Lets study "Atsuta Shrine" in advance. In the Nagoya area, "Atsuta Jingu" is called "Jingu". We recommend that you learn about the "history", "events", and "Kusanagi sword" at the shrine.

Serene and fascinating. It is said that Atsuta Jingu is one of the most important shrines in Japan. It houses one of the three imperial regalia that proves imperial succession, a sacred sword ~ the Kusanagi-no-Mitsurugi, which literally means “grass-mowing sword”.Aside from the interesting fact that one of the imperial regalia is a grass mowing sword, Atsuta Jingu in itself is a fascinating place to visit. It was founded in 113! That’s more than 1,900 years of history!

Great place to go with family/ friends. Its a place with a long history. Roughly it takes around 1 hour to cover the entire area. There are few restuarants and food stalls inside the premises. Washrooms available. Enough parking spaces available. I think evening is the best time to visit here.

Great location for a walk! Outdoor dinning is available. Bring bug spray or prepare to be eaten alive! The mosquitoes are terrible! We brought deep wood spray. The swords on display were great. However, the scared sword is not available for viewing.

Beautiful shrine, well kept. Amazing greenery around, especially the 1000+ year old conifers. Recreational/rest area for families with a pond and food was a first for me to see at a shrine, but it seemed well done and esp. the kids around seemed to be very happy with an area to play. Best entry is from the south, even if its a bit further to walk to from both Jingunishi & Jingu Mae stations.

One of the three big, important shrines in Japan. Beautiful green oasis in the city. Soak up some spiritual history. Ancient camphor laurel trees. The history boards along one part of the walkway near the museum, and the museum itself, aren’t set up for English speakers but a translate app helps to get the gist.

Big big shrine here. The inside area is large. Beautiful building. Very close to subway station. You got off the train and enter on the east side, then you walk through the whole shrine and get out on the west side there is another station there, make it very easy to get to and from.

One of the holiest places in all of Japan, rumored to hold the legendary sword Kusanagi. The shrine grounds themselves are fairly easy to navigate, and house the main shrine, a separate wishing plaque area, and a museum dedicated to Japanese treasures, swords in particular. Very highly recommended visit if you are in Nagoya.

The buildings are fairly new but walking around I. The woods was very nice. Be sure to take a walk to the right of the main building, and stop at the water shrine where you are supposed to make an offering and splash water on the moss covered rock. Continue on the path for a peaceful stroll.

Gorgeous shrine in Nagoya. Worth the trek from Nagoya station! I visited during pouring rain and it was still beautiful and pleasant. The sacred pathway is just gorgeous lined with huge trees and well marked path. I loved walking through it so much I walked through it twice. If you are visiting the Atsuta Jingu, be sure not to miss the nearby famous eel place and the famous sweets shop 尾張名古屋 亀屋芳広本店 Kameya Yoshihiro! The red bean deserts as well as the western deserts are just to-die-for!!This is a must visit for Nagoya!

The best place to learn about Shinto belief and culture. It is the second largest and most important shrine in Japan (the largest is the Great Shrine of Ise). Since over seventy (70festivals and ceremonies are being celebrated here yearly, more than nine million people visit this place every year. Because of its large size we have no idea where to go. Though a brochure is being distributed upon entrance, it is written in Japanese, and the signages inside are all written in Japanese (no English translation 🙁so we were really, really lost. We just looked in the drawings in the map to serve as our guide. The sacredness of the ground made the silence deafening. The deity enshrined here is Amaterasu-Oomikami which is represented by a sacred sword, the Kusanagi-no-tsurugi. The said sword is the most important treasure stored here and one of the three sacred treasures of the Imperial House. After several hours of strolling, you will learned and gained awareness on the deep faith of the ancestors taking care of the shrine as well as its long history.

One of my favorite shrines in Aichi-ken. The grounds are expansive and even when it is busy it feels calming and tranquil. The shrine also holds the sacred sword Kusanagi-no-tsurugi. There are many beautiful trees some that must be hundreds of years old. The buildings are beautiful and the shrine is so important historically it would be a shame to miss this one of a kind shrine.

It is said that this shrine was founded about 1900 years ago, during reign of Emperor Keikō (he is believed to be only legendary). The area is quite large, but you can cover it in two or three hours (if you visit the museum too). There is no entrance fee to the Shrine, not sure how about the museum-Treasure Hall. The Treasure Hall contains Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, which belongs to one of three Imperial Regalia of Japan (other two are in Ise and Tokyo). It can be easily reached by car (parking is available), or just by walk from Jingu Mae station or from Kanayama station, which takes about 30 minutes by walk. There are few toilets, vending machines and restaurants (near a pond, where you can spot turtles and also Koi carps).

Easily one of the most beautiful shrines in Japan.Atsuta Shrine is home to one of the three great Shinto treasures. There are also plenty of festivals held here during the year, the main two being New Years and Atsuta Festival. Its pretty crazy in the area during those times, but definitely worth a visit if you can.

It is a very lovely garden worth walking around with beautiful tori gates. If you are passed for time it is not a must see. We were told it is respectful to bow to the front of the gates prior crossing through the gate. As with most shrines, you can only see the outside of the building which is said to house to host one of three sacred relics of Japan (a sword). It is a nice stroll through the gardens outside and you can get some good food from the shipping centre next to the shrine grounds.
