Babur in Dīg
Description
Privilege
I’ve never enjoyed Indian food until I tried this place.
Booked this location for a surprise gathering for my Sons 21st birthday. They were fabulous hosts and allowed us to decorate our area. Amazing food, fabulous service & everyone was pleased with the choices!
MoreLovely dining experience. Food was delicious and service great. Went for my husbands birthday dinner.
MoreA lovely little gem of a restaurant. The menu is exciting and the food delicious (especially the swordfish), and they also have an impressive cocktail list. The service is impeccable, and our waiter managed to work out it was the birthday of someone at our table and surprise us with a sparkler. Would highly recommend.
MoreI had been meaning to go for sit-down dinner here since I moved to the area years ago. The takeaway menu hit the spot a few times but thats as far as I got. It took my dads 80th birthday to roll around before it actually made it happen. With 15+ attending, the night took a fair bit of planning but the manager worked with me to devise a suitable tasting menu, reserve a suitable area of the restaurant and the staff were attentive on the night. Bringing out our cake with a sparkler following a theatrical PA announcement was a nice touch. The restaurant was also considerate regarding concerns about the size of portions, offering naan and daal as side dishes. No one came away feeling hungry. All in all, a good experience. Thanks for taking care of us. See you again soon.
MoreNot living in South London I carefully researched the available Indian restaurants open on a Monday night (31/10and chose Babur because of the reviews although not my first choice as a number of closer restaurants were closed Monday evening. I was taking an old friend who lives in France and staying in Norwood who particularly wanted Indian food as he cannot get it where he is in France, so it was important to have a good dinner.I eat a lot in "modern" Indian restaurants as I like that style of modern Indian cooking. However we found the flavouring and spicing of the starters (we shared 4insipid. It was like an English restaurant playing at Indian food rather than an Indian restaurant having the confidence to produce distinctive but not over spiced dishes. The coastal mutton which was singled out in another review as being superb, was stringy and overcooked to the point that I only ate a few pieces and then just the sauce. My friend had the lamb shank that was again stringy. With 4 beers the bill came to £114 plus service (which was good which is why there are 3* not two).A very disappointing experience when it could have been very good.
MoreThis was a really lovely occasion for a birthday party. The tasting menu for a big party was a great choice. The flavours are amazing and everything is very well thought through in terms of presentation etc. Food was excellent although if you enjoy large portions you should look at the take away menu.
MoreBrilliant service for my husbands 40th for our group of 20. Fabulous food and just a great place to eat.
MoreIndian food but one step up. Not pretentious at all though. We introduced our little ones to Babur this week and had a great feed at the Sunday buffet.
MoreAmazing Indian food. Went for my birthday and the service was brilliant.
Had a wonderful time over dinner. The food is really nice. The vegetarian options are a bit limited though. The ambiance is very nice. The place can get busy so reservation is highly recommended. They also have a Sunday buffet lunch which is very reasonably priced. Overall one of the best places in London for Indian cuisine.
MoreI am a big Indian food fan but this was literally my best experience of Indian Food so far. Decoration and ambience was just right. All of the foods were outstanding with beautiful fusion touches.Their cocktails are very interesting and professionally done!My only criticism would be about the service which could be faster, kinder and more attentive.
MoreWe have enjoyed more than 20 years of good meals at the Babur, always with good service
MoreFriendly welcoming staff, lovely atmosphere with delicious food! Can’t wait to go back to try different dishes 🙂
MoreThe food here is amazing, absolutely top tier! But I went here with my disabled nan and staff werent able to accommodate for her disability.
MoreSuperb quality food here, gorgeous white negroni cocktail with complex Christmassy flavours, delicious biryani with aubergine. Lamb chops also highly recommended. Memorable and romantic. Tent a friendly and special occasion atmosphere although a bit cold now the weather has turned.
MoreAlways enjoy dinner at Babur - the ambience is always lovely even in the new tented are in the garden. Food is excellent and good service.
More37th Anniversary Tasting Menu was delicious. Services was excellent, everyone very helpful and friendly. The only Indian restaurant I ever eat at or get deliveries from for last 20+ years.
