Rustic, timber-clad eatery offering comfort fare & pub grub such as burgers plus ample brews.
Food was ok, drinks expensive...£4.50 for a can of beer. Worst thing was having to sit basically outside on very uncomfortable seats with useless heaters behind your head. Cold and dark with cobwebs hanging off metal framework and pipes....not a nice experience.
Thanks Tina for a lovely evening. Food was excellent and the waiting staff very efficient and polite, just the right balance. Sat outside in the covered area which was lovely. Definitely try the cheesecakes for dessert if you get the opportunity - amazing! Thanks again everyone and see you soon!
Food was excellent, staff were polite. The lady who owns the place was lovely. Anything we wanted was no trouble
Lovely place, great food and the staff are so welcoming it feels like your part if the family. So flexible on the menu and very very accommodating! Truly cant fault this place!
Warm welcome, friendly service. Food was fresh and delicious. Lovely setting. Little gem in ipswich.
My partner and I ate here this evening and we were not disappointed.The.food was amazing, along with the attention to detail. Linen napkins, polished glasses clean table cloths. Friendly welcome when you arrive and lovely court yard area.Portion sizes are generous and prices are very reasonable food is cooked to order,We have booked for next week to bring family to this little gem of a findI would have taken photos of the dessert too but it smelt and looked so good we dived straight in
What a fabulous restaurant, came over and dined with friends, and what a gem this place is . Delicious food, thank you to Tina, Ben and staff for looking after us so we’ll . Looking forward to the next time soon
We had dinner here on Monday evening which turned out to be semi busy but service was still excellent despite only having one waitress attend to everyone. I must say the food was cooked to quite a high standard both starters and mains were definitely at a higher standard than your typical pub grill. The desert didnt live to its billing unfortunately but the rest of the course was good. Solid 4 star 🌟 and a definite recommendation for a local
Great little restaurant, service was excellent as was the food! Huge portions...Will be back
Came here a few days ago and had an amazing experience, super attentive staff that provide a great service, and exceptional food made with locally sourced ingredients made for an absolutely great time, special shout out to Abbie who was lovely and made sure everything about my experience was 5 stars. I will definitely be visiting again.
Great find this restaurant. Good food and good service. Well priced. The steak was excellent!!
We went for my hen do last week :My friends booked the outside area. It was decorated really lovely for me! The food was fab and they had made an extra effort to produce a vegan menu. I had an avocado salad, caluliflower steak and tasty desert, all vegan and it was lovely! Staff where lovely and friendly and they made some fab cocktails, also the chef came out to see us which was really sweet. Thankyou so much for the lovely evening and all the effort put in. I felt very special!
Had dinner here for the first time last weekend and was a great experience. Very friendly and helpful waiting staff and the food was delicious. Its clear they are using fresh and local ingredients but they keep the prices affordable. Overall, would thoroughly recommend especially in the summer as they have a lovely garden!
Excellent friendly service and high quality deliciously cooked food. Beautiful historic building.
We had a lovely lunch time meal, we had a voucher which our daughter bought us last year, unfortunately it was out of date, because of the pandemic they honoured it, we were very grateful as it was our wedding anniversary, would really recommend this place to eat,
First of all, food quality was great, and served relatively fast, too. However the most unpleasant factor was the whole restaurant being too smoky, to the extent in which your throat slightly burns from inhaling all the smoke. Moreover, the waiter had limited information about the menu, and several items from the drinks menu was not on stock.Still a good experience, albeit a bit on the expensive side.
Upstair enviroment is super cozy, perfect for a intimate dinner.Had the lamb shank, it was good.Service was average.
I was I two minds whether to recommend this restaurant, the first selfish reason was that I wanted to be able to easily get a table whenever I wanted, and recommendation would mean more customers, excellent for The Grill, not so excellent for us!I have a feeling that I will have to book far in advance as this place is so good. I then thought that as we had such an amazing time that I really should let others know about how good The Grill really is!Great family owned and run restaurant, service brilliant, no request was too difficult or too much trouble. Felt like royalty and the attentive staff made things so comfortable. The food all cooked to order, fresh ingredients and served hot was excellent and a long way away from chain restaurant tepid bland fare. The chef cooked everything to order and to perfection and followed special dietary requests without any issues so if you fancy a change from the normal high street food factories and want to have some really excellent dishes I would highly recommend. We have found a brilliant place and cant wait to visit again. Cannot recommend highly enough and have never given more than 4 stars before, 5 should only be used for the exceptional and this restaurant is superb.
Imagine you want a steak for a particular reason, only I know that reason! Well Juliana enjoyed a tale of the unexpected a sirloin steak which she covered it in peppercorn sauce Absolutely 💯 % delicious.......... the story continues
We went here a couple of Saturdays ago, our first time, food fantastic, service very attentive, we will 100% be our new favourite place to dine
Fantastic food only bettered by wonderful service. Tina and her gang really went all out to make sure we were well looked after. Brilliant evening. Thank you all.
Burger was very nice however the "triple cooked chips" were far too floppy for something that had been cooked 3 times and were very greasy. No larger on tap and only have 330ml bottles
Would definitely recommend this place. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The food was excellent and the staff so friendly. This will be our new favourite place to eat.
