Arakoon National Park - National park in Kempsey, Australia
You need to see the jail and the view is breath taking.
Great walking trails, great whale watching from the ledge!
What a beautiful unspoilt Place so much to enjoy the Sea watching Dolphins and Whales ,Wallabys grazing Walking tracks Camping etc
Pretty part of the coastline
Great little hidden gem on the north coast. Not to many people and plenty of great little things to see and enjoy. Allow a full day to cruise around this great little spot
Stunning views of the Pacific Ocean from the walking tracks, which traverse various coastal vegetation types. Offers great birdwatching and whale watching opportunities. The granitic geology also adds to the natural interest.
Blissful place for quiet walks, long beaches, wildlife and ocean watching. I swam in the bay, ate local caught fish, joined the Dunecare group and removed bitou, watched whales and slept soundly. Nothing else needed really. Oh- and read a book. Stayed at Arakoon House- local history.
Great campground, very civilised at Trial beach, lots to see and so. Only disappointment was not getting to do Twilight tour, online system just didnt work, tried about 20X. Bookings werent taken in person. Go figure?
One of my favourite beach in South West Rocks, the beach is super clean and not too busy. The sand is soft and its very relaxing to just have a walk in the morning and or afternoon. When the water is not too cold, I always have a dip in the water. Its refreshing!Pet is not allowed in most of national park including Arakoon. Public rest area is available, there are many picnics table in the area and always kids playground. Its family friendly.
Did the smoke lighthouse to little bay walk. First 2 kms were nice but after that, alot of steep climbs and descents. Not that enjoyable all round.
Loved the beautiful beaches and free roaming kangaroos, who seemed to take human presence in their stride, happily posing for photographs without interrupting their lunch. The history of Trial Bay and the attempted construction of a breakwater with convict labour makes for interesting reading, with the historic gaol on the hill overlooking the bay open for tours. The front beach is shallow and calm, and round the corner the waves crashing against the rocks make for great photo moments.
Such stunning views this beautiful coast line.
A unique place to stay. Great beaches and a 5 star restaurant...the Kiosk. However, you MUST eliminate ALL your rubbish outside your campsite due to mobs of grey kangas and bushrats.
Great beach and scenic views from the costal walking track.
A beautiful and historic part of the mid North coast
An incredible, educational experience travelling around the various points of the jail reading the technical and, personal aspect of jail life. How sad the inmates never saw the amazing beaches & views. Trial Bay Beach is the most beautiful spot to relax and swim after your tour. Dont forget to take your snorkel and goggles as these beaches are perfect for exploring. Young family friendly, dog friendly and 4-wheel drive friendly.
We stayed at Smoky cape Campground and explored the national park in general. There are a lot of hikes / walks to do in general, full of wildlife (specifically kangaroosand beaches are vast, calm and secluded enough
Such a nice part of the world. Make sure you make the effort to see this place!
Beautiful historical place, there are places to have a picnic and enjoy the view.
Beautiful but popular area at South West Rocks, lovely camping area near beach and beautiful cafe and dining with views of the beach and Trial Bay Jail.
Lovely place great place for family holidays
Lots of kangaroos, no need to drive to the lower road. Park in front of the jail and take a pleasant walk.
Amazing scenery and views, plenty of Bush walking trails and lots of wildlife and fishing is great sometimes.
We spent a magical late afternoon here with our picnic basket including some local oysters, a glass of wine and obliging whales passing by. A highlight of our road trip.
Camping here for the weekend. Better than expected: facilities are new and clean, great little restaurant, and right on the beach
Absolutely stunning site. And a great walking track.
Very lovely spot not too busy when we camped there kangaroos came up very close to tents and beach very clean great location.👍
See the whales from some great vantage spots, fish or spear off the rocks below, walk up monument hill. Its a beautiful spot
Great walk along coast line with views & historical markers
Beautiful national park an a lot of kangaroos around. The landscape is quite diverse with shady palm landscapes, open grassy areas, dry eucalyptus and much more. The lookout to Green island is one of my personal favourites
Loved the walks through the park, the views out to sea are spectacular, we saw lots of whales and someone said they even saw a shark.Perfectly maintained paths and great historical signage
I really would like to comeback to this place. Its absolutely beautiful. Kangaroos are around you 😍
Absolutely stunning, clean toilet shower and kitchen, amazing bay view spot catches sunset, and for sunrise is only a minute walk to the other side. Lots of kangaroos, they are super cute. Coles and liquor land is a 10mins drive away. Friendly staff and campers, we met some really nice people here. Definitely recommend 💚💚
For the camping, beaches, bush tracks, rock formations and historic gaol.
Nice park with great camping facilities, beach on side with company of kangaroos 🦘 this is a must visit place in summer
Cool place the goal was amazing, follow me @isaac_martignago
Loved our stay in the Trial Bay Gaol campground. Sites 1 to about 15 have a fantastic outlook over the ocean where you can often see dolphins playing of an afternoon. Plenty of amenities, cafe nearby if you want it. Great spot for families.
Fantastic place to swim I took my dogs there my absolute love and water absolutely beautiful place to visit
Love the early settlement history, as well as the lovely beaches and scenery.
We loved the lookout vantage points for the tourist photos, that we took tonnes off (such a beautiful stretch of beach, ocean and national park). Youll find Smokey Cape Lighthouse at the tip.Unfortunately, although there is a pathway from the carpark to the lighthouse it is definately NOT disability/mobility challenged friendly. They do have a couple of disability parking spots, but thats where it ends. It wouldnt (and didntmake a difference if you have a scooter as it would be a big struggle for it to get to the top.We watched young for people struggle to negotiate the accent and decent of the path as the gradient of it is extraordinarily steep, especially the last third of the way up. This is why i give it the 3 stars, otherwise i would give it 5.
Whale watching, kangaroos, birds, easy to hard walks through diverse vegetation, history, war history, aboriginal stories, wide long beaches, natural beauty galore, nice cafes nearby and not too many people.
Camping right on the water with some of NSWs best fishing on offer just a few hundred metres off the shore. Historic gaol for the history nerds and more kangaroos than Steve Irwin couldve wrestled in a lifetime. If youve got the time, and youre into nature, do yourself a favour and stop by.
I have been visiting this park for over 15 years now and it never fails to disappoint. Plenty of wildlife including kangaroos, fish and birds. Views are fantastic and there is also a public BBQ area along with a quiet little beach area. Definitely reccommend visiting here if youre visiting the South West Rocks / Arakoon area.
Nice historical location that isn’t too busy and has some really interesting things to look at and good views.
We did the Monument Hill walking track. Was a good walk. Beautiful view. We spotted a big brown snake on the way to Little Bay Beach. We let it take its time and it went into the bush. Always keep your eyes open.
Great walk with lots to see including whales, dolphins, lizards and plants not to mention the graves, memorials and lookouts
Always something new to discover, and if not, you didnt get out of your car or just sat and enjoyed the serenity or just plain chilled out in the beautiful location that it is!
Small park with wild kangaroos roaming. Free entry & a stunning view of the coastline.
Awesome national park, close to the beach and very wild. Becareful if you dont have a 4wd because is very sandy in some parts. Perfect to park with a van or tent.
Visited the Trial Bay Gaol. Well run and a fascinating history!! Loved the place and the camp grounds below the gaol and on the water
