Aureola Mexican Cantina in San Juan

Vegetable enchiladas were literally steamed vegetables from a bag with four tortillas and cheese, something you could make at home or that your child could make for you. Two stars because my friends who got other meals with meat generally liked theirs. Also margaritas come with margarita mix which is a disgrace to the margarita.

This place rocks, great mojitos and the chicken tacos were great. The chips and salsa were incredible as well. Nice atmosphere too, very relaxing and cool.

Keep on walking….. honestly, it was a sad meal…. The vegetable enchiladas were what tasted like canned Veg-all with some broccoli thrown in…. I had chicken tacos, that seemed like Swanson canned chicken…. I really wanted to enjoy but it wasn’t possible….Keep on walking…..

I really hate to do this… because as someone who’s worked in restaurants and retail for 15 years I hate to complain… BUT.. this was probably the worst food I’ve ever had. We started the queso fundido which was basically mozzarella cheese melted into a bowl. You couldn’t dip the chips into it. I got the shrimp enchiladas and the red sauce was basically jarred salsa and the shrimp tasted off. My boyfriend said the cañitas in his enchilada was okay but again. The jar salsa instead of an enchilada sauce was weird. The refried beans was cold for both of us which was weird…The margarita was the worst.. all sour mix and I’m not at all picky about margaritas. Five of the six beers on the menu were unavailable which okay we could blame on the stuff going on in the world.The service is as just okay…I give them two stars because they savedtBoyfriends Fedora hat that he left at the table

I gave them two stars because the service was good and the waitress was very attentive. However, this was probably the worst Mexican food Ive ever had. Taco Bell is better quality. The Margarita was the worst Ive ever had and Ive never met a Margarita I couldnt drink. I took a sip and ended up ordering a beer. Speaking of beers, the only Mexican beer they had was Corona. If you dont like Corona youll be drinking local beer or Heineken which isnt bad but you kind of expect to be able to have Mexican Beer options other than Corona at a Mexican restaurant.Now the food. Ive had better Mexican food at an elementary school cafeteria in Florida. For salsa they use a sauce that I still believe to be a Ragu type spaghetti sauce. The taco shells are the cheap grocery store type and the seasoning is just blah. Disclaimer: Im not Mexican nor do I claim to be the expert on Mexican food but I have lived in Texas and California and know what a taco is supposed to taste like. This wasnt it.Again, youd be better served and will save a lot of $$ going to Taco Bell. Heres a run down of our check:2 - Orders of Tacos (each order consisted of three tacos and some chips)1 - Steak Burrito with Chips1 - Carnitas Enchiladas with Chips and 1 tablespoon each of refried beans, guacamole, and sour cream1 - Queso Fundido with Chorizo Appetizer1 - bottle of water1 - bottle of Perrier1 - Mojito1 - Margarita1 - MedallaTotal: $95I live in PR and I will never visit this place again. Sorry but not sorry.

Very good Mexican restaurant in old San juan! I loved their salad and soft taco. It was super delicious.

We went for carry out. Place is clean, pretty, and service was great. But food was not good at all. Even a fast food like taco maker serves better food. It didnt feel fresh and for sure there is not a chef in that kitchen.

The Salsa, Gucamole and Beans were all out of grocery store bought bottles/cans. Only fresh thing served was the vegetables in fajitas.. Everything else was grocery store processed food.

I would definitely recommend coming to this restaurant if your looking for good Mexican food and drinks. The staff was very friendly and efficient. The nachos were amazing and the fajitas were superb. 10/10 recommend.

Great food but the service is very slow

First off, our waitress did a great job. She was the only staff member we saw the entire time we were in the restaurant. As for the food...nothing about it could be considered authentic Mexican or Tex-Mex. The fish tacos were nothing more than a burned fish stick on lettuce and tomato, no sauce. The chicken enchiladas were ok, but the tortillas were overcooked. This review coming from Texans, and my wife is Mexican.

