Astoria in Luzern
Description
Hotel needs to improve wifi connectivity. Breakfast great. Super fun dico on top floor.
MoreComfy city hotel. Enjoyed the bfast during my stay, especially the soft, buttery croissant. 5 mins walk to train station and old city. Friendly staff.
MoreThis is an excellent hotel. Location is great. There is a very nice Thai restaurant with the hotel. All in all a great place to stay.
MorePROS: cleanliness, large bath counter, Penthouse rooftop lounge, location & breakfast variety.CONS: zero towel replacement, no USB, outlet plugs didnt fit in their weird sockets, 4 tries to get a flat bed sheet because duvet was SO hot, bed feels like just a box spring. That and hot AC led to lack of sleep, which led to this review!I cant say Id recommend this hotel.
MoreI injured my foot two days earlier, requested a bag of ice so that I could ice my foot in the room. With our Gate 1 tour operator there they gladly gave me a bag and told me where the ice machine was. Five hours later when I needed another bag of ice (first bag had a small hole and leaked water everywhere), the front desk staff told me he had to check with his supervisor. I told him I knew where the ice machine was. I told him the bags were in the drawer right behind the front desk....why couldnt he just give me another bag?????I will share my review with Gate 1!Discovery Group of September 5th, Gate 1
MoreRoom looks quite nice, but the bed is made out of 2 separate beds that keep sliding so if you are sleeping alone, you cant make yourself comfortable.Room is freshly cleaned, but shower drain is clogged and noone bothered to check before giving me the room.Breakfast buffet is fine. Food selection is not very wide. No lactose free choices, no gluten free choices.
MoreCamp Astoria Review—Five StarsCamp Astoria’s rustic charm will leave you yearning for simpler times. In these minimalist surroundings you will find yourself unencumbered by extraneous amenities like pens, room service and privacy. The cultivation of rich and rewarding friendships is facilitated by the petite elevators and slim hallways where you can’t escape brushing up against your new bff. Equally helpful are the paper thin walls which allow you to feel as if you are only a tent away from your fellow campers. Additionally, only 7 rooms on each floor have a bathroom door so with any luck you and your camp friends will soon be on intimate terms. A few fortunate rooms even have a cappuccino machine which is conveniently located next to the toilet. Do you love sleeping under the stars? Luckily the beds at Camp Astoria are rock hard with lumpy springs so just by closing your eyes you will be transported to the rugged outdoor sleeping grounds of your dreams. No camp experience is complete without music, so be sure to book your stay over the weekend when the rooftop dance club is in full swing. The music is generously turned up to the maximum volume in order to reach as many rooms as possible and will keep you company until 4am. Rec time is a breeze in the Camp Astoria gym, a fitness lover’s paradise boasting SIX pieces of equipment. It is also compact enough that you won’t need to yell across the room to your workout buddies—in fact, they will probably be standing right next to you. And last but not least, foraging for food is downright elementary in the MeKong mess hall where the food options won’t overwhelm you.In summary, Camp Astoria is the closest thing to roughing it in the great outdoors you could hope to find. Unfortunately you won’t get rained on but you will be free from bear attacks and create memories you won’t soon forget.
MoreThe room was immaculate, the location was just right and the breakfast was superb. Sorry that my stay was only for one night!
MoreGood hotel. Very comfortable room. Perfect dor family vacation. Located among several tourist attractions. Love this hotel.
More3 stars for the location and fairly modern rooms. Negative/zero for quality of service, limited breakfast options and value for money.
MoreLocated in walking distance from most noteworthy that Luzern has to offer. Spacious rooms, friendly and helpful staff.
MoreIf you are a minimalist the Astoria will be an ideal choice. This Hotel offers nothing in terms of basic amenities, no bottled water in the room, no hair conditioner, no room service, no in room movies and (in the room I was givenno door to the bathroom! In addition you had to go to the main floor to get ice. The breakfast buffet was a disappointment, fruit salad from a can, no pastries. The only saving grace is the excellent restaurants and location but overall a very disappointing stay.
MoreThis was a stopover for us in July on our way to Interlaken. The location is perfect, 15 mins walk to the train station, and quite central to all the shops and restaurants by the lake. Its quite a new hotel so the rooms are good size with really comfortable beds. Note that the bathroom is completely open. There is no kettle in the room, but they provide a Nespresso coffee machine. So, unless you drink coffee, you are out of luck. We found the reception staff really friendly and helpful. The bonus was a 12.00pm checkout. The included breakfast is slightly disappointing, as it is very limited. As for vegetarian options, there was only cereal and fruit. All the cooked options were non-veg. Perhaps the hotel needs to think about vegetarian and vegan options and respond to the current market. Overall, a pleasant stay here, but very pricey for what we got.
