Baalbeck Temple - Tourist attraction in Tripoli, Lebanon
The temples are amazing ! It is the roman civilisation inside the Bekaa of Lebanon! A lot of history. Bigger than the Acropolis of Greece and one of the most biggest roman temples of the world!
It is an amazing place, a must see👍.We will definitely come back soon, maybe for a #goluxury event or for the 2024 #goluxurysummertour - @goluxuryofficial
Baalbek - one of the biggest and best preserved roman temples still in existence! Very impressive and humbling site. Well worth a visit but keep in mind it gets extremely hot here - honoring its Greek name Heliopolis - city of the sun.
Nothing in the world can be compared to this site nor the energy one feels. All the civilisations passed from Heliopolis and all their marks can be seen! And having survived, invasions, earthquakes and bombing in 2006. The architecture of the past era left mysteries that left the Usaiens speechless and finally they had to involve some Extra terrestrials for building the site, Hahaha!Reading bad reviews shows how some people are blind in all the possible senses! As many pointed out, indeed, once is never enough, and people go there again and again, me among any!May God protect this site from the evil hands of men!
Always coming back to this amazing site, great staff, and cool artifacts in the tunnel museum!
amazing place ever ...lil Roman that I found during my deployment in Lebanon ...
Great historical place , they should just improve the details about this magical place
Fehmi the tourist guide at Baalbeck temple.
A wonder of the world. Fascinating every time. You always learn something new. A must when in Lebanon. Best with a guide, then the stones get stories.
Fantastic experience and one Ill always remember. There is much speculation about how this ancient temple complex was built at Baalbek in Lebanon. Many people think that Aliens must have visited earth and gave us advanced technology to build such a massive structure. The reality was much more barbaric and sadly all too common in human history. It was built by 1,000s of slaves over 100s of years.I made a video with Hassan a local historian and tour guide which you can find on my YouTube channel.Hassan explained in great detail how it was actually built. He has been giving tours here for 40 years so he knows what he is talking about and not an ancient alien in sight.🤯😁👍
Amazing! Pictures do not do it justice. I will be bringing my daughter here on my next trip
Pure history, such an extraordinary place, highly recommended!
Thousands of years of history well preserved and maintained. If youve never had a guided tour I highly recommend it, even having read plenty and visited many times, a well educated guide (as available on sitecan make it that much more enjoyable and educational.
Awesome. I cannot put it into words. You have to come and see for yourself. It is very safe to come.
Much to learn about the history of Baalbek and the Libanon and much to see from the old buildings
5 STARS! UNESCO Site for a reason. You wont see anything like this anywhere else in the world. Huge and stunning. About 1.5 hour drive from Beirut - YOU HAVE TO SEE THIS WHILE IN LEBANON!!!
The most majestic and impressive roman ruins in the world.very huge and many details to see.entrance is great u pass through the hall and u notice the jupiter temple thenbu pass down the stairs to bachhus temple and a mamlouk castle then on your way out you pass underground to the temple of venus.Entrance is 10000/LL for locals and 15000 for foreigners. definetely worth the visit.
The most ancient and organized historical place in Lebanon. You have to go there to feel the history and greatness of the work done. Try to go in spring or autumn just to avoid the hot summer sun. Two museums are available with different styles and types.
Baalbecks ancient name was Heliopolis, meaning "Sun City". The local Semitic population in Phoenicia worshiped god Baʿal Haddu which was often equated with Zeus or Jupiter and was called by the locals the "Great God of Heliopolis". The Egyptians associated Baʿal with their great god Ra. Later the city acquired its name Baalbeck which Translates to the city of god Baal. The city itself shows a signs of continual habitation since 8000 to 9000 years. The temples of Baalbeck and the magnificent huge/gigantic columns represent the might of the old Roman empire. The temples encompass ruins from the Phoenicians, Roman, Arab-Islamic and Ottoman and German era (when the Emperor of Germany - which I have forgot his name - helped repair Jupiter temple and to thank him the ottoman sultan left a granite note thanking him). Jupiter temple is the biggest Roman architecture built outside Rome and is thr biggest temple ever built for the might ancient god Jupiter over the ruins of Baal temple. The details of the 12 Cesars who visited the temple together with the story of Julius Cesar and Cleopatra crafted within the walls and ceiling is quite fascinating. One starts to appreciate the magnitude of time spent to reconstruct this mighty architecture and its significance in shaping the politics in Rome. I highly recommend to take the guided tour with an expert. I took it twice and I always learned more than what I studied from text books. Dont forget to visit the museum in the tunnel and the pregnant stone. The story behind the pregnant stone, the name and its discovery is as fascinating as the site itself. Tip: ask the locals and the local shop near it about it, its half of the fun. If you visit Lebanon, you have to visit Baalbeck temple, otherwise its an incomplete visit. Some photos are tagged as: © Rami Rizk (Twitter: @rami_rizk). You cannot be Lebanese and say you have not seen the Baalbeck temple also you cannot say you visited Lebanon and say you did visit this amazing Roman and other eras temple.
