History museum of civilian & military aviation featuring 30 aircrafts, many artifacts & a gift shop.
A large and well presented display of all things aeronautical , with detailed notes on everything. Knowledgeable volunteers to help with all questions. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
This museum sits just off Leach Highway. You enter through the gates of the Air Force Memorial Estate and find your parking directly outside the first hangar on your right, near the replica Spitfire. Entry is around $10. There is a vast array of planes and all sorts of related paraphernalia to do with both military and civilian aviation. You can ask for a guide or just wander through yourself. I would recommend taking at least an hour. Very good for kids with an interest in planes and/or history.
Who doesnt love to look at the history of RAAF aircraft. There are so many planes and models of planes. It is like Perth museum except with real planes and helicopters. Its good to bring kids because they can sit in some places and helicopters. Be ready for a debt in your wallet especially if you want every experience.
Took my 14 yr old nephew and we thoroughly enjoyed the exhibits, he used all the interactive displays. And especially liked the Spitfire and the jet engine working cutaway. We spent over 2 hours there.
Awesome display, virtual reality on 3 aircraft.
Amazing place for flight enthusiasts. There is so much knowledge one can gain by visiting this museum, about war planes right from when it was made by wood, all the types of communication devices that were used. Great place for all age types. Place is well maintained and worth spending a whole day reading up about all the things used during World War.
Absolutely excellent. We have been here many times and the amount of interesting stuff to see is amazing. This time we went on the lancaster bomber guided tour, the one where you get to go inside the lancaster, and it was amazing. The tour was so good, the tour guide, Don I think, was amazing. He took his time on the tour and was very patient and interesting. In the end we took 2 hours on the tour which was so good. Absolutely excellent all around. Really good.
This place is full of great memorabilia of planes and flight informationExcellent display of planes and some interactive things
World class. Awesome range of aircraft and very well kept.
What an awesome day. So much to see and do! They recommend 1-2hrs? We were there 3+, o had 3 boys under 6 absolutely loved it! Thank you for a cheap great day out
Definitely a must visit for aircraft or history buffs. Lots of information and exhibits dating back to the start of aviation. Housed in 2 hangars and then some, itll be a worthwhile couple of hours going through each exhibit. Theres also a couple of simulators and cockpit/hatches for kids to go in to fiddle around with the controls. Plenty of photo worthy shots. Will be back!
Great museum with 2 sheds full of aircraft and other war memorabilia. The volunteers are lovely and are able to answer lots about the aircraft.Looking forward to seeing the F-18 when it arrives
Was hesitant but a very interesting collection enjoyed the articles about exhibits. WORTH a visit.
Hidden gem. This museum was recommended to me by a friend. It was the first time I had heard of this museum, but I am glad we had decided to visit this place. Recommended for all ages. Lots of planes and other artefacts with alot of knowledge.
If you have any interest at all in aviation, youll love this place. Its worth taking the time to chat with the volunteers, who are all incredibly knowledgeable. Today I did the tour of the Lancaster Bomber, something Ive wanted to do for years and never got around to, even though its only ten minutes from where I live. Why did I wait? I had so much fun, crammed into those tiny spaces, with not a moment of boredom in a tour that ran for over an hour and a half. Highly recommended. If you want the tour, only two or three can go, so its worth booking ahead. If youre not bothered, you can turn up, but be aware it can get busy and hot in summer, so mornings are better.
Great array of significant military aircraft fixed wing and rotary. Highlights are Huey, Tornado GR4, Lancaster, Spitfire and DC 3. But also includes loads of other air transport related stuff sufficient to keep an aircraft enthusiast busy for a couple of hours.
Incredibly lovely placed, filled to the brim with all the aviation you could want. A welcoming environment complimented with wonderful volunteers.
This has so much more in it than I ever imagined. Highly recommend. Work every dollar of the entry fee. The volunteers are lovely and knowledgeable. I loved this place and so did my kids. Lots of interactive things for the kids to enjoy while the adults explore. What a treasure to have this museum in our backyard.