Lovely place very friendly polite waitress (owners daughter I thinkand excellent food. Nicest steak Ive had for a long while
Very kively food and service but a bit too pricey for my liking. Cost around 90 for 3 courses for me and my partner with drinks
I was slightly disappointed by our recent visit. It took an awfully long time to order drinks, a wine menu hadnt been included along with the other menus which delayed things further. Food took an incredibly long time to be served. Someone did apologise twice for the wait which is nicer than just being left wondering. I ordered the slow cooked crispy pork belly, there was nothing crispy about it but after an hour and 15 minute wait I was too hungry to complain. To be fair it tasted lovely and the sides where incredible.Im not sure if it was busy evening which caused slow service or if people are still trying to find their rhythm after lockdown but whilst the food was nice the service could have been better.
Staff very friendly, food was nice however some meals over cook still a nice place to go
We had my wifes graduation dinner and loved it! The team were fantastic, the food was great and the venue is brilliant. Definitely recommend it anyone. Thanks guys
Wow, ive heard great things about The Grill @twenty5 since lockdown, so today we tried it! Totally amazing high quality food with good portion size, nothing was too much for the staff, realy friendly atmosphere and great value for money! Clean and fresh throughout, could find nothing to fault! From my experience the person who left the previous review MUST be confusing it with a local kebab shop or something,
Did not live upto the amazing reviewsWhen we first walked in we werent greeted straight away and it was awkwardThe squid starter was under cooked and smothered in mayo, the king prawns were small and there were only four in a portionSteak was cooked nicely but nothing amazing for the price, standard mushroom and tomato and the chips were underdone, not triple cooked as describedThe waitress didnt know the menu when we asked questions and when were finished we were left at the table and wondering when we would get the bill, so in the end we had to go downstairs to payWhen we went downstairs it felt like we just walked into a student accommodation, staff just sitting around talking and we got the same awkward stare like when we arrivedA girl had to get up to take the squid of the bill and moaned and huffed and puffed that she had to get up and serve us, really bad attitude and no consideration for the customer at allI really dont understand how there are all these amazing reviews on the food and service when what we experienced was shocking and left a LOT to be desired. We were the only ones in the restaurant so there was really no excuse 👎
Nice restaurant, menu is very meat heavy with limited fish and vegetarian options under the management which was a shame. The outdoor dining although very nice, was not very well heated on right side.
Amazing dinner on Saturday night! Despite the place being totally full, so glad we made our booking, it was brilliant. The service was excellent and the food was delicious and reasonably priced. The young staff coped very well under pressure due to an extremely difficult table of customers who endlessly complained just for the sake of complaining and clearly with a view to try and get a free dinner. It was shameful behaviour on the customers part and very well handled by the owner of the restaurant.
We have always enjoyed coming to At twenty5 with friends and family. However, after my visit with my 8 friends Saturday evening we will not be returning!!We arrived at 7.30pm and seated at our table, which was extremely tightly tucked away upstairs in the corner. We didnt mind so stayed where we was and chose not to bring it to the managements attention. However, the table was not laid correctly, 3 sets of currently missing which we had to ask for on 5 occasions, the table was missing wine glasses too.We had already pre ordered . One of our party is Gluten Free. at no point did the waiter or Tina the manager/owner ask who that might of been.We ordered our drinks, well 4 of us as the waiter forgot to ask one of the party. finally the drinks arrived after 10 minute wait. Then the other drinks was then ordered.or Starters arrived 45 minutes after arriving. The lady who was gluten free asked if the starter was definitely gluten free, the response was "errrmmm i think so" "ill check" a waiter came up and said "i dont know so we will cook it again" the manager brings up the starter 5 minutes later, we had all waited for the starter to come, our starters was cold by this point. after we had finished it had taken the staff 20 minutes to come and clear the plates. We was not asked if they was ok at all. neither was we asked if we wanted more drinks. we had to ask for someone to take our order. The drinks arrived a couple of minutes later. One of our party went to the toilet, the walls have polyfiller in them, the sink was dirty, there was a salt grinder on the toilet! the toilet seat was covered in stale urine where women and men have to use one toilet only. The second toilet was "out of order" but the door was wide open. The toilet was being used as a storage area/changing room for the staff, which gave out an unpleasant smell.our main course arrived an hour and 40 minutes after our starters was cleared, cutlery then arrived after we had asked for it. we had to wait for the last meal to be finished being cooked. so again had to wait until we all received our meals before we started. The chips were raw, still hard to cut and bite. The two steaks that was ordered were wrong. the Medium rare came out rare. the Medium well that was ordered came out rare too. that one was sent back, to be sent out AGAIN RARE!! the mushrooms served on the side had not been cooked, the peppercorn sauce was congealed within the jug that it could not be poured. One of our party ordered Salmon, it was raw inside! It was supposed to be served with crushed spicy potatoes and tender stem broccoli it was served with 3 new potatoes in butter and 3 overdone asparagus. It was questioned, the response was....this is what it is being served with now. but not once was we made aware of the changes. On the email confirmation it also stated different too. for the tiny portion it was £15.95 for 7 items.!!Another lady ordered the risotto, it can only be described as rice (too much of itwith spinach 4 button mushrooms and cream, it was awful. this was sent back, nothing further was ordered. Could the chef be a chef or was there no one who knew how to cook the meals? The lady in our party who was gluten free was brought her fish and chips, again no knowledge as to if it was gluten free batter.!! Did the staff understand the request? There was never a point where we was asked if everything was ok, did we need any more drinks. nothing. We was understandably upset and annoyed, we brought it to the attention of the owner Tina. There was no apology, the only response we received was "we are busy this evening if you are not aware" this was beyond professional. The meal was ruined. Our evening was ruined. The manager came up and said "i have taken everything off" that was it, no apology again!Since being taken over from the old owners the restaurant has gone down hill considerably. which is a shame.I will not be returning!
