Fusion tacos, craft beer from around the world & a large patio in the Hilton downtown.
Awful breakfast. 3 egg omelette.... meaning 1 ladle of powdered eggs....then a handful of raw ingredients (spinach was "cooked" with the heat from the egg loaf..... 20$. Sourdough bread was partially cooked. Had to ask a few times for a cup of coffee, once received it was less than half a cup full. Waffle house has better food.
Food was really fresh and hot. Very good. You can order it just the way you want it. Alex was friendly and on top of the service keeping the drinks filled. Atmosphere was lacking this time with hardly anyone there. Otherwise a great place to have a good meal and relax.
It is incredible how a bad employee can ruin the whole experience. Today was the second time I visited this place. I went for a breakfast and the person that brought my coffee almost split it all over the table when I asked him to not fill out the complete cup. I totally understand when accidents happens but when someone does it bc of a bad attitude is unaceptable. The same guy came some minutes after and I asked for something else. He immediately turned around and make a weird sign with his hand which I did not understand.Luckly his colleagues saw the action and came to save the experience. They quickly went to my table and I asked me what I ordered, apologized for the other persona attitude, and brought my sugar. I left the 20% tip for the ones that really do the job.Managers must be careful of hiring people with this kind of attitude. Just one person can damage the good job of an entire team and your restaurant. And employees if you are not in a good mood, stay at home that day.
Hostess could barely stand to seat us. Later vaping in the ladies room. Waitress was standing at our table taking another tables drink order. She spilled water on our table, offered no napkins or cloths to clean it up, instead shook her hand off at the table. Breakfast Food took over an hour, plates were hot as if sitting under the heat lamp, while hostess sat with her feet up on her phone at the hostess stand. What has happened to the service industry?
Hour to get food, extremely small tiny tacos, forgot my black bean side, and waitress nowhere to be found. At least the tiny tacos were good.
Conveniently located inside the Hilton, its comparable to most of the other Austin taco joints but I wouldnt necessarily go out of the way to get here. Theres certainly so many options in and around the area.
Great spot with some great options. The house Mothers sauce was the bomb on my two huge tacos. Great draft beer and margarittas. Service was awesome.
I got the ATP Bowl and it was INSANELY good! James made an amazing strawberry mule and was incredibly friendly!
Was an awful experience. Took about 20 minutes before anyone came to us to take our drink order. Then after ordering we waited another 20 minutes before we received our chips and salsa and sat there for another 45 minutes before anyone came over after that. The server had completely forgot to put our order in when we asked how much longer our food would be. We were there for almost 2 hours and never got a drink refill, or water refill even after asking.
I was quite happy with The Austin Taco Project which is located inside of the Downtown Austin Hilton. As I was there for my birthday, this was the perfect place to grab a drink before the festivities began for the evening. More importantly, I was quite happy to have a place that I could enjoy some breakfast after a night out on Sixth Street! The restaurant itself is located on what you could call the ground floor of the Hilton down toward the far end past the lobby. If you see the other restaurant and pass it, you are heading in the right direction. Just head down the escalator and it will be on your left. As an alternative if you’re coming in off the street there is also a couple doors for access to/from the street. After walking in for the first time to have a drink, I was quite impressed with the interior as it was clean and spacious (I didn’t take too many photos as there are plenty out there of the interior). I found my way to the bar and enjoyed a nice conversation with the bartender who had a few suggestions on where to go on Sixth and where not to go. Wouldn’t have mattered years ago, but now that I am older, picking a place that is more my speed in a college town kind of matters!Moving forward, the next day I went back to have some breakfast. I first tried the Chilaquiles and they didn’t quite do it for me. Not sure why but might have been my stomach that particular day after a night out. Either way, the hostess/server Hope was wonderful and took them back and I ordered the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese on a Brioche Bun. I was quite satisfied with this sandwich as the Arugula was a nice touch and the bacon was perfect. Heck, everything was pretty darn good. The sandwich also came with a side of potatoes, and I found them to be perfectly cooked and above all, great on flavor. This sandwich was a total win for me!Final Thoughts:If you are staying at the Hilton, this restaurant is worth considering for your breakfast, lunch, and dinner needs. They close at four on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday and 10 P.M. the rest of the days, but most bars start to open around four so… The hostess and my server Hope was a wonderful lady and was great to talk with. More so, she put up with my constant talking and was a great person to have take care of me. Great hire on the part of this restaurant and I do sincerely appreciate that they took the Chilaquiles off the ticket. Not many places will do that these days, so that alone should tell you about the quality and character of The Austin Taco Project. Definitely check these guys out!