Morethe tremendous noise of the hotels inner bars until dawn.Air conditioner malfunction.Everything is a mess.worst hotel of my life!!!!
MoreGreat location! Wonderfully friendly staff~ Plus, the room was more spacious than other hotels. :DAlthough loud voices from the opposite building bother my sleep in the midnight, this happens due to the noisy people. Lets just mind others :(
MoreThe room was very comfortable especially well air conditioned during the Summer heat wave. Bed, bathroom and staff were all superb. The location was excellent. Close to train and major sites and still quiet. Breakfast could be improved with fewer packaged foods but it was adequate and sufficient. We would happily stay there again if we visit Lucern.
MoreGood location, but there is a nightclub within the building. We arrived at midnight after missing a flight and were hoping to get a good nights sleep. Unfortunately there was base reverbing through our room till past 3.00am. Reception had no change for the vending machine. The buffet breakfast is very good.
MoreDecent experience of staying here as a base point to visit mountains around the town. The rooms were good but we had to change the rooms twice due to some issue but even changed room was not upto the mark. The biggest USP is its central location.
MoreBring your own water. There is a vending machine that only take small bills, swiss franc. No card. There are no minibar in your room. There is no room service. The staff are nice and do their best to accommodate guests with the limited resources they have.
MoreThe Hotel does not do room service
Very lovely place. The front escalator is very narrow. Use the elevator in the hall behind.
MoreGreat location. Excellent service. Lots of options for getting around the city. Central to just about everything the city has to offer
MoreI have mixed feelings about it. :)The hotel is really nice, rooms were clean and neat, food was good, service excellence, stuff polite, but there is a bit BUT....What I cant understand is: most rooms dont have doors between the room and a toilet. This migh be OK if you are coming with a wife/husband, but if you are traveling with a colleague(as an examplethis is really awkward - not to say its unacceptable. Also, caffe machine is placed IN the toilet. WTH?Also, the rooms are quite small, so given the price you pay for the room, with everything said, this is really a no-go for me, so next time we will pick some other place.
MoreBusiness, family, leisure even group tours... This hotel served all. Location is superb as its not that far from Lucern tourist attractions. Besides only few minutes by walk to Lucern convention center and Lucern main train station. Surrounded by convenient shop and store, hair salon and barber, restaurants and groceries shop. Besides, those who wish to find fast food, Halal or typical Asian restaurants are easily can be found around this hotel area.Hotels with conference room. Large dinner hall at their 7th floor.... Winter garden. Where else to enjoy great breakfast with absolute beautiful view of the city surrounded by mountain Alps if not here in Lucern Astoria. Saturday night will also not far from this hotel. Their 7th floor club is absolutely one of tune best in town. Choices of Asian cuisine that you may craving even your are here. Gymnasium room not that big but absolutely alright for 2-4 people one time. And of course good service from their staff.Fast check in process and their friendly staff will always help you to deliver what you have booked and plan earlier. From front desk till room service staff, they are doing their job very well excellently. Highly recommended and for me I will be here again soon.
MoreGreat location and clean hotel. The breakfast was awful though. We were booked as part of a group. Canned fruit cocktail, soggy bacon, everything cheap.
More0/10Location is perfect. Hotel is modern and clean. I loved the soap, shampoo etc., Its high quality and smells greatThe draws are many at this hotel. I cant understand how this is a 4 star hotel. There is a club located on the roof of the hotel so if you want to sleep this isnt the place for you. There isoud music and drunk people yelling until very late at night. Also the bathroom doesnt have a door in any of the rooms (we asked). So expect little privacy if your traveling with someone else. The mini bar, and what not is located within the bathroom. SmhAlso the walls are all windows so either you have the black out shades covering your view of the street or have no privacy, this issue extends into the shower and bathroom.Lastly the front desk staff was often missing from the front desk and when theyre there they dont offer suggestions in the city or a map. The staff was cold and we had to figure out Lucern on our own.
MoreClean and nice room. Free wifi, spacious bathroom 🥰 the staff is very friendly.Tips: use the elevator directly to EG and there you will find the breakfast room opposite of the elevator. To your left, walk straight, you will find the exit.Flash your card before pressing the floor number in the elevator
MoreNice rooms. Located near local attractions in the heart of the city.
This is a really nice hotel and the service was excellent, but it also has a few downsides. The location is central which is nice but it is right by a night club and the rooms dont have amazing soundproofing. I was able to hear a lot of chatting and laughing late into the night (12am+from my room.
