Manteqet as Sad Al Aali, Qism Aswan, Aswan Governorate, Egypt, Aswan
Landmark Nile dam, first built by the British in 1898, with a new bigger version completed in 1970.
The Dam and the History is an awesome History lesson. Increased my knowledge and appreciation. Very worthwhile.
qiuet amazing project but not that beautiful except the beautiful symbol there too much security sometimes annoying nothing new still collecting money with no upgrades
Vivid embodiment of power and might of the Soviet Union designers thought, monumental project combining state of the art technological solutions and eco approach during construction of the Damb. Glory!
One of the most important projects to Egypt
High Dam is one of the most significant benchmarks for Aswan
This place describe The historical story oh the great High Dam and The story of the sacrifice of the Egyptian people in building this great dam . On one side you can see one of the largest manmade lakes in the world (Nassers lakeand the other you can see all the way down to the old dam and The symbol of friendship between the founding countries
This is a very important project for the Egyptians. This place is well guarded. Its Egypts lifeline to the economy so you need to read a bit about it before you visit. Otherwise itll be a huge disappointment for you as a tourist.
This was really a huge dam situated in the outskirts of Aswan. It is almost 1 km wide at the base of the dam. It serves 2 purposes as water reservoir and also as power house of Aswan (Hydro Power station on the downstream side). This dam was sponsored by Russia and has a strategic importance due to which you can find military defense at the entrance of the dam. There is a huge monument symbolizing the Russian support to built this dam.Good place to take some photos... Can spent 10 to 15 mins maximum..Visited as a family in Apr-2022
An impressive structure, but, as a tourist, rather boring. Many tours stop here, if youre in Aswan.
Interesting but not much to see
Pretty underwhelming experience. After paying 100EGP expected at least a proper information centre not just a few old boards with a few photos and diagrams. Not worth the time or expense.
I have been visited Aswan for one night during my holiday in Luxor I have been to different places one of them its Aswan High Dam
I love hights and I was surprised that i could climb the monument tower by lift. The view in every direction was a history on its own.
Found this a bit of a tourist trap!It is just a Dam, as most other countries have, maybe this one is bigger than you have seen. But in reality there is little that would attract anyone here, plus you have to pay 100EGP to "visit" (cross). If you are.coming on purpose, Id save the time and money and go elsewhere (theres so much to.see.thatnis worth in Egypt!).
The dam is a real and impressive way to control Egypts floadings, not very much to see, except lake Nazzer in one side and the Nile River in the other.
Huge tame that stopped Nile to spread its waters and kept crocodiles an Nesars lake
Very nice place and great historical experience
The Aswan high dam is an optional stop if you are travelling through Egypt, but I would recommended taking a look if you have prior knowledge about its history or an interest in engineering and alternative energy. The story is interesting and it marks a tangible change of priorities in Egypt. One one side you can see one of the largest manmade lakes and the other you can see all the way down to the old dam and Filae. There is also a monument that honors the Soviet Union for their help creating the dam.
Excellent visit for one of our major projects... its the high Dam which we built with our shoulders... when all countries refused to help.. we are proud of it.
It was amazing and nice but the bad side that certainly in that place there isnt a lot to do, theres only viewing the high dam
Very nice sights, prices are kinda high above all Aswans normal rates
Great view but there no much to see, i stayed for almost five minutes, just took pictures, thats all, you need to take a driver with you if you are not with tour group and a car or bus, or you can take uber driver but let him stays with you for turning back, but it will cost too much for you to stay for five minutes
Interesting if you like hearing about engineering and Soviet-Egyptian collaboration. The view at the top is quite breathtaking.
One of the most important mega projects for Egypt, protecting the country from flooding of the Nile every year and generating electricity.⚡🔌I encourage you to also visit the Nile museum to understand everything about the Nile river and the history of the high dam.
Good place to take a photos and see how geat high dam is.
An amazing and vital engineered dam for Egypt serving the country with both power and water! Its an extension for the great work done by the ancient Egyptian by the modern Egyptian and creating behind the dam one of the biggest lakes ever!
Area full of attraction and sightseeing, have to visit.
A magical place, an achievement to the pharaohs’ descendants, a guardian for Egypt to protect from the flood or a safe storage to keep the flow in the times of need, a spark to light a country.
A beautiful place. Amazing to see the different bodies of water. The dam is protected by the military. A nice contrast to the miles and miles of desert present.
Biggest achievement of all time in novel Egyptian history. Being on the high dam made me feel so proud of myself, my country and my grandparents who constructed the high dam. All my praises to the previous two presidents who supported the dam construction Gamal Abdelnasser and Mohammed Anwar Elsadat 😍😍😍
Though it looks like any other dam, the Aswan High Dam has great significance for the Egyptian people. Built in the 1950s, taking almost 20 years to complete, the dam not only stopped the annual flooding of the Nile, it also helped the Egyptian people preserve many of the beautiful temples and other edifices that were threatened by the recurring flood waters.Having taken the help of the international cooperation of friendly countries, famous temples such as Abu Simbel and the Philae Temples, as well as smaller ones such as kalabsha, Beit el Wali, and the like were saved. This dam also helped create the beautiful 800km long, Nasser Lake, which is extremely picturesque as well.On the dam itself is a majestic structure depicting the friendship and cooperation between the Soviet Union and Egypt. There is a stand right on the dam where the tourist buses stop. Here, you can take pictures and buy light refreshments.