I was skeptical going in as Ive experienced some very mediocre restaurants in hotels. But what a great surprise this place was, the tacos were spectacular and the service was great! Will definitely visit again.
Tacos werent worth the wait. Decent taste but the service was non-existent and when we were finally waited on it was rude like we were an inconvenience.
Had a couple of meals while staying at the hotel. No complaints; the food was good for breakfast and lunch. Drinks hit the spot.
Food was excellent, service was garbage. Staff was friendly, but largely absent. Stood at the host stand for about 10 minutes before being seated. The servers noticed me and ignored me. After I was seated, the host brought me a water in a broken glass. After I was seated the food came quickly but they forgot to bring me my drink. For $15 for two tacos, I would have expected better service.
While situated in the Hilton, Downtown Austin, its not like an hotel restaurant. Its far better food wise, at least for what Ive eaten here so far.Ive tried the American breakfast and it was delicious and tasty, with the eggs cooked to perfection. Last time I was here I went for the acai bowl which was superb (if not a little too sweet for my tastes).Unfortunately, the service can be sloooowwwwww, at least it was today and yesterday (26th and 27th July 2022, AM). Slow to be seated, slow to be served. I dont mind the food taking a long time, but the service has to be quicker. I walked out today without being served. It wasnt busy at all...Sorry, but this place is not my first choice anymore staying at the Hilton. Ill be eating elsewhere I think...Also, there were managers there, behind the bar doing something, and did nothing when they saw me waiting to be seated with nobody there to help. I didnt even get to meet my server when I was finally seated, I waited 10 minutes then walked out. Looking at other reviews, it looks like no lessons learned in the last 5 months or so...
RJ the bartender hooked me up with a Bloody Mary! Really cool vibe place with super friendly staff. Heather stopped by just to check in with us and make sure we were good! What great staff! I didn’t try any food but glanced at a few plates that went by and they looked great!
Great place, bartender RJ and waitress Heather will take great care of you! Bloody Marys are off the chain. Fun game room, great atmosphere. Check it out
I recommend making reservations we ate here after a work conference. The menu is creative and fun and includes more than just tacos.I loved the pork tacos and the salsa trio with extensive flavors.
Super delicious! We ordered the chicharrones, baja shrimp tacos, and the confit pig tacos. But the highlight of our visit was the ultra-delicious mojitos that the fabulous bartender Ivan made for us! I would stop by again just to have another mojito from Ivan!
Some friends and I were staying at the Fairmont down the street but stumbled upon this place. We were sat immediately and our server recommended the Baja shrimp tacos. We didnt catch her name but she was very helpful and accommodating. The food was amazing so we came back the next day. We had a different server this time. Young man. Super sweet and helpful too. The wait time for food was a little long but the staff did great with refills and fresh margaritas.
The pig confit was the best taco Ive ever had. Service was top notch. My wife had the Carne Asada and she said it was magnificent. We ordered a side of Mexican rice that was perfect as well. If you have a chance to stop at this gem I would highly recommend it.
We had a work function here with a chips and salsa buffet. Everything was amazing including the breaded fish tacos I ordered.
