Azucena - Restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Delicious food! Amazing family dinner place.
This is my first time at Azucena. We were informed that the menu changes every 3 weeks, which made it exciting. The food we tried tasted so fresh and amazing. I definitely appreciated the Caribbean flavor. The bartender and server were friendly and attentive. Gustavo was very patient and provided excellent service. I am quite happy overall that I stopped by for dinner. I definitely recommend this place.
I am rating this place 4 ⭐ for the following reasons;1. The menu available online is no longer available, which is the reason why we selected the place.2. There are no signs in front of the building nor on the side that identified the place as a restaurant (no hours either). To the side of the house (the restaurant is an old house remodeledthere on a wall it says "Azucena" but I thought it was for something else. We had seen the place before and we thought it was an Airbnb.3. The menu is not kids or even adult friendly. A bit complicated. I ordered a few common drinks like Michelob Ultra, Vodka & cranberry (not available). We settle for other items on the new menu and is was delicious. We expressed our views and they were thankful. Its simple and cozy but at the same time elegant restaurant. After all, we did liked it and we will return.
Cocktails were great, food was great, presentation was great, pricing was great. Great.
This is one of the most enjoyable places on the entire island for awesome food and amazing drinks. The bartender Jeffrey is one of the best mixologists Ive ever had regardless of city.
I only had cocktails at the bar but they were nicely prepared and presented.
Had a dinner here and the food was good!
Most amazing food on Pr. I would say this #1 restaurant for quality food. Highly recommend. Don’t miss the hidden place that delivers Amazing quality and service. Very rare in Pr
Kindly disregard the older reviews. They renovated and opened again several weeks ago. Taste, portion, customer service was embarrassing as an experienced foodie
Insane!!! What a perfect dinner!!! If you are looking for comfort authentic Puerto Rican cuisine with a creative twist go to Azucena. The food was amazing, the cocktails are more than perfect, soo good!!! They work with local fresh produce and the ambiance is just what you are looking for when you are in Puerto Rico. They also have a great selection of wines. It is a MUST if you want to experience the real Puerto Rican cuisine.
NOT OPEN!! Google shows this as a functioning restaurant, but it’s closed down and boarded up.
This restaurant came recommended to me by the concierge at the Marriott. I was looking for a place that my girlfriend could dress up and not be overdressed while being able to enjoy great Puerto Rican food. This place delivered on all of those points and Im glad we came. If you are looking for a decent sit down low key/nice restaurant this is the place for you. The drinks were great, the food was excellent, and the service was top notch as well.
The staff is great. The food was terrible! Meat had no flavor itself and they seemed to compensate with dressings and sauces
Myself and my man is Visiting Puerto Rico for his Birthday. He happen to look up this place because of the great reviews. So we went to see for ourselves and we enjoyed it! A must go! I will definitely come back to this place when I visit Puerto Rico again!
Limited menu. Overpriced for the service. Clean. The food is aversge.
It was definitely short-staffed but that was not the issue. The cook /chef(?was taking shortcuts. . I ordered the eggrolls with local pork and they came so super heavy in oil. Dont do that. The house made hot sauce was fantastic, dont change it, a sure keeper for those around here that crave picante! Tons of flavor. The swordfish special was sent back for two reasons...one he tried to serve me an approximate 6oz version of an 8-10 oz filet.....and then the clincher was it was so completely overdone. It was replaced and all was joyful from there on out, including the copious mezcal.cocktails . Stephen took care of me for the duration as a sole man on a mission and did an excellent job. This was lunchtime during loosening of Covid ....my sole self and a table of five and another of 3 or 4. No AC but its open and they have fans. The cocktails were phenomenal. I stayed with a great idea of a mezcal old fashioned cocktailDelicious if you cut back the sweetness and make it more spirit forward with the excellent mezcals there. I used Illegal reposado.
Visited this location without a reservation on a Thursday evening. The food was can I say excellent. I had the lobster salad the trufongo which is Mofongo with a taste of truffle oil. Outstanding Ive never tasted anything like it.Definitely a place to be visited in the in the area. You wont be disappointed. Although it looks like it could get crowded so you might want to make a reservation . The atmosphere was casual I would say of when it comes to decor. They make a mean margarita.
A place you don’t want to miss. Cocktails are great. Food is amazing.
Great food and friendly services. Thank Juan ... the chef.
Really fantastic food on a creative menu. The space is cute and modern and the staff was very friendly. Will definitely return, theres so many other things I want to try!
It was a very unique experience and fantastic original plates. Puerto Rican food elevated to another level.
