Balancing Rock Trail - Hiking area in Creston, Canada
Nice avid hike, mostly a small or narrow, loose shale covered trail with a few pretty steep uphill parts to get to the rock. Amazing view from the bench which is closer to the top of the climb.
We hiked this August long weekend 2021 and it was great but very smokey. The smoke was not the fault of the trail so it still gets five stars
Fin vandertur, men mega mange myg. Og så 30 grader
Great day hike in west creaton. Beautiful views of the valley and wetland preserves
Beutiful
Nice trail with beautiful views. Interesting erratic.
The hike itself at times was challenging, yet at times an easy walk. The views on the first leg of the hike were amazing. The balancing rock itself was somewhat anticlimactic. We chose to return via the Fern Trail which took as out to Hwy 3 about 2 km up the highway from the start of Balancing Rock Trail. It was not fun walking back down the highway particularly with our dog in tow. In total it took us 1 hour & 50 mins. At the beginning of the Fern Trail, I could see it being pretty muddy in the Spring or after heavy rain.
Balancing Rock is a great hike if you are after something on the shorter side, with the option to turn it into a longer hike if you wish.Once on top of the trail you get amazing views of the valley and wetlands.Certainly worth checking out if you are in Creston and want a short hike!
Not bad for a quick hike. Went in the afternoon though and it would be better to go in the morning or evening when its cooler as there is no shade protection. Nice views all along the way, but right on the highway. Would like to explore further up the mountain next time, but we headed back down after reaching the rock.
fantastic view
Nice hike, although quite icy. Did most of it in short sleeves. Pick your steps carefully.
Favorite Creston trail! So easy to find and you get amazing views all the way up.
Pretty but a short trail
An excellent hike, the hike is more then just a casual trail with some steep sections, loose rocks. Bring water, a hat, good hiking shoes, and some insect repellent. if you get winded going up stairs or have bad knees then take it slow and be ok with not making it to the top. There are several places along the way to view the great Creston Valley vistas. At a casual pace should take you between 30 to 45 minutes to get to the top. Worth the hike, before going on to the rock take a moment to enjoy the view.
Good hike. Make you have some protection for your legs from twigs and undergrowth. Some bug repellent is a good idea. It took us about 30min to get to the rock.
You have to watch for the signs to find this little park. A great place to stop and walk around. Beautiful scenery!
Nice walking trail that leads you inside the woods and a swamp.Nice overview of the valley.Expect a lot of climbing; not suited for small kids.
Special spot! Never disappoints 👍🏼
Beautiful views! Rain comes in quick though so dress appropriately.
Great hike. Lots of scrambling and loose rock. Saw two garder snakes. It was awesome!
Are you looking for a place for a nice easy hike? Do you wish to make it home in time for lunch? Well this is the place for you. Sure the rock isnt much to look at, but the view sure is! I would highly recommend this to anyone, just not after the snow melts, unless you like hiking up the equivalent of a stream
This entire area is so beautiful!!!! Be sure to be pressed when hiking, wear proper shoes, bring bear scare, have a fully charged phone (for all your selfy needsand stay hydrated!!Remember- leave it better than you found it... We borrow the Earth from our children.
This is a short hike with a nice view of Creston. The balancing rock is a bit "meh". At the end of May the wild flowers were really nice. The parking lot is a good place to leave your car. We used this trail as the tail-end of an excellent 1 way day hike. We were dropped off at the South Summit logging road were it meets Hwy 3 on the way up to Salmo Pass. We then walked to the cut line for the powerline were a trail sign marks the path. We followed the cut line to the intersection with the Fern Trail then took the Mt. Creston Trail all the way to the great lookout at the end and back down the balancing Rock Trail. Started at 9:30am and were at the Balancing Rock Trailhead at about 2pm. There is good water available on the trail if you have a filter. Bring mosquito spray!
Awesome I like the guest book!
