Absolutely delicious!!! The Mac and cheese here is to freaking die for.. so good!!! The greens... The beans... Lawd my waistline lol you will not be disappointed eating here!! They stay busy so allot time for the wait.. but trust and believe its worth it!!!!!!!!

Food was good!! Best oxtails Ive tasted in Jacksonville and I like that they wasnt sweet. I didnt really care for the potato salad but the yellow rice and Mac was good.

Today was my second experience with Austins soul food restaurant and their food is so good and so delicious its seasoned well the customer service was good I love everything about it the customer service was good I love everything about it

I can tell you that right off bat she is very passionate about her business, loves to support her community, and she even gives opportunities to the people in need of either full time or part time jobs. She is real as you, me, or anyone you know on the every day basis. So help her out and let her show you her heart and art. I dont know why places go from good and turn they business backwards hiring all these kids to run it after getting popular ...They prices are defly not worth the food or quantity that you get , My Mac & cheese was so dry and chicken was over cooked I really cant believe this is the same Austins I wasted so much money , they dont even give you cornbread with the meal anymore. this place use to be vibrant and felt welcoming , now you come in the kids dont even seem to wanna be there . This place was defly better before the upgrade

I am writing a recent review of Austin and they have really gone down. I went there on Sunday and the food was horrible. The rice was gummy the greens was bland and meatloaf was not good. On top of that cornbread no longer comes with the meal. It’s a charge of $1.50 for a square of cornbread per dinner. Really Austin’s????

Truthfully, I did not have the opportunity to eat the food. My partner and I waited outside nearly 15 to 20 minutes, because we both had a taste for some good soulfoodand wanted to see what this place was about. We saw several people outside and thought the location needed work but all in all, we will try it. Nearly 10 people were turned around due to an event they were catering. There was no sign on the door, no indication they would be closed for a special event. I would rate them lower due to bad business practices. Communication is key, especially in the food industry. Try them if you like, but I wouldn’t waste my time due to the lack of professionalism they displayed. They are not the only ones who have the love of cooking and eating soulfood.

Sorry for 1 star im a big fan of Austins food also my family, usually I get the seafood salad one of my favorite today is the first time in months since ive had the SFsalad it was missing the main ingredient the Seafood had 2 bait shrimp not sure if its a different prepartion cook from the past so sorry.

Wow! Hate to do this because the food use to be soooo good years ago but yesterday not so much. The 1 Star is def because the service was top notch, sweet girl at the register, order was ready to go quickly but the food and desert were terrible. I ordered the smothered pork chops with mac and cheese and greens, Oxtail with snap peas and greens and an 8 piece drummet. Me and my  husband also ordered 3 peach cobblers. All this came up to $76, which I can respect the hustle but the quality did not add up to the prices.  Firstly, the portion size was that of an express, 1 spoonful on all the sides, but alot of rice which was undercooked and lacked any  real flavor. The greens were beyond salty to the point that they were inedible also no meat in sight that would have given it a natural seasoning instead of a pound of salt that was clearly thrown into it. My porkchops were tough and NOT smothered, as there was some gravy minus onions just poured over them and they were not fully covered in gravy. Mac and cheese was baked which was nice,  but also too salty to really enjoy. My husband did enjoy his Oxtails, but for $22 he received 3 small pieces layed on a bed of hard yellow rice. Drummets were decent, cooked fresh but definantly fried in old grease because they were extremely dark and tasted burnt. As for the desert, this is were I have my biggest gripe, peach cobbler is not your simple average desert, it takes time and skill, especially if your calling yourself a soul food restaurant cause then I am expecting it to be from the soul ie. from scratch. For nearly $6  I received a croissant layed on top of a can of peaches and a bunch of watery brown sugar. Real peach cobbler lovers know that the CRUST is the best part of any peach cobbler and for you to slap a store bought croissant in the mix is just down right disrespectful. NOT COOL! especially when youre charging these kinda prices. Not sure who was in that Kitchen, but def not the Austins that I use to love.

Food was delicious, portions lrg,staff was very friendly and professional. I wish there was at least an industrial Fan in the Outside waiting area. Everything was great! I cant wait to visit again 😁✊🏾

This wasnt my first time, hopefully not my last but the meal today was light considering how much they charge. Normally, you could save some for the next day, not this go around. I ordered the Meatloaf with yellow rice,collard greens and sweet yams. My plate was more the size for 10yr old or so.

