Large gallery with huge Canadian collection, European masterworks & a major Frank Gehry renovation.
Loved loved loved the gallery! I spent about 4 hours here. The art was spectacular. The infinity mirror exhibit was so interesting.I would recommend spending some time here, there is so much to look at.
AGO is very beautiful museum. All the sculptures and arts are made of very good materials. I liked my visit to their special room of YAYOI KUSAMA. One needs a reservation to visit that room. You only have one minute duration to see that room. Most of the things have really special meaning in life. I enjoyed my visit.
Visited in May 2022. Nice place. Very unique exhibits. Unique to Canada and to the heritage of the people of Canada.Quite unlike many art museums and galleries I have visited in the world. So much to see. I spent almost the whole day here.Opposite the road, there are a few art galleries as well.
Visited for the Faith and Fortune exhibition and it was beautifully displayed, loved every single piece that was selected for this exhibition. The gift shop was a bit pricey and disappointed that they didn’t have more prints for the Faith and Fortune exhibition but was still able to grab the Goya book and another couple of beautiful prints!
If you love history this place is for you. The gallery is filled with beautiful paintings and intricate designing and sculptures. It was a really really good and educational experience to go there.
Was there on Thursday around hours 12:00-14:00. It wasnt too full, and you get a FREE annual pass of your UNDER 25 years old.The museum is huge - has five floors. Will recommend taking time fore one or two, this is enough.Henry Moores collection was stunning. Will recommend passing the volcano 🌋 voice sensation and the infinity exhibit (which you should book ahead).
I was blown away by this museum. I did not expect the extraordinary collection, I was mesmerised by it and the building itself. From Old masters to modern and contemporary art. What I loved the most was the Canadian art collection, I discovered and learnt so much about the seven. I could not leave without a reproduction of Houses, Richmond Street!TIP: on Wednesday it is open until 9pm and the entry was free.
Free membership under for people under 25!! Definitely a place to go and make some core memories with your friends while exploring the amazing exhibits. Be sure to check out the Group of 7 exhibit which is a fantastic history lesson for anybody with a Canadian passport. More importantly, the AGO has the best indigenous art exhibit I have ever seen in the world. Especially the use of multi-media art is mind-blowing. A must-do in Toronto!
The Art Museum of Ontario is the eighth largest art museum in North America. The art museum itself is a very distinctive building. The entire venue looks like a big ship from the outside. The entire hull is made of glass, which is very beautiful and modern. sense. The whole art gallery has five floors from bottom to top. The fourth and fifth floors are mainly modern art, and there are art paintings by Picasso and Van Gogh. The first floor has a distinct age difference from the fourth and fifth floors, has a strong sense of history, and is full of a large number of works of the Renaissance. The second floor is almost occupied by the sculptures of master sculptor Henry Moore. Almost all of his works are exhibited here, which is also one of the important reasons for attracting tourists and art lovers from all over the world to come here.Tickets cost $25, with free admission every Wednesday from 6-9.I personally think that the guide map needs to be improved. If there is a route map and a collection overview map similar to IKEA, I believe there will be a better tour experience.
There is so much to see and appreciate. Incredible pieces of art. The venue is itself is excellent for hosting such beautiful priceless works. I found myself very compelled by all the different works particularly the Group of Seven artists. We took the transit system to avoid parking and found there to be lots of restaurants and food stores available in the vicinity.
If you’re under 25 it’s free!! who doesn’t love that! For a place like this just like ROM you wanna make sure you have more than 3 hours free cause boy it will take you a while to enjoy and walk everywhere. Didn’t get to finish it but definitely coming back! I loved everything about it, some beautiful art work pieces, even one of Van Gogh artwork is there.
Go to place in toronto. Ages 17 and below are free for general admission!! Everyones nice and friendly. Ive been coming here every so often since I was a kid definitely love the atmosphere here and the different art and artists that get featured.
Great collection and excellent gallery experience. The AGO also provides a great event spaces and programs for a variety of purposes a contexts. Always an enjoyable experience especially visiting the Frank Gehry designed building.
We had a lot of fun at AGO. If you live in Toronto and like museums do the membership. This place is huge and you can spend hours, very interesting.Lunch at the bistro was great too.
Beautiful gallery with tonnes of exhibition that alters frequently! I would absolutely recommend even for those who are not big into arts. Also, the exterior staircase gives an amazing view of Toronto skyline.
If you are in to contemporary art, this place is for you. I enjoyed oil paintings the most, especially the ones that represent the beginning of the nineteenth century in Canada. They do have a nice gift shop and a nice little cafe.
Loved this space. Amazing that I only got to visit it once during my stay as I would definitely visit again. I was particularly proud to see them showcase a lot of Nigerian artistes and the feature of Njideka Akunyili-Crosbys Stand Out amongst others was rhe highlight of my day. The focus on arts across the world and the various cultures makes this a delight for museum lovers. Kudos to the curators for this
The best place ever, I’m so at peace here. Staff was super helpful with setting up our tickets. If you’re under 25, get the free annual pass asap!!! So worth it. Everyone should visit here at least once.