It was a beautiful experience to cross over the Aswan dam while we were in the cruise ship from Luxor to Aswan, it was very nice to see how such a big ship passes from the dam. We also got a chance to go to the nearest point to take a view at it. So our bus stopped on one side of the road and I got to view the dam. there was a way through the Ramp on one side of the dam but from the other side there was a very high step and I could not find a way through a ramp for many metres but I was happy that there was a beautiful view from the road itself.
The High Dam and Aswan Lake are engineering marvels. I learned that the building of the Lake misplaced the Nubian people. The Nubian people have not been adequately compensated. The Egyptian government has not fulfilled the agreement it made with the Nubian people before the start of the project.
Amazing breath taking place had wonderful time and definitely will go back 🥰🥰🥰
Great view of naser lake and high dam in aswan to show great work which protect Egypt land from the flood which used to destroy the land till cairo when the rain season start in origin of the nileAlso it was one of major source for electricity in egypt
A fine example of engineering technology, because with this dam they restrained only the worlds longest river. However, the dam does not look very spectacular. The view of Lake Nasser is perhaps more attractive.
High Dam in Aswan is a pride moment for every Egyptian and they should be proud. Its just so amazing. As its a place of national security, photography is not allowed here. U can spend maximum half an hour here, nothing much to do, just observe the high dam, read about the construction history and thats about it. Its not too far away from the Aswan City so not too much trouble.Do visit
Waste of time to go there. Cannot see muchThere is no visitor centre or explanation. Had to pay 75 Egyptian pound for entrance as well.
Aswan Dam built on the Nile, may be extremely important for the the economy and prosperity of Egypt. But so far as a place of tourist attraction is concerned there is nothing much to recommend it.Aswan Dam is built across River Nile between relatively low hills. There is no greenery. All around you see barren dry and brown land. Not at all pleasing to the eyes. Dam itself is not at all impressive. Not like some of the other dams which are built on deep valleys amongst high mountains with impressive height and good view. There is a visitors centre almost at the centre of the dam. Lots of information boards have been installed which give detailed information and history of the dam. From the boards we come to know that Aswan Dam is an embankment dam. Its height is 364 ft, has length of almost 4 km, its width at the base is 3200 ft. Aswan dam was built over a period of 10 years, from 1960 to 1970.Associated hydro electric power station has installed capacity of 2100 MW.Another noteworthy fact is, impounded Nile River created a huge reservoir almost 550 km long and an area of about 5200 sq kms It was named Lake Nasser after the President of Egypt at that time.Other than the information boards at visitor centre and Russia - Egypt Friendship Memorial there is nothing to see.Wont miss much of you dont visit it.
Not much to see, although its quite cool to see the huge lake on one side, and a small river on the other. Therere some posters with the old construction photos, but wont take you more that 10 min to see it all.
Aswan dam seperates the Nile from Lake Nasser. Great construction. No photography allowed except in a small designated area. And NO video allowed at all.
Great engineering work. Good to visit the "Egyptian Soviet Friendship" symbol which is tower that has good views and an amazing architecture. You feel like you are back in the Nasser 60s era.
Interesting if you enjoy seeing engineering feats... Probably best to visit with a guide who can tell you a bit about the dam. Pretty views from the top.
One of the great dams of the world and worth a trip if you are in the area. I would not make a detour like I would for Hoover Dam, but if you are in the area...If you are not into engineering, the area is pretty. Nice views of the military monument.Biggest draw for me is the lack of peddlers. The security presence on the dam is high, and I guess this keeps them away.
It was neat to learn about the history of the dam. Beautiful views and nice information boards. Definitely worth a visit. The Egyptians are really proud of this achievement which has a great impact in their culture and economy .
Its an interesting spot, near Aswan by car. You can learn about some of Egypts modern history and engineering works. The lake has a nice view
Standing on one of the most breakthrough dams in the world is certainly a must. But you should also visit the friendship tower to see a better top view of the river, the dam, and Lake Nasser on the other side.
An incridible work of engineering. This high dam is building Egypts reservoir of water, Naser lake.In the vicinity is the new kalabsha temple, you can do both at the same day 😊
If you are a traveler and like watching new places and meet new people you have to visit Egypt specially Aswan & LuxorCountry is very safe for all foreignersWonderful temples , tombs and museumsBest time in the winter season from October till JanuaryNile cruse between aswan & Luxor is a great option than hotels
First thing we saw in Aswan after getting out of the airport, a dam on a 500 kilometers long lake quite majestic.