Baalbek, also called Heliopolis, is a spectacular archaeological site in northeastern Lebanon. From the 1st century BC and over a period of two centuries, the Romans built three temples here: Jupiter, Bacchus and Venus. Created to be the largest temple in the Roman empire, the temple of Jupiter was lined by 54 massive granite columns. Only 6 of these titanic columns remain standing but even they are incredibly impressive. The best preserved temple at the site is the Temple of Bacchus built in 150 AD. The temple is 69 meters long and 36 meters wide. Its walls are adorned by 42 Corinthian columns, 19 of which remain upright in position standing 19 meters (62 feethigh.
The best Roman temple in the world!
I have been to Rome and seen ruins there but Baalbek was 100 times better. Although the colosseum in Rome is unmatched to anything else in the world, the temples at Baalbek are very well preserved and well taken care of. You can actually walk among the giant columns. It is so photogenic. Take comfortable shoes and lots of water. Absolutely stunning place. The tunnel with all the artefacts was full of information. Easy to spend 1 hour just reading and learning about the place. So proud of the Lebanese people working hard to protect and preserve this place. Keep it up. This is a must visit for anyone visiting Lebanon. Absolutely Gorgeous place. The price to get in is not too much. There are tour guides there for a reasonable sum of money.
Wonderdul ancient Roman engineering. Unbelievable how these temple made by humans in 2000BC. Worth visiting the ruins. Recommend to take a guided tour while visiting, otherwise u may miss the stories behind.
Very nice, exelant experience
One of our favorite places to show Lebanon off to tourists!
Hands down the best historical landmark Ive visited and would go so far as to say that its a must see when in Lebanon - the immense scale of these structures is breathtaking and something Im not sure Id see anywhere else in the world.Thoroughly recommend Joe (Pub Crawl Beirut, Google himsince he was kind enough to drive us there as part of a day tour and didnt feel unsafe at all while we were there at the time of writing.
Never miss a visit to this place .... we are talking about a temple 2000 B.C.... The stones alone have their own story and magic .... i would suggest to offer more guiding services other than the existing guides ....
Probably the best historic site I’ve ever visited. If you’re in Lebanon then you really must come to Baalbek! Buses are fairly simple and good value to sort from Cola station.
A landmark of Roman architecture in the Near East. The monumental columns of the temple of Jupiter are one of the largest in the world. The temple of Bacchus is in a state of exceptional preservation. A glimpse of the glory and power of one of the greatest empires in the world.
Perfect Rome temple. Charming view. Amazing history. And the story of this temple in this city since ages till now. Youll enjoy. You cant visit lebanon without passing by this peefect place here. Better to visit it during summer because its cold weather even at summer.
A place not to miss in Lebanon! I spent 5 hours enjoying it. It should have a better signage system. I had a problem finding each temple is which on the map. 10.000LBP for a Lebanese citizen, which is not much for such a place. It is really magical!
If you come to Lebanon but dont see Baalbek, then its like you didnt actually come to Lebanon. Thats what my private guide said, and have to agree. I had been in Lebanon for three days before coming here, and seeing this made everything else (Tyre, Sidon, Byblosalmost irrelevant.
An exceptionally beautiful historical place. Went there twice - the first time spent with the guide 4 hours there. Second time a quick tour with the family for 2 hours ans atill amazing. Having the guide really makes all the difference. Just be aware of the vendors in front of the temple who will be very eager to sell you all kinds of junk.
The old Baalbeck city has been very well preserved, and its so inspiring to explore the temples. Although Bachus and Jupiter are by far the most popular temples, theres plenty of others worth exploring. Since Baalbeck is in Bekaa, its surrounded by mountains so the backdrop is always interesting - whether its Tannourine mountain or the Anti-Lebanon mountains. Spring is a special time to visit, plenty of greens, temples framing the snow remaining on the mountains, and before the city of the sun heats up.
Great place, you dont need a guide. There is signs all over The temple.
Simply amazing! 3 temples a small citadel of Roman wonders take about 2 hours to have a proper roam around. Read about it in detail before u visit to understand what you are looking at. If you are an antiquity nerd this is paradise.
Not very often do you get to visit a place from 2000 years ago from the Roman times. They had sculptures of Medusa, Cleopatra, Marc Anthony, and many more. Definitely worth the visit!
The guide was very thorough and interesting. Although he didnt speak English well, he was very helpful and had answers to all of our questions. The site was amazingly well kept :We all loved it there. Although we only spent about an hour there it was totally worth it. Dont forget to have "sfiha", the traditional Baalbeck street food.
The largest and most glorious Roman temples ever built, they are also among the best preserved. Today, the ruins are the site of the Baalbek International Festival, which attract artists and performance groups from around the world.
Great place to visit and learn about this epic historical site. I highly suggest going with the tour guide for the complete experience. Im giving it 4 stars because of the area where its situated.... if it wasnt for the army presence in not sure I would have felt as safe
No words can describe the splendor of the Heliopolis. I come here very often and still i m awestruck each time i visit the ruins.
A must see if youre visiting Lebanon. Even-though you can drive to the city if Baalbek from Beirut, I recommend taking a tour bus with a guide. The guide Lela explain the history of the three temples.
Probably the biggest roman archeological site in the region. Its a must see place at least once in a persons lifetime.
This place is spectacular! Very few tourists, you can wander around with ease.
Breathtaking archeological site #1 in Lebanon

Amazing, breathtaking- the scale is unbelievable! Definitely worth seeing
