At a distance of 800 m from Western Group of Temples and 2 km from Khajuraho Bus Stand, the Archaeological Museum is a popular museum situated in Khajuraho. It is one of the top places to visit in Khajuraho and also one of the best archeological museums in Madhya Pradesh.

Charges a fee. No photos allowed. Only positive is the opening gallery with a timeline of kings and some context to Khajuraho. But better buying a book, or attending the sound and light show. Small gallery that pales in comparison to the wonders just down the road at the Western Group of Temples. Suggest as time-filler only, & maybe some limited benefit of walking around - get those steps up, because this won’t satisfy the brain.

Western group of temples is worth enough to visit once. If you want to see Kamasutra, you can see here and my favourite is in South group but it is stand-alone temple.

More sculpture can be stored. Too small. Other rooms should also open.

Given the exposure to other worthwhile museums, i would say they need more funding and better display and descriptions.Otherwise, the place was well kept, orderly and clean with helpful and friendly staff.Definitely worth a visit with such historic and significant pieces on display.

Museum is not completed yet due to COVID. Even though a must visit place. This museum will certainly surpass many well maintained state museums thanks to relics of temple artechture and sculptures. Closed on Fridays. Ticket is included in that of Western Complex of Temples.

Located near Western Group of Khajuraho temples; 10 min walk from the ticket counter of the main complex, to be specific. The ticket for western group is also valid for the ASI museum. So keep the ticket intact if you wish the visit the museum. Its a must visit place. Please note: the museum remains closed on the Fridays and photography inside the museum is prohibited. The museum building is new and the shifting of the artefacts and sculptures from the old building is under process. So you may not see all the galleries.

Small museum. Hardly it will take 15 minutes to complete. All the things available here are the remainings of Khajuraho monuments. You are not allowed to take photos even thats the same thing which are there in Khajuraho where you can take photos. You cant even touch anything. Its better to not waste time here, visit Khajuraho monuments.

The highlight is probably the timeline of the Chandela clan at the entrance. Other than that just a many beautiful sculptures. May appeal to the artistically inclined but needs more attention to be made appealing to common public.

Located in Madhya Pradesh, Khajuraho is a famous UNESCO World Heritage site in India. Khajuraho is a unique heritage site which is renowned for a group of Hindu and Jain Temples situated 175 km south-east of Jhansi. They are well known for their Nagara style symbolism and erotic figures and sculptures. These sensuous stone carvings of human and animal form in erotic poses are very aesthetically portrayed and stand testimony to the rich cultural heritage of India.  Most of these monuments were built between 950 to 1050 CE under the reign of the Chandella dynasty. It consists of a total of 85 Temples spread across an area of 20 square kilometres. The Kandariya temple is the most prominent of all of these temples in the Khajuraho complex.

The archeological museum in Khajuraho doesnt do justice to the grandeur and story of the place. It houses a few artifacts from the Khajuraho temples, but is not adequately marked or proves any provenance of the items kept. Theres no guide and some of the rooms are closed

The Archaeological Museum in Khajuraho is in two parts. The older museum is located near the hotel Headquarter Khajuraho opposite the ShivSagar Lake, This is being gradually emptied and the artifacts are being shifted to a newly constructed swanky building near the Circuit House. We visited both the museums during our recent trip to Khajuraho. This new museum is just the place from where one should start ones Khajuraho Tour. The ticket to visit the Archaeological Museum is the same which is used to visit the Western Group of Temples. No one will tell you about this, as there are very few visitors to the museums. With constant excavation being carried out in and around Khajuraho by the Archaeological Survey of India, it is logical the have museums to showcase their finds. The old museum has 5 major galleries, namely the Vaishnav, Shaivait, Jaina, Miscellaneous and one more. The new museum presently has only one gallery, which is beautifully laid out and extremely well labelled. The museum is to have a total of six galleries, but work is moving at extremely slow pace, due to the shortage of funds. We visited these museums on our last day in Khajuraho. Frankly it is recommended that one should visit the new museum first in order to gain a better understanding of what will be visible in the temples. Most of the guides make up stories which give one a different picture of Khajuraho, at least ours did. The museum would clear all misconceptions in advance and equip a visitor with adequate knowledge prior to seeing the temples

It was an amazing, tidy and spacious place. But it should have a separate room for erotic artifacts from the temple with proper explanation. With that wouldve surely given it a 5-star.

Clean and tidy place with statues and artifacts displayed scientifically. Museum staff ready to explain the finer details which an ordinary visitor wont know. The curator not only offered to show us a movie but also explained several points during the show. Extremely enriching experience. My special thanks to Mr Sarveshwar Singh, the museum staff who went to great lengths to explain the history of the museum pieces. Photography not allowed inside the museum hence cant post any pictures.

Good for having an idea about the architectural structure of the Khajuraho temples. It has a timeline about the period of Chandela dynasty and its lineage. Though it has a vast collection of artefacts only a few are open to public and the rest are up for restoration. Free entry. Worth a visit.PHOTOGRAPHY PROHIBITED inside it.

May be open in second half of 2018.

Really clean museum in some amazingly manicured environs. However like all Indian museums, lacks real interpretation material and information plaques are riddled with typos and spelling errors. Plus when I went, only two of the halls were open with another three or four staying locked (permanently I think because the locks were sealed?)