Top place. It truly is a credit to the staff and volunteers, both current and the many years past. A huge amount of history. The Lancaster, Catalina, Spitty and recently added Tornado were stars for me. The collection of models it amazing. Quite a bit of interactive stuff and rolling videos etc. Well worth a visit.
Great museum with a fantastic setup, child friendly and great staff.Lots of parking.
Excellent display of aircraft including the new Tornado GR4 as well as the Catalina, Spitfire, Canberra and a LancasterThe museum is easily accessible from the Kwinana Freeway and also contains a treasure trove of other Aviation memorabilia
Great place if you love aviation.
This was an unexpected treasure... While it is obviously run by volunteers, they were cheerful and helpful. The museum has an unexpected amount of detail and exhibits in a very small space. Definitely worth a visit if you have any interest in aviation!
I live in Perth but it was my first visit. The museum was exceptionally good! Well presented and displayed and I really enjoyed reading and listening to the historical facts and so many planes, photos and parts to see.Ill be back.
We had a fabulous time at the Aviation Heritage Museum. I’ll try to keep this short. Visited with a 2.4yr old and 5m old baby. The toddler had a blast.Reasons to visit/things to see: There are interactive displays, like a helicopter you can sit in, push the button and the rotor blades spin, a small plane they can climb into and “fly” - they are also working on some virtual reality displays that you can sit in and fly for the kids. There are two hangars, the far one with military memorabilia and aircrafts. In between the two are seated tables for you to sit and feed the kids or take a break. The people are so friendly and knowledgeable and patient with the kids.Hygiene and convenience: The change table area (while not fancywas better equiped then most of the play centres around Perth! I’d forgotten our change mat — no worries, spares underneath. I’d also forgotten disposable nappy bags, no worries, spares under the change table too. There was also a wooden busy block play toy in the change table area so you can keep your toddler busy while you attend to the baby. It was also super clean! And the tables outside (despite the bad windy and rainy weatherwere also super clean. The toddler stopped to eat his lunch and I swear, I ran my finger over that table 3 times and there was not one ounce of dust on it! You could literally eat off the table.
Amazing aviation museum, lots of history really well presented and you can get up close to everything. Very enjoyable.
If youre into aviation, and especially war planes, you must visit here. Its a paid self walking tour of all collections of aviation related things. From war planes to morse codes to air traffic control to airlines, this place has it all. Dont expect much modern planes as most of the displayed pieces are pre 90s. This place is wholly managed by volunteers. Parking is free and available right infront of the museum.
A lot to see in the museum, great history of many wartime planes used in Australia. There are two hangars, so dont forget to visit both! It is amazing how they squeezed so many planes, some that are really large, in the hangars.
99% war history. For $125 you get a fully detailed presentation of ONE of the planes. Amenities are from the 1930s. The VR wait times caused the kids to lose interest. Its an impressive facility nonetheless. I think youd have to be a serious war aviation enthusiast to get the best out of it. 3 stars from me.
Highly recommend, Lancaster tour is a must. There are not many places in the world left where you can see and tour on these. Take the opportunity before they all disappear
Well worth the trip, will be back without the bored teen haha
1st time here and wow some fantastic exhibits and wondered how they fitted so many huge planes in. A great place to spend a few hours going through and looking at the planes and history behind them and the other items there..
Detailed, amazing display of static and interactive history pieces. Must see for any plane loving, people
Very nice museum, they have even a Lancaster in the hanger
Staff friendly, both sheds stuffed wall to wall.I took a star off (not their faultthey really need a bigger shed or extension to space out planes and props because at the moment it is hard to take good photos and really take in the history and info etc. So come on wa Gov give them a little Grant for extension. Keep up the good work guys.
We would definitely still be their, so many interesting stories to read about and so much to see, staff are amazing and very insightful on sharing their knowledge. Unfortunately our Holden club had to leave early due to state news release on covid 19.