MoreExcellent food and happy to pay more than the standard Indian for the quality. Unfortunately had to knock off a star as the wait for food was too long. Worth trying but avoid peak times.
MoreVisited again. Staff and food and cocktails excellent as always.Tried the tasting menu. Fantastic. Chef really helpful. We had 2 veggie plus 1 with a wheat intolerance which they happily a accommodated.
MoreHonestly, the best Indian I’ve been to, and I’ve been to quite a few.Been coming here for more than 10 years and they’ve maintained such a high standard. My favourite Indian.
MoreJust outstanding! The curry leaf cocktail set the tone and it was upwards from there. 😃Cant recommend highly enough👍
MoreReally good food at Babur as always. Beautifully presented and wonderful service. The cocktails are fantastic too!
MoreI came alone and although the starter were nice, i was treated as though i was invisible. The tables of families around me were constantly cleaned and catered for, staff asking if all is good, while i was completely ignored, no one even making eye contact with me. The menu doesn’t feel genuine, they had no traditional curries such as madras. Popadom sauces are no exception. Although the food is nice, the menu is vague and didn’t explain that my expensive order includes only rice, no curry. Damn near £15 for a pot of rice.
MoreEverytime we come here we are always surprised by the amazing food options. You cant go wrong with picking this restaurant. Excellent service and quality of food all the time.
MoreExcellent experience having the anniversary tasting menu at Babur. Every course was delicious and the service was impeccable. The real stars of the show were the unique cocktails and crisp wine. Special shout out to to the birthday performer!
MoreHad a meal at Babur for my birthday. Fantastic restaurant would 100% recommend going if your looking for a special Indian dining experience.
MoreIt was my first time eating at Babur and I was not disappointed. I read the reviews before attending do I had a good idea of what to expect. As you enter the restaurant you are met with plagues and awards which is encouraging.Once seated we had poppadoms and the wsiter described all the dips sauces which was nice.I had a mojito and my husband a large Corba. He had scallops and I had 2 pieces of lamb.Main was Venison and Chicken.Overall it was a brilliant eveving and we added a £20.0 tip. Service and food was exceptional.
MoreCertainly not your average local curry house! Strange to see a south Asian restaurant with all white customers.... Hard to describe the food - very stylish, and mains you are unlikely to get elsewhere. We had vegetarian starters, which were quite bland, and I found myself adding the papadom chutneys, just to get flavour. My vegetarian thali was very good, and very filling. One thing to be aware of - this place is very expensive.
MoreAbsolutely love Babur! The menu is sophisticated and each time Ive been I could not fault the food or service. The cocktail booklet (for it is a book and not just a one page menu!is interesting with seasonal specials and the prices are also decent for the area. Could not recommend this restaurant enough!
MoreThe food is sooo Good .its a different type of Indian Restaurant. There service are friendly I can say best Indian restaurants in London. Must be try the lamb chops .
MoreI love the Babur! I have been eating there for over twenty years especially for birthdays (I had over 30 adults and children for my recent significant birthdayalthough its great to just go there for an evening out. The food is just amazing and not like anywhere else. Theres a great atmosphere and the staff are really lovely and always welcoming. Give the Babur a try, youll be glad you did!!!
MoreDisappointed with the overall experience..We went for a buffet on Sunday and below are our take aways1. Less No.of.items across the menu2. Hardly anything to see across Veg section3. Sea food was a Disappointment .4. Dessert is not included in the buffet (Big surprise)5. Chicken items were good .
MoreDefinitely authentic flavours but small portion sizes.
Birthday dinner for my wife. Great food. I like the feel of the restaurant. They do an assortment of complimentary taster through out the meal. The quality of the food is high. Flavours are on point. Book to avoid disappointment. There is no retainer charged for booking which I appreciate. Text keep you up to date and reminds you.
MoreQuality Indian restaurant in heart of South East London. Food is beautifully cooked and everything clean and on point. They are attentive, polite, quick. Food was fresh and very tasty and not to mention this place looks like a wedding venue in the back. Beautiful, beautiful!!! Cannot wait to go back.