MoreI have traveled all around the world. Stayed here 2 days, it is terrible...No air conditioning in the room and the lighting is awful. I would not recommend this Hotel to anyone...
MoreGreat location close to the train station. Recommend the Lifestyle Kingsize bed which was very spacious. Downsides are: 1the central air conditioning was very hot and couldn’t be switched off. It only lets you amend the temperature by 1 degree which is ridiculous. 2there was some loud party downstairs last night past midnight, even with the double glazed window it was too loud for us to sleep.
MoreClean, was perfectly fine for our stay, good location! Nice staff, I would stay there again!
MoreVery nice hotel conveniently located with parking and excellent service. Walking distance to the Old Town across the Chapel Bridge. Highly recommended.
MoreWe booked the Hotel Astoria. Upon arrival, the doors were closed. that accidentally passed by then told us, that all guests who booked Hotel Astoria are automatically relocated to the Hotel Renaissance around the corner.
MoreVery bad, no coffee machine, no kettle supply, this is a very basic hospitality.Pay so much for the rate & still need to pay for Hot water & etc from vending machine??!What is this services provided..So call is 4 Star Hotel International rating??
MoreLarge rooms with good bed and good pillows often a problem in hotels. Breakfast also very nice. Only downside were more than 200 Chinese guests which were quite noisy
MoreBeautiful artsy & boutique hotel ... lovely stay. Great hospitality. Staff at checkin was more than helpful & even went out of their way on Multiple requests I had. Major convenience having self park in their private basement parking lot as parking in the city is time consuming and costly.Roof top bar penthouse and indoor restaurants is a hot spot in the city ... only thing I regret was location of my room 3001 by elevator and adjacent to main lobby area. Noises from people walking by and waiting for elevator and service room (laundry / construction etckept waking me up multiple times through out the night.I would certainly recommend this hotel and come visit again.
MoreStaff are very friendly and helpful.Location is great and easy to access other resturants and public transport. On the downside, the breakfast is very basic with minimal veg options. Especially considering the hotel seems to own 4 of the best resturants in the city - that along with the room rates i was expecting better.Lastly, we were impacted by construction work - loud drilling from early in the morning which left me unable to sleep in and also with a headache! Raised this with the staff but it seemed to still continue and not much was done about this. Consequently we checked out abitearlier than planned.
MoreWe stayed one night here on our way to Zermatt, The hotel staff is very courteous the free included breakfast is not that well stocked with varieties but not bad.. The location is great walking distance to the train station and the walking distance to the Chapel Bridge. The hotel is nice and modern and clean. We enjoyed our stay.
MoreThere was no iron or coffee making facilities, possibly a result of us being part of a group booking. The breakfast options were a bit lacking too.Beds were comfortable and bathroom was ok, though I think its a Europe thing to have exhaust fans that dont work.
MoreThe rooms are modern and clean. The bathroom is spacious and the shower has good water pressure. The breakfast at the Mekong is average, scrambled eggs, bacon, fruit and cereals. Can be a little noisy at night with music from the club above.*UPDATE*. Ive revised my original 4 star rating to be a 1 star rating. On my second night here, the room was VERY noisy. The club music and cigarette smoke fill the room so dont worry about missing out on the nightlife. I called the reception who suggested earplugs.
MoreFor a hotel of this stature, they do not provide umbrellas, jug kettle in the room or a mini bar fridge. Breakfast was just average. Considering how many Asian tourist that are there and that there is a Thai restaurant in the hotel, youd think that they would make an effort to include some Asian cuisine in the breakfast menu.
MoreNice hotel in a great location - a block or two away from the river and two beautiful churches. Rooms are modern, bed was very comfortable, and the down blanket was warm. The shower was very good. There was an espresso machine in the room, and I enjoyed my coffee even though Im not a big coffee drinker. The breakfast was decent. There was not as much variety as in the other hotels we stayed at during this trip, but it had scrambled eggs, bacon, yourgurts with various topings, several types of ham and cheese and good bread.