The aviation heritage museum is the best place in Perth to learn about aviation, the planes that conquered the skies, and the people who did it. Covering not only military, but also the rich civilian side of humans dream to touch the skies, you wont have enough time to see it all in one go, or talk to the people who made it possible. With new management the museum has also come to deliver a new and improved experience, with a much more hands on approach than before, with kids being able to, and encouraged to enter and explore a handful of different aircraft, and an bird has whispered to me that pretty soon a entirely unique VR experience will be available for those with a taste for flight. An amazing experience has just been made even better, so head on in!
Very well curated museum with some of the most unusual aircraft that have been found. 1 of my uncles, Brian Walker, was a volunteer here. He encouraged us to go, but I only just managed to find the time. And I found his name upon a memorial board. When I saw the Model aeroplanes, NASA exhibit and the Corunna Downs diorama with the City of Perth Squadron Liberators, I thought straight off, that uncle Brian probably had something to do with these...Museum covers virtually everything from balloons to Skylab that flew over WA.If theres anything Id swap, itd be the Lancaster for a Liberator, since we flew the later from WA rather that the former, but the Lancaster is an impressive plane none the less.
What an amazing Museum! Great place to take the kids filled with planes from WW1 and WW2 and factual information you just never knew. Highly recommend to families with young children and relatively inexpensive. The guides are actually servicemen and woman who are more than happy to talk to you about the museum.
It was a really hot day but the lovely Museum volunteers gave us a great tour, there is so much wonderful history and memories, I can thoroughly recommend a visit, you wont be disappointed.
Small but full of Australian aviation history and memorabilia - both civilian and armed forces. Quite a few exhibits under maintenance but even with that we spent a few hours just sporadically walking around and reading.
Spent a good few hours here,Amazing host who is also senior veterans,Many good things to see and take photos around here, worth the price for the entrance and the place is full of history and love,I would come back again for many years to come,Thanks for giving me such a happy experience during Australian day😃
1st thing after I entered the humble gate is WOW. Such an awesome place full of thousands of different types and aircrafts and stories. The place may be a bit old but it’s very well maintained. So proud to have this museum in WA.My 4.5 and 1.5 year old are amazed too, so if you’re questioning if this place is suitable for kids, YES! Just make sure they don’t get too excited and go over the fence to ride on every plane. Also, they have a helicopter for the kids to experience and take picture. And some stairs to get up to the entrance of the aircraft to checkout the interior. Museums have 2 parts, the second building located building is even wow. There’s a staircase for the lookout (unfortunate not for prawn or wheelchair so I parked my pram downstairs and walked up, easily). No regret at all taking my kids there today. Highly recommended.
Outstanding museum. A fantastic collection, lots to see and do. Great for kids, will be even better once all the COVID restrictions have gone.
Great Place if you love aviation....excellent customer service as well as senior staff. If need to receive more informations they really keen to provide....
Beautiful hidden gem out in the suburbs. A great place to take kids as they get to really get up close and personal with aircraft from different eras. Nicely laid out and inviting. The offer tours , like the Lancaster Tour. This is completely self funded museum run by volunteers with no assistance from the government and deserves our support .
Amazing planes just the sheer size of it all and work that would of been done to make these machines is unbelievable. Great museum. Easy to navigate, would come again. 🤙
Great collection of aircrafts over the centuries.Highly recommended !!The simulation is really helpful but that would be better if people can see the actual speed of piston / rotor.
This was a brilliant visit! Great planes to see from multiple eras of flight. The Catalina, MK16 Spitfire, Lancaster Bomber and the Heuey Helicopter were my favourites. I can spend hours in these hangers to look at and read all there is to see. Even things like Paratrooper Motorcycle! Definitely well worth a visit.
Just a short train trip to Bull Creek the Aviation museum is one that shouldnt be missed, excellent display of all things to do with Aviation not just planes though there are many and many excellent models but pride of place in the second building is the Lancaster Bomber, just go there