The initial vibes and entrance didn’t generate much curiosity and thought it more as an commercial establishment as front has gift shops and food courts too.Having planned an exclusive trip, decided to go along. The entry fee and security checks were in order thanks to the reception staff and staff posted at entrance who assisted as requested. It’s ok to start from any level and side but start with ground floor and then descend down from 5th floor. Presently 3rd floor is closed for tours.Literally you are drawn into the arts 🎭 and artefacts displayed. From Canadian to Europe and distinguished artists have displayed their artwork and is worth your time and money. You may spend half a day to full day depending on your interest and personal choice. To soak in the art and paint work even comfortable seatings are arranged at specific points.See what interest and amazes you from ancient times to present days.Enjoy.
Beautiful paintings, sculptures, films and artifacts. This museum is huge and we spent about 4 hours here, there are so many exhibits to see and it is easy to spend an entire day here. There are quite a few famous paintings including Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, Monet and more. As of July there are two exhibits, the Kusama and the I am here exhibit. The ticket prices are very reasonable and students are free, they charge 25$ per adult ticket.
Great gallery.Very pleased at the wide selection of art in the collection, including Canadian art, Indigenous art, and foreign art.The temporary exhibits are also well done. It’s also always free for people under 25, which is a great way to get young people involved in the arts!Tickets should be purchased online in advance even if you are under 25, as you may need to wait for an email confirmation.
I spent approximately four hours in the museum just checking out the ground floor. There were four other levels that I didnt have the time to visit. Theres A LOT to see here. Its worth it. Just make sure you have ample time to make the most out of it. Theres even a restaurant and a gift shop, so you can pretty much spend most of your day here.
AGO is amazing! If you like museums I recommend you to buy the annual pass and come back in different days. I only could see two exhibitions and I was tired already (after walking throughout the city). The shop has a lot of cool things and local artists prints. They also have a bistro, and a couple of tables outsides.
I love Museums and have been to Louvre, MOMA among many others. So how does AGO fare compared to them? Well to begin with, its not a large-scale museum as those, yet it takes at least 2 hours to finish only one section of AGO. If you have limited time, I would advise buying an annual pass at 10 dollars more than the day pass so that you can revisit. What makes this museum different are the volunteers who are trained to answer and discuss certain paintings and the meaning behind them. I was quite fascinated by the Thompson Collection in the European Art Section. A bit more about him In video format would have been been better. There is lots to see in the various floors dedicated to Canadian, African and contemporary art. I found there wasnt enough light in the galleries which I believe would be addressed in the mega renovation they are going to undertake soon. There is a nice place upstairs for coffee and tea. Down stairs, the Bistro serves a good menu and has polite waiters. It is a perfect place to relax and fill up the hungry stomach after filling the souls with good art and history! The souvenirs in the shop are unique and reasonably priced too.
Very well organized with lots of great art pieces. i spent 5 hours there just to walk in different halls. You can see from classic to modern art there. It is great speceally if you are intrestd in painting. Highly recommended.
Amazing building. All the staff are very polite and helpful. We got tickets hoping to see the Yayoi Kusama infinity mirror room exhibit but you’re only allowed 1 minute in the room (yeah 60 seconds).
Great gallery and amazing price (under 25 get in free)! There’s WAY too much to see in one day. We spent about six hours over two days and still only saw two floors out of five. The gallery is super clean and inviting! Lots of aids for those with accessibility challenges
Absolutely fantastic place for art lovers, this art gallery, of 5 levels, is filled with a myriad of exhibitions displaying art of ancient times as well as contemporary artists. Entry is free for people below 25 years of age.
I have never been very fond of Arts 🎭, but my wife loves it. Once my wife took me to the Art Gallery of Ontario, now I have started developing interest in arts and historic paintings. This place is clean, big and beautiful. Anybody under the age of 25 can also enter for free. I would definitely visit again.
We went on a Wednesday which is free so it was a bit more packed than usual according to my friend that goes often as he has a year pass. But we were still able to enjoy most of the exhibits. It was my first time and definitely not the last one!
Excellent place to visit!! Love that they have free admission for 25 and under! Staff were very friendly and helpful. Lots of art ranging from new/modern eclectic, old renaissance pieces, to indigenous art work. Would highly recommend!
A huge 5 level of gallery with amazing arts, models, painting and sculpture by different artists. Every room has a story to tell and one can easily spend an hour just in one section. Make sure to eat well and have ample time with you to visit the gallery. Also, they have a stand where you can keep your coat and bag otherwise if you are carrying a backpack, you have to carry it either on the front or the side but not in the back.I would recommend to get the tickets online or if you are a member of Toronto Public Library you can avail free passes every Saturday.Overall, a lovely experience.
Fantastic building and a fabulous collection of artwork. Some artists were new to me and it was great to see pieces I knew in the flesh. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I couldnt recommend it highly enough.
I’m a frequent AGO visitor and I always loved how often their exhibitions and layouts change. There have been really great shows these past few years and I’m sure there’ll be more. Definitely a place you’ll want to stop by at least once.
