Archaeological Museum, Durrës, Albania, Lushnje
Archaeological Museum of Durrës - Archaeological museum in Lushnje, Albania
Museum is closed Sept 22 until Oct 23 for renovation.
Meticulously curated museum with a downloadable video and text guide in many languages. Many of the artifacts shown are intact - an indication of how careful the excavations were executed. Only the ground floor has so far been filled, so it is worthwhile coming back to when all three floors will be.
Well displayed collection of multiple eras of Albanian History👋
Small museum showing early history of durres, they have an app with full guide in english.
Right now is still under renovation. Only first floor available for visitors.
Lots of antiquetes from Roman times and nicely laid out. Can get close to objects to see detail. No photos. Worth a vist if you have not experienced such items. Seems a thousand years can go bye and craftsmanship in a lot of materials has not improved.
Wow
Amazing museum of ancient Greek and Roman culture. Worth a visit!
Small museum that had a great downloadable guide.
Interesting, but... Only the first floor was open to public. 25 euro seemed a lot for a 20 minute visit. Very hot inside.
We saw just the first floor, because rest of the museum was under the reconstruction. Overall, ok place to visit. There wasnt a guidance tour.
Small and not very interesting for the price.
Very interesting and well equipped museum! The staff was very helpful.Unfortunately we are still waiting for the upper floors.
One of the best museums that we have .A lot of sculptures, coins and different other old historical things .Definitely a place that you have to visit on your trip to our city.
A very nice smaller archeological museum with astonishing artefacts from Albanias Illyrian, Greek and Roman past. Well worth a visit.
Interesting, but only 1 out of 3 floors were open so price should be reduced.
A museum with a rich archaeological collection. Unfortunately only the ground floor is open to visitors.
Very well worth while visit.
Nice museum in the middle of Durres dedicated to the rich past of Durres and Albania. Unfortunately when we were there only the ground floor was open.We were greeted by a very enthousiastic employee who made sure to point us in the right direction and provided us with extra information.I like museums, and i liked this one. If history is your thing, Albania has lots to offer, and you should visit this one
So many things found buried in Durres. Including a skeleton!
Very nice tour around the artifacts by Bledar in English. Thank you very much!
Not too extensive, but interesting.Around the corner from the coliseum.$4.00
This was worth the 400LEK admission. Has an app to help you walk through and learn. One floor so plan for about an hour.
Great place to visit!Interesting information
Very Nice Setup. Still upgrading but whatever is there is worth seeing. Host was very polite, educated and welcoming ... He gave us time to tell about albanian history even though we went there near closing time ...
It is ok but i think they need to lower the ticket as it is now 400 lek
Pleasant museum for spending time during hot sunny siestas.Only ground floor was opened.
Very clean, well organized with good historical facts
Really excellent museum, very well curated with information that puts the items into historical context.
Good items at display, and I think nice description with every one, so you will like to see all. Nowadays only ground floor is open, they are working on firat floor.
You can find here a lot of old historical things. The biggest of them are located on the first floor.
I wish there were more exhibits inside the museum, it is kind of small. Very interesting nonetheless - everything is carefully curated and displayed pleasantly.
Great. There is only one floor (oct 2019but soon it will be 4 floors with lot of greek and roman history.
Nothing special. Only ground floor open still charged full price even tho this appeared to be less than half the public area. The air conditioning was the best part. Displays not bad but no extensive explanations of artifacts the general signage is overview general history. Pleasant, but again, nothing special. The building itself is a bit eccentric on the outside some sort of modernistic.
Nice experince. It was good to learn about Durres and Albanias history a bit through archaeological findings. Unfortunately only the main floor was open, as the 1st floor was under renovation.
Nice museum buy it was a Litle small. We only Saw the first floor.
It is a wonderful museum with great staff and displays. All the displays are organized in a way that makes sense (chronological order). The museum could be visited without the help of a guide, but non the less the guides are there to help and they do a great job. The only problem is the lack of funds to expand the number of displays. With entire floors being empty one could only imagine what is possible is the future.
Its a shame this museum has not been able to expand to show more of their very large collection. Hopefully they will get the funding to fill the two empty floors of this most impressive building before too long! The items on exhibit were well displayed and described and the woman who gave us a very complete tour was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and informative.
Magnificent place full of history and artifacts.
Nice place to see if you have too much of your free time. Currently, only the first floor is opened, while the rest of them are getting renovated. Like in every archaeological museum some old sculptures, coins and vases. Unfortunately almost none of the items were explained (like what it is, or what they used it for). If you are interested in stuff like that go check it out, but I personally would not go there again.
The Durrës Archaeological Museum in Durrës, Albania, established in 1951, is the largest archaeological museum in the country. The museum is located near the beach and north of the museum are the 6th-century Byzantinewalls, constructed after the Visigoth invasion of 481. The 1997 rebellion in Albania saw the museum seriously damaged and looted.Archaeological Museum of DurrësMuzeu Arkeologjik i DurrësitCollectionThe bulk of the museum consists of 3204 artifacts found in the nearby ancient site of Dyrrhachium and includes an extensive collection from the Ancient Greek, Hellenisticand Roman periods. Items of major note include Roman funeral steles and stone sarcophagi and a collection of miniature busts of Venus, testament to the time when Durrës was a centre of worship of the goddess.
Another must see in Durres. Great founds from ancient times. And a bonus - air conditioning!
Great and unique exhibits. Few descriptions of museum exhibits :-( Poor selection of souvenirs :-( The ticket is valid only for the museum. No possibility to take pictures! :-( Even without a flash! Worth 300 ALL. Its hard to find a parking space!
National museum of Albania and the best hostory of a sink city of Durres
Its beautifully arranged and the entrance fee is only 300 Lek (around 3 euro), unfortunately at the time I have visited, the upper floors were closed for maintenance and new articles prepared for the next exposition.
Price is now 300-400 LEK and it works from Monday to Sunday. Second and third floor we being renovated...
Good museum. Quite cheap, so you must visit it. Performs good antique archaeological goods (pods, tools, jewelery), some of which are renovated, the other part is new.Unfortunately, second and third floor of this beautiful museum were closed and I am unable to tell you about them. The overall look of museum is good, it is worth to visit it.
The museum is renewed and in a really good condition.Prime Minister himself visited this place when it finished the restauration. This museum has inside alot of history pieces that date thousands of years ago.Every new discovery that is made around the city diggings is stored here.Visit it, totally worth it.Highly recommended.
Nice museum for Albania. Unfortunately only the ground floor is accessible at the moment. The things to see are interesting. The price (300 LEKis a bit high compared to other things in Albania. Kids are free though! The ticket is NOT valid anymore for free entrance to the amphitheatre.
Very interesting collection, well presented! Entry 400 Lek, including the amphitheatre.