A vegetarians happy place! First off the two ladies working here were amazing and made some phenomenal mojitos for us. Secondly the beans here are vegetarian and the nacho plate/enchilada plate was packed with vegetables. Tables are spaced out well to adhere to social distancing and the ladies were thoroughly cleaning all the tables. Prime location in Old San Juan at San Sebastián Street. Please dont mind the negative reviews - the food was fresh/homemade and enjoyable. Love and would highly recommend!

I want to give 5 stars but the restaurant, bathroom and silverware werent as clean as it could have been. All of the French fries were overcooked to potato chip level and the chicken tenders also. However, the server was so kind!

Food is great and it is ready fast the people are nice I would come here any day just to say hi. If I were you I would come here.

We got chicken flaitas, shrimp enchiladas, & steak fajitas. All had No flavor. Manager argued instead of just taking the food & cashing us out. Do not recommend.

Generous portions served in a super cool restaurant. Loved the feel of this place, beer was cold as was the AC. We hit it on a super slow day so we had the place to ourselves. If you are looking for a good burrito and a cold beer, I don’t think you can go wrong.

Wow, very tasty chicken burrito, covered with melted cheese. I also had the chips with melted cheese also very good.

Our food came out horrible, 15 mins in between, cold and tasteless. Jennifer the manager comped the meal as we didnt eat it.

This restaurant played foul music the entire time we were there. The chicken quesadilla was good but don’t expect much toppings on the side to go with it. You had to pay for chips and salsa which I have never had to do at a Mexican restaurant.

Very nice. Large restaurant and bar. Pretty. Easy walk to museums and El Morro. Nachos are huge and tasty.

Stopped and looked at the menu and figured Id give it a try. This place is amazing! Our waiter, Jaime, was awesome. It isnt listed on the menu, but the Creme Brulee is that best Ive ever had, absolutely out of this world!

Extremely slow even with being the only customers. Food not good. Should have left when I saw them pooring Pace picante sauce from a jar into a bowl instead of freshly made salsa. Stay away!

Service was ok, however they had only one person for the bar and the dining area at the time we went. Additionally, if you are really into Mexican food well the food here feels more like is not fresh. The margaritas werent that great. We tried ordering multiple plates and drinks but everything disappointed. The only ok plate that we order was the Fajitas, steak chicken or Shrimp. I wouldnt recommend this restaurant to others.

Food is delish! The atmosphere is nice, but they had mainly one guy working the bar and serving as a waiter. He did a good job though. Great place for a good meal. Not just your typical Americanized Mexican restaurant.

Went in for the lunch special, thank you for having those by the way! The bartender was awesome, knew what he was doing making a fantastic mojito and was always working on something. Food came out great and tasted just as delicious!

Great food, great service and great margaritas. The appetizer sampler can easily serve two and very tasty. Waiter was very knowledgeable about local history. Nice area too, away from the corporate shops down the hill. Definitely worth stop.

My wife and I really enjoyed this small Mexican restaurant in Old San Juan. The Double Decker tacos were amazing and our waiter was extremely knowledgeable about Old San Juan and Puerto Rican history. Grab one of the maps they offer at the bar as it has drink coupons in it.

Excellent service & delicious food at reasonable prices. You couldnt ask for a better combination in all of old San Juan. Best Mexican food Ive had since leaving California. Ill even admit that their spanish rice is more flavorful than mine. Two of us ordered the chicken flautas and one ordered the carnitas burrito for an appetizer we had the queso fundido. Everything was excellent. Happy tummies all around. Ask for St Nick for your server, if possible. He had the best stories of the neighborhood.

Loved this place! Went with a group of 10, all food orders and drinks were properly served. Employees were amazingly sympathic and always paying attention.

Taco Bell has better Mexican food. "Burritos" are filled mostly with lettuce and sour cream, with shredded cheddar cheese melted on top. The salsa tastes exactly like Pace. Service is good. The space is generic but nice enough.

Great drinks! Fruit smoothies with rum, piña coladas were great on hot afternoon. Friendly server (Laura). Excellent tacos, burritos al pastor.