MoreFood was superb, cocktails as good as 5 star hotels on park lane. Service was friendly. Very happy to have this pocket of Indian magic near where we live. We don’t go often enough.
MoreHaving been recommended by numerous people to try this place out - we went as a family and the food was great. We were shown to our table by a friendly member of staff. The table was right at the very back - by the door to the kitchen. It wasn’t too bad but next time all add a note to my reservation to avoid that spot. We had to ask for a wine menu and weren’t given much time to decide our main course - but having said that it was 9pm and perhaps it was a busy night. There was a good atmosphere with lots of customers as almost every table was occupied. The meal arrived in good time and everyone enjoyed what they had ordered. It might be worth knowing that the ‘hotness’ of each dish is indicated by 1 or 2 tigers on the menus. We found that even the dishes without an indication were reasonably hot. I’d perhaps ask the waiter for the mildest dish next time, rather than relying on the indications on the menus. But that is just personal preference!Thank you for an enjoyable experience. For 5*’s - the waiting staff would have to be a little calmer and friendlier.
MoreIndian food done beautifully. Initially I was skeptical about the food, but can I say that I was proven soo wrong. THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. AMBIENCE WAS WELCOMING, STAFF ALSO FRIENDLY TOO. BROCKLEY RISE LOCAL...
MoreLocal gem. Family have been going to Babur since they opened in ‘85.Wonderful food and amazing service. Great cocktails (and mocktails!too.Chilli cheese naan might just be the best I’ve ever had!
MoreFood and wine excellent, service friendly and efficient, and a great atmosphere. Were infrequent visitors to the Babur, but have been going since the 90s. The food is wonderful - interesting and well presented starters, and main courses you wont find in any normal UK Indian restaurant - no base sauce plus chicken/lamb/tofu/prawns options here. The food is prepared with care and attention, and is delicious. There are pescatarian, diary free, vegetarian and vegan options, and the menu is available online. The interior was revamped several years ago and is now bare brick, but has a warm intimate feel. We were lucky enough this time to be seated in the summer marquee, which reminded me pleasantly of a wedding reception. We were in the last sitting, and were served promptly, after a slight wait for a table.Starters are around £8, mains £16, wine from £24 upwards (check out the bin ends section of the wine list for good wine at good prices), and cocktails around £9.Covid precautions were in place, with staff wearing gloves and masks, and a sanitiser at the entrance, but restaurant dining is an inherently risky business if you want to avoid catching it (or infecting others). Chairs and tables were being wiped after use, but Im not sure if the surfaces were getting the sanitiser for the minimum time the solutions need for them to work.
MoreAmazing food and ambiance. Would really recommend coming here. We had a great time and cant wait to come back and try out more of the dishes!
MoreCosy, classy atmosphere. Fantastic Indian food with a lot of unique dishes and wine pairings provided. The mixed drinks are strong and delicious. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
MoreAn exciting Indian flavour experience. We had the 5 course tasting menu with matched wines. Absolutely fabulous!
MoreIncredible food. Indian food taken to another level. It wont disappoint. Obviously the price is in relation to the high quality.
MoreThe service, menu choice and food were all good. Id say the only criticism is the interior looks dated and does not suit an award winning. Nice to go to a fine dining restaurant that is it not in central London.
MoreA real gem of a place. Authentic dishes with an twist of originality. The 4 course taster menu is a delight with accompanying wine(s). Had to cave in and extend to 5 courses for dessert with liquor, what a good decision and a truly remarkable finish to a splendid meal/evening. Known about this place for 10 years wished i hadnt taken so long...to enter. Wont be long before we go back ☺️. On a par with famous chef names for me Gordon Ramsey etc. Super 🤗 effort team!!
MoreOh what a place! Delicious food, great mood and very very friendly staff! Do not hesitate to book a table! Perfect for dates or small groups.
MoreService was second to none, very attentive without being at all over-the-top. We each ordered the vegetarian thali, all components of which were delicious, cocktails and wine - both lists were extensive and we were very happy with the choices we made. If youre looking for a slightly more upscale Indian dining experience, Babur is highly recommended.
MoreWow! What an amazing gem of a restaurant. Possibly the best Indian food Ive had. Highly recommend a visit.