Yesterday was the 2nd visit n a row where my food was overly salty. I was so hungry I tried to eat it. Having high blood pressure I only ate a few fork fulls. I left over 3/4 plate of uneaten food. S mentioned earlier this was the 2nd time the food was really salty. I used to enjoy the food but now I’m having second thoughts about going back again. Please have your cooks leave some room for us to add seasoning if we want it. A lot of black ppl have hbp / on sodium restrictions. TOO MUCH SALT.(

The food was very good, besides getting only ONE single turkey wing :( made me sad

Food was good, mashed potatoes were ice cold, macaroni wasn’t for me, oxtails and rice were amazing, best I’ve ever had, chicken was good and so were the cornbread and lemonade

I hope this place gets better. Lighted menu board but products not served. Referred to a written on board with selected products with some being erased. When asked about a product they are unsure and asked again we continued for a reply. I had to walk out. SMH. Personal items in the food area. I will not be surprised this place will be on the bad food report. Good luck to this organization.

Had the oxtail dinner OMG!!! JUST PERFECT!What can I say other than if you havent tried it, your missing out! Service was fast and friendly. No dine in carry out only but that was fine with me!

I visited Austin 2x’s back to back in the week! On Saturday I got the fried shrimp dinner with Mac and cheese and field peas and snaps. Sunday I got the same thing along with an oxtail dinner. I did try the dressing and greens as well.The customer service on both days were excellent and even the owner was very friendly which was a plus!The shrimp on both days were awesome fried to perfection! The Mac and cheese on Saturday was better than Sunday to me, it was way more creamy and not to much of the sharp taste. You can see the difference in the picture of both macs.The dressing was very moist and seasoned to perfection with the gravy on top. Greens were good as well.My mom said the oxtails were tender but would like more spice to it.Overall I would recommend for your next soul food fix, and I will be going back too!

One of the best soul food restaurants on the North side of Jacksonville. They are only open on the weekend but they are definitely worth the wait. You get a pretty decent amount of food and their desserts are amazing.

This was my first time eating at Austins The food was excellent I had liver and onions the liver melts in your mouth the candy yams was to die for the oxtails was so tender and the baked chicken what season to perfection I will be going back 😇🙏

The food use to be great before they closed down.Now the food "greens,chicken,Oxtail are all disgusting. I know longer eat there. However,they are still nice people..

The first time l went to Austins it was Fantastic! This time not so much. My Ox tail plate was missing my collard greens and sweet potatoes...l just had a container of rice and Ox tails. I ordered peach cobbler...nothing like southern peach cobbler...which I ordered but what I got was Baklava cobbler...which was overly sweet not what l had in mind...please adjust the menu to reflect what it is "Baklava" peach cobbler I wouldnt have ordered it! Please check your order before you leave and caution if you order the peach cobbler. Overall I wasnt very happy 😕...maybe next time.

This was my first time to this diner and the food was delicious. I had yellow rice, oxtail, collard greens and dressing. The food was so good. The place was crowed but it didnt take long to order our food. I will be back.

Haven’t been back since the remodel and the meats was good but the side 🥺 horrible my Mac and cheese was sour like lemon was in it and the yams we won’t discuss cause I can’t. And my mom tried the dressing and said she crunch on something.The oxtails are 22 dollars and definitely not worth it you can go down to island tropics and get way most for less. This was my last trip to Austin went up in food and down on quality of it

Great soul food freshly cook fast service

I grew up with this family since I was a child I knew their grandmother and grandfather I knew their moms and its so wonderful to be able to still have a relationship with them. I even knew Charlene godmother she lived two doors down from me so we always waved at each other so I was either in Grandma Bessies or granddaddy Raymond house then we went to high school together. I think the food is fantastic and I love the family so so very much. So many have gone on that I miss Ill be in here forever if I start talking but just know I love you all Im so proud of your successes and wherever you start food Im going to be there.

The food is good but their customer service and high prices are ridiculous! They actually took my money and claimed my purchase didnt go through! They didnt give me my food and I was so hungry, thats basically fraud! Thankfully I have a good bank that decided to just give me credit for it. Im trying to let ppl know they may scam you. So either pay the high prices with cash, or find another place that values the customers. FYI. They charge you to use your debit/credit card on top of the high prices! They lost some customers!

Service was good. The cashier was very courteous. I did object to the surcharge the business added onto the cost for using my debit card to pay. The food was salty and over cooked.

Traveled all the way from Baldwin Florida, just to sample this place. Staff was very nice. One thing that I would recommend is update your menu prices online. Got all the way home to enjoy my meal with the family….only to find out my ole man was short pork chop, mind you before I placed the order I asked if two pork chops came with meal, the woman said yes!! I understand that it was 45 minutes before closing but if they didn’t have the other chop at least let me know or offer something in place of the missing item.

