Unassuming Turkish eatery serving lamb, chicken & vegan dishes, plus wine & beer in a homey space.
Excellent food and the prices are decent.
There’s no way to not order the Turkish coffee just look at this pretty little mug. If you are a lamb lover, this is the right place for you. Lambs were cooked amazingly. Servers were very friendly and nice. Definitely worth going.
Very HAPPY with my lunch today. Staff was very friendly and inviting. Food was flavorful and tasty. The Borek was delicious also.
Dined here with a few other people. Our servers were incredibly polite, very classy. I ordered a stuffed eggplant dish with a bechamel sauce which was so rich. Absolutely lovely, would gladly return.
A great restaurant serving authentic dishes in excellent form. The cabbage rolls and cornish hen are recommended as well as a Turkish coffee for drink. Costly but each dish is clearly deserving of its price with the effort and ingredients used.
The comfort food I never knew I needed. Stop by and bring your appetite.
Really good, not really gourmet food, more like comfort food. Really fun though. The lentil soup and the boreks were really good! Must tries!
The restaurant was very cozy, clean and welcoming. The food was superb, particularly the extremely tender lamb, and the waiter was friendly and attentive. We will definitely go back soon!Update: We came back two weeks later and the food was once again truly delicious. The staff were also very friendly, and the environment was clean and cozy. Please be aware that the menu changed from last time, so I believe the specials are updated regularly.Update 03/03/2022: We came with a friend today for dessert. Even though we arrived half an hour before closing, they very kindly let us in and the food was delicious! I particularly liked the Noahs Pudding, made with tasty rose water syrup. The restaurant was immaculately clean and very welcoming.Update 03/19/2022: We experienced the special meze event with a dear friend of ours. The food was excellent and had clearly taken great effort to prepare. I particularly liked the stuffed cabbage and spicy atom. The staff were all very friendly and attentive, and the owner was incredibly flexible to accommodate our needs.
SUPER delicious food, clean and quiet environment, and their lentil soup slapped!! It is a little bit pricey but totally worth it.
This review is long overdue.Although I do wish they offered online ordering (I work in the same complex, but I am so often rushed to eat during the day - and would love a way to order food in advance), their food is amazing. I highly recommend the lentil soup - and all of their salads and stews are fantastic. I also love that they always have something I can eat despite my dietary restrictions. And Ayse and her husband are amazing people.
Good feel, spotless clean, simple, but tasty food. I would also call the food healthy with healthy vibes. Enjoy it, truly found.
Ordered lunch portions, food quality good but simple homecooked taste and presentation. Ambience simple as well. Overall, dont feel disappointed at all, food tasty, but nothing to rave about either. Very kind and friendly service! Clean bathroom.
Everything we ordered was phenomenal. Service was excellent and you can really tell that the owner loves what she does.
I could eat at Ayses Turkish Café every day! The many friends I have brought with me for lunch or dinner love the food/desserts too! You cant go wrong with any entrée or dessert here, but my personal favorites are the Macaroni, the spicy Meatloaf, Cornish Hen, vegetable or spinach w/feta Börek, and for dessert either Alices pudding, Gülloç, or House pudding.♡ I really like the super clean environment, fresh flowers on every table, and last but not least of all, Ayse, the best cook ever!
I think we came at an off time. Food was OK, but packaged cold. Servings were smaller than price would indicate, and we got charged for items we didnt get. Will wait before I return, if I decide to do so.
Wonderful food, especially the dolma (stuffed red pepperand red lentil soup. Friendly staff.
The staff and the waiter were very polite and caring, however, the reason why I gave them a 3-star rating is due to their very limited menu choices (maybe that is related to pandemic we have and it is understood and justifiedbut what cannot be justified is that the chicken that I ordered had some very potent odor that was unpleasant, maybe due to storage and freezing error or something like that, I do not know but it is what it is.Overall, staff and waiter were very gentle and polite.
Ayse’s cafe is our favorite restaurant. The food is always really good. Lots of options to choose from. And you can actually have a conversation with those with whom you are dining: A rare experience at in today’s world. No televisions to distract you from enjoying a good home cooked meal with friends and/ or family!
It was really delicious and healthy food I like it too much
It’s a little like having a Turkish friend who’s mom invited you to join them for dinner. Check the photos to see a few of the shots I took while at Ayse’s. I liked the Allspice Chicken I ordered today. It’s served with rice with vermicelli, and I added the red lentil soup. The Ground Lamb with Eggplant entree looked pretty solid as well. They have a variety of cold desserts, some actually quite healthy. I can’t say enough about how delicious and healthy everything is here... and so different from the usual dining spots in Ann Arbor. I’ll definitely eat here again.
Delicious home-made food. Great Turkish coffee! They are so accommodating for allergies and special diets....and it reminds me of my Italian mothers Mediterranean style cooking. Would give more than five stars if I could.
The food is great, the employees are very friendly.
Ayses has the best food. The atmosphere is cozy too. 25 years in business says a lot. A very wonderful dining experience. A+
I want to love this place but have been disappointed the last 2 times.Salmon was dry and over cooked. Stuffed eggplant portion very small for dinner.Service not attentive at all.Would have been nice to have a 2nd cup of coffee but server basically disappeared.Large vase of flowers wilted and half dead on table. Not busy at all on a Saturday night and unfortunately I think I know why.Sorry Ayse but restaurant is going down hill a bit.
Mild food, not packed with too much flavor. Portion sizes were moderate. Enjoyed their coffee and the Turkish soda. Helpful staff
Cozy atmosphere & staff is very warm. Am definitely interested in frequenting as their menu depends on what ingredients are available!Recommend: Lamb shank, lentil soup
Great food and great service! Highly recommended.
