Ba Bar University Village - Vietnamese restaurant in Seattle, United States
I was charged the wrong amount (someone from the staff swiped my card for the wrong check), then I was charged again for the correct one. I asked a manager to cancel first payment and print out cancelation confirmation or place refund. He said that he can’t print it but he took my phone number to send me confirmation. I didn’t receive anything from him and next day I saw two payments on my card. I called to Ba Bar and explained the situation, they took my number to pass it over to the manager to call me back. And surprise - he didn’t call me. I opened a bank dispute to get my money back. Looks like Ba Bar management don’t really care about payment issues at all.
Ba Bars U Village location is a cute blue dot on the less busy side of the street. The food looks and tastes fresh and is actually on the healthy side. Soup noodles were delicious - our table ordered the curry noodles and pho ga tron. While the curry flavor was pleasant, I thought the pho could use more meat and quickly turned into a mass of noodles that overwhelmed the soup.Dont sleep on the salads here. They are all fresh and vibrant. The shrimp salad was a favorite of mine. It has the sweetness youd expect from pineapple and slight pungency from the fish sauce. The saigon wings are not bad if you like a sweet wing. The star for me is the vermicelli combos with chicken and rotisserie meats. All of it was cooked perfectly and tasted great, especially with the provided dipping sauce. The rockfish surprised me with how good it was.For dessert, it was pandan passionfruit cake. Who doesnt love pandan? Bit dry, but still great 👍🏼I love this spot! Its cute and trendy and the service was quick and friendly.
Solid lunch spot. Food is great, service somewhat wanting.
I love this place! The cocktails and the food are delicious. This is one of my new favorite places to go.
Amazing food and fairly priced. Everything we ordered was tasty and delicious. The duck leg was so tender and juicy, and the broth was exceptional.
Nice food, the Vietnamese Iced Coffee is a must try 👍
Cant say enough good things about Ba Bar!!! I crave their chicken vermicelli noodles all the time. The ingredients are always super fresh and HUGE portions. Ive been to their Capitol Hill location a few times, and SLU. Theyre all super similar and consistent. One of my favorite places if you want some decently healthy food with tons of flavor.Highly recommend the chicken wings and imperial rolls on the appetizer menu!! Or the Pho, or vermicelli noodles.
Beautiful decorations and good food.
Great flavor and gluten free options (rice or sweet potato noodles )! Not celiac safe but I’ve never had a problem with my gluten intolerance. Cute vibe in u village. Portions are large for noodle plates! This was a special I got in the picture the regular noodles bowls are bigger:)
Amazing vermicelli. Got the combo.Loved it. Hands down Recommend.Nice vibes, I would definitely visit again.Sat outside, enjoyed the last of the summer sun.
Great place to hang after work with a cold smoothie and FISH SAUCE WINGS!!!11/10 I’ll eat here again! So good :)
Delicious food! So many gluten free options I was overwhelmed trying to pick something.
We enjoyed our lunch, good food and good service.
Loved what we ordered:_ Garlic Butter Prawn_ Chicken Rice_ Beef VermicelliThe interior of the establishment is quite nice, but since takeout was what we went for no comment on any dine-in experience. We love to go back and wine and dine the next time around!
DON’T COME TO THIS PLACE!!! The worst experience ever for dining in a restaurant. First time to be charged of mandatory “large party” fee without any proper service and no reminder at the first. The manager is also so rude and could just repeat it’s a policy but have no explanation of their poor service. We was a party of two at first and then met some friends. My friend (a family of three adults and one small kidwants to sit next to me so we can chat. The waiter didn’t help anything and even not providing water bottles or chairs. The restaurant was pretty empty at that time. But in the end we were suddenly told to pay for 20% of large party fee for altogether 5 adults and 1 small kids and we didn’t even order together. Such a ridiculous restaurant.
So, we r a family of 5. We have been to Babar hundred times at Uvillage. In the last month we went to Babar and Monsoon and in both occasions 2 family members ended up with food poisoning :/ pretty bad. There is something in your supply chain causing problems or something because we have never experienced food issues with neither of your restaurants. We will take a 3 month break and hopefully you ll figure this out. Feel free to reach out if you want more details
Just ok. Food was just ok. Service was meh. Presentation of the vegetation vermicelli was great but the taste was meh. Prices were on the higher end. The ambiance was good. Wouldnt go here again.
We went for dinner w/o reservations. We asked for inside tables, and put our name on the list. Then we proceeded to wait, while the next 12 parties behind us got seated immediately. We asked if we could sit in the bar, but the hostess told us it was not open. So we stood in front of the entry of the restaurant, 5 ft away from the host. After 30 minutes—where we were the only people to still be waiting for a table, we checked in with the host for the second time. She acted like she didn’t know who we were, even tho we had been waiting for a table not 5 ft away from her for the last 30 minutes! We told her the name again, and she said it would be about ten minutes. She kept saying that. Another 15 minutes later, we checked in, Again: she acted surprised to see us. She asked if she could help us??!! We told her our name, again. She looked on her console and said the table wasn’t ready. We checked in again 15 minutes later by text, and finally she told us that they had a table ready. We left the store next door—which actually had AC—and returned to the restaurant. Only to find that they seated us-3 people-in a tight little spot that was really meant for two people. There were at least 4 other larger tables available in that immediate section. WHAT FANTASTIC SERVICE! About 15 minutes after we received our food, we were told it was last call, kitchen was closing. I’m surprised they didn’t make us wait for another 30 minutes. Then they could’ve saved the kitchen staff some trouble cooking our meal. Of course, it was really the host who was put out: she had to spend the entire evening staring at a console!
