De Groene Ster 2, 8926 XE Leeuwarden, Netherlands, Broek in Waterland
Zoo with mostly aquatic mammals & birds, plus animal shows, feedings & kids' play equipment.
The Zoo park is really big, with a wide variety of animals. Super fun place to visit!
If you visit Leeuwarden in Friesland together or with family, you might as well go here.I admit this zoo isnt a big one like we all see on TV or what we are used to but the variety of animals they have makes it worth a visit.Their latest addition are the tigers complete with multilingual info about the tigers.Another place to mention is the seal habitat. Believe it or not but they swim and live freely in (fenced inlocal water. A completely natural lake with a small beach and plenty of space. This zoo is also well catered to children with multiple play areas and some off-road paths with different jungle themed elements to cross over muddy pathways and small streams of water (mostly puddles). As I write this they currently have a dinosaur theme going on with multiple known and some unknown species placed throughout the park with info about when and where they lived. In short I recommend going here at least once if you are close-by or have planned to visit somewhere near the zoo. Its a nice small zoo with a healthy variety of animals and a perfect visit for everyone.
Nice little zoo, good for 2-3 hours of walking arround. They have multiple playgrounds next to the restaurants so it is ideal for a half day with the family. The food options could be better though
We love it here ❤️
A polar bear on grass. Crammed animals. I felt terrible paying money to visit this place. Last zoo visit ever. We are the reason these animals are left in these conditions, deprived from nature to become a show case
Its really lovely place,, we were so lucky to meet the polar bear 🐻❄️ face to face kids were very happy to see new kinds and also happy in playing area.. recommended for sure
It was a great experience and full afternoon of walking around the park.
Beautiful but tiny zoo. Lots to see and do for smaller children. I was hoping for some more aquaria. It is mostly outdoors.
Its a fun place for both afults and kids! I did see a few animals being very bored though and doing things against boredom. Perhaps something could be done about that? And the snack bar next to the big yellow red jumping cushion it was a little trashy. Perhaps more trashcans could be placed there to avoid getting trash in the animals enclosures. For the rest, there was many cute animals, and the enclosures are quite big too. Its a fun environment with the foresty area. And you can get good food, and theres a souvenir shop too, where i bought a mermaid necklace with a clam with a pearl. I could take the pearl out, and put that in the pendant. Then i added my rose quartz pendant i bought earlier that week on the market. The color of my pearl represents love, and so does rose quartz. Photo is added below. For the rest, like i said, its very fun for kids, examples are the food, the jumping cushions, affordable souvenirs, animals itself ofcourse, and theres small parkours placed all over the zoo, through the foresty areas which is quite lovely. Theres also many rivers and such which was very fun and calming. I am sad i couldnt really see the seals, though. But yeah, it was quite lovely to go with friends :)
We enjoyed the park. I personally liked the natural Scene.
Children friendly. Nice enclosures and walks. Very basic attraction food (deep fried). No aircon in the restaurant so avoid warm days.
Nice place 👌 👍 👏
Its a Great place to be with your friends, family, kids. I would say better than some of the biggest zoo. Good thing - you can watch some of the animals very closely . your half day is easily went out here. cafe is small but good. i would say if you are near by you can consider going out here. the zoo mainly accommodates aquatic creatures like beavers, sea-lions and polar bears, it also cares for land animals including tapirs, snowy owls, and wallabies.
If you buy the tickets online you get a small discount
Very nice zoo
It was great! Thank you for everything!! Lovely animals! Friendly zookeepers! Good food!😁
Well designed and a fun place for kids. The animals seem well kept and happy!
It is an amazing place! Adults can feel themselves like little like children, and children felt like children!
Nice place, smallish but well organised..the penguins are particularly cute and interactive
For a zoo it is made quite nicely, animals are not in small cages but nice surroundings
Not the biggest zoo but its definitely worth checking it out.
Very nice and beautifully situated zoo. Not the most modern but the location is very nice. Children enjoy themselves in the various play areas and forest paths. Definitely recommended to go.
Very nice place, enjoyed, just recomending for zoo, to do more colder place for polar bears, or to give for them more ice to their water to make for them more vold, because they polar bears, they cant to handle good Europian warm/hot, and for sea bear and one sealion(or yong sea bear with thisto change a bit, because i think water not enough good for them, they had alergy for akin(was scratched skin, and was red)
Loved visiting the zoo. All the habitats were very clean and animals were looking healthy. Showed lots of natural behaviours! We got there quite early (9amand there were only a handful of people there which made for a lovely peaceful tour through the zoo. At 1pm it got quite busy as there were loads of visitors and all the food courts were filled with people.
