Buzzy, narrow Belgian pub serving various moules frites & other classic eats, plus native beers.
Great brunch food. The croque madame was tasty and the fries it came with were fried perfectly. The liege waffle came with tons of fruit and were a perfect dessert complement. One complaint is that everything is pretty pricey (even a cup of coffee, while large is 7$ which is more than one more an actual cafe). But would come back if in a big group - around noon on a Saturday seating was easy to get.
Beer selections, ambience and food are exceptional. I live so close and only just visited for the first time. Totally going to be my local from now. Just go, you won’t regret it !
Love this place! Big fan of both this location as well as the BXL in times square, but I can confidently say this location is much more comfortable to eat at. Food is delicious (leans savoryand the draft beers pair extremely well. Share the mussels and get an entree; all of them are good, but I definitely recommend the puff pastry and steak tips!
Waitress is very friendlyOeufs Florentine brunch ordered is a great choice
Delicious muscles and frits. Belgium waffle for dessert is a must have. Amazing selection of Belgium beers 😁
Bone marrow was delicious. Moules frite were on point. Belgian waffle was the best my son has had - according to him. Cute vibe. Staff was very friendly. We’ll be back!
We have been to this place twice for dinner and to their sister restaurant near Times Square. The flemish stew is excellent. The moules are outstanding. The salmon is wonderful. The service is friendly. The atmosphere is relaxed and yet there seems to be a steady stream of regulars. The beer list is everything you would expect from a Belgian specialty restaurant! We will return again and again.
Quaint Belgian bar with a great menu and decent selection of draft beer.
The food is good, the drinks are good, the restaurant is roomy but the atmosphere isn’t is. I’ve been multiple times to the location next to Time Square which apparently is run by the same people. The location in Time Square is super welcoming and friendly. The bartenders will talk to you, joke with you. (Don’t confuse my comments for overly chatty people who get in your business when you’re talking with someoneAt this location I guess they don’t feel that they are opened for customers but more for their little group of friends. I’m belgian and my first language is french. I went there to experience a little of home however this place is not warm to customers. The bartender will serve you your drink or food, barely acknowledge your existence. By that I mean that if you ask for something he won’t reply with “no problem I’ll get that for you” or something similar he’ll just walk away. Sure you’ll get what you ask for and that’s why I’m not giving 1 stars. After he serves everyone he’ll will go talk to his group of friends/boss/waiters I don’t even know who works at this location or doesn’t. I’ve been there twice and I had the same experience twice. I won’t recommend this place to friends and I will keep going to the Time Square location where the people are very lovely and the food menu is the same anyway.
Hands down, the best moules I have ever had in NYC. Went there with a party of six for a birthday, and they were incredibly accommodating to put us at a round table as requested. Wait staff was absolutely wonderful. You will not be disappointed!
Came in with some colleagues great atmosphere and solid beverage selection. The food was amazing but we were short on time and the food took awhile. Obviously you cant rush quality and maybe we should have told the server we were in a rush, but We arrived prior to the lunch rush. Definitely worth checking out but make sure you have at least a couple hrs to spare.
Delicious steak and eggs to start a beautiful summer day
In town from San Diego where Bitterballen are nowhere to be found. So I got my ‘fix’ here. Belgian fries with mayonnaise, delicious Bitterballen and a Stella. Almost as good as being in the motherland again. ☺️
The service was great, the wine & food were excellent. Quaint intimate restaurant with great food. I had the shrimp croquettes and the roasted salmon...exceptional. Sauv Blanc & Oyster King Lorre Valley wine. Great Saturday meal. Thank You Brennan & Sébastien
Some of the best Belgian beers on tap and the food is equally amazing!
Salad Cesar smelled fishy and the lettuce was not fresh. The wings was also so hard, it was either overcooked or old. I also ordered fries and did not get it. I did not like the atmosphere either, it looked dark and dull and smelled strange.
Great main dishes &waffle!
Proper Belgian place. Amazing croquette and Bitterballen. Great staff.
We really liked the steak sandwich. The beef stew was only okay. A bit dry and too small.
