Backo Mini Express - Museum in Zagreb, Croatia
Beautiful place for children and adults sa well.
Such a cute little museum with an incredible level of passion, worksmanship and detail behind it! The museum is small, but you could spend a decent amount of time poring over all the small details. The two main rooms even have a setting where the room lights dim to mimic the night time, and all the “city lights” light up, with storm sounds in the background. Such a nice touch!Be sure to check the opening hours online before going, as it’s only open on Fridays and Saturdays.
Honestly I was expecting more but regarding the price it was ok. Very nice expirence for young children - there are 3 simulators at the end of tour where you can drive RC trains for additional cost. 5 Kuna (aprox. €0.80per drive. Place is clean and tidy. Lots of stairs so not so good for strollers or wheelchairs. There are model trains (collectors itemsthat you can buy to have some souvenir from museum but they are too pricey unfortunately.
It was an amazing experience with different life-like models! Its fun both for children I think, as well as for adults who like trains or dioramas. We could spend more than a hour just by looking at them and see how everything moves. The staff is also super friendly and it was great to talk with them. In the end we could try out some trains and control them :)
Wonderful experience, very amazed by the attention to the details, it is evident the effort they put in building (11 years!!!I would recommend 100%.At the end you can also drive a mini train, super fun
Loved it, super kind and passionate personnel and its evident the passion that these people have for this not-so-much hobby. Wonderful and advised!
A nicely detailed model railroad. They have obviously put in quite some years of creativity and building. And are still building new extensions. Due to many things going on at once, its also fun for the kids. At the end kids can drive a model train themselves, for kids 3 years and up. This requires an additional 5 hrk per kid.The museum has next to it the only model railroad shop in Zagreb. Its not large, but does sell several kits and Märklin and Trix trains.
Very nice miniature train setups with a lot to see. The ground floor contains a plurality of intertwined pretty detailed scenes with moving trains and road vehicles. The underground floor shows a scene directly inspired by the square in front of Zagreb train station in winter times.
Really nice staff, would highly recommend to any locals or tourists.
Amazing showcase, you cannot be disappointed with all the details. Definitely would recommend visiting if you are ever in Zagreb.
Adults go back to childhood. I wish I had such a train toys. So detailed landscapes, that you open new and new stuff carefully designed and built. Thanks to the creators!
Very beautiful model with lot lot of details, very interesting for the kids but for adults also !
Great place to visit with your children, especially if they love model-trains! Staff is very polite, they are kind and willing to explain and answer any questions you have! Look out for the details on the model layout because there are some really funny things there to discover! There is also a special place in the basement where you can play and control model trains by your self, you can operate different systems on the trains such as lights and sound! You will even get a conductors hat if you like! ;So come along and enjoy the ride!
Mega cool place for kids and adults. Its outstanding automated train model!
Small but very interesting place. The staff is very friendly and tell great stories about trains and the museum. If you have kids, this is a must visit place.
The employee quickly went with us through the exposition (which is indeed excellent, no questionand then immediately kicked us off. So, no chance to actually take your time and enjoy the exposition. The excuse was "covid", even though we were alone in the museum and there was noone else waiting outside. My daughter left the building crying - thats the bottom line.
Nice to visit with kids.Lovely details with wedding, playground, cave, skilift, rock concert, cyclists and more... Missing some car traffic, some water/ship/coast section as Croats are so praved of their coast. I think they will expand their work in a future. Its interesting to see train lift that moves trains from ground floor to underground floor.Paid 65 Kn for a child and adult. The first rule is that you cant return to beggining of the model when you have come to the end of it. So you have to observe it section by section slovely and detaily. There is a section for children to play model trains for 5KN per turn for like 2.5 minutes.Got some free cataloges of model making brands for free.
Museum of small trains, models with a series of carefully crafted details. A group of enthusiasts have been working on this for more than 10 years, and during the tour it is possible to see how the models are made.In the basement there are several models that visitors can manage, and there is a shop where you can buy some parts and toys. One of the best places for children in Zagreb at the moment.Due to the specificity of the area and epidemiological measures, a shorter waiting period for entry is possible.
An extraordinary place! A lot of effort and passion has been invested in the models. And visitors are presented with a wonderful story about how the system works and about the individual events that the model represents.
Beautiful miniatures, work in progress but still deserves a visit
Its an unfinished job unfortunately , somebodys great vision.i enjoyed my time there, maybe a less expensive ticket because the whole show is only in one session
Totaly cool place. Best thing is detailed explanation from one of the employees. At the moment there are 130 trains that exchanges automatically and 30 trains are running at the same time on the tracks. They are planning to expand to basement with train elevator.
a lot of details, very charming concierge and tour guide, definetly not only for children, many high sophisticated technical features like train elevator, real moving skiing figures, you want to start building your own minitrain layout instantly ;)
This is a must-see when you visit Zagreb. Whether you like model trains or not, you have to come to admire the dedication and all the work involved behind these small trains. Attention to the smallest details: people figurines, beatiful sceneries, many tunnels, day and night illumination, and real places from Zagreb, like the scenery from Trg Kralja Tomislava and the Glavni Kolodvor (Zagrebs Central Train Stationin winter time. Watch also the video from croatians young singer Mia Dimšić, called Snježna ulica, that is also displayed on a LED screen inside the museum, you have to find Mia in the Kings Tomislav Square! Very nice Museum made by passionate people. Basement also includes an area where the electronic components of the sets are explained. Very recommended.
