Nice place š must visit
Had a lot of difficulty climbing those steps, but it was well worth it.
Had gone there to check out rock climbing. Got late and saw the temple. The temple pond is apparently open to swim as per locals.
Badami cave temple 1 and 2 are nearby. A monumental site under ASI. It will be more enjoyable if we know a little history also. Near to cave temple one museum and adjacent temple structures are there. You should not miss that. There is walkable path to the museum. Or else you can drive a car from main road but very narrow and busy untidy route. Atleast 1hr is required to see all these.
Entry Fees 25 Rs per head for Indians when I visited recently .cave is good and clean .I left my sandals outside the cave and entered .seen minute arch.structures.fine arts.deep cave is closed .beautiful place to taste the architecture of chalukyas .
A very ancient cave temple again carved out of monolithic rock structure.
This place is peaceful and beautifully awesome. The sculptures are well carved. Looks beautiful @Sunset & @Sunrise.
It is very beautiful to see. It is a historical place. You must visit it
Total 4 different caves dedicated to Lord shiva, Vishnu and Bramha. One jain temple is also there. Worth visiting.Pros-- Idols are in good condition, easy to climb.Cons-- Commute is not great.
Its good historical place if you want to visit.
Biggest cave in the badami lot of sculpture in the cave which are very beautiful. Lot of avatars of vishnu carved in the cave e.g Varah
A historical cave temple of shivite tradition. Wonderful piece of architecture on soft rocks.
Small , simple, well maintained and worth a visit .....
The last cave which is on the top has the depiction of the Jainism. There are sculptures of the Jain Theerthankaras. Some statues have been disfigured but just by their noses and hands. They are still a worth a watch. These are some of the places which are a must visit. The place is usually crowded over weekends
Beautiful well maintained...
Good historical heritage centre. But horrible maintenance. Not tourist friendly
Its good place I visiting every month her
There are 4 caves in a small area at different heights - delightful. Need about 2 Hrs. A guide is must, cost eight hundred in August 2022. our guide Basavraj was very good. Limited parking available - may be difficult in peak season. Approach road is just ok. Near caves is museum and two temple clusters on lakeshore - suggest walking - approx 3km round trip from caves, for car impossibly narrow approach road through bazar & slums. Badami Fort on the hill opposite the caves has two small temples and magnificent view of surrounding areas - entry near museum.Within 35km from Badami is Aihole & Pattadakal - cluster of temples, latter is world heritage site, former is nursery of Deccan temple architecture. Needs one day, and guide - fees Pattadakal 400, Aihole 500 - 1000+ (Aihole has many clusters, apart from main Durga temple clusterNo restaurant in Pattadakal, in Aihole Karnataka tourism restaurant is there but very slow limited service.Other nearby places are Mahakuta temple , Banashankari temple, Kudala Sangama (Krishna river)
Beautiful rock carving of ancient times! But not for old people! Lot of climbing with steps of varying heights.
Beautiful place to visit with family. One can see a good example to ancient temple architecture, the methodology to store water, prevent themselves from harsh weather and predators.
One of the best places near Hubli. Though there were many monkeys, it didnt disturb us. If youre upto historical places this ones for you.
Nice rock cut cave with intricate sculpture depicting religious motiffs. Very good state of preservation.Involves climbing lots of stairs. Successive caves are dug at higher elevations on the same hill. So, old people may not be able to see all the caves.Highly recommended to visit. You will not need a guide here.
Very nice place feels sad and proud to say Hindu darma is the oldest n richest!! Keep visiting till our history stay in our heart n mind forever!!
Beautiful place if you fan of archeological sites. And its also good for travel Frick people. Monsoon and winter is best seasons for visiting badami. Here are almost whole badami region is occupied by temple, monument and great locations for photography. If you have your own car then its more enjoyable otherwise auto riksha is best option. They charge 300 rupees for badami archeological museum from bus stop, badami fort, badli cave temple and Banshankari shakti pith, all this places are covered under the 300 and advantage is they wait for you. All this places take approximately 5 hour to see. If you want to see this place in detail then you need more then 3days. Parking is available. Ticket for museum is 5ā¹ for cave temple they charge 25 ā¹ and 300 ā¹for foreigners. Frequently KSRTC buses are available for bagalkot to badami or kerur to badami. Both are good route to reach badami.Wheelchair accessibility for this places are lilbit difficult but if you have some one for lift you then there is no problem. Small market town is situated at the foothills of badami. Coconut are cheap here than Northern Karnataka and its best for refreshments. You must try it.Carry some food and good amount of water with you..Dont try to mess with monkeys here..
This place is located in Bagalkot dist in karnataka this caves are built chalukya s at tine our artists are more effective carving in stones that they used no machinery and working is by hands hats of the artists and employer
One of the beautiful place on Earth šš¤©. We enjoyed very much. There are very wonderful amazing rocks and scriptures. There r 4 Caves. Bhutnath Temple etc......
World Heritage Site..Not required to take any guide here..Beautiful architecture
One should experience and go back to the 5th century to know why the people are so content and happy in the Chalukya Dynasty
Surreal beauty of extensively carved stone sculptures leave you stunned...The Nataraja , icon of Badami, is a symbol of Chalukya power and prosperity.
