Well-known destination for elevated Asian & Malaysian dishes in a cozy, unassuming atmosphere.
Much in love with the sweet and sour deep fried pork and spicy tofu fish. These two are way too decent!
Great Chinese food that actually reminds me of my time in Shanghai, especially the cauliflower dish. The dumplings were wonderful and the boychoi as well. Waiting staff were pleasant and kind.
Horrible service, unacceptable slow kitchen. Waited for 45 minutes for a take out order. An uncaring general attitude by the front of the house staff. Avoid, avoid, avoid!!
Cozy place for family/friends dinner. Well-served all dishes. We ordered crispy chicken with red chili peppers; braised fish fillet with Chinese sauerkraut and stir-fried cabbage.
Dined in person 2 weeks ago on Friday night and food was fantastic. Ordered the exact same thing via Uber eats pickup tonight and everything was utterly disgusting.Either they got a different chef or inflation is really transitory and the economy will be just fine.
Very savory! Authentic flavors and variety of choices. Will come again!
Gave me terrible food poisoning. My friend and I ended up vomiting and p**ping our brains out the next morning.Really expensive way to get sick
A gem in the Upper West Side. You dont have to travel to Chinatown for the best scallion pancakes... no, this place is it! I was so impressed with the crispy texture of the pancakes. It was my first time eating Dan Dan Noodles and the "three vegetables" dish. Ill be going back for this exact meal. The dishes were so flavorful and well-cooked.
The online prices were about 10% higher than on the takeout menu I had just picked up an hour earlier. In addition, they didnt give me the advertised discount for ordering online When I pointed that out they actually ARGUED with me and when I walked away they followed me outside to continue the argument. Incredible!
Tasty authentic Chinese food. It’s expensive for lunch, and they charged extra for a small bowl of ordinary rice! However, the food was very good and perhaps it wouldn’t feel as pricey at dinner. Lots of Chinese people eating there, many of whom appeared to be Columbia students. If you’re looking for standard Chinese American food, this is not the place for you. Only one bathroom and it was not clean. Regardless, I’m looking forward to eating here again.
this was so completely disappointing on so many levelsRibs were tiny and impossible to eat. Shrimp with garlic puree tasted almost medicinal, Cauliflower with pork has three slices of pork and the shanghai rolls were nearly tasteless - bad....
I’ve had delivery from them twice and everything was delicious. The fish fillet has been a particular highlight 👍
Cozy authentic Asian cuisine. Fast and attentive service!
Food is very delicious. Love every dishes we ordered. Pork belly, Spicy beef is so flavorful. Eight Delicacies Rice Pudding dessert is also a perfect ending. Love this place.
One of the best Chinese restaurants in UWS, or even in NYC. Food is very close to authentic Chinese food. Will go there again.
Very busy Chinese restaurant. Food flavor is ok. But service is very slow, waited for a long time for dishes.
Delicious food and excellent service. The ambience was great and the friendly staff helped us choose a lot of deliciousness. Will be back soon.
This was one of the best meals weve had. Excellent service, ambience and food! We will definitely be back and probably become regulars.
Its great, I ordered my favorite food, fresh and correct!Very fast, and will continue
The food here is Michelin star worthy — I believe they have been recognized by Michelin as Bib Gourmand restaurant. The rose black tea in particular was incredibly delicious. They wouldn’t let us know where they sourced the tea from though, lol, but I guess it’s part of the secrets of the trade. The rest of the food was great but not as great as the first time that we went there. The floor was incredibly waxy and slippery so that felt very dangerous. Otherwise it was overall a good experience.
New opening near Columbia. Spicy cauliflower is the best. Other spicy food also good.
Perfect service, perfect food, 10/10 will visit again. Would recommend to anyone in the area if you are looking for a great restaurant.
Solid food but overpriced. Everything was very flavorful and the spice got to me eventually that everything tasted kind of numb. Wished the pork trotters werent cut up so small. The fried rice was a little too oily, but I have no complaints about the cauliflower.
We went at a weird time so it was pretty empty. The food was great and the service was decent as well. Nothing mind blowing but I’d def come back:)
Fabulous waitress staff!! Always treat us like family! Great food, friendly service!! Tables are spaced out nicely!! Felt very safe dining here!!
I don’t write reviews unless something is wrong.Cons: not clean crab? Ordered the crab soup and got diarrhea right after like an hour! Ate nothing besides the soup. Called the restaurant and they just said the crab is limited supply and they are not aware of issues! I’m never allergic to seafood.Pros: Good service. Nice location and decoration.
Its decent Chinese food near Columbia. Environment and vibe are great but the food is homecooking standard (Im Chinese). Theres better Chinese restaurants in Manhattan but this place is pretty decent considering its proximity to the university. The squirrel fish is not great but the vermicelli noodles (卤粉), 藤椒鸡 and 西湖牛肉羹 are great
A small and nice Chinese restaurant. We were here on a Thursday night a few minutes before our reserved time. They weren’t too busy and there were empty tables, so they were able to seat us right away. Most of the patrons were college kids I’m guessing from Columbia because it’s so near.We ordered an eclectic collection of dishes. Everything was fresh and delicious.Their “appetizer chef” hadn’t shown up that day for some reason, so they couldn’t rustle up a couple of items we would’ve loved to order. Other than that, it was good real Chinese food.
Ordered from Uber eats since I’m feeling under the weather, and my food arrived at my door less than 15 min later (no exaggeration!I got the stir fried cabbage and the chicken soup with ginseng. The cabbage is absolutely delicious with a little bit of kick from dried chili, not overcooked at all. The soup itself is very very mild, so if I wasn’t sick I might find it too simple but it’s perfect for me right now. The broth is flavorful, although I can’t taste the ginseng. The chicken is segments of drumstick with bone in so there’s not a lot of meat but it is well cooked and tender. Plus the portions are BIG - one soup order came in two quart-sized containers. Can’t wait to get better and try out more of the menu in person!!