The mussels were good but the service was HORRIBLE! We walked in and before giving us the menu, before saying hi/welcome the man said ‘you have to eat your meal before my dinner service starts at 6’ - meanwhile it was 4pm. It was soooo rude I was ready to leave. The only reason we went to the restaurant was because a dear friend who died by suicide used to love mussels and we went in his honor. Otherwise I would have turned right around… we ate the mussels enjoyed our meal and on our way out another diner had a dog INSIDE the restaurant growled at my 5 year old nephew and lunged at him. My nephew was scared and jumped back - no one came to see if he was ok. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS BUSINESS.
The family and I loved it. The food was quality, fresh and everyone thought it was fantastic. And the Belgian beer selection was strong.
Amazing relaxing atmosphere. Great food. Loved the onion soup and burgers. Very courteous hosts.
I was out in the city with two friends just looking for a place to get lunch. We walked past this place, checked out the menu posted outside, and it looked good. We walked in to get a table and immediately saw that the hostess coming to greet us wasnt wearing a mask! So we left. Would not recommend coming here during a pandemic. Food selection seemed good though.
My family and I are visiting NYC! We had some time before my cousins bridal appointment and happened to stumble upon this place and figured why not try it. The French onion soup was SO. GOOD. I can’t even put into words how delicious it was. The vibe in the restaurant was super cute and our waitress was very polite and sweet. My cousin & I each had the beyond burger, which was very tasty as well! Next time I visit NYC I will definitely come back
As a Belgian, I appreciate this restaurant a lot because it brings the flavors from home to the US. I would really recommend the authentic dishes!
Me, my best friend, mom and mother in law stopped to eat here after wedding dress shopping and it was SOOO DELICIOUS. The place is super cute and the service was great. The salads, soups, eggs, lobster, sandwiches. We had everything lol and eating at this restaurant just added More to my already special day. Wish I took more pictures of the food.
Incredible food, incredible staff, and a nice place to hang out for a while. Highly highly recommend the French onion soup!!!
very delicious mussels, ordered the moules frites BXL Provencale, the soup/sauce is too good to leave behind. also had the sirloin steak perfectly done at medium rare. service was good, didnt need to wait a long time for a table without reservation; servers were quite attentive, and tables were nicely distanced. always liked this place, but this time around I love it even more.
a bad workplace. I worked there. And the owner didnt send me my check a month ago and he got mad at me. the day I left. I didnt want it to be for my check and he hasnt sent it to me in over a month.duty manager. klaas
Trust me! They have the best moules frites and liege waffle in town. I was speechless. It also came with an excellent service
Great service, food, and an excellent beer selection. Can’t recommend enough
Service was fantastic! Food was good! The steak was nicely cooked! The mussels were good. This is great place to watch a game or to get a nice meal. Definitely recommend the steak tartare, the mussels and the filet mignon! I highly recommend this place!
Even if the food was amazing, Id come back here again and again because of the service!!! Good job guys, bravo!
One of my favorite spots in NYC. The staff is always super friendly and accommodating. I love a good Belgian beer and they have an excellent selection. Their moules frites are my favorite but in general I like everything I’ve tried. Highly recommend.
If you are looking for good Belgian comfort food, try any of the three BXL restaurants in NYC. Authentic food and a great Belgian beer list to compliment each dish.
Very nice little place. Really happening vibe. Cool people, great bar and awesome Belgium beer selection. We only had mussels, but they were good.Highly recommend for a couple of drinks and a dinner.
A very cool and intimate Belgian Restaurant in the heart of Flatiron / Chelsea neighborhood. Great service, food was scrumptious and all with a very reasonable price, especially by NYC standards. Moderate noise and the fries are very tasty, hmm hmm yummy. Would definitely visit again.
Great find in NYC. Excellent beer and lovely lunch. Super friendly staff and great service. Would definitely go back.
Pretty good Belgian place! This was my first time trying real Belgian food and I was not disappointed. The ambiance is pretty nice, has a bit of a romantic feel to it. The service was friendly and courteous and they seemed eager to please. It is a little pricey but the food is good so I would say it is worth it.I had the stewed sirloin tips under recommendation, and it was very good. The meat was very tender and the sauce was flavorful. Im generally not a fan of "stews" but this one was probably one of the better ones Ive had. I was a little bit disappointed with the fries that came with the meal however - they were just kind of soggy and not that flavorful. Not exactly bad but just bland and not very good. For dessert I had the waffle, it was pretty good. Very crunchy and the fresh whipped cream that came with it was delicious.
