

Lovely outdoor seating area for those not comfortable with indoor dining. Good spacing with indoor seating. Excellent service.

Outstanding meal by accident when we couldn’t get into the restaurant we originally planned. We were pleasantly surprised how amazing the appetizers & main course selections were — artfully presented & very tasty. Quality over quality. Left room for enjoying dessert. Great Rose wines here & cocktails. Excellent waiter Davide from Bologna was very attentive & friendly as was all the staff. Will definitely return again!

Balfes is a great go to place when wandering around Grafton Street. Everything from the vibe, service & food is to be enjoyed & I would be really surprised if you were disappointed!

Brunch here is always good. Even though they changed the menu, Im happy they kept the BodyByrne pancake, its one of the best in town. I need to say thank you for changing the topping from the other pancake coz thats the way I used to eat before, the oat pancake with blueberry and bacon. Its not on the menu anymore but thank you for doing it. Its the best one and I highly recommend. My husband got a ham omelette he loved it, recommend that as well. You wont regret getting your brunch here.

This was an excellent choice for a quick meal. Had the (gluten free!Fish and Chips which were perfect when washed down with the excellent house white. Served by the adorable and attentive Roisin, the experience was exquisite.

Food was very fresh and used very high quality ingredients, but I honestly just found everything to be a bit under seasoned. The avacado was just avacado - I couldnt taste any lime or salt or the like. My husband said his fries and omlette were the same way. Also, even though it was a nice presentation, my egg and avacado toast were sort of difficult to eat the way I wanted to. With one big lump of avacado and the poached eggs self contained, I just wound up getting big bites of one thing or the other. Considering all those things and the fact our meals were on the pricier side, thats why I only put three stars.

Great atmosphere.We had gin tonic cocktails at the bar, until our table was ready, the hostess was kind.The meat was served exactly as we asked for, the fish, which was a special dish, is highly recommended.To sum up, the food was superb, kind service, great drinks. We would definitely visit again.

My sister and I ate dinner at Balfes on a Friday evening when every place was packed solid with long wait times. We were able to get a table after a short time upstairs in a quieter environment. We were a little disappointed to find they were out of all steak, so instead I had the fish and chips and my sister had the beef burger. The food was decent but nothing terribly special or noteworthy.

Their brunch menu looks really solid and appetising. I opted for the turkey burger was a pleasant option. Id return for their other "healthy" offerings. The interior was lovely and the staff were attentive & the service was swift. Downside was the prices. Two brunch meals & two coffees cost close to €50. Not near the best of Dublin brunch choices but worth at least one try.

Awesome, yet a bit posh restaurant. Not as expensive as I expected but the food was great. The names for the courses are a bit posh as well, but essentially youre getting just regular dishes you would anywhere, only better (healthier, tastier, etc).Note that we only had breakfast / brunch there and not dinner.