Nic intimate zoo. Which feels more like a little safari as you can get very close to done if the animals. Nice for kids but as everything is outdoor, it is a bit tricky if the weather is bad.
Great place. The park almost seems as if it was buid directly into a forest. Lot of natural pathways and animal enclosures with a lot trees and green. 4 stars out of 5 because the directions along the path arent always as clear. Some wooden signs Don t have any symbols on them which can be confusing.
We came to Holland for vacation (from Swedenand discovered this nice place in Leeuwarden! A bit overpriced but its nice and the kids loved it! I hope till next time they bring in more animals like lions and tiger etc. Nice cafeteria but again overpriced! More vegetarian options please
Large, open, plenty to see, friendly staff. Can recommend for a fun day out with the family!
Relax, walk and observe. Check the ⌚ before you go if you want to see the maki monkeys.
Great small zoo especially for children, lots of play areas and interesting spaces.
Nice place to walk with lots of animals and nature
Not to big, nice playinggrounds for the kids. And there are a few animals too!
Very nice place with lots of playgrounds
A small zoo. If you like seals and otters this is the perfect place for you. Like almost all animal park/zoo in Holland it has excellent facility for children, play parks, food courts etc. Reasonably priced too. Lots of glass viewing points that make for good Photography. I visited in the winter, so the summer it will be beautiful.
Nice layout and stroll. Some unexpected unusual animals too. Needs a road sign to tell you which way once you leave the main road.
A loot to see ..pinguins runing free and monkeys, lemurs and seals are free aswell. You will see a lot off interests animals and learn interesting facts about them.Kids can jump around or play on one of the playgrounds from the zoo.
What a nice zoo! We felt immersed in nature with the animals. Our favourites were the polar bear, racoons, goats and seals. Animals were in general very energetic and playful. The park was well organized, clean, food was nice as well! Definitely a must visit in Leeuwarden.
Lovely place for families, children and teenagers. Big park, lots of animals and good organisation. It has a restaurant and a shop.
Nice zoo. Well organized and animals seem to have it good. Only strange thing is that when you buy your tickets online you still need to wait in line with all that didnt buy online so I dont really see the point of buying online. Also people with massive groups like school trips stand in the same line where there is only 1 person at the check-in which cost a lot of time checking in these big groups. Definitely a point for improvement. So: check-in rubbish. Rest perfect.
Amazing. Lots of different animals. Some terrains can even be entered to pet the animals.
Great place to be on a Sunday. The weather was average which made the park not too crowded and I could watch the animals in a calmly fashion. Park is quite nice sized and will take you about 4 to 5 hours to go through. The park itself houses a wide variaty of animals and the enclosures are above average sized so no need to worry about the animals, which all seemed well fed and healthy. The cafeteria is tidy and has enough choices, from fresh sandwiches to deep fried snacks and food. All in all an good experience and a fun day out.
The park is great, lots of variety of animals and spacious. The restaurant needs improvement, waiting over 10 minutes for a sandwich while the restaurant is quiet and hardly any topping on it. Also, they now charge €4 for the parking...
Very family friendly zoo, with lots of areas where you can walk between the animals or just walk around nature. Bring some 50 cent coins so you can buy food and give it to the animals. To know beforehand: explanations are only in Dutch; the restaurant only sells snacks.
The zoo has aged very well, unlike some other zoos in the netherlands. One of the few in our country that has some penguins walking between visitors, which can be quite entertaining. Its one of those parks where you dont worry about the animals being in bad habitats at all.
Nice zoo in a green recreational area just outside town. For all ages, with otters, red pandas, polar bears, crocodiles, fish and birds. Also rowing pond and playgrounds.
Still one of my favorite zoos. To bad the polar bear was bored and did not have enough toys to entertain him. The layout of the zoo is still great though, with very few places where you are standing in a crowd.
The place is well organized with some interesting events
Amazing place! All creatures are so funny and very curious
Great zoo, you can feed a couple of different animals, can just walk between the monkeys and the penguins and more. There are enough facilities if you have kids, on a Monday it is a bit quiet, but thats no surprise during a normal work day, Sundays are very busy! A whole day of joy garuanteed :)
Great fun for the whole family. Its not big enough to spend the whole day but expect to get about half a days worth of fun. Theres lots to see and do for the smaller kids. Mostly outdoors but there are some indoor activities. Would definitely recommend!
