Ayasuluk Citadel in Bayındır

Restoration of the place has made it beautiful and it is worth a visit, but you will spend less than an hour here. There is not much to see inside although the area is large and it has great views of the surrounding city with walls that are almost completely intact due to restoration. Its worth a visit if you love castles and the entry fee is comparable to any other place around.

It is somehow the symbol for the Selcuk City.

Definitely worth going here with its city view and old history!

A historic place that much needed better reservation

I pretty much had the place all to myself as I went first thing in the morning. Please note that the entrance is through st. Johns Cathedral, I saw one gentleman wander away because he couldnt find the entrance. Believe me the small entrance fee is well worth it. Be prepared for quite a bit of walking over uneven Terrain, but once you reach the top of the Citadel and have commanding views of all of the region itll be worth the effort.

History is alive at this place, great experience.

Amazing place both for believers and atheists. Romantic medieval castle and burial place of an apostle of Christ.

It is very excellent place to visit. Most interesting thing for me is that most of walls still remain almost unbroken. But inside of castle not much. There is small mosque in it which is forbidden to enter as well as to climb the wall. There is only one fee to see the castle and St.John. So u can hit two birds at one time :)

Ordinary Citadel with spectacular view.1. It is not the Citadel that is spectacular, but the view. You can overlook 360 of the city of Selcuk.2. There are places nearby that is worthy to visit, the Basilica of Saint John, Isa Bey Mosque and the Aqueduct. Be sure to visit them before you go up to the citadel or after you visit the Citadel.3. You can walk up to the Citadel so as to do exercise too :)4. Anyway, enjoy

Magical walled and gated citadel with Byzantine (Church of St John), Saljuk, and Ottoman remains. Views from the upper castle are commanding and spectacular; well worth the climb. The walls are the most prominent remains but inside are structures including a ruined mosque, much-visited fragments of a church, large vaulted cisterns, and palace remains. Only suitable for walking; the terrain is uneven and care must be taken. No facilities inside. One ticket gains access to all features.

The entire hill takes you back centuries in time and is an amazing experience. The Citadel closes by about 5 pm but you can still explore the rest of the area. St. Johns Church is more interesting and has bigger bites if history attached to it while the Citadel is great for impressive views. The aqueduct and Isa Bey Mosque can both be seen from here and probably the Temple of Artemis if you know where to look.

Stunning views good coffee and well looked after.Only downfall is you have mobility issues it will be difficult for you to see it all.

So beautiful place

A partially restored citadel with an extraordinary heritage pedigree.This site is visited in conjunction with St Johns Basilica - same ticket and entrance.Fantastic views of the region but much more heritage work needs to be both undertaken and completed. The days if tourists interested in piles of rocks is long gone. We have been fed a diet of TV and online resources, so we want to see both interpretation and restoration for our travel and entrance funds. Not to mention our valuable leisure time.

The fort has been rebuilt in the 2000s and is what they think it looked like.

You can past to see if your near the place but it doesnt deserve to be a destination for a trip

They have been putting an effort into restoring the castle, but they still have a long way to go. It is nice to see though and its cheap for the entrance ticket.To go here, you have to enter in through Basilica of Saint John and then walk up to the castle. Its both on the same entrance ticket.

Its a shame we traveled so far to visit this place but didnt get to see it. Beware! The fortress is on the same premises as the Basilica of St. John. We used the Museum Pass (for the whole of Turkeyto get in and visited the Basilica. But as we didnt see any sign for the Ayasuluk Fortress, we exited St. John and tried to find a way to visit the Fortress. After wandering for about 40 minutes just seeing the walls and towers of the Fortress afar but not able to gain entry, we finally realized the two sights were connected. We went back to the Basilica entrance again and explained the situation to the lady in charge of ticketing. She held the official line: one pass for one sight ONCE. Well, we knew that. But, dare I ask for better signage for directions? Or a brochure? Or a map, even if its a B&W copy?

Fortress just rebuilt from the outside, still incredible view. Becomes hypnotizing at 13 hs when prayers start.

Ephesus is much better. The fortress was reconstructed.

Can be done at the same time at the church ruins. Great view from the top. Currently be refurbished.

Worth the hike up. Strong winds, yet a good view of Efes

Be careful with locals. They may suggest to show you non official free entrance. But in fact that guy tried to rob us.

You can access the Citadel of Ayasoluk through the ruins of St Johns Basilica. The cost for both is 10TL.The view from the citadel is incredible and gives an amazing panoramic view. From there you can see the city of Selçuk, İsa Bey Mosque, the ruins of the Temple of Artemis and on a clear day you can even see the sea.

The Fortres of Ayasuluk, even though the fortress has been built in the Byzantium period , most of the remains belong the Ottoman period