Terrible squirrel fish. Waited an hour without any prior warning of the wait time. Pieces too fishy, sauce is too sweet and has no sour taste in it. Not to mention the presentation - this is probably his/her first time making this and fish is more like a scrambled fish pieces.
Full of Chinese people means that this restaurant is very good and it was very good. It was a bit salty for me but I am definitely going back. Portion is very large so I had take half of the food home. Totally recommend this place.
Love the food here! Very delicious and reasonably priced. I have brought a lot of family members/colleagues and friends, they like them very much, and keep coming back. It is very worthwhile, and I strongly recommend that you do this.
First time dine in at Altas kitchen, I was amazed by how incredible everything was. They served authentic Chinese food, super tasty. The service was beyond excellent. Can’t wait to try more dishes from the menu!
A great experience of Chinese fine dining with friends. Every single dish that we ordered was beautifully presented and filled with a wonderful depth and complexity of flavors. The atmosphere is relaxed and the dining room is elegant without being stuffy. Service was formal but friendly. Will definitely come back for a special event.
my taste buds are offended, Overpriced & under seasoned food. I ordered via ubereats. $15 for tasteless cheap cabbage!? It wasnt even remotely spicy, neither was the "spicy dried tofu" I was really disappointed in my meal and felt like I wasted money on substandard food. Ill just walk to Flushing Queens.
Atlas Kitchen is back after a 7mo Covid hiatus. So why are you--my UWS friends--still dining at dumpy standbys in the W. 80s & 70s? Atlas is real Chinese food by a truly inventive chef. Pictured here is the other-worldly cumin lamb, mustard greens w- bok choy, and a pork soup for the picky eater at the table. Yes, many of us will need to challenge ourselves and order the pig trotter & fish head entrees recommended by Eater & others; it was just my 1st visit, so will need the company of other adventurous diners to make those entrees worth it. Attentive, friendly service. Pretty, calm-inducing decor. And all Covid dining rules were being followed.
Instead of trying to replicate the business models of SG/HHH and the likes, Atlas is a valuable addition to UWS community for providing a premium option of classic Szechuan cuisine. The vibe makes it an excellent place to introduce authentic Szechuan food to friends, and the food has so far been consistently good. Waitstaffs are helpful. Their unique "green" spicy boiled fish is a great place to start, although you might have to specifically ask for it and it sometimes disappear from the menu. Stay away from things like potato with vegetable.
The best chic restaurant near the university!!! Variety of choices of dishes - chicken, pork, beef, sea food - you name it! Definitely in love with the vibe, decorations, and the food. The wall painting is from artist Qiu An Xiong whose work was collected by MoMA. A rare see immersive artsy dining experience! You need to be here as many times as you can to explore the full menu.Absolutely a must go!
Beautiful, clean, affordable and great service. I can tell the owner and the management team poured lots of heart into it. The food is great too. Cant believe that some of the reviews here are so negative. My favorite dish there is the dry wok cauliflower and Ill highly recommend it no matter you like authentic Chinese food or not.
Eggplant with egg yolk, too salty and full of egg yolks, sweet and sour pork, tasty, Dan Dan noodles, light
Best Chinese in the city! We lived in China and have been hunting for the real deal ever since. The cauliflower is perfection and the eggplant with peppers and potatoes was my favorite. Our server was so kind and patient with all our questions.
This place was so good and authentic, I had to get here to leave my very first review. Lovely gentle atmosphere and our waiter was so helpful in explaining what was what on the menu. He helped me identify on the menu what I liked from the food photos.
We found this new restaurant because our friend did the graphic design for them. I heard some rumor saying the founders are two Columbia University students. No matter it is true or not, they obviously have a very good taste in design and food. The dishes are well prepared and also taste good. Price a little high tho 😀
I really like the interior design. It is classic and elegant. The food is kinda good. BUT we waited forever to have our food served! The waiters were slow. Really a waste of time. ( above is my review in Nov. 2018, below is my updates after my second visit in March 2019The serving speed is much better than before and food is pretty good. I recommend for special occasions or group gatherings, cause I think it’s a little overpriced for students (since it’s near Columbia University)
I think the best part of this restaurant is the interior design. It jumps out of the traditional interior that most Chinese restaurant have in NYC. The modernism corporates with the authentic Sichuan food well. If you look at the menu carefully and if you can read Chinese, you could find the name of the dish borrows elements from Chinese classics, very interesting.
This restaurant was sooooo good!! Foods are soooo delicious!!!!!! The environment is really nice!!! You must go and have to try every single dishes!!!!!
This is the best Chinese food I have ever eaten in New York! ! ! First of all, the environment of this restaurant made me shine. Secondly, their service was very warm and gave me a feeling of home! Finally, its their dishes that look very delicious and their food is delicious! I think they are better than many Michelin restaurants!
Amazing authentic Szechuan cuisine! Great service as well. Even better than what we normally get in China. Highly recommend.
The most authentic Chinese restaurant ever around the Columbia campus. Love the environment. I had lamb w/ radish and Chinese yam. Delicious!
This restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Food was incredible and definitely the most authentic Chinese food in town. Waiters were very friendly and helpful. Interior design was so pretty that integrated the concept of Chinese mythology “The Classic of Mountains and Seas”. I was impressed by a lot of the details. It’s a perfect place for a nice meal and afternoon tea. I like every dish that we ordered and can’t wait to try more next time!🍾️
