Arigato Sushi - Sushi restaurant in San Luis Obispo, United States
Recently renovated and looks really good. My family enjoys the yellow menu, half-off items. Though they are half-off, it does not mean the food is bad in any way, at least at this restaurant its not. I just get the rolls and they are good!!! I keep forgetting to take pictures, sorry. I like the Spicy Dragon, and the Kiss on the Beach.
Ok food, korean sushis style and taste above average..
We went to Arigato Sushi for my brother-in-laws bachelor party, with a group of 14... The food was exceptional! I had never had sushi before and got a recommendation from some of the guys who knew more about it; the Santa Maria Roll was absolutely delicious. Service was prompt and the pricing was reasonable. If there was any "complaint" its that there were a few mix-ups with who was getting what dish, but I consider that somewhat expected with a large party on a busy night. I would absolutely recommend this place!
Had to edit my review October 12, 2022.. Went in tonight, and had the best sushi of my life hands down!!!Everything was absolute perfection. Theyre always top notch but tonight was breathtaking.Got the Arigato Special Plate and Pacific secret roll. And it was like artwork. Everything was so fresh and perfect I cant thank you guys enough for a wonderful date with my wife. We cant stop talking about how great your food is, the service is awesome. We love your restaurant.Old reviewBest sushi in the area hands down. Wife and i love date night here. Everything is put together so well and they easily accommodate my shrimp allergy.
To say 2 stars is only because I feel bad for the chefs in this establishment. The rice is to say the least a cold old sticky mush, the nori they use is seemingly from the dollar store, the rolls are cut by which seems to be a child trying to guess how big a inch is, and to finish it off the wasabi is the cheapest playdoh a restaurant can buy. Over all the sushi in this place is not good. The environment is also not very welcoming. Just not a place to go and eat sushi when in SLO.
Arrigato seems fairly priced and service is prompt. The staff was friendly and nice. Food was prepared quickly and plated neatly as well. The only reason 4/5 is that the place just doesnt seem that well taken care of. Inside could be so much nicer with a little more care and finishing. All in all, its a great sushi spot!
Great deals and great food. Great casual sushi spot
The sushi was pretty good, unfortunately our server was super rude and off putting. He was rude when he seated us, didn’t offer us any drinks, and then at the end he rushed us out with the check even though we mentioned wanting desert. We were there an hour and a half before close. The table next to us asked him what appetizer he would suggest and he responded with “I really don’t care.” There was another guy that would fill up our water and check on our table that was very nice and pleasant but our server was awful. I wouldn’t return because off the service alone.
Fantastic food and friendly staff with manners (hard to find these daysbut they make you feel welcome. I definitely suggest this spot if youre looking for great sushi.
Returning customer here and this place has come such a long way. I really love their quality fresh fish and the servers and hosts are always so friendly and positive. Order the “oh sushi” roll and thank me later!!!
Wide selection of sushi rolls. We went on a Friday with 6 people. Place was full and still wait staff was attentive. Ordered a bunch of rolls plus the spicy edamame (and they were spicy). All the food was good. They were running a special happy hour all day, every day. that meant approx $10 per roll. Great price for such good food.
This place had really good reviews and photos so since we are from out of town we decided to give it a shot. From the moment we walked in we were greeted by a young Asian guy with a tatted arm and a neck full of hickeys. Everything else about him was fine, he was polite but the hickeys so unprofessional. Then there was a young white female waitress who would not stop singing to the music and talking about her personal business and cursing up a storm. She was so distracting that we could not even enjoy ourselves. The sushi chef also sat down with the party next to us to share a beer with them while we were still waiting for our meal. I just felt this environment to be so unprofessional. We did not order any rolls, which that is what they might be popular for. We ordered the chirashi (premium). I highly do not recommend that. The slices were cut so thick and were watery (but was displayed very pretty As if they defrosted the fish and didnt soak the water out of the fish. Overall was a very unpleasant experience and would not recommend or return.
Food quality seems to have gone down and prices have gone up. People were still nice.
