Despite the cavernous internal spaces, this museum presents an impressive range of artworks and historical artifacts. Many of these are of great interest and high artistic quality, especially the statues. Yes there are cheesy dioramas and model temple displays that seem old fashioned. However I actually enjoyed these displays too. There is way more material here than the average person would be able to absorb. I think you could easily spend an hour here, as a break from temple touring. You may even learn some context for all those spectaclar ruins that you see outside.

A converted formal palace, this place needs a bit of general renovation. Nevertheless, it has a decent collection spread over a few floors. One item in particular, a bronze, blossoming statue is the gem of the collection. All descriptions available in Myanmar and English

The Bagan Archaeological Museum sets lofty goals for itself. It manages to achieve some, while leaving a few questions unanswered. Considering the rich archaeological heritage of the city, I was expecting a larger collection of artifacts. I was not disappointed. Theres still a lot of them at the museum. I just hope that, in time, the collection will grow richer and that the archaeological treasures of Myanmar will be saved for future generations.

Has potential to be more engaging and educational. Some things require more information. I would recommend hiring a guide if possible to receive a better understanding of what you see. Additionally, halls are a bit hot and need more air :0 but still a good place to go to escape the sun.Glad we went.

Kind of a must see if you visit Bagan. USD5.00 entry fee, but fair enough, there is some seriously old history on display. Downstairs was very good, upstairs was drowning in Buddha statues.

A must visit to get an idea of the history of Bagan. Well arranged and graphically explained, it is the place to start the visit of Bagan from. The different statues of Buddha in various Mudras , the multitude of stories that reveal a glorious past, the imposing painting of the temples------ all are necessary to be imbibed first to understand the ancient culture of Bagan

Thank you for the environmentally friendly idea to provide e-scooters for the touristic exploration of the historical park in Bagan! I loved it to explore Bagan by e-scooter: It was QUIET and DOES NOT POLLUTE the AIR with stinky emmission gases!! It guarantees relaxed and chilled cruising through the sandy area especially during sunset/sunrise and it gave me the good feeling to not further challenge the environment by just being a tourist. Great step towards more environmental awareness in tourism! I wish other touristic countries in Southeast would implement e-scooters, too, and take Bagan as a positive example. E-scooters should replace environmental disasters such as nasty and stinky tuktuks!

Huge building with not a ton in it. Worth a half hour stroll to get out of the heat, but your time in Bagan is probably better spent exploring the archaeological zone.

Humble but highly informative. Its a massive building but dont be intimidated. The exhibits inside are simple but full of useful information. If possible, visit here before touring the many temples in Bagan. Unless you are a historian specializing in the Bagan Period and other Southeast Asian cultures, youll learn a lot of useful information about crosscurrents, architectural approaches, history, religious beliefs resulting in various depictions of the Buddha and more. I wish I had realized how I could have developed a sharper appreciation for /understanding of what I was seeing the previous day! Allow 1-2 hours. Almost every caption and sign provides English translations.

This place looks nice from the outside but is kinda boring on the inside. Youre not allowed to bring your bags or camera inside ( since most pieces are just laying there without any protectionbut everyone is making photos with their phones so the no camera rule makes no sense. After 30min I was outside already, yes it was that boring... so dont waste any money there and just enjoy all the temples and pagodas

You need to take your time to view everything slowly. Digital cameras and large bags are not allowed inside. You can store your belongings at the locker place by asking the key from reception staff. Locker usage is free of charge. You can bring along your phone and small purse. Entrance fee is 500 Ks for local and more for foreigners.

If you havent had your fill of Buddha by now, this museum should top you up. It cost 5 USD per person and had 3 areas that ran air conditioners... So depending on your day, it might be worth it on that fact alone. There was interesting art work, clothing, dedication stones and some replicas and explanations of some of the more famous pagodas and temples found in Bagan. The huge building is hard to miss.. its not a must see, but you might as well if you are in the area.

Great collection of artifacts and historical inscriptions. There is also a room dedicated to the paintings about the temples and stupas in Bagan. So if you did not have enough time to visit all the 2000 over temples, you can see them here, with brief description of each.

Temples are nice but just now piles of bricks all thier grandure eroded away. The museum provides insights into the grandure, the elaborate decorations that draped these brick skeleton that now dot Bagan landscape. Furthermore very enlighten policy let you use you cell phone camera to take pictures. I wish more museums would allow photos.

Very desapointing. Not much archeology.. Bad paintings and models of the temples and pagoda that you can see in real everywhere in Bagan. collection of engraved stones and Buddha statues without context or learning path. Not worth the 5k kiats, and not even the time, if it was free.

A must-see to understand how Bagan came to be. Lots of 3D models of the original state of palaces and short information about WHY they were built/commissioned by kings, etc. Useful information also on the way the local population uses natural resources, eg. The palm tree. Would definitely go again! Very informative!

I honestly dont know what all the other reviews mean when they say this a good museum...The museum costs 5,000 kyats. There is no specific planning or timeline for the collection. Though there is information on the indigenous peoples within the Bagan region and their everyday lives, there is no relevant information on how Bagan came to be.The collection is not that impressive or interesting. It contains mostly buddha statues, and indigenous peoples tools. The most interesting part is the display on the different hairstyles that the royals couldve had.I really urge the staff to work on creating a plan so that the museum can be more interesting and engaging!

Huge historic museum with lots of artifacts, well labeled and informative, architectural models and paintings. Worth coming to learn some background before going around the pagodas. The museums own architecture is hideous. One star off because you are not allowed to bring any thing in with you, including cameras, or water (there is no cafeand must leave your bags in unguarded lockers. In addition, the toilets were in an unbelievable state of filth. The staff mainly sit in groups talking rather than doing anything. The top floor is closed, I heard that is as a result of the damage from the recent earthquake. Closes early and is closed on Mondays.