I placed a call in order for (3dinner plates. When I got home, one of the dinner plates only had one side. I was missing a side of collard greens. In addition to that, none of our dinners came with corn bread. Which is usually standard. I tried calling to speak with someone. However, they are no longer excepting calls because they are closing within 30 minutes. I’m highly dissatisfied. I don’t think I’ll be dining here again.

My family and I visited on Saturday, 8/21/21. We were excited to see the place had a lot of people so we thought the food must be good. The food was just OKAY for us. We traveled from Middleburg to try this place. We spent almost $70 for 4 plates... Fried chicken, baked chicken, meatloaf and 8pc drumettes and an additional side of potato salad. I felt the price point for the amount of food given did not match. The portions we received were really small. We arrived there around 2pm and they were out of 3 items that we had initially wanted.. The gravy for the rice n gravy was not cooked all the way. It had a very raw flour or maybe powdered mix consistency. The fried chicken and drumettes were very dark. I do believe the grease needed to be changed. It left a bad taste to the meat. We did not finish the fried chicken.The Good:The staff was EXTREMELY friendly! The inside was clean and the outside was well maintained. They have Covid procedures in place and only allow a certain amount of people in the building at a time. They have adequate shaded outdoor seating (spaced outwhile you wait for your order to be called.

I wasnt satisfied at all. I ordered smothered pork chops, and the pork chops were not smothered at all. They had been fried to hard, the chops were very dry. The cornbread was dry, the rice and gravy wasnt seasoned. Im so disappointed..

My family and I were looking for a good Soul food meal so we decided to try this restaurant after seeing it posted on Facebook. A total fail. I ordered fried pork chops with Mac n cheese, collard greens, and a slice of pound cake, oxtails with dressing, and Mac n cheese, turkey wings with collard greens and field peas. We also tried the seafood salad and a side of chicken wings. The Mac n cheese was the best part of the meal. The pork chops were over cooked and extremely hard, the greens had a chemical taste to them and were FULL of stems and chewy. My daughter had the oxtails and they were chewy, salty, and just nasty. Also, they were $22 and there were only 2 bones with a ton of gravy. The dressing was awfully sweet. My husband said the turkey wings were just OK but he wouldn’t get them again. The seafood salad was OK. I didn’t like the texture of the pound cake. Overall, a waste of almost $100.

Got the chittlins and smothered pork chops. Chittlins had more Hog Maw than Chittlins so the price is too high. The Smothered Pork Chops were good and seasoned. The strawberry cake was ok. This was my 2nd time (before the remodel and after).

I had the fried porkchops and they were probably the best Ive ever had. Loved the mac and the green beans. Corn bread was also soft and delicious. The food was all very fresh and I will definately be coming back with friends. Definately the spot for soulfood in Jacksonville. Havent been to anyplace that compares

These folks served me suma the best Fried Chops w/ Mac cheese I ever had in my life. Wound up snagging the 6piece fried shrimp & pork chop meal though.. (includes 2 sides). Altogether meal was just shy $20 w/ drink.. a lil steep 4 lunch but well worth what u fixin 2 pay

Smothered pork chops, yams, and macaroni a& cheese was delicious!!! Meat was tender ans seasoned well..Yams were soft but firm and not overly sweet...Macaroni was very cheesy and firm but not watery which I hate..Im very impressed and definitely will go back.

The food was really great. The yams and greens had so much flavor. The rice and gravy was great. The pork chops were very delicious too. Everything taste exactly like home cooking not a restaurant masquerading as soul food. There was a bit of a wait but it was also very crowded but when the food taste like this its easy to see why.

I have a "thing" for rutabagas and not many soul food places locally (that Im aware ofhave them on the menu. Austins DOES!! The field peas and okra over yellow rice are another country favorite of mine!

This is one of the best places to eat soul food in Jacksonville. Friendly staff. Super clean dining room and restrooms!! Excellent atmosphere and music. We will definitely be back!

Nice little family owned restaurant food is pretty good I order the smothered shrimp havent tried anything else yet. Portions arent as hefty as the other soul food restaurants but its 👌 been here a few times. The only one that sells routabagas.

Very flavorful food spiced well. Good comfort food in a simple clean restaurant. Seems like more takeout compared to people sitting in. $10 bucks for a box meal.

This please is awesome as for the food. There only problem is they arent always open during business hours. And they dont answer the phone so you cant call ahead to find out. Ive wasted more trips trying to get something to eat from there then Ive actually been able to actually eat from there. Ive recommended them to many people. However my people went fine then a chance because they have never been able to catch then open. Some travel from surrounding counties. And o travel by public transportation or pay for a ride. I dont myself upset. But when I do catch them open Im very pleased.