Started with the spicy garlic edamame and eh not that good, just get the plain. The scallop lover roll looked extravagant, however the roll tasted DRY. It also lacked any flavor at all and I had no interest on eating it after the first bite - it was kind of gross. The other 2 rolls however were delicious and I did like the nigiri! Not the best quality fish but decent for the price. They should extend their hours. Multiple people waiting for a table still at 8-8:30pm. Last call at 9:15pm so we were rushed to order once we got a table at 9pm. Slightly annoying that the hostess made it seem at 8:30 that we wouldn’t get a table so we went elsewhere despite putting our name in. About 10 min later she called to say our table was ready, which wasted more time.
Best place in SLO for sushi. Service is great, food is great. Blue crab hand roll is a must have.
We really enjoyed it. Super fresh, tasted GREAT! We liked it more than our sushi spots in Santa Barbara. And the servers we very nice and HAPPY.
Delicious sushi. Not crazy expensive and good/fast service.
So I walked in last night passing the owner and found 8 patrons in there.. 6 at 1 table 2 at another. The sushi bar was closed Im assuming due to Covid so I got a table by myself. There were 2 waiters who kept walking by me and after about 7 to 10 minutes 1 ask me if I wanted a menu or something? I kind of chuckled and said yes that would be nice and he walked to the front of the restaurant and proceeded to talk to the 2 top. I watched him stand there for several more minutes and finally decided I wasnt going to get any service so I got up and left. Will not be going back there anytime soon.
Super good food! The pricing is a lot cheaper than other sushi restaurants and the quality of fish is good. Amazing customer service. Would definitely recommend
Arigato has great service, delicious sushi, and top notch presentation! Their lunch special is the best value in town. Miso soup, salad, tempura, and sushi for around $20.
Sashimi plate-Morro sashimi was very fresh911 sushi roll-taste good, but rice was falling apartBaked salmon collar-was very goodServices-was ok-never had the 2nd visit by our server for further needs, couldn’t get their attentions except this white young gentleman who was constantly running around to assist customers.Price-reasonable
Great selection of sushi with an "all day happy hour" menu available all day every day but Friday. A huge selection or tasty, filling rolls ranging from $8-$10 each. The best value and best tasting sushi Ive ever had
Great service even when it was a busy night. Our server was very attentive and took the time to explain the menu items. The value is fantastic and everything was delicious!
Best sushi in San Luis Obispo. Gluten free options, great service. Our family of 7 loves this place.
Experience and food was amazing. We came in from out of town and a friend had recommended this sushi spot. Soooo glad she did! We tried a few different rolls and the fried tempura ice cream! Everyone was so sweet. Masks on and all tables were 6 plus feet apart!
I wanted to give 5 stars but I had a bone in my sashimi.Gia gave great service . The food was great. Reasonable priced and very clean.
4.5 starsWe got the Pacific Secret, which was a really nice combo menu item. Also got the fried/cooked tuna and salmon, which I loved because Im not a big fan of raw fish (my wife is). Definitely recommend!
Unfortunately didnt get to sit inside to experience the atmosphere of the restaurant covid. However everyone was very nice when we walked in and ordered our food.Food was Fantastic! Everything was perfect. Nothing I would have wanted more.
While staying at the Ritz Carlton Bacara, We visited this restaurant after reading the reviews. Our server Ariel was very knowledgeable and patient. Everything we ordered was very good and the taste to remember. We were seated outside which was perfect for the weather and had a heater right next to our table which kept us warm enough. To reach this place you would have to park your car right behind the restaurant and it’s about a 4 to 5 minute walk to this place.I would recommend to be seated outside during this season.
The dishes were delicious! This was our first time going to Arigato Sushi and we were planning on getting a Unagi Roll. Unfortunately, didn’t have it so we ordered the Super Dragon Roll, and im impressed! Definitely my favorite meal from here so far. Great service too! I took a star off because I felt our food came a bit to slow. Otherwise, great restaurant and I would definitely recommend.
FIVE STARS!!! This place was a-ma-zing. If you like sushi rolls, you’re in luck! This place has a wide selection with so many choices. You will be sure to find something you love.I absolutely LOVED the super dragon roll and 100% recommend it. They also have something which I’ve never tried before: deep fried sushi! It was surprisingly good and had superb textures. One sushi roll was $10 which is reasonable for the unbelievable sushi. We ordered five rolls for three people.Definitely stop by! You won’t be disappointed.