Phenomenal! Met a friend here for lunch and was blown away at how delicious the food (and coffeewas. The owner and staff were all very warm and welcoming. I felt like we were at Ayses home being served comfort food made from the heart. It seemed effortless and perfect.
My first time for Turkish cuisine and won’t be my last. Ayse’s is outstanding! Great flavors, great service, comfortable setting!! Do not miss out on the dessert. Take a carry out if you are full. I suggest the zerde. My meal: cold cucumber/yogurt soup and zucchini stew with rice. I will drive the hour and a half to eat here again. The prices are reasonable.
This is the place I come when I want a delicious homecooked meal, but dont want to cook. They have offerings for everyone, including those who are vegan or vegetarian, gluten intolerant, etc. The restaurant itself is lovely, too (the staff is also wonderful). An Ann Arbor jewel!
The cold yogurt soup was so good! Granted, it wasnt the cheapest place Ive ever been, but not unreasonable. With and entree you get a soup or salad and rice pilaf or bulgar. We also had the Turkish coffee which was excellent.
Delicious food. Vegan and gluten free options are available. Traditional Turkish food with resonable price.
I had a great experience at Ayses. Both the waitress and owner were very friendly and made some recommendations from the days menu. Service was prompt and my soup arrived immediately and my dinner was timed perfectly. My food was delicious and flavorful -- and the tomato sauce had a kick to it, which I loved! Some reviews suggested the portions were small, but I left full and happy!
I went there with several colleagues from work. I had the Turkish coffee which was very good, but maybe a little pricey. The food was good, but the service was very slow. I would not recommend unless you have time to sit down for an extended period of time.
Great food and incredibly wonderful staff.
Hidden gem in North campus. Dont let the strip mall location deceive you. Home like food, friendly service and a peaceful dining atmosphere. Vegetarian friendly
I really enjoyed the rose water rice dessert. the food was good, home-style cooking. I had the zuchini with rice dish. The environment is comfortable and home-y.
The food was very good. Staff polite and courteous. This place is ans interesting cross between deli and full-service restaurant. Definitely worth a visit.
Great homemade food. New homemade food on the menu every day. Very friendly host and wait staff. Great atmosphere. Nothing like it in Ann Arbor. Two thumbs up. A MUST visit.
A unique restaurant where you order from a white board behind the cash register. Once you place your food order, the wait staff will take care of you for the rest of your visit. Food was good and moderately priced.
Very good food, though the portions were medium/small. Quiet atmosphere; it actually felt a bit too quiet, and exposed. Staff was friendly and welcoming. I would go back.
Surprisingly good. Nothing fancy about this place, straight forward, simple. Braised beef over rice was quite tasty. One member of our party is allergic to many things. The owner (I think came and talked to her and carefully prepared something she could eat, not always easy in restaurants. Thanks for a great night!
I had dinner here with my friend today because I wanted to try something new and Ayses did not disappoint. I loved the homeliness of the atmosphere and the flavor of the food. Ayse and the servers were incredibly friendly. The location isnt very noticeable, but its a hidden gem.
Ayse is doing great job. I especially love the deserts, simply the best in MI. Another favourite is Incik Kebap - if you like meat, you should try it. If you are a fan, you can also enjoy Turkish coffee after your meal. Overall, Ayses Cafe is a friendly, clean place providing tasty food consistently. Thank you Ayse!
First time diner here and not disappointed. Food is amazing - must try it! I had the red pepper stuffed with lamb topped with yogurt and a delicios tomato based sauce. The lentil soup came recommended by the owner and was the best lentil soup Ive ever tasted. Definitely a must try!
I dont know if you know about this charismatic small place located right here in Ann Arbor, if you dont, you ought to check it out. The homemade turkish food is hearty and fresh and you wont feel guilty eating loads of it because of its simplistic healthy ways. I love this place.
Im good friends with a former employee who introduced me to the place. Ayse is a wonderful and friendly woman and a great cook. Her food will leave you very satisfied!
I have dined at almost every ethnic restaurant in Ann Arbor, but to be honest, the food at this place was probably one of the worst I have had. We went to this place with a friend of mine for lunch. The waitress was really helpful in describing the food and the place looked okay. I ordered a meatloaf dish and my friend ordered two appetizers. The food arrived on time; however, compared to the price we paid, I was shocked to see that my main dish was in the size of a small appetizer. The price (compared to the portion sizecan be compared to luxury restaurants on Main street, which is disappointing given the location and the quality of the food served here. The food was kinda cold and did not taste good at all. One of the two appetizers we had was obviously days old and we did not even finish it. Both appetizers were served cold to us, although, given that they had fried ground beef and cheese in them, I assume it should have been served warm. I could even see the solid oil in the ground beef appetizer! Not worth it. I would not return to this place.
One of my favorite Turkish restaurants anywhere, including Turkey! Ayse offers delicious home made food and wonderful hospitality. I also often pick up food here for parties at home, and have never had anyone not like her food. She has a dozen or so hot dishes, and a collection of cold salads and deserts. The restaurant is open at lunch time and dinner time only during the week, and at dinner time on Saturdays. Highly recommended!
Another off the beaten path place in Ann Arbor, its tucked away behind Wendys off of plymouth. They have amazing homemade turkish food. The menu rotates regularly but they have amazing mezzos (think small appetizers), great main courses and beautiful deserts.Every lamb dish Ive ever had their is amazing especially the lamb with apricots. They have a lovely Lamb kofte (featuring eggplant). They have an array of deserts including a lovely rice pudding. Dont forget the turkish coffee, they make it the traditional way. Also stop by for lunch sometime. They have fairly inexpensive lunch specials!
