Fortress & walled settlement with mud-brick & stone architecture, built by the Banu Nabhan tribe.
Great from the outside, nothing much from the inside. We were told is closed, but we have seen its open.... really confusing
U can see beautiful heritage homes and view of bahla city form the fort....and a beautiful sunset thou..
Very good price. Empty fort but very large. Nice to walk around after a large lunch. Enough shade to stay cool.
Made of unbaked mud brick (just like the city of Shibambut built in the 13th century by the Banu Nebhan tribe. They ruled this area in Oman for around 300 years but there is little information on them.It is a fortified oasis, where the theology of Ibadism was centered and controlled from. Much of the 12kms of wall had fallen down and been washed away before it was placed on the UNESCO Endangered Places list. The Omani government spent $9 million to upgrade the fort between 1993-1999. It has since been taken off the Endangered list but is still Heritage listed.
Dazzling panoramic views around this wide open fort.We were one of only a few tourists on visiting this fort early in the day on a weekday. The surrounding mountain views are just gorgeous.
A UNESCO cultural site, a well preserved location near the ancient capital of Oman. A bit ways from Muscat (around an hour and a halfin combination with Nizwa makes for a nice sightseeing tour.
Well maintained fort with all precautions and also entry free is very minimal as 500 Baisa, as it is World Heritage site, everyone should visit once if they are in Oman. It’s a well planned fort.
Good place to visit as a tourist in omanGood views and others cultural events was there it’s show the beauty of mud and sand that make with a special mixture with cement and make that fort
Amazing place for visiting...We walk around 2 hours inside but we cant saw it completely because Balha fort is 1 of the biggest Fort in Oman...So you must need to visit there iff you Like Old Forts
This is a must historical journey if you are in Oman .....it is far from muscat but worth the distance / 0.5 OR for entry but make sure to bring water and cover your head. You must be brave to visit it and go up up up using the stairs
Bahla is a town in Nizwa that has a large fort. The town, which has retained its traditional features, is renowned for its pottery. The conventional techniques of pottery as still used as seen in mud kilns, which are still used although they are now fired by natural gas as opposed to firewood (Muscat-expo.com, 2022).The pottery is still a handcraft with workers using their hands to extract as well as purify clay. The perimeter wall of the town is 12km built in ancient times and much of which is still intact (Muscat-expo.com, 2022).-Adventure Tours
Not as impressive as it’s neighbor in Nizwa, but certainly worth a stop.
What ever you write is not enough to describe its grandeur & space it has. Huge & simple high walls , A UNESCO world heritage site . From the TOP of the fort you can see the City.
Ample parking space, 0.5 RO entry fees, very photogenic place.
Good old fort in bahla. Enjoyed the visit. Nominal entry fee. Parking easily available outside.
Old and nice fort in bahla., very minimal cahrges for entry (0.5RiyalIts huge and represent history of oman ,Visit if you are near by Nizwa or Jabel Akdhar or Jabel Shams
a wonder, surprisingly visited with ease and no crowds, worth the short bus ride from Nizwa. sadly, pandemics has killed the local businesses, as the shops in the Souq were almost all shot down :-(
Very interesting place to visit with beautiful views from towers. Tickets not too expensive. 11 OMR for 5 persons familly. Parents please watch Your kids as lot of paths arent protected and kids can easily fall.
Nice Fort.. not that much to see as that of Nizwa Fort but calm and large areas. There was not much visitors, so can take our own time, wash room facility available inside and entry fee is cheap is 500 Baiza per person when compare with 5 OMR for Nizwa Fort.
Such a historical place!! And its one of the UNESCO-listed added fort in Oman.
One of the most important and big forts in Oman. An icon that you must visit if you visit the country.
Bahla fort is one of the most historical landmarks in Oman. It have been added to UNSCO ( world heritage site since 1987.It is so beautiful and very historical. It will be great if they add some traditional tools and things in fort area and rooms shelves to make it more live and dynamic place .
Bahla Fort is one of the oldest and biggest forts in Oman, and the only fort in the country to be inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Official statements say that the oldest parts of the fort were built as early as the year 500 BC. Bahla Fort is located in Bahla and is less than two hours away by car from Muscat.Balha Fort was inscribed to the UNESCO World Heritage List in the year 1987. The fort was restored a number of times over history as the Nabhani Tribe restored it in the 13th century, the Yarubi Tribe restored in the 17th century, and the Busaidi Tribe restored it again in the 19th century. Bahla fort is massive and includes many towers, mosques, and wells. The oldest part of the fort is located on the left side of the fort and is called Al Qabasah which is a five-story collection of rooms. The compound of the fort is massive and can easily take two or three hours to see if you want to examine each and every room.Reaching Bahla Fort is easy, if you are coming from Muscat simply follow the signs going to Nizwa and then follow the signs going to Bahla afterwards. Bahla is relatively small and the Fort can be seen from a distance.
