Underground museum & science center exploring the Arctic region & the history of Finnish Lapland.
Great place to visit for both kids and adults. Lunch buffet at the cafe was very delicious.😍
Nice museum. Awesome glass roof.
good option for a rainy or freezing cold day to explore Laplands past
The 15€ lunch is really REALLY good value.Great place to start your time/trip in Rovaniemi.
Nice place to visit
So goodWas there for 1.5 hours could easily have spent another hour or moreSo good on many levels
Great museum, but I would like also say kudos to the souvenir shop - it was so extraordinary, so original!
Great historical information on the Arctic region and Finland in the exhibitions. Very informative exhibition on climate change and impact its having on the Arctic region. Good coffee in the café.
Informative museum containing information regarding Petsamo, Same culture and history as well as wildlife. Can be very hot during summer
Good museum - the permanent exhibition explains climat change very well, but their data is a bit old, only until 2010!We very much enjoyed the interactive exhibits and the entrance ticket price is very reasonable 😊
A great place to know about the life in the arctic like how people lives those days, floral and fauna in the arctic and also the history of Lappland. It would take about half a day and I highly recommend the Arktikum.
I enjoyed my visit to this museum even though some of the reviews say its geared towards children. Its perfect if you have a spare days in Rovaniemi and youve already done everything else. The exhibitions are surprisingly good so they must have invested a fair bit into it. A good balance of history and current events.
Creative and insightful museum. I appreciated how interactive many of the exhibits were. Our group of three only had enough time to see one museum and we went with Artikum. I left with a greater appreciation and understanding of the local culture and history of the Arctic region. I could easily have spent 2-3 hours going through the exhibits here if our group had more time to spend there.
I really appreciate the effort to present a long timeline with different historical data, information and objects.
Must visit place in Rovaniemi. A good experience for to learn about Finland , Artic Circle etc., Walkable distance to City centre. Purchased the Culture pass(Valid for 7 days from purchaseand we visited it 2 days by managing our time with other different activities in the Santa Claus Village.
Nice museum. Pretty small, a lot of interactive displays. The ticket price is a bit high in my opinion considering the size of the exhibitions. Overall, if youre in Rovaniemi, I recommend taking a look - even just for seeing the building itself, from inside and out.
Very interesting overview of Lapland culture, history and wildlife. Well laid out, in a spacious modern building, some areas child-orientated. Well worth a visit. Captions in English.
Very interesting overview of Lapland culture, history and wildlife. Like most modern museums, heavy on displays rather than exhibits, and child-orientated in places, but well worth a visit. Captions in English.
We were all in love with the museum. It would take almost the whole day to walk around and read all the information. The museum also had different exhibitions with interative activities as well! Super informative, well organized and family friendly. We got the ticket with student discount for 15 eur per person for the package of 3 museums (Arktikum, Pilke and Korundi). Too bad that we did spend a lot of time with Arktikum and only had 1 hr for Pilke and did not have time for Korundi). Good thing that if you buy the package, you can enter on different days as well for the other 2 museums.
Such a nice museum! Youll have plenty to see. The museum is full of old fashion interactive information, where kids will love to pull ropes, switch lights and so on.It is a lot to read so it might take some hours.Youll be able to learn about climate change and the future of the Arctic, the history of Finland and populations around Lapland, the Finnish wildlife. Also, if you want to experience typical Finnish food, try the lounas at the café. Much better than the food served to tourists in town.
Well worth a few hours of your time and the entry price! As students the ticket costs only 9€ which is appreciated. The exhibits are interesting and there is a lot to interact with.
Perfect and must see place in Rovaniemi.Every exponent is described well.It is very interesting and intuitive place where you can learn a lot of Arctic region.Design of the building is great!Outside of the building there is garden where is one of the rare dark places in the City where Aurora can be seen!
Cool museum for history and natural history. Just about everything is available in a variety of languages. Wish we had put aside more time to spend here.
Great place !! This museum is mixture of history, science, art, culture. Minimum of 3 hours is needed here. Lot to learn and understand. Try to explore the exhibitions on all the floors. Each and everything has been explained nicely. Great place for kids as well. Open glass passage is beautiful. Ticket is 15 euro pp (feels like its bit on a higher side though).
Great way to spend a polar night or even otherwise. One gets to learn so much about the flora and fauna of the Arctic in addition to seeing the way of life of the people who live in some of the harshest conditions and psychologically toughest periods with no sunlight for months. The museum can be well covered in 2 hours - of course theres always room for more time.
Wonderful museum, awesome exhibits and appreciated the city collating the natural and cultural history of the area under one roof. The Greenland photo exhibition is particularly worthwhile. Spent 2+ hours here, so also worth the entry price. Highly recommended!