My last two visits to BXL have been completely disappointing. A few weeks ago I ordered the Steak Frites for lunch. Although properly seasoned, the steak was too tough and the meat cut/quality was inferior to that of my previous orders.I returned again yesterday and once again ordered the Steak Frites. Incredulously, this time the cut was much smaller than the last one. It was also much tougher and the seasoning was off. The frites were sadly greasy and soggy. The side salad was wilted and the dressing was super bland. I cant understand why or how they can allow these dishes to be served, but I refuse to continue paying for such poor dishes. On top of that the customer service was strongly lacking as the waitstaff was doting over old friends at another table. And no they were not busy during my visit. For years Ive been a loyal customer and have referred many colleagues, friends and family to their doors. This ends today.
Had a GREAT time here during the Belgium France game. What an amazing atmosphere, absolutely loved it. However it was way too busy. They should have sold tickets like 100 dollars open bar or something, with a maximum of tickets. And removed all tables and chairs. A lot of people were sitting at the bar which made it difficult to order drinks. Therefore many people didnt order. So great place, organisation during events like this can improve.
BELGIUM 🇧🇪Eat the World NYC review:First off, "Belgian Waffles" are an invention of North America, dumbed down versions of the beauties actually made in Belgium. These are gaufres, Brussels-style waffles as light as air. Almost as if air had been surrounded by batter and cooked. With melted chocolate underneath and topped with homemade whipped cream, life does not get much better. After breakfast, BXL Zoute also has plenty of Belgian beers, including a Belgian-style amber that is brewed exclusively for them by Ommegang. Dont miss the mussels here either, as if you needed reminding.
One of the best down to hearth restaurant I know, great and friendly staff, all you can eat mussels sun-mon. Superb Burger, Extended beer selection. No, I do not work there! Highly recommended. :")
What a wonderful restaurant and owner. The food was delicious (we had the Moules Frites in Vin Blanc and Crème sauce and pasta), and I dare say better than most of the Moules frites I had in my years living in Belgium! Yves and his staff were very accommodating and approachable, that we even had a wonderful conversation! It was a wonderful experience and there was not an un-eaten dish on the tables we could see. And there beer selection rivals most bars in Bruxelles. Would highly recommend!!
9.29.17 - unfortunately we only had a beer here so this review will not have anything to do with food or the wait staff. The bartender is very nice and attentive. The beers are great, too! Cant go wrong with a Chimay.
Shared the bone marrow appetizer wirh friends & loved it! Also had the special that night which was scallops and risotto. Everything we ordered tasted great! I love low-key restaurants like this!
Good selection of imported Belgian ales and tripels. Ordered their signature mussels (cream-based with endive and celery), which came with fries. Good, but nothing to write home about. One of the few places in the city that offers Bitterballens. Average service. Vibe is good, not too noisy. Has TVs at the bar for sports lovers.
Great atmosphere, specially during a Belgian soccer game. Good staff. Extensive menu with Belgian Beers and Belgian food. Yummy fries and delicious beef stew. The shrimp tarts or croquettes are better in Belgian though. As for dessert: I expect a real hot chocolate sauce (served separatelywith a Dame Blanche, not a cold little drizzle already on my vanilla ice cream when served. Nonetheless, great place!
Nice Belgian beers and charming staff that speaks French. The entrecôte was well cooked, slightly charred, but still very good. The chèvre salad was simple but surprising and tasty.
Went on a Saturday night. Definitely recommend you call ahead and reserve a table. This place gets filled up and rightfully so.This is an awesome bar! It is not very big but the atmosphere is great!Great location (right by the Museum of Sexbut unless you look for it, chances are you will miss it.For starters we got:Croquettes De FromageI am writing this review a few weeks after going so I know these were balls with cheese in them but cant remember specifics, only that they were delicious! For my meal, we both got:Hamburger BXL with Cheese, Bacon, and a Fried Egg on top.It was amazing! The fries were especially delicious.Beerwise:Cuave BXL - Belguim Amber Ale(house)Gulden Draak - Belgium Dark AleBoth good but definitely preferred the Cuave. Will be back here!