The officer there was very nice and hospitable. The huge complex of the fort really worth to explore. The toilets were very clean and you can do sholah in the mosque building (that originally the mushalla from centuries ago)
Impressive location with lots of history. But, zero information provided to explain the history, different areas and room of the Fort.
Wonderful view of Bahla from the top of the Fort. Beautiful Omani Architecture experience. Easily accessible.
Beautiful old desert fortress which was well renovated. Entry is only 0.5 (no cash payment, only card). You can walk around everywhere inside. Sadly no information anywhere inside. Views are fantastic anyway.
Awesome place to see with very nice guy at the door. Very friendly a willing to tell you about the history of the place. The downside is that in Bahla, there is no accommodation - you gotta go either about 5km towards Tanuf or stay in the village west of Bahla (Jibreen).
For full disclosure, I couldnt go inside, as it closes at 4, but the entrance was closed half an hour before it, so better planning next time. The fort is I believe one of the largest mud buildings in Oman (if not the largest). It was once the capital of the country, so you get some history. It is very well preserved / restored and I am wandering if some parts are quite new. There are many forts in Oman, but this one is the only World Heritage. If you are into history and cultural heritage, it is worth the visit. If you dont care that much, visit one of the other forts near Muscat or close to your itinerary. I doubt that they are that different, though this one is the largest.
The fort is realy big and very well restored. There are no items displayed inside not even furniture. Entrance fee is 0.5 OMR for an adult and 0.2 OMR for a 6 years child or above. There is a parking in front of the fort. At the foot of the fort is an old ruined quarter with clay brick dwellings. Opposite the fort is the souq but you can skip it cause is nothing interesting there.
Never seen such beauties! Special & a must to visit even info and museums inside are missing.
This fort is very beautiful and the size is very impressive. But it is lacking a lot of local furnitures / exhibitions / explanations. There might be so much to tell about local history.
Feel like walking in some location in Game of Throne! Very photogenic and some corner can give you a little bit goosebump. Cool place, do not miss!
A must visit fort, a far drive but worth it the thing is you have to get a hat and sunscreen it was hot and you will walk in the sun.If you are not scared of bats then good for you, you get to see all the dark rooms and chambers otherwise my suggestion is avoid any room that seems dark its full of bats
Its a reasonably big fort. With many levels and rooms. It also have good view from top.Charged 1 Omani Riyal for my family.
Bahla Fort beauty is amazing it’s fantastic great structure in old and famous architecture castle Must see when sun set going down lovely colorful light and Dark so nice ... 🌹
The place is truly staggering and blows Nizwa fort out of the water. Huge scale to the place. Investigate rumours that many skeletons were found in the walls during renovations, apparently a previous Imam was into black magic and these were his victims.G
Larger and different than other forts and castle in Oman, the balham fort is a must visit in your tour of Oman. The entry price is extremely cheap. Unfortunately and different than other forts here there was no local guide to help you visiting the castle and helping you with historical features and stories.
This 12th-15th C. fort is one of the largest in Oman, having been expanded upon during successive conflicts over the centuries. It is interesting and worth a visit if you are going to be nearby, but possibly not worth its own journey from Muscat. It has some good views, but it is almost entirely empty of historical artifacts or notice boards.
The Fort impressively big. Some parts still under renovation. Very friendly staff.Highly recommended to visit.
This is Bahla Fort in Bahla town of Oman. Symbol of Rich heritage and great Historical Place to Visit.
Nice place to visit. Lot of historical memories there. Entrance fee is manageable
Beautiful big fort in Oman. Bigger than Nizwa. Great architecture. It’s just a shame that there are no more attributes in the rooms. Almost every room is empty. Some old antiques would be nice.
Very nice clean place. Good historical site to visit. Small bats can be seen inside too.
Nice and quite fort which is maintained well and has beautiful view. A must place to stop by if you are in nizwa. Staff there were very friendly and loved it. Fort seems small from outside but is actually huge and has many rooms and sections to visit.
A very beautiful fort which is not very crowded. You get to see a very good view of the city from the top. Nice place to visit.
Awosem historic Fort.It is the biggest and the oldest fort in Oman. But there is no information signs or guided.
Like others have mentioned, the fort itself is huge and very impressive. The downside is you have absolutely no clue what it is or why/how it was used. Its completely empty with no signs or any guides as to what you are looking at. We ended up going home and googling it afterwards. Its only 1/2 rial entrance fee which is affordable.
Look, the fort is impressive. But theres not a single piece of information about the fort or its many rooms anywhere to be found. So like... You dont learn anything or gain knowledge about the fort or its history. Furthermore, there are no artifacts or things to look at. Its literally a fort and thats all. It certainly could be improved with more info or guides to explain things.
The most impressive fort Ive visited in Oman! It is really huge and amazing and worth to visit! Highly recommended.