A great family visit! Kind staff, interesting layout, beautiful architecture. The only downside was that there aren’t any physical maps, which sucks for tourists looking to keep maps as a souvenirs! Other than that, I enjoyed myself, they have a great blend of British, Asian, contemporary, photography, & native/ indigenous pieces. :)
Wide range of Art collections, statue, painting etc., You can explore the history around the world. Be prepared to walk a lot and wear comfortable shoes for walking. You need to have art background to appreciate the work here, else it can be boring.
There are some really interesting exhibits here, certainly all the carved ivory and wood, but especially the exhibits that explore injustices against the First Nations and their ongoing struggles. The building itself is really beautiful as well. You can easily spend hours here, its a solid gallery with a decent gift shop. Youll come away from this experience feeling enriched for sure.
Beautiful paintings, sculptures, artifacts, mediums, architecture, and creations. Really enjoyed my time here, it was very peaceful. So many stories packed into each room, it would take hours to just get through one section if you really read and appreciated everything. The exhibits are beautifully places and flows nicely.
This place is freaking huge; a good way to spend a few hours! Tickets purchased in advance for Wednesdays after 18:00 are free. l recommend going no later than 18:30 on any given day. It will take you a couple of hours to simply glance at all the artwork. The animated moving wallpaper art by Lisa Reihana was the highlight of my visit. Im definitely visiting again.PS : Appreciate art with your eyes 😃 A lot of the artwork can be reached by hand (unlike a lot of museums that make sure you keep your distance), but please refrain from touching them. I saw a lot of people do it and get told off by the staff.
So many good exhibits, especially lots of well-known Canadian artists represented. Theres also some great pieces of native art at the gallery. Price is free if you get an online pass (up to 25 years old), but you do have to pre-book tickets as well.
I went there for my 12th year job anniversary... best gift to myself.Paintings were amazing!! Loved every bit of it.. their bistro Cafe was amazing as well.. trout and Mac cheese so delicious
We visited Andy Warhol exhibition with the student annual pass which was free of charge. I never paid for the ticket in AGO and I am grateful for that. The art in Toronto is accessible for students and as a designer student I love it.I always look through the emails from AGO to see what they have to visit.
Huge place, full of interesting exhibits from all over the world. I loved going though the special Picasso exhibits - lots of fascinating context to it. COVID protocols were mostly adhered to, and there wasn’t a huge crowd. The Annual pass ($35is definitely worth it. If you’re bored on a day with nothing to do, highly recommend visiting here.
Great collection of art in the heart of downtown. The gallery has 5 floors with one level dedicated for special events and basement for small models of ships. Other floors are easily accessible via elevators and stairs. Level 2 is what I enjoyed the most with art from 1200s, there is a beautiful gallery in Canadian indigenous people as well as sculpture art collection on the same floor. Coat check is available for 2 bucks, art shop is also located on the main floor. Municipal Parking is available nearby like 40 larch street.
All the pieces have informative descriptions. The gallery is well curated and the temporary exhibits are usually a big draw. Definitely get tickets in advance because of the limitations during the pandemic. The mobile website is a mess though. It’s annoying to buy tickets on, logging in, and the windows keep freezing. The cost check isn’t free for members, only the more expensive membership has free access to it.
Beautiful art space. Our favorite part is ship miniatures.Picasso’s exhibition is until mid January.Coffee shop has an amazing ambiance, especially during the sunny day.And AGO cafe is worth mentioning because it’s one of a kind both healthier and yummier place to eat (comparable to regular museum’s cafes). It’s also free to everyone under 25!
Always there is something to see. Worth the membership if you are interested in ART. This week, we went to PICASSO. You will realize that you knew a little about the artist, especially the ones that shaped the ART.Before it, went to Andy Warhol. And more and more.Everyone is polite and nice. Even the people. We went with a baby in the pram.We go every few weeks. And it’s worth it. One of my favourite trips to the downtown :)
Spent a couple of hours and wandered from floor to floor, seeing many different genres of art. I even went to the basement level to check out the pretty amazing collection of model ships and boats. Was able to take a lunch break outside of the gallery and get back in again with no hassle to continue the experience. It was busy , probably due to the Picasso exhibit , but staff checked vaccines docs quickly and efficiently and everyone was so friendly. If you plan to visit more than once within a years time its worth it to buy the $35 membership which allows you free entry to general exhibit after purchase.
I like museum.AGO is one of kind. The exhibition are always well explained and we can take the time to enjoy all of it.I love to see the group of seven. Also, unique piece of arts that we cant see anywhere else. Spending a day at AGO is like stopping the time.We always leave transformed, like if time flies in another dimension. The pass is inexpensive so we go very often. You will love it
Wow what a place to visit. I would say this is the largest Art gallery Ive been to. They have about 4 floors of art. I spent 2.5 hours just on the first floor. They have Picassos blue period and Michael Wong both was lovely in seeing. I would invest in the membership for $35 if you live in the area. Definitely would be worth it and be able to fully enjoy the experience