We recently ate here as a group of 3 and were warmly greeted and seated. This is a small restaurant therefore advanced booking is advisable, especially for larger groups. We were seated downstairs near a coffee grinder, but on the two occasions that it was used, staff apologised for the noise when they had to use it in short bursts. The menu is relatively compact, and priced towards the top end of the scale, but is all freshly cooked to order in the open kitchen area downstairs and we felt it provided value for money.Service was prompt, attentive and very friendly throughout our visit - nothing was too much trouble. We wouldnt hesitate to book and eat here again.
Really enjoyed meal at this cosy little restaurant. Friendly staff. I had fish of the day which was pan fried fillet of salmon with new potatoes and asparagus. Simple but delicious.
We popped in for a bite and were very pleasantly surprised at the warm welcome we received as we walked through the door. We were seated upstairs in the beautiful 400 year old building with exposed beams. The starter were generous and very tasty....mains were great portions and perfectly cooked also delicious. The service was exemplary but friendly A very enjoyable experience all round...would come back and recommend x
Really nice food and friendly service. Went for date night on a Tuesday evening at 8.30pm (we have young kids so dont get out muchand we had the place to ourselves. The burger then cookies and cream cheesecake were REALLY good. I will definitely go back.
I recommend this place for a nice homemade burger I went with a friend she had the meat burger I had the vegetarian burger they are both very nice
Had a really lovely meal, food was fantastic, service was excellent. Considering we were a large party we were looked after very well. Pricing is a bit expensive for the amount of food though, but all around lovely meal.
Lovely if not slightly expensive food but poor surroundings on outside tables. First table broken and top wobbly, there only seemed to be two salt and pepper for the many tables . The wine didnt come and appeared to have been forgotten. Friendly and attentive staff but we would think hard about returning.
Couldnt rate this place highly enough. The staff were fantastic and the food was amazing. Perfectly cooked steak. Really nice family run restaurant.
Really lovely place to eat, food was amazing couldnt fault it. The place wasnt busy at about 2pm but I imagine it is Im the evenings. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Small menu that is reasonably expensive but worth it.
Most amazing restaurant in Ipswich! If you have not been here you are missing out
A wonderful gem in the centre of Ipswich. The downstairs is tiny, but the service and food was amazing. Our waitress served us with a smile, was very friendly and polite and really helpful (especially when I wanted an option for the menu but replacing half of it with the sides from another option: yes, I was awkward, but I was accommodated with a smile making me feel like I wasnt being awkward). Food came in good time and was cooked perfectly. The chef didna great job, and he was very polite and friendly as we saw him once finished. We did not stay for dessert, not because the options were not good enough, but simply because our starter and main had filled us up that looking at the dessert menu we knew we couldnt eat more.If I am in Ipswich again, I probably wont consider trying another restaurant.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was top notch. I had the lunch menu sausage and mash, and Im full up. No tea needed for me tonight!
What a fantastic family run restaurant, set in a gorgeous quaint town building in a lovely part of town.Amazing freshly cooked food, beautifully presented and reasonably priced, considering there was 9 of us we did not have to wait long at all for our food to be served. The staff were brilliant, friendly and welcoming.I will definitely be returning and recommending this place.Thank you for a lovely meal on my birthday. :-)
Some of the friendliest staff in Ipswich! I came in from the US and this was the first place a came across that was open. One of the waitresses, Sarah, was incredibly helpful for finding new things to do in town. I ended up getting some amazing seafood risotto with a large glass of pinot gris, it was delicious!
This is my favourite restaurant in Ipswich. The food is so fresh and tasty! The menu is not very big so that they can specialise on their signature dishes. They always have got specials available depending on the fresh produce available. The staff are also very friendly and the service is great. 100% recommendable. You only have to be aware that you will have to book in advance because it is always full!
Ive been here on numerous occasions and @25 had never disappointed. Still the best steaks in Ipswich and they always have an eclectic mix of specials... Well with a visit and on St. Nicholas street, its close to the town centre, council parking is across the road and is free after six pm.
Great place to eat. service was excellent too.Food was excellent value, 2 people 3 courses with drinks less than £60.outdoor area is nice but sit away from the back door as it gets noisy when they empty the glasses in the glass bin!