Had the Carne Asada Tacos. Requested flour tortillas and recieved corn. I will admit, I was not super-mega-clear that I wanted flour tortillas. Regardless, the filling of the corn tortillas was dry, not fresh, unimpressive. The corn tortillas were actually ok+, as I am not a fan of the corn tortillas, they were pretty good. Taco Joint is still my go-to Taco in Austin. It may also make a difference that I visited at 2pm on a Monday.
Pancakes. Hands down best freakin pancakes in Austin. I’m from Dallas and I’ve been to Austin a dozen times but first time here. Tacos were Meh. Service negative Meh. But the pancakes made up for it, worth every calorie.
The service was really slow. We had to ask for refills on all drinks. Our chips and queso came out after our food and I think we only got it because we asked. My daughters cheese burger was cooked to a medium level if that, it was closer to rare. She ate it because of how slow the service was, she got sick shortly after eating it. It took over 25 minutes to get our bill even after we asked for it. I would not recommend anyone going here.
The first day the shrimp baja tacos were the best I have ever had. Went back the second time. They were good but different from the first visit.
Worst Fosh Tacos I have ever had. I was really hoping they were going to be good. After waiting 1 hr for my to go order, I took it back up to my room. The fish was so dry, like card board. They didnt give me salsa so just had to deal with it. The beans were over cooked, dry and flavorless. The rice had good flavor but again, very dry and over cooked. Will NEVER go here again and suggest you dont either......
Scientifically PerfectAustin is a big taco town and I have my favorites, and the Austin Taco Project is one of them. I am usually downtown regularly and was planning on dining at Cannon + Belle, but they were closed so came here instead for lunch. One thing to know is the prices here are a bit higher than other taco places around town, but don’t let that scare you away where the food here is good. They also have a nice bar and games to play. The place was a bit busy and decided to try the Battered Fish. The menu described it is tortilla crusted cod, shredded cabbage, mango salsa, cilantro lime cream and corn tortilla. The fish tacos arrived in pairs and both had a big filet of fish. The batter on the fish was crispy and had a great taste. All the ingredients on it made it perfect. Eat this and will be full for the rest of the day.Austin Taco Project may not be the grab & go taco joint but if you want a place to sit and relax then perhaps a place for you.
Fantastic dinner. Our server, Skyla gave legit recommendations and it was a great experience. Thank you so much. Decent pricing too.
Tacos were pretty good, margs were weakIn response to the owner’s reply, the issue wasn’t customization as much as the margs lacked tequila.
The Austin Taco Project is an awesome place! When I went with some co workers I had the Baja Shrimp tacos and they rocked my world. The service was top notch and food came out hot and fresh! This location could work for a business lunch or a date night! I will definitely be coming back.
Terrible service by Heather. Took awhile for anyone to come to our table. We were finally able to get our order in, asked her for straws, creamer for the coffee and another place setting, we didn’t get any of it and had to go get it ourselves as well as return the menus. Food took over 45 minutes to arrive and was lukewarm when it did. You could tell it had been sitting for awhile in the kitchen. Very disappointingI modified this review since you took the time to respond and yes, I should have gone to the manager at the time.
My first time visiting austin and my hosts brought me here for a sunday late lunch. Had a burger and fries. The portions are good and the food was great. I really liked the crispy fries.
We had breakfast since we stayed here. The açai bowl was delicious. Pastries could be better. Service definitely stands to improve. Expensive for what is doled out.
Would like to give three and half stars instead of just three.Because the restaurant is downtown, you likely will have to pay to park if you bring your car. Otherwise, it is best to use public transit or a ridesharing service.I made a reservation for the top golf suite on OpenTable. That process was pretty seamless - and I didnt run into any trouble there. I made a reservation for the early afternoon on a Saturday (that time seemed to not be busy). During the evening time, the top golf suite seems to be booked up. My suggestion is to book days in advance for the top golf suite for evenings on the weekend. The suite rental per hour of the suite is 65 dollars. My kid and hubby had a blast playing the simulation games and they really want to go back to have that experience again. There is a multitude of games to choose from (not just golfing simulations), but all types of sports simulations. This ranges from pitching, throwing a football, and playing carnival games to name a few.The service was only okay. We originally started with one server, but in the middle of our time in the suite, he left (I suppose his shift was over). We and the staff were unaware that the server was no longer present. It took longer than normal for my husband to get his drink, and took a while to get the food from the menu (which is a bit overpriced in my opinion). Once we had a different server, things became a lot better. The new server was more attentive and pleasant to be around.Overall, I think I would come back here (mainly for the suite rental).
