Museum of archeology with ancient Egyptian exhibits, housed in palace dating from the 16th century.
Perfect place to get to know a Polish culture from the very beginning. There are permanent archeological exhibitions also.Highly recommend to visit this museum and enjoy your time)
Bad museum plagued with irrational choices. Exhibition begins with no information texts at all leaving you with wondering what are you looking at. Leaflets supposed to explain it - gone and not replaced, clearly fault of bad exhibition management. One exhibition is empty, one clearly about something else than what title says, that leaves two out of presumably five. One interesting exhibition, Egypt, needs love. Overall its barely a museum, more a scam showing you two or three big things from Ancient Egypt and then charging you for a disappointment.
Very nice and small archaeological museum, based on Egyptian history and early Polish state.Early history of Poland is not covered enough and the main exibition is based on Egyptian history (and the early history of Sudan, during Egyptian ruleand artifacts that are in a museums possesion. Also, there is an exibition of first human settlements in Poland followed by the migration of Slavs and subsequently formation of an early Polish state.
English explanation was not sufficient for most of their exibitions, but still gave me a specific experience.
A very detailed museum, though it lacks English text, so you better come here with a native
Traditional museum with many exhibitions, especially ancient Egypt is interesting and quite rich. Nice to visit.
5* warto!Ciekawa, egzotyczna ekspozycja - podróż po starożytnym Egipcie, Sudanie i polskich mrokach średniowiecza. The lifelike statues are a great addition to the exhibitions.
This has got to be one of my favourite archaeological museums ever. To be fair I have never been to an archaeological museum before this but I have been to museums with dedicated sections for archaeological artefacts and this museum in Poznan stood out. They didnt have a huge collection but they had a compact, well-curated collection with a well thought-out narrative. There were four divisions (permanent exhibitionsat the museum when I went there about three weeks ago- one was on the prehistory of the area of Poland, one was on Old Poland, one on Egyptian civilization (they had a really awesome collection of artefacts- not many but quite a few good onesand artefacts from Sudan, explaining the Numibian civilizations. I forget the time period for the last one. Anyway, I hope this will be of help. Ticket was 10 Zloty if I am not mistaken but I think the price is on their website.
Very nice museum in heart of Poznan old town. Very reasonable entrance fee and lot of things to see.
Good place. If you have time, visit.
Nice egipt attractions :)
Great museum!!!
Didnt expect to see so much of Egyptian history, culture and even everyday life in Poznań.
U must see it
Its a nice and very interested place!
Nice lttle museum. The Egyptian exhibit is the highlight
I enjoyed, that was quite nice to visit and to feel this spirit of history
Nice exhibition. The museum provides audio guide in English and its included in the ticket price
Wasnt interesting for me. Lots of kids, so its very noisy. No one offered audioguide, though it was for free.
Interesting museum holding the only Egyptians obelisk in Poland. It hosts five permanent exhibitions which deal with the archeological finds documenting life in Poland, but the most interesting to see artifacts are those discovered by teams of Polish archaeologists in Sudan and Egypt. These are all marked with English language tags and plenty of explanations, they look very modern, very well curated. The Polish stuff feels dated and it seems it comes from the Communist era. Also not all of it has English tags and explanations. Its free on Saturday
Excellent. A rich exhibition, amazing artefacts from Stone Ages, informative installations until Middle Ages (at least, we couldnt visit each room unfortunately). A nice obelisk from Old Egypt. Only a few people there, very quite. Not expensive.
Very interesting and inspiring
Not expensive, but the routes are messy, you don’t know where to start and where to go. It should be better organized.
Very good place with a lot of things to see, very good for families, with a lot of explanations for kids. I loved it!
Interesting! To visit during turn on town
Surprising amount of Egyptian artifacts! The permanent exhibits have English text, and there is a free Audioguide available. The museum itself is free on Saturdays!Overall very interesting and worth an hour
Very interesting, small by very interactive for kids, its even possible to wear a real knights close
Nice house, OK collection
Great museum with English descriptions available. There is a lot to see, a visit could take up to 2 hours, even more. There are great tours available too.
There were extra activities for children.
Very nice setting, kind personnel, activities for kids. Not all info have an english translation. Free entry on saturdays
Very interesting. Well displayed. Helpful staff. A lot of artifacts from ancient worlds.
If you are in Poznań with children its worth to visit the archeological museum. It has many interactive and funny places so they will not get bored. Lets be little archaeologists.
A little tired looking. A great place before kids. They have a mini theatre where they educate through theatre. I think for local people. I wanted to go in but was shooed away. They have audio for the permanent exhibition upstairs.
MuseumI was here: 30 September 2018
Small cute museum, has some nice events and exhibitions sometimes.
Pretty interesting place and very informative about the history of the region and peoples.
Extra :)
I love this place
Interesting museum however rare to find any English translations on exhibits. Egiption section is a nice addition to the place.
The beginnings of archaeological museology in Poznań date back to the 19th century. On September 23, 1857, the Faculty of Historical and Moral Sciences of the Poznań Society of Friends of Sciences adopted a resolution on the creation of the Museum of Polish and Slavic Antiquities, which in 1882 changed its name to the Museum of Mielżyńskich. At the end of the nineteenth century, this institution had the largest archaeological collections among scientific institutions operating in the then Prussian state. In 1923, the archaeological collection of the museum was connected with the collections of the former Provincial Museum in Poznań (from 1903, the Kaiser-Friedrich Museum). At that time, a separate Prehistoric Department was established, in 1919, the Wielkopolska Museum. In 1945, the independent Prehistoric Museum was founded, renamed in 1949 to the Archaeological Museum. In 1967, the Museum obtained a new headquarters in the Górka Palace, reconstructed after the war damage. In 2007, the branch celebrated its 150th anniversary. Two characters had a strong impact on the operations of the facility. The first one was prof. Józef Kostrzewski, a longtime director, one of the initiators of establishing the Poznań University, the discoverer Biskupin and a teacher of many esteemed archaeologists. The second was prof. Lech Krzyżaniak, who made the museum an important center of African studies.
A must visit.. Even English recordings are available
Its just ok. Nothing exceptional. Cheap tickets 8zl normal 4zl discounted.
The Museum was really interesting however I would suggest taking guiding tour if you really want to enjoy it.
Despite very small, it is a very high quality and interesting collection. It is nice to see contribution of polish archaeology to understanding of ancient era.
This place is free on Saturdays, and is worth a visit of you have the time. Some of the exhibitions are in Polish only, while others are in English. The Egyptian exhibit is especially interesting.
It has information about how early Polish caveman/settlers settled in poland. Also Egyptian artifacts.I would give it 5 stars but most displays had no quick explanation about it. You had to listen to an audio. If you will listen to all audio it will take you about 2hrs to finish.
perfect