Some of the best Puerto Rican food Ive had in Puerto Rico. I was on a honeymoon with my wife and we stumbled across this hidden beauty. The services was amazing, the food incredible in every way, and the atmosphere on point. I would 100% recommend you check this place out.We ordered a traditional Puerto Rican dish that was not on the menu and the chef had absolutely no problem wiping up this tasty meal.
Great food and superb service!! Very hard to find a rest. That serves creative Puertorican classic dishes with a twist. Normally places that do this fail with low quality attempts with high prices to boot. Not with Azucena! Classic Puertorican dishes with a slight twist and magical touch makes the food to die for. From their soft, delicate mofongo to their succulent mamposteao, food is made in a special way. Their salads are amazing and ceviche with fish fresh from the ocean. A must try and one of our favorite restaurants in the San Juan area!!
Delicious food and great service.
If you enjoy exploring the cities you visit, calle Loiza is very picturesque. Old and new side by side...We rented the restaurant for a special occasion and it was wonderful.Azucena has very good food and the staff were really nice!
The food was delicious and exceptional service!
Great food, lovely staff.
Great salmon, chicken, truffle mofongo. Desserts are also good: coconut flan and pumpkin mousse.Service is fast and friendly.
Although outside of restaurant does not have a sign, we were suggested to go. Excellent food and service. The waitress was very nice with the mother of one of our friends. We shared the appetizers and I can say ALL of them were EXCELLENT. We will try it again.
Great place. The desserts are amazing
Great plates selection... and beautiful vibe,
Lovely place with great food and service.
Best restaurant in Puerto Rico.
Loved the place. Food was good. The service was incredibly. We will return.
Excellent place. Staff very attentive, food was awesome. Well come back for sure.
Highly recommended. Staff and food were amazing! Would give more stars if available! It’s a must try!
Great restaurant with passion waiter and great dish, really recommend the cocktail.
Awesome service but the food was disappointing. My fish was very fishy.I should have said something . But I did not 🙄
Service, great!! Food, great!! Location, great!!
Very good place to have a romantic dinner. Cozy location with a variety of classical Puerto Rican dishes with a sophisticated execution. The place gets very busy and you shuld get a reservation. They also have a very good selection of house cocktails creation along with an extensive wine selection. This locations only offers valet parking service at an additional cost. Large groups should call ahead.
Nice restaurant , good food and excelent service.
Lunched there today. Service took forever and entrees are high priced. Parking at Tres B extra $6 when It belongs to same owner.
The service was a disaster. We asked for our drinks and 25 minutes later no drinks at all. I went to the bar and they said it was given to other table, but nothing to us. The food was good, but the sauce was cold. I did not recommend it, unless you are a tourist.
Amazing food. Excellent service.
The restaurant is cozy and well staffed. They offer a menu in both Spanish and English, and the wait staff was lovely. The food was fresh and delicious and cooked well. We sat outdoors and there was a band that was a little loud for my taste, but they did ask them to lower it a bit which was appreciated. All in all I would go back here for sure!
I have struggled while I have been here in San Juan to find what I would consider authentic food. My wife and I had the most fantastic meal of our trip here. It was fresh and seasoned perfectly. The wait staff were thoughtful and attentive. Try the red snapper fritters and if you get lucky and swordfish is one of the specials please dont pass it up
This new place ranks as one of the best on the island as far as Im concerned. Not cheap. But relatively speaking a decent deal. Simple nice place and they renovated old school house in the middle of hustling loiza Street scene. Staff couldnt be nicer. We had two appetizers which were outstanding. The fish chunks that were lightly breaded where absolutely delicious. My roast pork shoulder was an unusual cut and very good and huge. The stewed pigeon peas in plantain cream side was also very good. Would have ordered it as a dish unto itself. We sat in the terrace. Its December and the weather is nice. Inside it was not filled but the level of noise was very high and I have issues with my hearing, the background noise sounds louder and I cant hear what my wife is saying. Another reviewer posted a similar comment about the sound. Maybe its the material of the floor.Theres a nice bar and tables are not too close together. The terrace has nice plants and even fans. They do need a longer beer list. And the DJ picked things that Ive never heard anyone else play from the New York Latin music sound...or was it Pandora doing the picking. No matter, really enjoyed the music. We are definitely going back soon.
Great food and Customer service.
Genesis was a fantastic waitress. She suggested our hot and cold plates as well as our entree perfectly. Food is wonderful.
Beautiful place with outdoor and indoor area.. Great service. I try a few appetizers because I’m not too hungry and I’m like it a lot.. I will come back soon.
