Easygoing restaurant serving authentic Eritrean dishes and freshly roasted flavoured coffees.
Food is good, as the location is, proper Brixton vibes which I love but, customers should know that theyve to eat with their hands, literally. Im totally not against it, at all, my friend and I ate together and we enjoyed the food and had fun, but I understand some people might not feel really comfortable doing it, so I guess they should advert that the idea is to eat with your bare hands, or if they dont say that, they should offer cutlery at least if someone asks for it.
Absolutely tantalisingly good food! Ive experienced Ethiopian food on a street level, but this far exceeded my expectations. The vegetable soup had such rich flavour, with vegetables embodied in a delicate broth. The main meal superb with an array of meats and lentils.Very pleasing to the palette.Traditional Ethiopia coffee served with popcorn warmed my soul.
we went in this place 2 times and nothing has changed. the quality of food is very low.
Top place to eat. Warm, Cosy, Friendly.- Great food with excellent vegetarian selection. Not just great food, but an Eritrean cultural treat!
Really delicious. Excellent surprise if you want to try something a bit different.
Delicious food and really nice people. Go with people who like to loiter over food and who are happy to share and eat happily and greedily with their hands. Have a coffee at the end and savour the aroma!
Lovely Authentic food. We had a massive portion between 3 of us and were able to bond after a long time over a traditional palate. Coffee was amazing and popcorn was served too - bit random, but I wasnt complaining.
Good African taste. Go for the Veggie and vegan meal deal for 2 and expect to be surprised. Lol. Anyway worth the try.
Delicious food, great homemade honey wine, courteous hospitality, simple surroundings and bustling atmosphere.
Good Ethiopian scran. Vegan menu. Serves meat also.
Very good place.1. The waitress very kind and help us understand how to eat the food with the hands.2. We ordered the plate with different kinds of food for 32 pounds. Delicious. It includes a very tasteful coffee with cloves, cinnamon and cardamom.I really recommend this place
Very nice heritrean restaurant. We had 2 beer and their shared plate for 2 with coffee at the end for 20£ each! Cheap and Good
Cheap prices, mediocre food and horrible espresso. We had chicken cubes cooked in butter plus rice and salad, my friend had fish cubes with bread and salad. We also had two starters and drinks, in the end I had an "espresso". Everything was mediocre.
Delicious and original food at reasonable prices. Nice and helpful staff. Pleasant atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.
Really delicious food and good service, very pleasant staff. Had the vegetarian sharing dish and it was more than enough for two people.
I cannot recommend this enough. Definitely one of the best meals Ive ever had, arguably the best. Absolutely delicious. I had a sharing meat platter thing. Unbelievable. Friendly staff too. Highly recommend!!!
Really nice food at this place love the idea that you eat your plate as you go. see pictures.
Nice food but way too expensive for what we had, they dont take cards under £20??? We wanted to pay separately 😣
Delicious food, perfectly spiced and authentically Eritrean! A taste explosion for both vegans and meat eaters alike.
Lovely service and delicious food. For me, the fitfit was the highlight, but my friends loved the gorgeous coffee (and frankincense). It was all a delight for the senses. This wasnt my first time there, nor will it be my last.
Cosy little restaurant with delicious authentic Eritrean food and very warm welcoming staff. The portions are huge for the (very reasonableprices. I couldnt finish my dish and packed it up for lunch the next day. Definitely worth a visit, a little gem in Brixton.
Food was cold when it arrived. A lot of the menu wasnt available though the place was empty. Food not as tasty as other similar restaurants. Good value though.
Amazing food, great presentation, good prices. Vegan friendly!
Its one of my favourite places to dine in Brixton. The staff are wonderful and always friendly.
Simple, hearty food with friendly service. Weve been going to Asmara for over ten years and the place hasnt really changed: the decor is plain and the selection of dishes is limited, but every time its a feel-good meal because the staff are so friendly and the quality of the food is excellent. Make sure to ask for coffee at the end.
Food is alright, but you have to like this sour bread. Price is great and food is traditional.
Lovely staff and good food although they didnt have a couple of things that we wanted. Try the foul medamas.
AVOID. Went here in the hope of having a delicious meal but was the total opposite experience. Food is clearly microwaved and poorly prepared. Tried the shiro, which didnt seem to have any spice in it and was so bland. The injera was made out of cornflour and wheat, which seemed really odd. Also ordered a mixed vegetable dish, which came with potato wedges still cold in the centre. Staff were friendly but refused to take any money off the bill despite the inedible food. TERRIBLE.