MoreA little unsure on how to review this place if I’m honest. In general the room was nice, spacious, modern design and clean with a great shower. Considering the good location and that it came with a pretty generous breakfast that was served till 11 I would say the price was competitive for the town. However there missed the mark on so many other things that let the place down.Firstly that beautiful rooftop bar, the main reason I picked the hotel, was COMPLETELY ruined by really loud & terrible music at the weekend. I had envisioned our first night coming from the airport and relaxing with an amazing view of the Alps with a cocktail. Instead I felt like I was in a club on Croydon High Street, half the tables were reserved, the music was just awful and when we left we were greeted to what looked like half the town queuing up outside. No idea what it’s like in the week but at the weekend it’s definitely not a bar for hotel guests. Thankfully our room was on the other side of the hotel as you could hear the music 5 floors below. The website leads you to believe that the hotel has numerous restaurants/bars/cafes but not all of them are in the same building, a shame because if you are going to have a nightclub in your hotel as the weekends it would be nice to have had somewhere a bit more relaxed to have a drink instead. We ate in the Italian restaurant which was lovely, I had the veal ragu, very simple cooking, done very well. We looked at the Thai place but no matter how good, there’s no way I would ever spend 50+ per dish for Thai food that seemed crazy expensive. We discovered on our last day that the city “bus ticket” we were given at check-in actually gave us free train travel and discounts on the cable car and other attractions. Which was disappointing because we could have used it the previous day. I had sent an email before arrival asking reception for advice on how to get to mount rigi and this was never mentioned, I accept it is my fault for not looking closely at the voucher but it would have been nice if staff had told me it was a travel voucher rather than bus ticket -just a recommendation for future guests. One last thing, we were woken up at 8am on Sunday by housekeeping banging around and talking outside our door really loudly. We had to go out twice to ask them to be quiet, we later realised there were storage cupboards opposite our room. As a hotel, surely you understand that the main reason a customer is with you is for somewhere to sleep…perhaps staff could be a bit more considerate of this on a Sunday morning.
MoreWe recently stayed at this Astoria Hotel for two days in October 2018 and we have to agree with the other reviews - very noisy on the weekends. The bar/club on the 7th floor makes it even worse. The bathrooms were upgraded in the last few years but the work seems more of an afterthought - Not the modern look illustrated by the lobby when you first walk into this Hotel. The sink was tiny, chipped and the countertops hang over into the bathtub (very strange). This would explain why the hotel didnt upgrade to a shower stall as well (very cheap and distasteful). Unfortunately for an upgraded bathroom, we found mold all over and in between the drop ceiling. We also found a great deal of mold/water marks on the lower walls underneath the sink. After showing the first night, we didnt bother to shower again in the room.As other reviews have noted, and were glad we paid attention; DONT LET THE HOTEL CHARGE ANYTHING TO YOUR ROOM OR YOULL BE SORRY. The breakfast is about average along with the watered-down coffee. The pastry, bread and scrambled egg selections were very good.If youre traveling for business and you need a quiet and clean place to stay, you may want to seek other accommodations.
MoreOur room was ultra modern, did not like a frosted glass wall between sleeping area and bathroom. Area rug on floor truly needed a good cleaning. Floor to ceiling Window faced an exterior wall of next door building. Staff was friendly, beds were comfortable, lighting not the best. We luckily did not face the street, others in group were serenaded by party goers one night. Had a good center of town location, easy walking to lake, the river, and historical part of town and good restaurants.
MoreNice and clean hotel. The beds are so hard that it felt like sleeping on the floor, and the pillows were so thin and lumpy that we had trouble sleeping. Staff were very nice. Just a warning - if you are visiting from anywhere that your currency is not at par or higher in value, it will be an expensive stay. The restaurants in the hotel charge $12 Francs for a bottle of water.... that’s nearly $20 Canadian dollars. Absolutely crazy!
MoreVery comfortable and clean. Very near to the train station which makes it very convenient.Clean and awesome service... if you get a room with view to the hallway make sure you are dressed as anyone can see you inside. If you are an exhibitionist then it’s your paradise as the couple across my room. Wink wink
MoreWe loved everything about this hotel except for the temperature in the room. Unfortunately, it was so hot we couldnt sleep. Even with the window open, we were hot and the apartments across the street could look right in at us (highest floor). The front desk staff were very friendly, even helping us plan dinners and day trips. The location is great, its just a few blocks away from the central train hub (maybe a 10 minute walk- and theres even a bus stop right outside so you can bus over with your luggage. To boot, the hotel even gave us a free bus pass for going in and around Luzern! The included breakfast was decent and the wait staff in the restaurant were kind and helpful. Everyone was very accommodating for tourists and spoke several languages.I would give this hotel 5 stars if only the rooms A/C was working. They had some renovations ongoing, I was told by one person that its a common problem. There werent any available rooms for us to transfer to, and they couldnt do anything to fix it. Apparently the hotel uses one common A/C system so the lower rooms are frigid and the higher rooms are hot.
MoreGreat staff, breakfast was very nice. Hotel restaurant is lovely and food was good. Roof top bar/night club is very popular friday night, no noise heard from the rooms i have stayed in. Underground parking is an experience but very usable. Great place, in the centre about 2min walk to the lake and the old town.