Love this location. Outdoor dining area is great and the service and food options are just as good as the original location. Cocktails are always on point and the menu is on point- always!
Great food at decent price. Waitress was very good. It is a nice location and enjoyable restaurant.
It was raining, good pho night. It is pricy but nicer normal pho. The brisket and round beef were good, not tough, soup has good flavor. They do use MSG. The service was good, waited 15 mins for table. It is not as authentic but don’t expect to be.
For my first visit. It was ok. I’m rating 4/5 because the restaurant is gorgeous and goes through different themes year round. However customer service was decent. Not terrible but not superb. Food was ok compared to other places I’ve been to. Prices are fair. I’d definitely give it another shot and try their lunch perhaps but the dish I ordered the beef pho was decent
Very tasty Vietnamese food in uvillage. Just dont recommend the eggplant starter.
Ok, WOW. Their rotisserie chicken is the best chicken Ive had second only to the chicken at Pair, which has closed. Dont sleep on this place! The taste and quality of their food does not disappoint.
Nice Vietnamese restaurant simple. Mid price. Food was good. It is a bit odd to sit on the terrace amid gas containers and bins for dirty dishes.
Visiting from out of state & I am so glad we stopped here for dinner! All staff was very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious! Crystal, our server, was very attentive. Definitely will be back.
Good pho, even better coffee. No games good food and nice service. 4 star for currying being out.
Love this spot for cocktails! The food is good, but I wish there was a bit more variety. Maybe they just dont have all my favorite Vietnamese foods... Cocktails are 👌
Their pho is very good, but if pho is what you want there are any number of places that do it better. That said, theres plenty of unique dishes and drinks that are great here.My table split an order of their wing appetizer. The wings were small but very tasty. For my entree, I ordered the imperial combo pictured below. It tasted as amazing as it looks. I had a hard time picking what I wanted because all the photos on the menu looked so good. Overall my table was very pleased with their dishes. Service was also very friendly and prompt
Took my wife out on a dinner date for the first time in two years. I was really apprehensive but she deserved a really nice night out and it was a good time to go.The staff wore masks and even politely encouraged us to wear them when they walked through the main dining area to the outside, COVERED dining section. This was the first day of the lifted mask mandate and they still felt our and their safety was priority one. Once outside, they had heat lamps and the tables were spaced generously apart. It was a great experience, even in a time of COVID.Not every restaurant can replicate this experience. I understand that. If a business can do it, do it. Youll start getting patrons by those of us who are still cautious.
Good food, nice Lunar New Year and Valentine decorations. They have a few vegetarian options. The server took our orders without writing everything down yet he got everything correct. Wish they had boba tea too.
Nice ambience and services, the Pho a bit on the bland while portions and fillings are as expected, springrolls are delicious and crispy.
Always incredible! I’ve been to the Capitol Hill location a few times and this location is a bit larger and more open, it also has outdoor seating with heaters and is located in UVill. Great decor and has a warm, vibrant feeling inside. Highly recommend the Phở Gà Trộn, the noodles were thick and so delicious. I was in heaven! The lemongrass soda is also tasty and refreshing.
Upscale Vietnamese restaurant. Decent selection of food. Bakery is also there to satisfy sweet tooth. I had rock fish vermicelli bowl and it was very good. Their spring rolls are the best. A bit pricy but quality of the food is good.I am adding one more star because I have not had bad food here after coming here many times.
Food was average. I think I’m not a fan of the flavours, so the food was pretty bland for my family and I. I’m also not a fan of sweet sauces in chicken wings. The Pho also was average- it’s surprising that their website says ‘Best pho in Seattle’. It’s good but I wouldn’t say ‘the best’. Ambiance and service was amazing. Dessert ran out so we couldn’t order the passion fruit cake. And I agree with the other reviews- we ordered the noodles and literally only 2 pieces of shrimp came with it. For someone who enjoys this cuisine, I’m sure it’s amazing. Just doesn’t work with my taste buds!
Drinks were good but the food was average - got a shrimp dish and there were barely 2 shrimp on the plate. Overall nice atmosphere but better for a drink spot
We stopped in for lunch and were impressed. It was hard to choose between the vermicelli bowl, pho, or a salad. Ended up going with the chicken vermicelli and highly recommend it. I can’t wait to return to try some of the other dishes.
I wanted to treat myself to a nice lunch today so I stopped at Ba Bar in University Village. The coffee which I believed was called a Vietnamese coffee was absolutely delicious. The woman, who’s name I cannot recall, was welcoming and helpful! She took my order and suggested the coffee. Which again was delicious! Anyhoo, I ordered the Chicken Vermicelli Noodles and it was tasty! I enjoyed my lunch very much! The price is on the higher end for my budget but it was totally worth it. Will eat here again!Picture shows empty coffee and empty food box. Happy tummy!