Very detailed and realistic miniatures. Not only trains, but figures, cars, animals from everyday life!Staff friendly, cozy location! Suggested for young and old people, lovely place!
Small but very nice and detailed. Friendly staff, willing to explain everything you whish to know. The whole exhibition is actually work in progress, as it grows bigger every year. Worth a visit.
Very well positioned in heart of Zagreb. One of the coolest model train display I have ever seen. In two stories. With elevator for model trains. With cars driving on streets. They even have skiers! But the best part is, that is not just for watching - they have a room you can test your model train driving skills. Kids love it!
Had so much fun
Must see in Zagreb, the amount of time and effort to build these models is tremendous (8 yearsand it really shows. You could spend days looking at models and still find something new every time.
This place is great for kids but not for young people. There are few railways and the price is too much for the small exhibition they have.
Lot of passion into an ever changing landscapeI love trains and I found a place built by people like me, passionate for the miniature World of trains and stations. Beautiful scenery, many trains and other features electronically controlled (skiers on slopes, traffic lights, vehicles, building sites and more). And on the lower floor two dedicated stations Roco Z21 powered to enjoy the marvel of trains with your kids. A must go if you’re in Zagreb!
Amazing little museum, very friendly tourguides and incredible model with lots of details and stories - lots of fun even if you are like me are not a model railway enthusiast!
Absolutely wonderful experience! The layout is amazing with loads of great and funny details, and the staff are very friendly and give an excellent tour. I would highly recommend!
Hard to grade this small exhibition of model trains, on one hand its a really nice model town but I dont know to whom its meant to be for. Some part of the models are so far away from where you stand its hard to see whats going on. Clearly made by a group of enthusiast, the love they have put in to the models is showing, but they could use some help on the presentation.
Still a work in progress; there are some small areas being added. Cars didnt drive, but I think thats being revisioned. Its impressive how much they can fit in such a small place. In the basement you can control some trains yourself on small tracks through an iPad, for 5Kr. Funny, I guess even more so for kids. Not close to Hamburgs Minaturworld. But thats an unfair comparison. Keep it up and running!
Interesting place to see.Started as hobby, now small business.
A nice museum of model trains. On two levels. Level 0 just exhibition and level -1 sets for playing. Shop in the entrance. Very interesting for children and most of grown ups. Made with a lot of patience and attention to details. Helpful staff. When we were there, they were upgrading the exhibition so we couldnt see all the exhibits. Will have to visit again soon.
Just fantastic. Attention to detail is superb.
The Best model railroad around. Much effort put into details. For generations 30+ flashback of ideal train dream world. Prices modest. A must see for older as well as little children.
Simply awesome. So much work and detail put into the model. You cannot stop looking and every time you find something new, a new figure or situation happening in that wonderful fictional town. There is even a small model where you can stear the train by yourself. It really pays off to see it, especially if you have kids. Its the biggest train model in southeastern Europe, so worth a visit! Highly recommend.
A lot of quality used in the doing of all the models, kids can play and adults enjoy
Outstanding layout. One of the best Ive seen, so much put into such a small (though not too smallplace. Multiple trains running and great effects provided (thunderstorm). Well worth a visit and located just a few hundred yards from Ban Jelacic Square in the heart of Zagreb. Opens in the afternoon. Great experience!
Had a fantastic time visiting the model railway. Although still under construction in some areas it still has an amazing visual effect to keep you entertained for over an hour following all the different lines. Friendly and helpful volunteers/members who explained different aspects of the railway and future plans. Well worth a visit 😁
Outstanding railway modelling! The tracks are on many levels, climbing up to the ceiling, and down through the floor under transparent tiling. Just the engineering of the platforming and access structures is worth a visit! Perhaps the best bit is the fact they are continuing to build areas, so you get to see their teams at work, and how a complex railway model can be built up. Downstairs they have prototype models and two layouts where kids can drive the trains using iPads for 5 kunar.
A place here everyone can find something of an interest.Worth visiting!Really friendly staff enthusiastic about what they do. Done with great level of detail (2around 2000 details scattered around - like squirells/birds in trees, a part of a zombie, free climbers, mountain goats and similarand many interesting trains running around the place and underneeth visitors feet as well as effect of night storm makes this an unfogettable experience for the kids and grown ups as well. There is a possibility for visitos to control trains in the cellar, as well as many new things coming up every once in a while.
Its not a big place but kids will have fun time here. Passionate owners explain everything about this place. For 5 kunas you can drive these little trains for couple of minutes. Family ticket was 70 kunas, adult 25 and children 20.
We had a great time here; for a reasonable price considering the effort being put in. It is a work in progress but I asked about that and it has been a work in progress for 7 years and will be another 7 or so to finish as they are always adding new things. Had a brief chat with two of the staff and they were very enthusiastic in answering questions and such. Downstairs has a setup so you can run a small sampling, Im sure this helps gets people excited.
Excellent Experience, just to watch this... it was definitely incredible!
Work in progress but what is done is great. Super scenery and excellent train models. Guys so friendly and keen to talk railway modelling. Great way to spend an hour or two.
Cute little installation, but still in progress. Fine details and worth to see. Night/day change and weather simulation. There are 2 little arrangements where you can drive trains by yourself, very funny.
