Remains of an ancient Roman arch & onetime city gate, originally constructed in 29 BCE.
Must visit this gate if you go to pula.
A monument of old, still standing today. In a way it still serves as a gate, separating a more modern Pula from the rustic center filled with shops, stores and restaurants. The road leads straight towards the temple plaza and Arena.
Really nice arch that works as a gate for the city of Pula. Worh to visit for a few minutes.
A very vibrant square in the city. Its lovely to sit around and listen to some music
Very interesting and historical monument! For those who still wonder what the Roman Empire felt like, you should spend some minutes looking at it.Really inspiring and intriguing!
It is an arch on the street - a historical monument that is open 24 hours every day. Lots of detailed work on the arch is still visible.
Great price of history visited with other landmarks of the city, recomanded
Ancient place in present times... Maybe too much people in the middle of vacation 😜
Good during the day and the evening. Waves of people go by. Read friendly Gelato place near by
Nice please. A lot od people. This is how it is in tourist cities.
Beautiful monument known also as "Golden gate".
Must see when you are in Pula.
We went on a walking tour with Stefano through Trip Advisor - highly recommended. He was very knowledgeable & easy going - we werent rushed & learnt a lot on our walk even though it was 32 degrees! Fabulous sunset. Lovely city to visit.
A world history that must been seen and there is much much more that comes along...
Not too much to see
Part of pula history and in and around bars restaurants worth a look round area
This arch is the entrance to the shopping area of Pula.Seemingly more or less intact, and not graffitied as such a thing would be in UK. Might have to wait a few minutes to get your photo as is a popular photo opportunity.
We visited on a Friday during around noon so we didn’t have to wait at all to take our photos.
In great shape. Take a closer look at the engravings, well preserved.
The Roman Empire left great monuments for us modern people to marvel. Best is the lively urban surrounding and Mediterranean sun.
The crowds of people somewhat spoil the charm of the place. In the afternoon, its hard to stand and take a successful photo.
Amazing piece of history and great scene for instagram photo 😉
So cool to see something that old. Glad they are taking care to keep it standing
Not sure impressive does it justice, but thats what it is. Pula is too. Well worth the visit we made there
Ok I have never understood the fascination with archways but this one everyone is taking pictures. Ok fair enough usually I dont Google and to fully understand the history.bi know totally lame of me. If it is fantastic I will Google. There are two angels on this arch one pointing its arrow up and the other down. I always think everything is fake and made old. How could this thing stand all the wars and strife it has had. James Joyce school he taught is right there as you enter. That is cool history.
I recommend that you stand under it and admire the sculptures carved in stone, a masterpiece from 2000 years ago!
Arch is cool, but the shops and restaurants around there are the big draw.
The honorary triumphal arch from 27 BC, originally a city gate, was erected as a symbol of the victory at Actium (31BC, Octavian vs. Antony+Cleopatra). Well preserved!
It was just an arch. I expected something spectacular. Just and arch though. The coliseum has like 50...
A Roman arch from 27BC in the middle of the city. Its well preserved and nice to look at. There are cafes close by to drink your coffee and admire. Its very close to the Marina and Pula Arena as well
During winter lots of things are happening here!
This is an old gate to old town streets, shops. You have to go through it to get to the marketplace and fish market. If you are there, make a stop and take some pictures because it is respectable and beautiful.
Hot spot if you want to impress the one
Beautifull place. Need to visit if you are in Pula
Could use some restorations 😅 But still a cool historical landmark
Nice arch but does not worth a special visit
I always fascinated by the way that this arch is been preserved is been there since 27BC.The building is impressive and colossal....I feel sad for some people that does not appreciate the magnificent of the building. Is free to see it, my advice take time to appreciate the architecture around the arch there are some nice cafes to seat and enjoy the scenery
it is just an arch, so there is nothing special but it just looks so beautiful. it seems like a place to go to if you are in pula.plus, a local told us that in the middle of arch, when you go under it, there is a snake. if you look it in the eye and wish for something, it should make it come true!
Pula is vety Nice historic town... there are many beautiful places you have to see...
Arch stands in the middle of the city since 27 BC. Romans had built this to show respect to sergii family. Thats why the name arch of sergii. If you are roaming streets in Pula you are bound to cross this place. On weekends in summers youll see a lot of live bands playing around this area. Good place to chill
The Arch is right in the center of the city. Its easy to find. On the alley side, you can still read the inscriptions.
Going through it youll feel for a second like a real Roman noble. Knowing its age it is stunning to see it standing surrounded by classical Croatian architecture... The No. 3 on the "Must see in Pula" list. 10 out 10 for me.
A pretty cool looking arch for sure! Detailed and looks very well maintained.Great spot to visit when youre a fan of historical structures. For people who are looking for just something cool to see and take pictures of, without being too interested about all the details, this is just an arch. Nothing more, nothing less. When youre nearby, Id definitely recommend just checking it out yourself! Its free to see anyhow!
A well preserved Roman Arch, with fine detailing. Plenty of seating and cafes in the vicinity. Worth visiting!
Small as it was not Rome after all, but very nice one and excellent starting point to explore old city center.
What a sight to behold. In very good shape. You can clearly see the engravings on the rock and even read some stuff that is near its top.
Nice place. Good restaurants and bars in the area
A beautiful historical place in the middle of the city, great place to take your photos. Surrounding is full of caffs or little restaurants where you can take a rest or a meal 🍵
Sergei arch, which had been enduring long long time. It is an Ancient Roman triumphal arch located in Pula, Croatia. The arch commemorates three brothers of the Sergii family, specifically Lucius Sergius Lepidus, a tribune serving in the twenty-ninth legion that participated in the Battle of Actium and disbanded in 27 BC . This suggests an approximate date of construction: 29-27 BC. The arch stood behind the original naval gate of the early Roman colony. The Sergii were a powerful family of officials in the colony and retained their power for centuries.
Quite a spectacular sight. Nothing much else than an arch but the surrounding buildings are interesting. Bars and restaurants close by too!