Great atmosphere! Neat modern/vintage mashup of decor and vibe. Great cocktails! Yay Bees is a fav of mine so far. Vegetarian fresh rolls were so delightful and fresh. The rotisserie duck was delicious add the fried egg for more protein and flavor.
Awesome Vietnamese spot in Uvillage! Although everything is a bit pricey, the food is amazing! A mix of authenticity and modern interpretations on the dishes, accompanied by great friendly service makes this one of the best Vietnamese spots Ive been to. Plus, food came quickly after we ordered
Came in on a late Friday night, they are open till 1 and they have late happy hour which was convenient. We got coconut daiquiris, we all loved them, they are on the sweet side. We also got some fries and the crispy imperial rolls, also good.We liked the service as well.
Very nice environment! I love this spicy soup, lots of flavors, plenty of meat in there. The service was a little bit slow but overall it’s a good experience.
Whats bánh cuốn? I dont know. However I saw it on the menu and thought I had to try it. It was a good decision. The grilled pork belly and herbs were great to go along with the steamed rice sheets. This place has some good vegan options too. The vegan pho both had a great umami flavor.
As anticipated, not authentic as its name. Strolling through U Village, we walked pass the wooden sign of Vietnamese “Street Food” Ba Bar, with promo of happy hour 3-6pm. We have a hunch of over hyped “street food” and price, but decided to try out HH and experience for ourselves. Unfortunately, HH is only in the bar with a drink minimum. No matter, the menu descriptions look promising, with actual Vietnamese titles and the descriptions in English. The place has very nice ambience, the bar side is mostly filled with HH diners. It was an early dinner, and we still waited a bit to be seated – one waiter/host, not so friendly, perhaps over worked. On our table, a bottle of sriracha sauce (a plus), hoisin sauce, small bottle of water, and glasses with napkin and chopsticks in them. However, if they have a tray of spice, pickle condiments, this would bring you completely back to the “street food” memories. The waiter barely knows how to pronounce the menu items, though he tried. Cơm tấm bì, or broken rice is dried, bì are slices of pig skin, not a complete bì ingredients, the grilled pork has nicely grill lines, salty but dried and a hint of sweetness, the only that was right is the small dipping bowl of nước mắm, fish sauce. Good thing we opted out the recommended extra egg ($2.50). Phở gà trộn (mix chicken Phở, dry noodle, not in a brothwas not as I imagined: the image of a bowl of Phở with steam chicken mix in veggie/cabbage, with dipping ginger nước mắm sauce. The bowl came out in a nice presentation, slight wide noodle quickly stir fried with its own flavoring, somewhat like phad thai, the chicken baked in its own spice, great individual preparation, but in the bowl combination, it over powering the palates with saltiness, especially not enough bean sprouts nor veggie to change your taste buds. Both dished came with a cup of Phở broth. The broth has Phở seasoning but a bit salty, and not hot enough to sip, to change your palates. We can’t imagine having Phở with this broth but most likely it is served. We had another dish but it’s pretty much the similar review, nice presentation but salty to taste. Perhaps these are catered for the bar diners, they will have drinks to compliment the flavorings. Well, our waiter walked passed us many time but failed to refill our small bottle of water. We have a nut allergy with us and requested to have peanuts on the side, but was not done as requested. Well, Ba Bar is not for us, not for those who seek authentic “street food”, perhaps for bar diners who don’t have the opportunity to authentic “street food”. A no return for us. There are other better Vietnamese or noodle options in the area.
The food is okay. Sure it is not mainstream Vietnamese which is of course accounted for, but the flavors were dual and the textures were monotonous! It could have been what was ordered but still over all not that impressed. The environment was loud and distracting, I wish I could have said the same about the flavors.
A nice place for a taste of Vietnam. It does get a little loud but think of it as mood sounds for street food. Highlights would be the Banh Cuon or steamed rice rolls (eat then while its hot!and the sausage. I suggest sharing the small plates so that you can taste more items!
GREAT PLACE for food and drinks! Our waitress gave us recommendations and they were awesome! Loved the atmosphere! Tables were clean and comfortable. Families with children were also there so it was a friendly crowd!
100% have to visit this restaurant. Service was excellent. Atmosphere was great. Food was cooked perfectly and oh so tasty. Top notch Vietnamese cuisine. I chose the combo vermicelli bowl and was not disappointed. Tasty tasty tasty!😋😋😋
Very delightful happy hour menu! Great selection of small plates & cocktails. The beef & chicken skewers we had were great...pickles veggies & noodles were a nice combo.
Great new location to one of my favorite restaurants! The food is fantastic: great ingredients, authentic flavors, and a modern approach have made everything Ive eaten here wanting more! My favorites are the rotisserie duck and the prawn bun bowl but there are few things on the menu that arent great. Also, the prices are very reasonable (especially for Seattleand will allow you to try lots of different items!A word of advice: go early because they fill up fast!