The place is very good but the staff here are very bad. Even the ASI staff are very bad. The entry bar code scanner developed by ASI is removed from here by the staff ,so that all have to pay 5ā¹ extra. These 5ā¹ were will be in the pocket these staffs. Also they put a parking fee board here but we have to pay extra. When I asked about that to the staff they were shouted at me. How come ASI has these kind bad staff. These kind of people will ruin beautiful places like this.
All caves, cave1, cave2, cave3 and cave4-jain cave are located nearby. Strongly recommend to take guided tour, we missed it but one must hire them to know details.
This is the second temple which is inline alone a set of four cave temples carved a rock mountain in an elevation. Dedicated to Vishnu. Impressive and gigantic. You canāt imagine how hard it would be to come up such carvings in a rock and the result looking absolutely stunning and astonishing. I would like to be transported to the times these cave temples were being carved. Such a wonderful place.
First Cave temple is constructed in the 6th century, dedicated to Shiva. At the entrance on the right wall of the facade, is a unique carving of 18 armed dancing Nataraja, that signifies the 81 dance movements of Bharatanatyam.Nataraja doing his tandava dance with a damru, cobra, a trishul, is flanked by Nandi on the left, with Ganesha & a drummer on the right.Manifestations of Shiva in the form of Ardhanareeswara & HariharaĀ can be seen.Ardhanareeshwara with sage Bhringi, Nandi on left & Parvati in the right, is another elegant sculpture.Harihara is a fused image of Shiva & Vishnu Shiva is accompanied by Nandi & Parvati, while Vishnu is with Garuda & Lakshmi.Shiva has his matted hair held together by a snake & a moon, while Vishnu has a jeweled crown.Shiva has snakes & noose, while Vishnu has jewels & conch. Some of the other ornate sculptures are Mahishasuramardini, Kartikeya riding a peacock

These sculptures are made way back marvel of engineering and technology in those time. This makes everyone think the achievement of ancient time and their thinking towards developing society a must visit place I would say

The Badami Caves complex is part of a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site candidate under the title "Evolution of Temple Architecture ā Aihole-Badami-Pattadakal" in the Malaprabha river valley, considered a cradle of temple architecture that formed the model for later Hindu temples in the region. The artwork in Caves 1 and 2 exhibit the northern Deccan style of the 6th and 7th centuries, while those in Cave 3 simultaneously represent two ancient Indian artistic traditions; the northern Nagara and the southern Dravida styles.Cave 3 also shows icons and reliefs in the so-called Vesara style, a fusion of ideas from the two styles, as well as some of the earliest surviving historical examples in Karnataka of yantra-chakra motifs (geometric symbolismand colored fresco paintings. The first three caves feature sculptures of Hindu icons and legends focusing on Shiva and Vishnu, while Cave 4 features Jain icons and themes.
The Badami cave temples are a complex of four Hindu cave temples located in Badami, a town in the Bagalkot district in northern part of Karnataka, India. The caves are considered an example of Indian rock-cut architecture, especially Badami Chalukya architecture, which dates from the 6th century. Badami was previously known as Vataapi Badami, the capital of the early Chalukya dynasty, which ruled much of Karnataka from the 6th to the 8th century. Badami is situated on the west bank of a man made lake ringed by an earthen wall with stone steps; it is surrounded on the north and south by forts built in later times. The Badami cave temples represent some of the earliest known examples of Hindu temples in the Deccan region. They along with the temples in Aihole transformed the Malaprabha River valley into a cradle of temple architecture that influenced the components of later Hindu temples elsewhere in India....
Once youre done with the main temples, walk to the other side of the water tank below. Theres a path along the water tank. You can actually walk across on the tank steps. Its another long climb to the top on the other side. There are no caves here but the remains of a few temples, cannons, pillars and lookout posts. Its amazing what these people accomplished without the technology we have at our disposal today.
Woww Amazingly Awesome...!!This place has 4 caves and is a complex of Hindu, Jain and the Buddhist cave temples. You can observe the detailed carvings with a Finishing perfection. All such caves are carved in a single rock. Please be aware of Your belongings , wallets, camera , mobile etc due to monkey gang. Fort is located the top of the cave but doors are shut for visitors due to security reasons. Carvings of Ardhanarishwara, Shiva, Nataraja and Bahubali are seen in the caves.
This is the 1st Cave Temple in Badami which is dedicated to the deity Shiva. One can find the dancing sculpture, arthanareeshwara sculpture(half Shiva, half Parvathi of Shiva), also lifestyle of peoples sculptures and many more inside the cave. These cave temples are built in 6th century. Every cave temple is carved from top to bottom, nothing is joint. You can see sculptures only in the entrance hall because the facing of the temples is North, so the light could hardly penetrate deep inside the cave. Sculptures are carved only till where natural light can reach.
Very pictorial place, its a small climb, bit crowded still manageable.A must visit at Badami..Entry ticket RS 15/- for all of us in India.