It is accurate to call this place a Japanese restaurant. The problem was a lack of service. The food was for the most part, fine. The service however, was off. Throughout our meal we had to ask multiple times for simple things (tea, water, parts of my meal, a check splitbut time and time again everything seemed to have been done with a lack of care. However I cannot expect the big city service in a small college town. However its a small frustration in the grander scheme of things. Perhaps I had come on an off day, but I dont think I can share the 4.5 stars for otherwise pretty standard sushi.
Visited while on a road trip back from Pismo. Greeted promptly, waitresses were very nice and professional. The Sushi Chef is a true master with his creations. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and if we are in the area again we will be coming back.
This place has the best calamari fries. The American style sushi is bomb too 👍
Great sushi chef! Always makes the best sushi and good conversation as well. I always get the paradise roll and even though thats more than enough food he always gives me some fresh baked fish on the side :)
The tempura was cooked perfectly with crispy panko. Sushi was absolutely massive portions. I had a spicy tuna happy hour special roll, and for $9 I was astonished at the size. This place has got to be one of the best deals in town. The sushi was flavorful and looked beautiful on the plate. There was no wait to sit down, the food came out fast, and we had great service. I will be back next time I am in town!
I could go on and on about how amazing the sushi is here. The chef is truly talented and all of the fish tastes high quality. If you like sashimi/raw fish, this is the place for you! Every meal here has been a delicious and satisfying one, and my family and I will continue to eat here often.
Excellent! Delicious lunch. Very reasonably priced. Generous portions. Fresh fish for sushi/tatami. Went back again- just as good the second time! Enjoy!
I was skeptical because of the Korean decorations, but the 7 piece sushi lunch turns out to be great! The portion is good and the food is fresh and good quality
Had a delightful and very reasonable lunch here, three generous hand rolls preceded by Miso soup and a small assorted appetizer. Then a very nice tempura with a shrimp and three vegetables, with salad. Pleasant service.
Cute little restaurant. Wait staff nice and efficient. But 2/3 of my combo (salad and tempuracame out long before the main part (pork cutlet), and the pork was very dried out. Salad was tasty (tho overdressed), tempura had good crunch, miso soup good, rice a little stiff (tho I like mine extra sticky), gyoza tasty. My daughter liked her Red Hot Night Roll. Overall it was all right. I think I would go back and try a roll or something or maybe yakisoba. They had a lot of variety on the menu.
Been here many times. Sushi is beautiful and incredibly fresh. Lunch menu is where its at, I recommend the chefs choice, although today the Albacore Delight was dope.
This place has really shaped up since formerly being sumo sushi. Their rolls are some of the best in town, on par with goshis. Theyre worth full price but if you go on any day but Friday, they have an all day happy menu. That also has $8 beer and small sake for the sake bomb lovers. My wife and I come here at least once or twice a week.
At the former location of Sumo Sushi, Arigato is only a block off the main downtown. I ate there recently for the first time and will definitely be going back. The menu is much simpler than the upscale places these days as they really feature the fresh fish. Decor is much improved now, too. Not fancy, just calm and clean
Amazing food .Hands down the best sushi my family and I have had. June the Chef is an amazing host. All the staff are great.Everything on this menu is worth a try. I recomend honestly EVERYTHING.
This is my new favorite sushi place. You cant usually get everything you want from a sushi restaurant without compromise, but theyve managed to match top quality fish and 5-star presentation with huge proportions and surprisingly low prices. They dont have a constantly rotating list of exotic fish specials, but their secret of the sea is splittable between two, and if you add a chu-toro nagiri, youll leave impressed, full, and excited to come back.My only criticism is that the place smells like theyre going to serve you a plate of frozen fish sticks. Dont worry though, theyre the real deal.
Recently re-opened with a new name. Friendly staff, good service. Menu is nontraditional but mostly good. Only huge miss for me was truffle oil on salmon carpaccio. Prices are good, although a few items seem priced high while others seem curiously low. Definitely worth checking out, and previously there was only one sushi restaurant in town Id return to.
Nice atmosphere, great food, a bit pricey and avoid the lunch specials
Great service. Great food. Portions were good, fish was fresh. Great spot to stop for lunch. I ordered the chirashi for lunch and was very happy with everything.
I am thoroughly impressed with the superior quality of the fish.. enjoyed every luscious bite. Kudos to the chefs for their fine knife work and attractive arrangements. The lunch staff is so kindhearted... cant wait to return for dinner.