Amazing museum. The enter fee is €15. If you like me swim you might spend all day here, and you can learn heaps about lappish life and history. I love all the exhibitions!
The place talks about all things arctic and how everyone is affected by changes to this unexplored terrain. Puts a lot of things in persepctive, with the ongoing climate change events and how people have taken care of this since centuries. Must visit.
I came here with adults and really enjoyed it. Kids would probably have fun too
Its a great experience. The museums design is beautiful and allows for some nice pictures. The exhibitions are packed with information, activities and warnings about the dangers the Arctic faces. Its very inforative and eye-opening. The staff at the museum and the gift shop are very nice and helpful too, adding to the overall good experience.
My family and I enjoyed our visit to this museum, it gives a very interesting insight to Finnish culture and history. The kids really enjoyed the interactive areas too. I would recommend a visit if you are in Lapland.
Great 👍Wonderful combination of Finnish history, culture and science. Children friendly and one pass allows to visit three other museums nearby with reasonable price. One great place to visit after santa claus Village, when in Rovaniemi. Highly recommend 👌
An amazing architecture, great exhibition and well located. There are plenty the information really good, fun and entertaining. This museum is included in the Museokortti.
I loved this museum. Great architecture. The museum is showing the history of Finland and Rovaniemi in a nice way. Definitely worth visiting
Place to visit! Beautiful building itself with a great view and with a very interesting and informative exhibition.
If you have nothing planned to do in Rovaniemi, it may be a place for you to spend some time. Does not contain much though. The neighbouring Pilke science museum is just a play ground for the kids, nothing science in it. (The culture pass is a tourist trap ....if you are not keen on the art museum)
Great place, a must visit for anyone visiting Rovaniemi. Its very interesting and gives a good insight into the history and life at the polar regions.
Fantastic museum and great for all the family
The museums is enhancing compared to my previous visit... treasure of info about Lapland
An absolute must when visiting Rovaniemi. You will need something to do during the day when waiting see the Northern lights and Arkituim is number 1. First of all, I would recommend NOT buying the culture pass, the Pilke Museum next door is optional unless you really like wood and the Contemporary Art / Orchestra place might not be your cup of tea but thats your call. Now about Arktikum.......The building Arkituim is housed in is a piece of art itself, with its long narrow curved glass corridor. It is said on a clear night you can see the Northern lights from there, but during our trip (mid Jan 2020it was cloudy and snowing. When we visited there was an exhibition on the left hand side of the main corridor about the changes in the Arctic region over the last 60 years from a conservation perspective. This was fascinating and its centrepiece was the lay down room to watch a video projection of the Northern Lights. On the right of the corridor was an exhibit covering the people, history and animals of Lap Land and Rovaniemi. This was very well made and the section on WWII and the winter war storyline was inspiring to see the plight of the Finns against the Russians and equally heart breaking to see the devastating bombing of Rovaniemi.Overall, I really enjoyed Arktikum and its portrayal of Finnish Lapland. And lets face it, Finland is a pretty boring place at the best of times (unless you like the same tree 12 million times in a row or hanging out at petrol stations playing poker machines), but Lap Land is an amazing place and should be visited at least once in your life with Arkituim high on your list of things to do whilst there.
Great museum to learn about the Arctic. Very nice exhibits and a nice souvenir shop.
The Artik museums offers a good understanding of the culture, nature and history of Finland. The exhibitions are a bit old but make the purpose of explaining. Don’t get too excited no more than the photografic, ludicrous and waxed animal exhibition.
Great deal of knowledge on the arctics, its history in an animated way. Great for children and adults to find out more about everything on arctic lifestyle. Definetely worth visiting.
I LOVE this museum. When i was a child this was one of my favorite place in rovaniemi. Its definitely a place to go!
Incredibly neat museum! Tons of interesting information about culture, climate, geology, history, you name it! Exhibits were all fascinating and well put together. The staff is very friendly, and the gift shop was nice. The architecture is top-notch too. If youre in the area, this is a must-see
Outstanding glass structure. The exhibition covers some knowledge regarding the arctic region as well as some general science.
I really enjoy in this big museum discovering about lapland and many information about northern lights
A good museum to explain about the Arctic. Has some activities for the kids.
I had a really good time here exploring about Lapland. There is also exibition about Northern Lights where they get you lay down and enjoy the northern lights on screen. Their glass roof is perfect! Coffee shop is nice too :)
The Arktikum is a beautiful building with a long glass tunnel that gives an almost panoramic view of the lake at Arktikum Park. There are exhibitions on Lappish history and local ecology, with very well done displays, decent translations to English, and two gorgeous video installations. The views alone are worth a visit!