Great tacos with unique choices. Indoor dining in a clean modern environment. Great for group of friends, family, or coworkers.
Worst tacos I have ever had !! With all the amazing food and tacos in Austin Im not sure why anyone would eat tacos here. The tortillas obviously store bought, my shrimp Taco was cold and flavorless. My fish Taco Im not sure was actual fish, no flavor in the salsa, cold tortillas. My beer was decent at least. Go elsewhere !
The staff made my wife and I feel like VIP’s. James was one of our servers and incredibly hospitable. The Joshes (GM and assistantmade us feel at home and the hostess and bartender brought it full circle! Go here, get the burrito, and hit golf balls in the private suite!!
Friendly server. Decent drinks. Tacos flavorful. I wasnt a fan of the tortillas, which seemed chewy and not authentic.
The service was great. The food was presented well. However, the tacos were so greasy I used my cloth napkin to wipe fat off of the bottom of my tacos. They were drowning in fat. I expected better tacos for the price. I spent $35 plus tip for 6 tacos and a water. I do not recommend this taco stop.
First of all..one star less just for the reception . No body was there. We stood there for quite sometime and then only moved to grab a seat with menus from the desk. Now abt the food - nothing special. We tried the Tots, Al pastor and fish tacos.Out of which only fish taco was good.
The sign outside says Tacos keep me up at night and these will since youll wont forget the worst customer service youll encounter, Austin Taco Project does not worth the price of bad tacos. The only positive is the interior design.
Try the Carne Asada Tacos. They are to die for. The flavors play so beautifully together! And, by God, dont leave without trying the corn! The service was fantastic even though they were busy!
Late night tacos downstairs at the Hilton = 😍 Great, friendly service and a good drink selection. Came by around midnight and only had 4 taco choices so we got one of each except the Tofu. They were all delicious. Extremely fast service and delivery of food. Overall great experience.
We came here on a whim as we are staying at the Hilton, and boy howdy, what a whim it was.We were greeted by some real friendly staff and sat outside, it was nice and cozy, not too hotOur server was Abel, he was able to suggest some local favorites and suggestions for our vegetarian friend. We got the Brisket tacos and Tots. The brisket was perfectly cooked, like perfect. The tots were amazing, the style wasnt expected as we are used to Canadian style where its just tots, these were loaded. We got their draft beer , 1815 which was a smooth beer and great. We overall enjoyed our stay, Abel was dope and great.Would recommend highly to RTX attendees and people just visiting Austin!
Great street tacos. Get the Elote appetizer! Nice mix of flavors with a good kick. You can see they grilled the corn on the cob and cut the corn off. Carnitas and Al Pastor tacos were really good. Nice balance of meat to size of tortilla ratio. Dont forget the Churros at the end!
Small plates and tacos. The tempura fish taco was our favorite. Also recommend the tots, which come with fried cheese curds and an egg. Great selection of hot sauce too, including blueberry ghost pepper, if you like the heat. Gluten free selection available.
The fish tacos were very good but a bit messy. The only problem was the service. There was no host at the door so we had to ask a bartender to be seated at a table, then our waitress was not around much and didnt come up to us at first for a while. They have gluten free options on the menu.
👌🙌 Server was fantastic! Great food, cool spot! As a Canadian, though, the poutine definitely wasnt one (but it was still delicious 😋)
everything we ordered was delicious! highly recommended. street corn and meatballs were great apps. barbacoa, steamed bun, pineapple express, all DELIGHTFUL.