Food was ok, friendly service but a bit disappointed the pancakes were made of self-rising flour and corn flour, not quite the traditional way of using teff flour. For this I dont think the messob dinner was quite worth £30....
Really nice restaurant with pleasant, friendly staff and comfortable seating. The food was really tasty and pretty filling, the coffee was nice too. Would definitely go again and highly recommend it.
As an eritrean person its hard to find resturants that are cultrually accurate. Asmara has definatly blew me away with its food tasting like its from back home and its authenticity the only reason i didnt give it a five star is because it didnt sit right with my taste buds and i feel that in my opinion it should have been spicier but overall i would recommend it because it is a great dining experiance
Great tasting authentic East African food in a relaxed atmosphere. Friendly service too. A little gem in Brixton.
Lovely place with authentic atmosphere. Excellent food, generous portions for really reasonable prices! The staff is one of the strongest assets of the place, friendly, professional and with lovely smiles!
Great food, friendly staff, great food, feeling like seating in someone living room and having a good time, share plater is a must have!
So good. Food was amazing, staff very welcoming. A brilliant experience in Ethiopian dining, reasonably priced and the coffee ceremony makes the evening special.
I went there for a dinner with friends. The service was very good, the food delicious, and the price correct. It was a great experience to eat a traditional erytrhean meal.
Cant get enough! There are so many great places to eat around Brixton but when I go out here I almost always just go back to Asmara, its so good (and great value). It caters well for anyone of any dietary persuasion too.
This place has great service and authentic food. It makes for a good night out. Far, far better than places like Shaka Zulu - and at a much more reasonable price.
This is my go-to fix when Im having an off day. You should get the Meat Dinner for two to try all of the amazing dishes!
Really friendly staff who will remember your face because you cant just go once. Foods amazing.
Lovely experience, gorgeous welcome and service, delicious food, non pretentious decor. Overall relaxing and multi sensory experience.
One of the best authentic Eritrean meals Ive had, staff were extremely smiley, Castel beer nice and cold, and the meat meal special is a great all rounder ending off with some popcorn and specially brewed coffee!!! Highly recommended
Found it casually as mostly everything was closed on monday night, We went four friends and it was one of the best experiences in London so far. Really authentic food and very friendly service that makes you feel like at home. Its run by an Ethiopian family and they make you feel part of it.We share the vegetarian and the meat meal for two, eating with the hands and the lovely ethiopian flatbread. So delicious.Includes a ceremonial cup of coffee that was amazing. 100% Recommended. WIll be back soon.
One of my favourite restaurants and always quiet, friendly and delicious! We usually share the vegetarian messob dinner (includes delicious coffee and popcorn at the end of the mealthough friends have enjoyed the meaty one too. Affordable wine, as well.
I like the food so much and it nice and hot the way i like my food nice and spice the best food in brixton no one can do it the way we can it good food you will like it and when you come to eat you love the food
Had the vegetarian platter, it was a little disappointing, could have been more spicy/tasty. The meat dishes are probably better. The after dinner coffee was nice and strong, and for some reason came with popcorn. I dont know if this is a traditional Ethiopian thing, but if you arent completely stuffed, it will definitely fill in the corners. The place doesnt really have any ambiance, but its a little nicer on the inside than the outside would suggest.
I regularly eat in this restaurant and I love it. Its quite small and cosy, the interior design is very pretty and it goes well together with the whole african feeling. THe menu is not particularly varied, but I am also to blame because I always order their most characteristic dish. The service is great as it is a family owned business and the clients get all the care and attention needed. All this together with the fact that ethiopian food can be eaten with ones bare hands makes it a highly advisable restaurant.
Really amazing experience, great food, polite service and great fun. Highly recommend going as a four for a sharing meal followed by a coffee ceremony
I enjoyed this place becausee it made for a whole experince rather than just a meal.Really enjoyed the food, the plater for 2 was enough to feed 3 im sure. That followed by coffee and popcorn, was a lot of food.I would say the drinks where a little expensive compeared to the food.
Love, LOVE, LOVE THIS PLACE!It it a brilliant experience, the food is perfect and so different.Go there!
